Renting Badassdom is not enough. I'm not a fan of gory, druggy, sorcery comedy, but Summer's movie will fail unless we all go out and support it, no matter how bad it stinks.

The trailer for Badassdom ( "I'm packing an ounce of killer 'shrooms!" "A+, Motherf**ker!" ) targets exactly the same audience as sword and sorcery movie Your Highness (2011). You know the audience: dope smoking little motherf**ker students who DWI.

Unfortunately for the likely future of Summer's movie, Your Highness did terrible at the boxoffice: www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=yourhighness.htm That is why we must do what we can to help Summer Glau. We must see her movie.

There are obvious differences between Summer's film and Your Highness ( one had a small production budget and the other a huge budget ) but what you should really notice are the similarities between the trailers. I think Summer Glau could have been cast in Natalie Portman's role. I believe Summer would have brought something extra that Portman could not to the golden bikini scene, which is in the Your Highness trailer.

Do you really think Summer is a better actress than Natalie? I went to see Your Highness just for lack of anything better to do. It was pretty funny IMO. It was a renter at best as well, but some friends were going so I gave in.

Frankly I've never been impressed by Summer unless she's playing a mentally unstable chick. Basically River and whatshername from Dollhouse. I guess there was like one episode of the sarah conner chronicles where she played a human and did a good job, but the rest of that series she wasn't doing anything special. She didn't shine at all in The Cape. Her episode of Angel was almost campy it was so bad. She's great as River but I'm not so sure she's a top of the line actress who just hasn't become popular enough yet. I'm not going to go out of my way to try to support her career.

Campy? I rather liked the vaguely Russian accent Summer used. She lowered her voice and sounded like an immigrant ballet instructor, reminding me of Natalie Portman. As for the Cape, the Cape's puking son was on camera for more minutes than Summer, whose time in front was about the same as the dwarf in the Carnival of Crime.

Admittedly, I might not be an unbiased judge of which actress, Summer or Portman, is better -- I did buy Little Damn Heroes #5 - River Tam Animated Maquette. So cute with those big eyes and the ax. http://store.qmxonline.com/Little-Damn-Heroes-5--River-Tam-Animated-Ma

I have no particular problem with that. I don't want crappy movies to succeed, regardless of who is in them.

However, so far this looks good to me. Don't know if it's a theater film or rental for me yet, but I'm leaning towards buying a ticket.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that. I think Hollywood has long since been dragged into the muck because of people going to the theater for and actor or actress rather than the overall quality of a film. Slap one big name star on a piece of trash and you're guaranteed X number of dollars. IMO that's exactly the wrong way to go about voting with your dollars. I'd rather send the message that Hollywood has to produce an all around quality film if they want any of my money.

You're a wonderful idealist!

The rest of us just surrender our elitist standards and give in to vulgarity if we're going to the movies. Or we could stay home and watch True Blood to keep our standards low.

Money, money, and money are the top 3 priorities in Hollywood. Famous Actors comes in fourth. Let's pick a random movie like Black Swan (2010) to analyze how Hollywood cast actors. Well, not really random because FOX distributed it, the same corp that killed Firefly.

Nobody can play better than Summer Glau the deranged ballerina in Black Swan. Summer does the best crazy. Yet, Natalie Portman, who can't dance worth a damn, was cast. Portman is a manufactured product of Hollywood's Liz Taylor Child Actors School. Its graduates are famous for being famous. Summer Glau is NOT a graduate. The other ballerina in Black Swan, Mila Kunis, is another of those Liz Taylor graduates, which is why she was picked.

I think those casting decisions worked very well for FOX. Giving all credit to famous Portman and Kunis, Black Swan made $327,803,731 www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=blackswan.htm If we could magically replace Portman with Summer Glau, it would be a better movie that made less money.

Most important for the vulgarity that sells Hollywood movies, Portman made sure that the entire world knows the daddy for her illegitimate child is the choreographer of Black Swan. “Would it be too crazy to think you might name your baby Oscar?” a reporter asked backstage in the pressroom at Hollywood’s biggest night, when Portman won for Black Swan. Those Hollywood marketeers are geniuses!

You think the dancing was the focus of Black Swan? I don't think the dancing was very important at all. It was just the backdrop for the story. She was basically living out the role of the black swan. Her emotional roller coaster was the important part of the film to me. Kunis didn't really have much actual dancing anyway. Plus her whole thing was that she wasn't very technically sound at dancing.

Anyway I thought it sucked. I was glad I didn't see it in the theater otherwise I couldn't have gotten up to do other stuff.

