There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm sure there won't be anyone to agree with me, but I was thinking a better first word for the title would have been Yawn.

That's the second review I have checked out. The first being on the radio and giving the movie a much higher grade. Guess time will tell.

I'm sure most people will agree with the more positive reviews. Maybe I shouldn't have said "yawn" since within the review I did say it was not boring. Just not very memorable.

I haven't seen it yet, but most entertainment sites have been raving about it, and they love to trash big budget flicks.

So, I saw the previous one with James Franco and my whole problem was the chimp was supposed to be super intelligent, right? Yet he couldn't be reasoned with or understand that circumstances led to him being locked up. How intelligent could he possibly be if basic concepts are lost on him.

Is that a continued issue in the new movie?

Hey Zeek,

I haven't seen POTA2, but I did see the previous one with Franco and I agree that was present - the whole intelligence thing - but I think that's key in all the Ape movies (just being told differently). It is an allegory - because man is intelligent yet fails to see the forest for the tress, as it were.

I finally went to see it, with my son, and I found it enjoyable and entertaining enough. I do agree to a certain extent that there were many instances where you had to suspend your belief (not to mention that we're talking about talking apes - funny scene where they mention exactly that), but we're talking about science fiction, so we have to have that going in.

What I found a little annoying is how they made the apes seem almost too human and emotional. Now don't say this to a Bible thumper, but they are supposed to be our closest relatives in the animal world. But sci-fi comes with a mixed package, chief among the mixture is social commentary and this movie reminded greatly of the world in it's present state. Needless war and hatred spread like wildfire by those eager to annihilate the other species - and it's not always about survival. What came to mind for me was the recent turmoil in the Middle East and our contribution to the muddled mess.

There was also commentary on animal testing and cruelty, the whole border issue, etc. Aside from the obvious political undertones, it was almost Shakespearean in it's attitude regarding the two main ape leaders. It was interesting how they presented that dynamic, but I agree, somewhat predictable. The acting was actually pretty solid (no one phoned it in) and quite convincing. All the FX were spot on, and the plot was purposeful - generally to set up the 3rd installment.

But something that both my son and I noticed was "how did the apes learn to shoot a gun so proficiently." I mean, they go from clubs, spears and sticks to automatic weapons. I know the premise is that these apes are intelligent, but come on. My son said that little detail was important for the overall scope or arc of the story. Here you have an ape shooting like an Israeli commando, really!?

Like I said, what spoiled it for me was the melodramatic scenes with Caesar's family. Otherwise, it was not bad for a supposedly blockbuster sci-fi flick.

John Wick 1 was awesome. John Wick 3&4 sucked ass and brought 2 down with it. Nobody asked for Ballerina. Now pay the price.
