Well, another boring Indiana night. (with no shopping to do. Yay!) What to do but head to the movies, again....

So this time it was Tin Tin. I actually bothered to reseach a little. Tin Tin was a comic strip about a boy journalist and his dog that first appeared in a Belgium newspaper in 1929 by Georges Remi, who would often draw himself into the strips. In 1939 Belgium was invaded and forced to stop printing because of its political nature and eventually Tin Tin came back and took on more of an explorer role, which is the incarnation in the movie.

The movie. My kid gives it just a plain old "A" and I'll go along with that. If you take Dick Tracy, Lassie, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, and the Hardy Boys and smush them together into a eager Red-headed kid.... that's what you get here. It definitely does the pre-WWII feel nicely, and there are times- especially at the beginning- where you swear you can feel the sunlight and the wind on your face. There is much stapsticking to be had and if you have a kid or an overgrown adult who likes that, they will like this movie. The only reason it looses a point is for improbable plot and whant-whant-whhhhant moments, but considering it's adapted from a old timey comic strip, I guess a certain amout of that is to be expected. It also has the distinct plus of being squeaky!! clean, with the exception of an old alcoholics antics... We saw it in 3-d and although I hate 3-d, for this movie -because the action is pretty much nonstop- I really really didn't notice I had them on. For once.

So sure, go see it

Oh, I don't know if it matters or not, but the middle of the movie had very much the feel of one of those ani-motion rides they have at all the big theme parks these days... Kinda wonder if they plan on doing that, or if it was all for effect...

DREAMTROVE

I was a big Tintin fan as a kid, I read them all, even a couple in dutch (where he's Kuifje, which means that little cowlick in his hair.)

It's a great series, like Asterix, it's a series of books, each with a self-contained story, covering common threads, They make for great transitional reading for a kid in the process of graduating from picture books to chapter books.

I'll see the movie, I'm sort of dreading that hollywood transcription of something you loved as a child, but I've gotten used to that effect by now.

My mom, her husband and my little bro aged 9 saw it, they all thought it moved too fast, even the little bro who I'm almost willing to admit has ADD. If it moved too fast for him then I won't be able to even begin to follow it. :) They didn't fancy it much.

Seems like everything is either and action flick or a snooze fest. I'm soo tired lately it has too move fast or I just want to fall asleep. I do see where it could move pretty fast for some though...and I do think there were some extraneous actions scenes, but it still wasn't bad.
