92% right now on Rotten Tomatoes with 77 critic reviews.

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shazam

I'm still not going to see it in the theater, but this one is on my short want to see list. I loved the TV show Chuck, and except for that short lived reboot of Heroes, I've never gotten the chance to see Zachery Levi in anything else.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Isn't RT the one that fakes their numbers now? Why bother quoting them at all?

Because even though they faked their numbers, revamped their entire site in order to keep "trolls" from voicing their opinions before a movie came out, and they made 54,000 user votes disappear overnight after opening weekend, Captain Marvel still only comes up with a 78% critic rating and a not-fresh user rating of 59% currently.

This illustrates two things...

Even with a TON of help, Captain Marvel still doesn't look that great compared to virtually every other MCU movie made, with critics and fans alike.

And when you don't have a bunch of SJW bullshit as the bulk of your marketing for a movie, you can end up with a 92% critic rating before opening weekend based off of a good story and a charismatic lead actor.

It should also be noted that Rotton Tomatoes is virtually an arm of Disney marketing in 2019, and DC is the competition.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Screw Rotten Tomatoes. But I believe context matters here, and I'm getting a good laugh out of it.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

It just seems like a bad habit to reference them.

Agreed. I should have posted why I did in the first place.

It might not be the last time that I do reference them in the future, but it will always be in relation to Captain Marvel and the back door shenanigans associated with it.

SW is dead to me. When Mark Hamill flat out states Luke would never have acted the way we saw in SW: TLJ , when we get Mary Rey, and Space Leia Poppins , … totally dead.

But a week away from End Game, and w/ the run time for Godzilla:KOTM at just over 2 hours, it's suddenly dawned on me that what I've waited months and even years for... may not be so great after all.

For End Game, it seems no one has told Brie that being a team player on and off the screen is what has made the MCU a veritable unstoppable force. But she's a wahman, and apparently, even Chris Hemsworth isn't worthy to engage in some light hearted bantering while in the presence of Oh Mighty Mary Sue herself.

" Thank you VEEEEERY much ! " * screee !! *

The relative brief run time for GKOTM ( 2 hr 12 minute ) suggests things may be hurried and some fear the movie may be too disjointed. With 3 new main titans showing up, and possibly many more. all that has to be properly brought together , interweaving a ( hopefully ) more complex human subplot,

Hope I'm wrong.

I saw the entire interview you're referencing, and I had to say that it wasn't nearly as bad as others had painted it out to be when only taking those two or three clips out of context.

My opinion is that she didn't come off as a stone cold "empowered" bitch when you watch the full 10 or so minutes, but she comes off as a person who is extremely uncomfortable around people and entirely lacking of any self esteem. I recommend watching the full interview, if you haven't. I found it quite enlightening. I think everybody has her pegged wrong.

But that's who her weirdo messages appeal to. All of the other outcast weirdos on twitter that have no ability to act like human beings around other people and are completely uncomfortable in their own skin and take any chance they have to lash out about it.

At the end of the day, that's all any of these virtue signalling twitter warriors are doing. "Like me! Like me! I'm saying nice things! Like me!"

It's quite sad, really.

It's hard to tell in only 10 minutes, and with only two of the other actors who were in the movie with her, but I don't think she made any friends on set. She was the Jan Brady to Scarlett Johannson's Marsha.

BTW... already saw all of the spoilers for End Game.

Take that as a warning to be careful online for the next week, or an invitation to ruin it for yourself if you want to.

Operative: It’s worse than you know.

Mal: It usually is.

I too saw the interview, and Even Don Cheadle can't stand Captain Mary Sue. He's more subtle about it, but if you watch the facial expressions, hear what's being said almost under the breath, and see what's actually goin on, it's looking less promising for the future of the MCU.

Yeah... I don't think they hate her, so much as she didn't make any friends and she's so tightly wound that she brings on endless hazing that isn't going to stop because of it.

I don't think she really believes anything she says about herself or the hype surrounding her. She's weak and fragile, and that's why she's so quick to anger when somebody challenges that instead of just laughing it off. There are plenty of strong and independent women in hollowood worth looking up to that don't ever feel the need to come out and say that they are. When you've got to punctuate every sentence you utter with feminist ideology and/or how great you are, you don't actually believe any of it.

She's looking forward to the "future" of the MCU, post end-game. They're no doubt going to "reboot" all of the characters using some multi-verse craziness, and shoehorn all of the diversity in the movies that are ruining the comic book industry and surround her with her "people".

Feel free to continue watching after that happens if you'd like. It will send a strong message to hollyweird that this is what the people want.

