Hi Guys,

I know that this is meant for movies and film, but I felt compelled to write a little something about 2 TV shows here in Cinema.

Will wonders never cease!

The Hollywood fever of rehashing old themes and going with the tried and true has never been more evident than in the recent remakes - Batman, Superman, Spiderman. It so prevalent that it has spread to TV. Take for instance Stitchers, a really bad rehashing of the cult phenomenon and sci-fi hit show Fringe.

Everyone here has a thing for sci-fi so you guys will hopefully understand my excitement when I saw a clip of the show. I thought that they might take the concept onto a whole new level. I was wrong. This show is a near total rip-off of Fringe, they even used a water tank, but they called it the "Fish" tank, whereby our heroine would submerge her body into a type of lounge chair in the middle of this thoroughly sanitized lab. You see, she has this rare affliction that allows her to submerge her consciousness into dead people to solve murders and other assorted unpleasantness. Then there's the hunky nerd, love-interest and the nerdy nerd computer geek, and the obligatory exasperated "government official" who's only job is to bring cases to our little band of misfits.

Throw in a horrible script and you have the Family Channel version of one of the coolest shows since Firefly.........Fringe. I watched the pilot with baited breath but was greatly disappointed with the plastic cheapness of the set, dialogue, actors and......well, just about everything. If you're going to copy a truly awesome show, make an effort. I really don't hold out much hope for this sloppy, unimaginative show, and writing about it gives me no comfort. There are far too many flaws to speak of and keep it short and sweet. Let me describe it this way: You know that eating junk food is bad for you, but you eat it anyway, then an hour later you wind up back at the refrigerator. Well this show is that cream-filled donut your mama warned you about.

Which brings me to Blind Spot (NBC). Have you seen the ads for it? Interesting to say the least. Here you have a Army duffle bag left in the middle of Times Square with a tag that says Call The FBI. I'll give you one guess as to what they find in the bag. Holy Rip Off Batman! They did it again! A naked woman covered only by Tatoos with names and, folded into the bag. Sound familiar!? She's also got amnesia........Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! Oh, one more thing.....she's a lethal weapon. Hello! It's a cross between River and Momento. Rip off, rip off................rip off. It's funny how a beloved TV show isn't good enough to bring back, but stealing the show's character, does that seem right to you?

It stars Jaime Alexander (Lady Sif in the Thor movies) a nuclear-hot babe who will melt the screen with her smoldering hazel eyes. To be honest, it looks kind of good. It starts Sept 21 at 10 p.m. I will be there, I can't help it.

To be honest, I thought "Inception: The TV Series" and "The Black List with a Hot Girl Instead of James Spader."

There's nothing new under the sun, so it comes down to voice and execution. Unfortunately, I agree with you on "Stichers" (which I had high hopes for, since I'm a huge fan of the writing techniques of the creator). On "Blind Spot," I'll wait and see.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

There is an "Other Science Fiction Series" forum you know.

I'll probably watch Blindspot, if only for Jaimie. It will be up against Castle, but I usually watch that on Hulu anyway. Yeah, there's is nothing new under the sun, but the show I thought about when I first heard about Blindspot was John Doe, that other doomed show in a certain Friday night death slot in 2002.

I watched about ten minutes of the Stitchers pilot, and was shaking my head so much my neck was sore.

I think that is why the forum for Other Science Fiction Series is around.
Your items indicate a sci-fi genre.

Amnesia and Lethal Weapon make me think Jason Bourne, at least before Damon.
There are others in this mold, but that is the most universal character at this time. Leeloo in 5th Element was similar, except having memory after being resurrected.

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I forgot about John Doe, but the naked woman in a suitcase has been done. They took that idea and ran with it, but with a little twist - the tattoos on her body. Much more than that I don't know, but it's enough (it may be that I've watched too much TV).

Anyway, I'll watch because of Jaime, but I do hope it's nothing like Blacklist. I watched a couple of episodes, but I couldn't get into it. Don't get me wrong, I love James Spader as an actor and the lead actress was good, and I was thrilled Harry Lennix was in it, but something just didn't click for me (Plus they wasted Harry Lennix' talent IMHO). Oh well.
