Minions is the type of movie that is silly, filled with sight gags and child-like behavior, but had a little something for the adults to enjoy as well.

Set in the 60s, it tells the story of the Minions origins and their quest to find a evil master to follow. It goes into the history but I never found myself bored or disappointed, actually just the opposite. As I looked around the theater during previews, I saw that the place was packed about 3/4 by adults. I happily went along with my niece and her daughter, I laughed, chortled, snickered and guffawed my way through the majority of the movie (there was a rather cute scene near the end with one of the minions and Sandra Bullock's character) but that scene never actually got maudlin or overly saccharin.

Minions will definitely get a nod from the Oscar people for Best Animated Feature, but it may even get a nod for Best Picture. Seriously, it's that good. Of course, the field hasn't exactly been peppered with great fare of late, so they may round out the landscape with Minions, although it is early in the season to predict such a move, still though it may be considered. Pixar has some stiff competition from the little yellow guys.
From the looks of things, it's going to make a mint at the Box Office, and rightly so. Two Thumbs Way Up and definitely worth the price of admission.

America loves a winner!

FUN! summer flick, to be sure. I mean, it's Minions, so you get what you pay for. I just wish they could have done more or something a bit different w/ Scarlet Overkill. Not terribly, just the whole story seemed, a tad... off. Not sure why.

I heard that only the fifteen minutes of the beginning and end were any good?

Maybe a handful of critics panned this movie, but it was funny throughout IMHO. The story with Scarlett Overkill was, as Auraptor put it, a tad off, it still had enough laughs along the way to get my vote.

It was slapstick in places and straight up farce in other places, but overall quite good. Was it as good as Despicable Me, not by a longshot, but, like I said, still enjoyable. One of the things I liked was how they thought of the grown-ups in the audience by placing the majority of the story in the 60s. The kids, meanwhile, got tickled by the rather rude and slapstick humor, almost like 3 Stooges-for-tykes.

Be on the lookout for The Secret Life of Pets, from the trailers it looks hilariously funny. Produced by our friends at Illumination Entertainment. Yes, the same guys that brought us the Minions.
