Jessica Alba in her prime wasn't able to get audiences in the seats for Fantastic Four.

I don't think there's any way to make that translate into a movie that sells. With interest in comic book movies finally waning, I wouldn't even wan to take the risk.

Old films are getting re-run in the cinema, Bram Stoker's Dracula released 30 years ago and Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of the classic tale is returning to theaters?

I have posts here saying they should have done that during the Plandemic, but then they went and outlawed the theaters for a while.

I'm glad they're doing it now. I hope they put out some that will make some BIG money though, because the ones they've released so far aren't really drawing much of an audience and I'm afraid that if they don't start making it worth their while they're going to end that experiment. I'm not counting the re-release of No Way Home because that was just stupid to re-release that so early, but they did put E.T and Jaws back in the theaters.

My vote for re-relases would be Ghostbusters, Aliens, Back to the Future, Terminator 1 and 2, The Goonies, the original Indiana Jones Trilogy and Spaceballs.

Except for Terminator 2 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, all movies I didn't get to see in the theater when I was a kid and would pay full price to see today if they showed them.

I think they're reaching too far back. At least E.T. was in the 80's, but I think the audience most likely to go see old movies is around 40 years old right now and Jaws and ET are just a little too old-timey. ET might not be, but it's more cutesy than anything else. And anybody old enough to have seen that in the theater probably has kids that are way to old to make that a great nostaligia trip to show to their young kids.

A new movie based on the old "Munsters" tv show. It's being directed by Rob Zombie. :) I have placed a hold on it at my local library.

You'll have to let me know if its' any good Brenda.

It looks so weird from the trailer. And the idea of Rob freakin' Zombie making what looks to be a campier movie than the TV show was is just a little mind blowing to me after seeing some of his movies when I was young.

Maybe he does it justice though and it's actually good. He actively has been trying to get the rights to do this for quite some time. I guess he loves the Munsters.

I will SIX.

A friend of a friend who doesn't like horror movies saw it and she liked it. So, I'm hoping too.

I loved the Munsters tv show in repeats and apparently Rob Zombie didn't write it, just helmed it as director. So fingers crossed it is decent.

I think I have seen all I want to see at the movies in 2022, might watch the Oppenheimer film but I don't think its this year, maybe 2023 or 2024? They will try get people back into the cinema with some 3-D thing, Avatar 3 a sequel of a sequel-squeeeeel of a sequel coming in Post-production or how do remakes and re-imaginging work these days another Prequel Sequel of Avatar? A new streaming service PlutoTv is here, rumors of Hugh Jackman returning as his Wolverine role in a Deadpool movie almost broke the internet. I think 'Logan' gave the character a good ending. Fantastic Four is coming again but who knows...maybe 2024...very meh...who cares about that dead franchise, there will be a Venom 3 but perhaps Sony should have sold Spider-Man properties back to Marvel/Disney before the big crash came?

Almost the whole industry is dead, Hulu vs Amazon woke trash vs HBO Max vs Apple Tv vs Netflix vs Disney Plus. Maybe Hollywood was already dying and hit its peaks but we never seen it, what finally kills it is Woke Tranny Black Gay Lesbian Muslim Jihadi Shemale Transexuals put into your old Italian period piece, why are they in this old medieval film, perhaps diversity quotas to make a production as stupid as possible. So what finally kills it perhaps its the Streaming direct pay to view downloads and online services, it killed the DVD market when films almost made money at the box office they could make the money back on VHS or DVD sales, now they get one shot and something was culturally lost over time. That new fucked in the head Generation Z just watch the latest clip on the phone David Hogg, Greta Thunberg, some pakistani Afghan islamic Malala something pushed into front of the tv with a bullet in her head was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but then she starts to praise islamism, another Gen-Z tv celeb Kardashian family trash, some dead Rapper, most of Gen-Z messed up in the brain.

The Drive-in theater or drive-in cinema it came before WW2, then came cable TV to VCRs and DVDs and finally people stuck on their phones watching 5 min downloads. Going to watch something like StarWars, The Champ, Ghostbusters, The Warriors, Life of Brian, Clash of the Titans, Grease, Superman, a French arty film a Star Trek tv show it was a community experience, everyone talked about it, a cultural impact for weeks and months to come, Boomers had babies, friends at the movies made the new generation.

I've said before that I hate the Horror genre as a rule, but it's not because I hate horror movies. There are some really great ones I've seen over the years, but usually they're just cheap and quick trash that they put out as quick as possible and always make a buck off of.

That being said, has anybody seen Smile yet?

$20 Million for opening weekend on a horror movie that isn't a big franchise like Halloween is pretty impressive, and it's the first movie to crack $20 Million domestically since Bullet Train came out.

