Yep, New Alien. New Star Wars - like Episode 8?
John Wick 2 was on my list, as was Hidden Figures.

The Belko Experiment wasn't on my radar, but now it its.
I had lost track of Melanie Diaz, but here she is. Plus The Godfather of Green Bay.

The cast for Bad Batch looks promising:

Had not heard of Atomic Blonde or Dunkirk.
You must be hoping for an upgrade in Thor.
The trailer for Baby Driver made me think it was for teens.

The rest look good.

Hi guys,

See my brief review re: Ghost in the Shell 2017 - I was looking forward to this film.

Atomic Blonde (Charlize Theron) - I was not aware of this movie until I went to see Arrival and it was in the coming attractions. Think "The Long Kiss Goodnight" with Geena Davis and Samuel Jackson.

Baby Driver - same thing here, never heard of this movie until I saw the poster and a trailer in the theater. And yes, it's a kind pf teen movie; here's a description: Talented getaway driver Baby relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the business. Boy meets girl, boy wants to go straight, Crime boss won't let him. Sounds like FUN! By the way, Kevin Spacey is the crime boss.

Should be good, it's written and directed by Edgar Wright (Ant Man, Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Hot Fuzz and World's End) to name a few of his films.

Dunkirk - about a infamous WWII battle in France (wasn't it mentioned in Edge of Tomorrow?); written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Should be good.

Thor - Yes, I'm hoping for an upgrade.

Dark Tower. Sci-fi - check. Western - check. Whedonverse alumni Franz Kratz - check.
I have not seen a trailer yet, but looks interesting.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1648190/

Regarding Dunkirk - wasn't it a non-battle? Is that what it was famous for? From the trailer, it seems the big deal was that military ships could not save the troops, but it was only common boats, fishermen, who rescued them. Is that the gist?

OK, it looks like there was a Battle of Dunkirk, but this film is not about that, it is about the Dunkirk Evacuation, which was a separate incident.

I am a bit fuzzy about 1940 WWII in Yurp. I'm better with 1941+ or Pacific details from 1940ish.

With Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz under his belt, I should reconsider trying out Baby Driver.

I think I'll be watching The Promise, although it wasn't on my radar too long ago, and it seems to be dated 2016.
But the cast looks quite good.
And there is a character named Hakan.

Hey JSF,

I too know little of the "Battle of Dunkirk" except that it was WWII, British soldiers and what not, but apparently you're right. Should be a good film because it's a good story.

Dark Tower - I know little of this movie, except that it was a Steven King novel. Oh and that Idris Elba is starring and being directed by a little-known Danish filmmaker; so it should have that European flavor (much like
that of Arrival with Villeneuve, the French director).

I will follow Villeneuve anywhere.

Wait, there's more...

It seems that he's hot now. See below about DUNE!

The Dune reboot is well on its way!  Legendary Pictures nabbed Denis Villenueve earlier to be the director, and now they know who is writing it!  Find out more about the legendary writer below!

Eric Roth: has been chosen to write the Dune screenplay. Who is he? He wrote the screenplays for Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and the classic Forrest Gump. Not too shabby!

I thought somebody posted that they had seen this. But i don't know if it was DVD or Cinema. I have no seen any info about it in the physical world - when was it actually in Cinema, if ever? Is it released on DVD yet? If so, what store has it - so far, nobody that I've found.

Wonder Woman starts showing in an hour in my town.
Next week is The Mummy (Tom Cruise).
The next week is Book of Henry.

Why have I not heard of Megan Leavey before it's release? I knew nothing of it until looking it up just now.

True story with lovely Kate Mara playing a Marine in Combat? And Will Patton as well? Despite the rest of the cast, I really want to see this.

I wonder how Mara picks her roles, I normally enjoy them. She already played Marine wife in Shooter, from the first Bob Lee Swagger book Point of Impact.

Kate Mara was excellent early on in House of Cards, but yeah, I recently saw the TV trailers for Megan Leavey. Got 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, plus it has a female director, a growing trend since Hurt Locker?

Will this do?

Book of Henry was supposed to be released 16 June. I did not see it showing until last Monday (26 June) when it had 2 showings, so I went the next day, and the theater cancelled the showing I went to, and I see no other showings anywhere.
So the cinemas are not giving it much play, much of a chance.

Bad Batch is supposed to be out, also - but I have not seen it showing anywhere.

And Baby Driver is out 2 days ago.

Next up from films in this thread are Valerian and Dunkirk on July 21.

Valerian met my expectations, Likely the best sci-fi I've seen this year, and perhaps the most entertaining so far this year.

I felt like that with Galaxy Quest, which I watched in cinema several times. I plan to watch Valerian in cinema again, although I don't seem to have an IMAX theater near me.

