Hollyweird has almost died?

2022 there was Dune and the Will Smith slap...maybe that was when it died?

now we have MegaJokolis unwanted remakes of TheCrow, Borderlands disaster...the next Oscars will be forced to give Academy Awards wards to Wolverine-Deadpool / It Ends with Us or Japan toons?

The cinema year is almost over and almost nothing has happened from Hollywood Commiefornia

it wasn't all terrible, you did have Dune-2 and Alien Romulus ...but its another of Hollyweird's worst years...in tv land South Korean foreign language shows are kicking Hollywoods ass, the Koreans are starting to have product challenging US product with movies like 'Exhuma'
while the Japan tv Shogun won almost everything.
Small indie movies can do well but if they say something politically incorrect in the USA the perverts at Hollywood block their success.
They could make speech about Weed or Hemp...keep people stoned and drunk and stupid, do a Bob Marley thing?
China has grown as a cultural power with Chinese language movies still holding their own in Worldwide Box Office keeping Hollywood out of the Top10. Some movies from Hollywood do so bad they try to sell them and get sales in Russia despite Western blockades and war sanctions.
Will Smith who attacks people for offending his baldy swinger wife is probably still banned
they might do their usual stunt and give a bunch of awards to some pretentious Euro type Eurotrash arty European film thing.

Studios are still trying to get their hand on the artistic property of video games but ist not easy, a lot of material is owned by Japan and when Hollywood makes films of video game property they often trash the source material and insult the fans.

Some 200+ Million Hollywood products are also beaten by 'KPOP' the South Koreans doing music movies. Koreans who simply copied the documentary behind the scenes concert film formula try to mimic the Taylor Swift popmusic idea.
Hollywood could also admit it is being challegned by Spanish films or Indian Hindi Bollywood.
K-Pop movies can now challenge Hollwyood in over seas markets and steal the number 1 spots away to win gold with pop music movies.

It was a rough year, but it could have gone worse. A large part of the problem for the Box Office in 2024 was all the movies that were pushed back to 2025-2026 or outright cancelled because of the Writer/Actor strikes last year.

It's also a better or worse year than 2023 depending on which studio heads you're talking to. I don't think I'm going to bother doing all the work putting together 2024 spreadsheets like I did last year, but I can say that Disney's movie division has to be a hell of a lot happier with the results of 2024 than the prior year. They've only put out 2 of the 3 movies they had on the release schedule for 2024 and they're the two highest grossing movies of 2024 earning nearly $2,991,707,268 so far globally combined on $400 Million combined budgets.

In other words, at RoT2.5x, Disney has earned $1.9 Billion after the breakeven point on D&W and IO2. The combined earnings on both of these blockbusters wipes out the 2023 Box Office losses and even adds a few hundred million.

I think Disney does better when it only releases 1 movie per quarter at maximum instead of shitting out a $250 Million movie or two every month. Just fire all the DEI hires, keep the woke agenda shit out of the movies and focus on a few high quality movies every year instead of churning out "content" for their failing streaming service.

I shouldn't have to remind anybody of this. Disney did just that for decades and now they own 1/4 of the shit in the world that they bought with those earlier profits.

Can they give the Oscar to Dune-2 again, Oscars 2022 I Best Original Score Dune I Hans Zimmer, Best Production Design, Best Sound Edits, Best Cinematography, Best Special FX?

Joker got tons and awards and nominations, lots of accolades received by Joker 2019 but its an incredibly shitfilm

the Award show in 2022 received negative reviews, and many were critical of Best Actor winner Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock...which was the major event and not a celebration of US film.

I still can't believe how many viewers this show gets.

Wasn't it something like 19 or 20 million last year after it had fallen off sharply during Covid?

If memory serves, last year's viewership is still only about half of what they used to get, but I just can't believe that anybody would want to watch those people blow themselves and each other for 3 hours straight.

I'm afraid not...

Hancock made $227 Million in the US and $397 Million internationally for a worldwide box office of $624 Million.

That's about $200 Million more than Blacktain is going to get.

Blacktain has a virtual 50/50 split with US/International audiences, with the US making up 48.8% of the ticket sales.

Hancock only saw 36.5% from the US, with 63.5% coming from international audiences.

$80 Million PB. Needs $200 Million to break even.

Has $119 Million after 8 days, which will probably be $130 Million by Sunday with the domestic numbers added after the weekend is done.

I have no idea if the international total is up to date or not since I wasn't following, so I can't say for sure if it will make it or not.

Not really going to be a money maker if it does manage to break even though.

Margot Robbie is just about finished in Hollywood. She's already hit the wall, and she's not a good actress. She's really just a dollar store clone of Jamie Pressly, but worse at acting and probably a lot less fun to be around IRL.

It did worse than I thought it would in the US this weekend with larger than I expected drops for Sat/Sun based off of Friday's drop. Not by much though... just a few million.

Worldwide totals had not been updated either, so now the new worldwide total after 10 days is $151 Million. So they got around $22-$23 Million for all last week and the weekend internationally. They had a 57% drop on 2nd weekend here in the US, which if it matches the following 4 days, they will have around another $3.0-$3.5 Million US by next weekend. Assuming another 57% drop over next weekend, that would be around another $6 Million for Weekend 3. All in all, about $10 Million more US by next Sunday.

I don't know what the international drops are, so let's call it 55% for now. That would be around another $10-$12 Million international for the same week. (or day 17).

Now we're at $171-$173 Million worldwide by Day 17.

No reason to think it would keep anything better than 60% weekly drops from there.

End of Weekend 4 Worldwide: Around $180 Million by Day 24.

