Oh there will be, Steamer - they intended one from the start, up to and including hiring Steven Tyler to do some of the music, in english.

Here's the official site, english version, and they also have some nice trailers for you.

Takes a lot to get my jaded and cynical arse bouncing up and down in my seat with anticipation, but this one sure as heck did it.

The production value is awesome. Hope they release this here soon. It looks like a good summertime popcorn movie.

Well, from what I hear it stomped Harry Potter at the box office, which bodes well for an american release.

From the reviews, mostly done by folk who have NO IDEA of the depth of the fandom, it doesn't really add anything new to the story, but hell, did we really want it to ?

Like I said, bouncing up and down in my seat - apparently there was at least one screener version with subtitles already for early english reviewers, but I rather suspect they're gonna throw us a dub to appeal to a wider and more mainstream audience.
(Although yanno, Pans Labyrinth worked well enough without one.)

One thing I always liked about the series was a weird quibble of mine, see, being a battleship captain is NOT as easy as one might think - all of your crew is very seperated from each other, in sealed up, armored metal sections, and they depend on you to give the orders - knowing WHICH commands to give, and *in which order*, might mean the difference between gettin it done, and gettin fulla holes, and that's right out of the dock...

Then take into account damaged systems, wounded crew, and knowing your crew well enough to know response time and personal quirks, who you might wanna give an order early cause they're a little slow, versus the guy with really fast reaction time you wanna hold back a little, that's what makes a captain so bloody important.

Given the technical advancement of society as a whole, and our concept of space ship design now versus then, that's less likely to be prevalent here, but in the original series, it was as well done as it could be without delving into minutae.

I really get your meaning there Frem. A captain MUST know his crew as well, or better than, the ship. To show that effectively in a movie would be all kinds of awesome.

As an aside: there was one dynamic in Star Trek that I particularly liked - the interaction between the captain and Scotty. I remember one episode where Scotty tells a crew member never give the captain the exact time when he would have something repaired. "Always give yourself some time." "If you can fix it in one hour always tell him 2. So if you fix it in one hour, he'll think you're a bloody genius." (paraphrase).

Of course, the old Star Trek was rather simplistic compared to what we have today. You make a good point about Pan's Labrynth though. An excellent movie that lost nothing by showing subtitles. It all depends upon the translation and subtitle timing.

Actually, that was in TNG, "Relics," where Scotty explained it to Geordie.

(And later, one of the novels suggests that Kirk knew Scotty was doing this, and Kirk was just mentally halving everything Scotty told him. )

I stand corrected. :-)