I have to say they've done a good job with the radio advertising. I've heard ads for it for a few weeks every day and they made them creepy and intriguing.

My hope is that it's up to The Ring caliber. Sounds like it has some plot beats in common with Denzel Washington's 1998 flick Fallen, which I also rank extremely high on the Horror genre list.

I missed it. The show schedule didn't allow me to shoe horn it in to my schedule.
Now it's gone, the cinemas chock full of reruns, repeats, "retros" instead.

Maybe nobody here has, but people are going to see it. It did 80% better than The-Numbers predicted it would do in its 2nd weekend and crushed Lyle, Lyle Crocodile, which The-Numbers thought would have an easy win for the weekend.

With only a 22% drop from its debut to its second weekend, it's the lowest 2nd week drop since Sing 2 came out in December of last year.

Smile, which came out two weeks before Halloween Ends beats HE at the box office the weekend before Halloween. Smile also beat Halloween Ends in it's 2nd weekend at the box office, and currently holds a $32 Million dollar advantage over it. Unlike Smile, which only saw a 22% drop in its second weekend, Halloween Ends saw an 80% drop, followed Halloween weekend by a 52% drop in its 3rd weekend compared to Smile's 40% drop in its 5th.

It sounds like people hate the "last" Halloween flick, but I'm sure the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis turned out to be a woke dipshit in her final years didn't do the film any favors. Her twitter feed is almost as bad as Rob Reiner's.

So sad.

To Die For.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22866664/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2

Libtards at imdb have tried to bury it by labeling this film a "Video"

Based upon a true news story from less than a year ago, John Schneider selected 20 October as the date he wanted it released for Cinema showings, so that folks would have 2 weeks to reflect before Election Day. And he did it.

I cannot find it playing around me, but it seems available online.

Imagine the horror of an American Flag unfurled being within viewing distance of a Public School in America. Next, the American Anthem might get played at sporting events.

Smile has a lot more hereditary cred for horror. Kevin Bacon started off doing some classic horror, and now his daughter (with Kyra Sedgewick) is leading this film.

Hereditary cred isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

I mean, I liked Julian Lennon's one song, and there were two good ones by Jacob Dylan, but they were no Kevin Bacon.

It just occurred to me that you meant that his daughter was his daughter with Kyra Sedgwick and you didn't mean that Kyra Sedgwick was in the movie with her.

I think that bubbled up from the depths of my brain because I remember there was some cop show or legal show that Kyra was in that my old man was a huge fan of and he probably mentioned that they were married.

I didn't even know their daughter was in this movie. I never saw any video footage of it or the video trailer, but the radio trailers didn't mention any cast names at all. They were all VERY short ads, probably under 10 or 12 seconds, but they did a really good job of making the movie sound both creepy and intriguing with just the short audio clips and sounds they used. I was impressed by the ads.

If you see it, let me know what you think. I'll probably watch that one with my Brother when I see him.

I finally saw Smile. I was entertained.

I was right. Very much in common with Fallen. And though I didn't feel it was The Ring caliber it was also very much like The Ring. To me, this is a good thing since The Ring and Fallen are two of my all time favorite horror flicks.

It tried SO hard to be both of them, and for most of the movie it was actually succeeding. I won't spoil anything, but let's just say I'm REALLY hoping that there was an alternate ending filmed and that we get a Director's cut or something that has it included.

I mean... It was fine. But up until the last 15 minutes I thought I was going to have this in my top 5 horror movies ever made, but IMO it didn't stick the landing. It's still very good, but without a great alternate ending floating around out there it did not reach Greatness.

I'd never heard of Sosie Bacon until this flick came out, but it should be said that she's a fantastic actress and watching her act is worth the price of admission alone.

Smile doesn't even make it in the top 150 movies of the year where Disney's Strange World makes 149?

How does that happen? Are there certain requirements to make this list that Smile didn't meet?

Without Smile on the list, I've only seen 2 of the movies of this top 150 of 2022 and I'm quite proud of that fact. However, Number 2 on the list "Everything Everywhere All At Once" is the other movie from 2022 that I still intend to see.

I'm kind of disappointed in myself for having seen Black Adam (which did admittedly have a few LOL moments in it), but my dad and my brother wanted to watch it when I was down visiting him and I have to negotiate with them and trade off what I want to watch vs what they want to watch. I usually would choose not watching anything, but that's not an option down there.

My trade for Black Adam was Christmas Vacation though, so I was happy with it.

Haunting of The Queen Mary, the first in a trilogy of horror films about the RMS Queen Mary, a retired ocean liner that remains permanently moored in Long Beach, California.