She believes every word she is saying. "Thank you veeeery much". It's half dozen of one, six of the other, when you start talking about whether or not she has formed good bonds or if they hate her. Rumors have been that she is not their favorite, and I have seen nothing to dispute that. Point is, she is a new girl on the block, and hasn't done very much to ingratiate herself with the other kids.

Did you notice her cringey laugh at Don's bacon dispenser comment? All she had to do is just say something like, " yeah that would work… I really like bacon." But instead she gives is awkward ' that's so funny ' remark - she's just a weird , uptight diva.

There's no way that she actually believes that she's stronger than Chris Hemsworth, so I use that as a prime example of her saying things that she doesn't honestly believe. I mean, I guess you could make an argument that she's insane, but I don't think that's what we're talking about here.

I assume you have to have known people like this in your own life, especially in grade school and high school. If she doesn't flat out hate herself for some reason, she suffers from extremely low self esteem. She didn't make any friends with the cast because she is completely incapable of it on a psychological and emotional level.

Her friends are the Twitter army of like-minded weirdos that spend their days virtue signalling to get another hit of those sweet, sweet upvotes. All they're doing is virtually fellating themselves and each other. It's been scientifically proven that getting likes on social media gives a hit of serotonin which is normally paid out to your body by actually doing something good, working hard, reaching a set goal, or some other positive activity as a built in reward system.

I don't think they hate her. I don't think they enjoy being around her either, but I think they really just feel sorry for her when it's time to pack up for the day and go home.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I did not take her comments to mean anything else other than she is talking about Captain Mary Sue being stronger than Thor. And that seems to rub a lot of the original actors the wrong way, as they have put in 10 years into developing their characters and the MCU, and then comes along this random Hero who has barely had time to be introduced into the MCU, and all the sudden she is "the strongest avenger". To me, that makes no sense whatsoever.

You may be right. She might have been talking about her character, rather than her own real physical strength vs. Hemsworth's.

I mentioned before, I don't think she's insane, but because she surrounds herself with these SJW weirdos on social media, and the MSM and all the review sites put out stories everyday giving her the confirmation bias she's desperately seeking and labeling anybody who has anything to say about her that's short of overwhelming praise as trolls or incels, I think she could be bringing a part of her character's Girl Power into her own real world without the need for being insane. All she ever reads about herself everyday is how glorious she is.

You're probably aware that the extreme SJWs are constantly talking about how women and men are no different than each other physically. She's probably bought into that on some level, which I would imagine is easy to do from the comfort of your own home when talking in your echo chamber. Look at the anger on her face when she said that to him in the interview. I don't imagine it's as easy to convince yourself that women and men are the same physically when you're sitting next to 220lbs. of beef cake. I kind of viewed that as her stating something that in the back of her mind she "knows" is a "fact" while being conflicted because part of her knows how ridiculous she sounds saying it to somebody as imposing as Hemsworth.

I felt that this just added more fuel to her bitterness in the interview. It looked like any argument I've ever seen or been a part of when one person is so obviously right and the other person just starts flailing and blurting out non-sensical stuff.

Well... honestly, I could really care less if any of the egos of the actors playing the original Avengers were hurt. At the end of the day they're all playing dress up for big money, and just like I won't with Brie Larson, I'm not about to cut them any slack for forgetting that they're not super-heroes in real life either. I'm sure they can go home to their mansions and their millions of dollars and nurse their wounds.

Not even being a Marvel or MCU fan, I'm more concerned with what the fans think about this. You're right. It doesn't make sense. At least to normal people and fans who aren't intersectional-feminist SJW weirdo cultists.

All I can say is that I hope that fans tune out after End Game if this is just the first step for an entirely new SJW focused MCU. If the fans can't do that, then welcome to the new normal.

So nobody has The Unicorn Store on their list of must-see films for 2019?

It was so bad that even the SJW weirdo cultist reviewers online had to give it a bad review. Looks as though it sums up perfectly the "gimmie, gimmie, gimme" nature of today's stereotypical millennial generation. Turns out that message comes off as pretty embarrassing to today's 30-something pink haired weirdo feminists who have to go about their days wrestling with their notions that women can do anything vs. their nature to be entitled elitists who expect everything great in life to just fall into their lap without actually doing any work for anything.

Who knew that by 2019 a movie featuring a near 40 year old woman dating what looks to be a black college age boy would fail so miserably?

But... But.... It's a three-fer!

Starring SJW Idol and 2019 cult leader Brie Larson and doubling as her directorial debut? Check.
Interracial couple? Check.
Female Empowerment through Cougar Fantasy? Check.

And yet it bombed hard.

Ruh-Roh, Shaggy.

It looks as though the people have spoken and are going to need a healthy dose of great writing, great acting, and a message that people actually care about if you're going to keep force feeding those identitarian politics pills down the throats of the general public from here on out.