Looks Like I was mistaken. It's called Gwen Saves The Day apparently.
I cannot make a linky with the lame chrome book I'm using at the moment, but if you do a yahoo search for "galaxy quest Deluxe Edition 2009" and use the result from ign.com the page mentions the correct title of the deleted scene. It indicates the same deleted scene was with the original DVD.
I keep watching the 2009 DE version, so I can't verify that.

Check your local public Library, they lend DVDs out for free, and they can loan one from a nearby (statewide) Library normally.

I get an error when I try to play that.
If you have not seen the cast comments/interviews, you really should watch hers - about her wearing the costume or makeup/wig out to the bars after work.

Looks like I get a screen shot showing when I did "reply with quote" and it looks like the right one. Did the door come down?
How did you like that scene? Did you see it before?
I read about that scene with "screw that" - I had thought it was an intentional inside joke originally. But it was originally the real word, and got a huge laugh, but made an R rating, so it ws one of many scenes edited to get to PG-13. I wonder if Gwen Saves The Day was another of those - otherwise it should have been included in the release.

Yeah... It's strange that won't play here. I double checked the link and it was right. Every once in a great while I notice some videos have problems being linked elsewhere. I don't think it's a copyright issue.

LOL... that scene was great. I've never seen any of the deleted scenes before. I really don't see them for any movies since I haven't watched a DVD in about 10-12 years. I'd been torrenting stuff for ages and playing it from my NAS unit until Kodi came along.

Strange that they had to do "screw that" to get the PG rating. I thought I had read that movies were given one "Get out of jail free" card for the F Bomb. For instance....

The best line from Spaceballs didn't warrant an R rating.

But then again, that was all the way back in 1987.

It fills in the blank for the transition between her uniform front being torn a bit, and then suddenly displaying a lot more. IIRC her line about having to crawl on her hands while her top was ripped open, camera looking down her top, was just before this scene.

That was 1999, under Slick Willie. For a while, the most stringent enforcement was under Democrat Administrations, and a bit more lax under GOP.

Dark Tower was definitely satisfying.

Looks like the next up from the discussed films is Logan Lucky on 18 August.

Is that Steven King?

I never read any of his novels. I love his short stories though. The only TV movie of his that I really liked was The Stand. Some of the other ones were pretty entertaining but for all the wrong reasons though.

I loved his short story The Mist, and thought they did a great job making that movie. I only recently found out that it was made by the guy who does the Walking Dead, and that he wanted the movie to be in Black and White but the studio wouldn't allow it. The director's cut is in B/W I've heard. I should watch that one again the way it was meant to be watched.

The Eli Roth Death Wish reboot with Bruce Willis looks better than I expected. Built in franchise as well.

I just heard about that the other day.

Here's hoping it isn't a watered down POS that they could just call Die Hard 6 or something.

Remember Die Hard With a Vengeance? Why can't they make action movies like that anymore? Did I just get old, or do they all just suck now?

Did you see the trailer?

Nah... was it any good?

I stopped taking trailers seriously back in 1990 and the movie Spaced Invaders came out.

The funniest line in the commercial wasn't even in the movie. The aliens were trick or treating with the kids and a huge lady opens the door.

Alien 1: Woah! Who ordered the quarter tonner?

Alien 2: Does she come with fries?

Lies, lies, lies. Movie trailers are usually better than the movie they're advertising. At least when they're done by a competent editor. We actually discussed that in a film class I had way back in the day.

it was good. Started kinda familiar territory, but I didn't know Death Wish was rebooting, or Bruce was involved. You know, like Kick Ass, Batman, Deadpool, The Crow, The Professional, emulating the original.

Don't know if the trailer is better than the film, but there were a lot of clips.

Were you offended Firefly teaser credit footage was not included in the show?

American Assassin looks interesting, from the trailer.

And that was before I just found out is the first film in the Mitch Rapp story.

Nah... I was a latecomer to Firefly. My brother had been trying to get me to watch it since he had gotten out of the army back in the day. We shared an apartment for a while back around 2006 and I had fallen asleep in front of the TV on the couch and he started watching Firefly while I was asleep. I woke up and saw an angel on the screen when Our Ms. Reynolds was playing.

Saffron was my Firefly trailer. She didn't lie.

I'm wondering why I've not heard of Novitiate. Apparently released this past Jan.
The cast looks impressive. I can't find the Liana work that I've seen, maybe it's not listed on her IMDB page, or I don't recognize it. Also Agron, Leo, and Morena's Homeland daughter Morgan Saylor.

Mostly female cast, rated R for nudity, and subject matter is sexuality, among nuns. Hmmmmm.