End of Weekend 5: Around $185 Million by Day 31.

End of Weekend 6: Around $188 Million by Day 38.

End of Weekend 7: Around $190 Million by Day 45.

At this point, I would expect it to be yanked from theaters since WB's current model seems to be only 45 day theater exclusivity and if a movie isn't still making money in theaters at that point they tend to just exit from the theaters entirely.

My guess right now is that this doesn't make $200 Million and break even. I think I'm being pretty generous with these numbers, but since I don't know the true state of the international numbers I'm doing that to give myself some padding here.

Are you wondering why Hollywood is not prospering? Maybe even facing death?

I think it is because ticket prices plus snacks are too high. Here is the story from the Wall Street Journal:

The $50 movie ticket has arrived

Story by Ben Fritz | April 27, 2026

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/the-50-movie-ticket-has-arri
ved/ar-AA21OoXp

One of the best selling points of a night out at the movies has long been how cheap it was for two hours-plus of entertainment. Not so much when it costs $50 per ticket.

That’s how much Regal Cinemas recently charged for opening night seats in the best theaters to see December’s “Dune: Part Three.”

Eye-popping prices for the most in-demand movies on the best screens are becoming increasingly common as the cinema industry copies the audience-segmentation playbooks of airlines and hotels. Theaters are getting people who love movies and have discretionary income to pay substantially more.

Some 17% of film tickets sold last year were for premium format theaters with bigger screens and better sound, compared with 13% in 2021. They cost an average of $18 nationally, according to research firm EntTelligence, and as much as $30 in big cities such as New York and Los Angeles.

Welcome to the new box office reality. Die-hards are paying top dollar while the rest of the country rarely goes to the theater and gets most of their entertainment from Netflix, YouTube and TikTok. Despite recent hits such as “Michael,” “Project Hail Mary” and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” the annual number of tickets sold is down more than one-third from before the pandemic.

“The good news is we’re making more money per patron than we made prior to Covid,” said Adam Aron, chief executive of AMC Theatres. But “it’s not a good thing that patronage is down as much as it’s been.”

Regal sold its inventory of $50 “Dune” tickets projected in 70 millimeter IMAX film in a matter of minutes. Since premium auditoriums regularly sell out fastest, exhibitors are racing to build more of them. AMC, the biggest chain in the U.S., had 517 at the end of last year, 30% more than in 2021.

In addition, AMC adds a surcharge of up to $2 per ticket for popular films on their opening weekends.

Adults seeing a movie on a regular screen are paying an average of $12.75 per ticket according to EntTelligence, a figure that has long risen roughly in line with inflation. Discount screenings abound on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

But spending on popcorn, drinks and merchandise has grown 220% over the past 20 years, far above inflation, said Greg Marcus, chief executive of Midwest chain Marcus Theatres.

The average AMC customer now spends $9 on concessions per visit compared with $5 prepandemic—a figure that includes the 20% to 30% of people who buy nothing but a ticket.

Some Hollywood executives worry the growing cost of a night at the cinema and increased reliance on premium screens are turning moviegoing into a pricey special occasion rather than an inexpensive regular habit.

“Going to the movies must be more affordable again,” Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures’ motion picture group, told a crowd of exhibitors at the recent CinemaCon industry convention in Las Vegas.

Studios and theaters have long operated in an uneasy symbiosis. Both need each other to prosper and resent self-interested decisions their counterparts make that impact them. Studios have long complained that exhibitors don’t keep their multiplexes in good enough condition. Their newest complaint is rising prices along with expanding preshow advertising that, combined with as many as nine trailers, means movies frequently start close to half an hour after their official showtime.

Exhibitors at CinemaCon said the industry’s biggest problem is that studios are releasing about 25% fewer films annually than before the pandemic. Since they can’t increase the product supply on their own, theater operators said they are forced to find profits where they can.

“Give us enough films,” Marcus asserted. “If you’re not going to let us earn a decent return, don’t ask me to invest more or cut my prices.”

Paramount CEO David Ellison promised theater operators at CinemaCon that if his company’s purchase of Warner closes, the two studios will release at least 30 movies a year, compared with a combined 19 in 2025. Amazon MGM Studios is expanding from a handful of nationwide theatrical releases annually to 15.

Premium screens have become another point of tension between theaters, which want to promote their own brands to compete with market leader IMAX, and studios that want to market them together. Disney at CinemaCon announced a brand called Infinity Vision to promote premium screens for December’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” which won’t play on IMAX screens because they are committed to “Dune: Part Three,” which opens the same day.

Some theater operators said they were uncertain about adding a phrase such as “certified in Infinity Vision” to their premium brands like Cinemark XD and Regal RPX, because of the leverage it could give Disney over their businesses.

Be Evil. Be a dick.

Example of high prices paid for tickets and snacks for the movie Hoppers, which is less "woke" than a Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoon:

Based on reports from early 2026, the cost of going to see Hoppers can be high due to premium snack combos and high-cost theater experiences. Below are examples of high prices paid for tickets and concessions:

High-Cost Examples (2026)

• $90+ Family Outing: A viral story shared in March 2026 detailed a trip to see a new movie where tickets, popcorn, and drinks for a family of four surpassed $90.

• $47+ “Hoppers" Combo: Regal Cinemas offered a specific Hoppers snack pack featuring a collectible popcorn bucket, drink, and topper that, when combined with tickets, reached approximately $47.86.

• Individual Snack Inflation: A single large popcorn can cost around $14 and a "Small Pepsi" up to $8.99, leading to complaints that snack runs often cost as much as the movie tickets themselves.