We're talking to you, Marvel.

Might want to reconsider your idea to go with female Thor straight out the gates after End Game unless you've got a better story line than Captain Marvel. Those ill-earned box office numbers were gained from sandwiching the movie in between the two most anticipated MCU flicks to date, an insane marketing budget and 10 years of good will generated since Iron Man I came out.

I think I was fished in w/ the whole Brie Larson construct at first, before knowing anything about her. ' Room ', which no one saw, got her an award. Then, in Kong: Skull Island, that raised her stock. She looked solid enough as an actress, cute enough to be both serious and eye candy, as needed. Hell, she may very well be the next Scarlett Johnansson. Bam !! The MCU couldn't dream of being so lucky !

Because , as it turns out, they weren't. Not by a long shot.

Oh, and btw … Brie DID have a stunt double for Captain Marvel. And there's the business of her actually having an arse double, because she doesn't exactly fill out her suit all that well... she's flatter than Kansas in the backside.

Well... to be fair, the leaked email showing that Disney/Marvel was looking for a female stunt double didn't specifically say it was for Brie Larson. It could have been for Scarlett Johansson, who is also 5'3". (I did have to look that up... she seems much taller on the big screen).

But yeah... probably not.

lol

EDIT: Huh... interesting.

Seems that somebody went to work on photoshop for ScarJo too... I thought that image looked a little flatter than other images I had seen of her before and I was right.

30, huh? She looks rough for a 30 year old. Comes off as a bitter spinster cat-lady.

No joke about Unicorn Store. Even SJW weirdo cultists hate it.

The story I heard was that it was shopped around and nobody wanted to put it in the theater. Netflix was happy to finally show it in a big virtue signalling move after Brie was Captain Marvel though.

Some random dude with just over 200 followers on Twitter made a completely benign comment about how it didn't look very impressive after the trailer was released and he felt that she was just riding the coattails of her recent stint as Captain Marvel.

In steps Netflix's account to put him on blast and reply to him all of her accolades that she's gained on IMDB. Brie sees this, then re-tweets Netflix's post about how wonderful she was. All of the sudden this nobody on Twitter gets over 50,000 SJW cultists harassing him on Twitter and he has to delete his account.

Pretty hilarious that after all of that, the reviews for a movie not good enough to even make it to theaters was reviewed pretty terribly by some of her own kind.

I just watched a video today that pretty much spoils the entire End Game movie.

I'm curious to see if it was right or not. If this actually was the main plot points of the movie revealed ahead of time, Disney has a huge problem on their hands, and whoever is responsible better find a bunker to hide out in for the next few decades.

I don't imagine that this leaked info is going to hurt End Game at the box office. I'd be surprised if it didn't rake in at least 2 Billion worldwide in the theaters. I'm just amazed that it's possible that this info could have leaked early, and I can't believe the size of the balls on whoever was responsible.

I won't reveal any of the alleged spoilers here. I'll just say that fans of the MCU shouldn't find much to bitch about here. It sounds as if Captain Mary Sue only plays a small role and is not the Deus Ex Machina that some had feared she was going to be. Something that she does has significant impact in the movie, but a majority of the work that needs to be done is spread out among the rather huge cast that has been put together in the last decade. (If this is all true, part of me almost wonders if a closed-door decision was made to intentionally leak the plot of the movie to quash any rumors that Captain Marvel was going to ruin the climax that took a decade to build).

TBH, the spoiler video I watched makes it sound good enough that I'm even interested in watching Infinity War and End Game at some point. Although I think the only other movies that I've missed that I'd be interested in seeing was the 2nd Guardians, and possibly the Ant Man movies. Maybe Dr. Strange too.

I think the question isn't whether Brie had a double - she did.

But was this for Captain Marvel, or End Game ?

I didn't see C.M., so my guess is that this suit is from that, and Brie 'may' be talking about a double for End Game.

I suppose it's possible she didn't have any sort of double for her End Game scenes, but honestly, as the film has like 30 characters, how much stunt work does she really need done ?

My guess is far less than in her origins movie.

I think the story is fascinating and refreshing. The music is the main character, as far as I'm concerned, and everyone else is just there for support. ( Of course, I say that now, before actually seeing the movie )

Yeah, I like the Beatles. And I doubt this movie would have anywhere near the same impact if another group or artists were exchanged for them.

Point is, in a world of reboots, super heroes, sequels, prequels... this looks to be a genuinely new story ( or at least new version ) that hopefully will work on screen.

* This trailer dropped back in February, and I think the movie comes out in June ? That seems rather quick , in a world where we get 9-10 month heads up for the big blockbuster movies, like Avengers, Godzilla, Star Wars, etc...