Portman got the Oscar for doing 5% of her dancing and 100% of her acting/histrionics. It looked like she had learned nothing since she did The Professional when she was 12. It's recycled acting from the 1990s. Summer could do 100% and 100%, but no Oscar because she's unknown. It would not have mattered if Summer performed better than Portman.

Compare the Badassdom trailer to the horror/comedy Blubberella (2011) trailer www.imdb.com/title/tt1756427/

My loyalty is to Summer Glau, but if I were also a fan of Lindsay Hollister, who plays the title character in Blubberella, I would watch her movie just as I will watch Summer in Badassdom. Quality is immaterial; blind loyalty and fanatical fandomism are more important.

Blubberella is director Uwe Boll's Schindler's List. Uwe was reaching for a best director Oscar. No, not really.

Uwe shot Blubberella and Bloodrayne: The Third Reich simultaneously and just keep swapping out fashion model Natassia Malthe for plus size model Lindsay Hollister. He got to make both a movie and the tongue-in-cheek parody. And Uwe got to play Hitler, the ultimate role for a director.

So strong, Zeek. You are going to change the world! Could you start by getting Summer Glau's agent to find better future projects than Badassdom? I'm embarrassed that I have to buy a ticket, but I can't help myself for I am weak. I'd hate it if her next movie project, whatever it is, is a 3rd horror/comedy. She's done Mastodon. Summer plays "Gwen" in Badassdom and Sigourney Weaver plays "Gwen DeMarco" in Galaxy Quest (1999) www.imdb.com/title/tt0177789/ Coincidence there are two Gwens? No way in Hollywood!

The sweetest and prettiest explanation for Summer Glau taking the "Gwen" role is that she wanted to be a Sigourney -- actress becomes actual spacewoman warrior she pretended to be on TV. Or in Summer's case, LARPer becomes actual demon-slaying warrior woman. Being Sigourney fulfilled a secret Summer fantasy.

Keeping the costume can't be the reason Summer did the movie. Imagine going to the grocery store and gas station in it.

Summer took the role in Badassdom because it is about a woman going from pretending to be brave and bold to being the real thing. Sigourney Weaver had the same kind of role in Galaxy Quest, a comedy/adventure. The scriptwriter for Badassdom lifted the name Gwen from Galaxy Quest for that reason. It wasn't from Guinevere, welsh form Gwenhwyfar, wife of King Arthur and lover of Lancelot.

I think Summer Glau could replace Sigourney Weaver as the new next chief female scientist in Avatar 2. Badassdom2? I hope Summer's agent didn't let her sign for that.

Storymark, are you a Mythbuster? www.imdb.com/title/tt0383126/

The statement: “Gwen in Badassdom was named after Gwen DeMarco in Galaxy Quest” was previous classified as More Than A Happy Coincidence. It will be reassigned to the category known as Beautiful Yet Unsubstantiated Myth. Are you happy now, Storymark?

I got another Why-Gwen-for-a-Name rumor. This one has very solid evidence backing it up: “Badassdom named Summer Glau's character gwen (smile in Welsh) because Gwen smiles a lot.”
Two citations almost prove the rumor true. Almost is close enough except for Mythbusters.
1.) The word “gwen”, not capitalized, is Welsh for smile. - http://bit.ly/n7iCGV

Simply repeating, the Badassdom character Gwen was named after her characteristic smiling. Storymark's prosaic “Heard of a lass named Guenevere?” is a “so, what of it?”

I'd really like some of whatever you are smoking.

Bothe The Cape and TSSC misused Summer and didn't write to her specific talents. Joss somehow figured it out in Firefly and Serenity, and then broke the mold. No one, and I mean no one, has been quite able to write for Summer. No, of course Natalie is a better actress, she's a chameleon. Summer's strength is in getting a good solid character within a conceptualized story. Something that she can build upon, backstory, etc.

Yes, the TSSC had backstory up the wazoo, but the set up was all wrong and the other characters failed in creating chemistry (as in Firefly). Personally, in TSSC, I would have preferred they not show who she was until the end of Season 1. The build up would have been awesome. But, in truth, the writing was weak at best.

I could totally see her in Natalie's role in Your Highness (I agree it was strictly home video action), but there too the writing was hit and miss. It never really gained any steam.

But this KoB trailer makes me feel that this could become a cult classic. Danny Pudi is HI-larious in Community. And Steven Zahn is one of my fav comedic actors. With Summer in it, I'm there.

Awesome trailer Haken. Finally we get to see Summer as she should be - kicking ass and taking no prisoners. I would have loved to see her in the upcoming John Carter movie (sigh).

Both her and her agent know the fanbase - Browncoats and geeks. All of Geekdom, and those with the capacity to geek, myself included, will be anxiously awaiting further orders. But for now, it's KoB.
