I just saw Alien Convenant and it didn't wow me. Same goes for Guardians.

What gives? I'm disappointed. Here I was all set to go gaga over these, and other, movies and they got to the warning track and died at the wall, just short of a homerun. Underwhelming!

Disappointed:
Life
Alien
Ghost in the Shell

Not Quite Disappointed:
John Wick 2

Haven't seen yet:
Belko Experiment
Is Logan from this year?

Not disappointed:
The Promise
Gifted
Colossal
Hidden Figures - but some may have had this available to see in 2016.

Oh, I agree with your list JSF. Except for the one I haven't seen like Gifted and The Promise - I haven't seen those two.

John Wick 2 was awesome, Hidden Figures was excellent and Colossal was just plain fun and surprising.

According to IMDB Logan was released March 3, 2017. So not only was it NOT disappointing, it was excellent. One of the year's best. It may not win any Oscars, but it was damn good filmmaking. So far it's the best movie of the year, but we have miles to go before we sleep.

Wonder Woman was a bit disappointing.

But The Mummy wasn't disappointing, although I had lower expectations. I noticed the end credits score was the Theme from Conspiracy Theory, which may have been derivative of something like Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.

Not even wasting my time watching ...

Anything ' Alien ' related. Or 'Tranformers'. Or ' Mummy '. Or 'Pirates'. Anyone else see a trend here ?

I've not even watched Logan yet, because I get the gist of how it ends. I'll see it, eventually, but not in the theatre.

Liked Guardians, but it could have been a bit better.
Liked Wonder Woman the best, so far. I don't think it reached its potential, meaning it could have been so much better, but I don't regret the $ spent. ( No movie is worth 3-D money. Sorry. Just not impressed enough )

The last movie I paid to see in a theater was Snakes on a Plane.

You PAID to see that movie ?

Ouch.

BIG movies, super heros, space stuff , or really large scale scenery, and a Kaiju or two... that's what I'll spend my $ on. Rom-Coms, dramas... generally will play just as well on my 46" *( or bigger ) HD screen at home.

* I'm due for an upgrade.

lol, yup. Went my my bro and some of our friends. Didn't plan it.. were just having a fun day and I wasn't going to stay at home alone when everyone else wanted to go see it. I think since the year 2000 I've only probably seen a dozen flicks in the theater.

Let's just say that I don't suffer fools very well, and there have been some "complications" at the movies in the past.

Yeah, pretty much feel the same way Rappy. Those franchises have seen better days, all have worn out their welcome - Alien, Transformers, Mummy, Pirates, etc.

I thought the Mummy with Brandon Fraser were pretty good, but by the time it got to the 3rd one, I was done. Transformers same thing. By the second one, I was done - too stupid and the CGI, don't get me started. Ditto Pirates, why do people still go to these schlock movies? I'm also done with Cars, Shrek and Toy Story.

I agree Guardians could have been a lot better. Wonder Woman needed a tweak:

Select to view spoiler:

was spoiled by the final battle with Ares God of War, way too long and too much CGI. Come on, that No Man's Land scene was all kinds of Awesome

I saw WW in 3D and it really felt like watching a regular movie, although it was a bit enhanced. But, for the most part, you're right.

Baywatch. Finally watched it last night. It was still in cinema last week when I went to see Wonder Woman. This week the first 4 cinemas I went to did not have it showing. Finally found one, and on Tuesday night 7pm showing I was a couple minutes late for the start of previews - so busy that it took a few minutes to find a seat. Full disclosure: this theater is about 6 blocks from Lambeau Filed, and Aaron Rodgers recently traded ex-GF Olivia Munn for Kelly Rohrbach.

Anyway, I felt I was more entertained with Baywatch than I was with Wonder Woman. I'm beginning to think WW suffered from the Phantom Menace plague - too much backstory to tell, moves too slow. (A New Hope merely jumped in, introduced the characters, let the audience catch up.)

Plus, Baywatch includes Firefly alum Zac Efron, and Alexandra Daddario played with Nathan in Percy Jackson - and is now filming Nomis with Nathan and Henry Cavill, Ben Kingsley, etc. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6533240/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_1

I probably saw some episodes of the TV show, but not a big fan of the Hoff. I thought Pam Ilicic was cute, but didn't care for the plastic Anderson.

You might be expecting it to seem like a TV Special, but with more expensive stunts - check.
Maybe some oblique references to the show - check.
Maybe a bit more shallow that other cinema fare - check.

But it was entertaining, and I realized that the women were stronger than I expected - they stood up for themselves quite well.
Rated R for graphic nudity - no female nudity, and the male frontal was not a live person.

I really enjoyed Megan Leavey. Had very little to go on before seeing it.

I failed but intended to mention that this was an Orci, Kurtzman production, which I have not seen Tom Cruise in before. And Kurtzman directed.

I think I'm done for the rest of the year, until the next Star Wars.

Saw Wonder Woman Saturday, and while not horrible...neither of us LIKED it either.
HATED the part where she was trying to convince Chris Pine to lay down with her on the boat, liked the part where she took out the sniper. That end battle was just... lame. Oh, stand here and wait while I go get my sword.

Haven't really enjoyed anything this year. I too am beyond sick with all the sequels to the nth degree. Remakes, as well. If it doesn't pass 85% positive on reviews, or isn't a cheap seat movie, I'm not going.

Here is a list for next year.

I'm sure Hubby will see Deadpool 2 and the kid wants to see Incredibles 2
and we will see Infinity Wars when they are all out, but it's still a short list.

I heard that the execs tried to cut the sniper scene.

Morgan Freeman toasts the American Film Institute at its
50th anniversary gala

An exclusive group of policymakers, philanthropists and famous people (hey isn’t that Bradley Cooper?) gathered specifically to toast the institute’s partnership with the Library of Congress to preserve America’s cinematic history by safely storing more than 37,000 motion pictures.

Is saving the movies anything like saving the world? One ex-president said yes.

Saving movies would be about past films, not future or potential.
Hopefully, saving the World would be the opposite.