I've not heard much buzz about this movie at all, though it does get very positive reactions to those who see the trailer. I'm hoping it wraps up w/ some clever, well thought out conclusion, but it could all be just some dream sequence, or coma dream, and then he wakes up. We'll see.

Plot synopsis on IMDB for Yesterday: "A struggling musician realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles."

Most successful cover band ever?

Cover band ?

Do you even know what that term means ? They didn't COVER hardly anything. They wrote their own music. Elvis,... yeah, he's a cover artist. ( aka thief, if you ask those in the know )

The Beagles repulse me, but I know many people are gaga over them.

About a decade ago I was sitting with a friend and the radio DJ Bimbo introduced the next song as Paul McCartney and...the Beatles? I knew my friend was rolling his eyes before I looked.

I wasn't calling the Beatles a cover band.

I was referring to the plot description where a struggling musician realizes that he's the only person in the world who knows who the Beatles were. I can only imagine that by the 3rd act he's heading one of the best bands that ever were in this alternate universe where the Beatles never existed.

The Beatles are legends.

Ahh, got it. I suppose it is a matter of perspective. If no one else has ever heard of the band, is he really ' covering ' them ? Of course the interesting question I have is what happens to all the records and paraphernalia that had Beatles on them? There was a time where you couldn't turn around without seeing a Beatles T-shirt, lunchbox, poster… Did all of those just suddenly disappear?

He did go to the Internet and try to do a search for Beatles, and all he got to come up what is the bugs.

That is some Thanos style snapping going on.

Well... I honestly would be surprised if the movie didn't involve some sort of multiverse sci-fi subplot, however minor. Maybe some reference to the Mandela Effect, such as also stumbling upon it while Googling the Beatles and coming up with nothing. Maybe he'll say something like "I know Kit-Kat has a hyphen in it!"?

There is a lot of people who are pretty convinced that they're living in a different universe today than they grew up in because of all of the little things that have "changed" from how they remember them.

I think this could be a fairly interesting movie in that regard if they don't overplay their hand and make half the movie about the multiverse, since it's already been done to death on youtube. I suspect that if this is the route they took for this movie that this might be the case since the IMDB page makes no mention of Mandela.

The one thing that the Mandela Effect believers don't have is something HUGE like "what if the Beatles never existed after I crossed over dimensions?".

In that scenario, all of the history and memorabilia of the Beatles wouldn't have disappeared. They just never existed in the first place.

Maybe I'm wrong about all of this. All I know about the movie is a one sentence plot synopsis from IMDB.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Other than Ana, that cast leaves me wanting.

Speaking of which, Happy Birthday Ana De Armas.

And Kirsten Dunst, Gal Gadot, Dianna Agron, Sophie Turner.

Am I the only male on the planet not smitten w/ Sophie Turner ?

Nothing against her, all that much, but she just seems … meh. Dry. Lacking in emotion when she acts. And I'm generally drawn towards redheads.. just sayin'.

Maybe I'm subconsciously annoyed at her as Jean Grey in the ' alternate ' X Men. I don't get that version, of First Class, and never will. I am glad that's now basically a dead series, and we've seen the last of that bunch.

2 things I've noticed Sophie Turner in, GoT and X-Men movies, she's a red head.

So she's like Emma Stone, of who often shows up as a red head, but isn't.

Got it.

( I still like Emma Stone, as a red head, even if it's fake )

Pika Pika , anyone ?

Never a fan of Pokémon, but after seeing Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, and with Ryan Reynolds as Pika, I think I'm in.

*** ETA ***

So, post viewing, and it was decent. A few jokes were a bit too on the nose, but it was still cleverly done.

Sorry, but some of Pika's lines were damn near Deadpool , minus the profanity. Could have been me though, as I've seen Deadpool and DP2 so many times.

The movie is obviously loaded w/ Pokémon references and gags, most of which went right over my head.

Reporter girl reminded me of a young Mary Elizabeth Winstead,

Was the reporter Lucy Stevens? She was in 3 Billboards.

I had heard about this, but now you got me interested. Might see it next week after John Wick.

Yeah. I don't know anything about Pokemon. Even my youngest brother who's around 15 years younger than me was probably too old to have been much into them. I think I remember him playing a Pokemon game on one of the gameboy handhelds at one point, but he never talked about them like a little kid would have when they were huge, and I don't ever remember seeing him with any Pokemon toys.

I think at this point though, we probably all know a little bit about Pokemon. It was such a huge phenomena for so long now that it was kind of hard to avoid.

Did you ever hear any of the really strange stories regarding Pokemon Go, the mobile game that allowed you to see "real" pokemon in the world around you and catch them? Turns out there were some real creepers out there that were using the app to lure children out to dark places at night.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
