America loves a winner!

Roy Scheider, a stage actor with a background in the classics who became one of the leading figures in the American film renaissance of the 1970s, died Sunday afternoon in Little Rock, Ark. He was 75.

That sucks to hear.

That is sad. I always say some people can't be replaced. His work shows it. One of my favorites is the Seven Ups.

Rest in peace, Captain Bridger. You've more than earned it. There's a whole bunch of great actors up there waiting to share a round.

Damn shame. At least he lived to a ripe old age instead of dropping dead of an accidental overdose of prescription medication at 28 like Heath Ledger. Of course it still sucks that he was suffering from a form of blood cancer.

I of course remember him from JAWS ("Smile, you son of a bitch!!!"), but I also remember him from NAKED LUNCH (arguably the most fucked-up David Cronenberg movie ever, and his role was equally fucked up) and RKO 281 as George Shafer, the head of RKO and the only studio ally of Orson Welles during the making of KANE.

Another icon has passed. Jaws, 2010, French Connection, etc., all great films or so-so films made great by his acting. The one movie I really remember (almost as much as Jaws) was Sorcerer. R.I.P. Mr. Scheider

Thought he was great in All That Jazz and Blue Thunder, even though I didn't care much for the movies.

Yeah it's sad.
One of those actors who always delivered even if the rest of the film was so-so. Very much respected in the industry from what I've read.

I also remember him from The Rainmaker, top performance when he was in court and put on the spot.

Think I'll watch Jaws tonight and Blue Thunder tomorrow in honour of him.

A great actor, a classy guy with a chiseled face. Like stated before, he could make a bad movie fun to watch. There was one of these on HBO recently....Michael Madsen kidnaps Roy Scheider ( The President) with a plan to free his wife...silly movie, but Roy was cool. Also remember him in some pretty racy movies....one with Ann Margret, and one with Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Jaws was the first movie I saw in the theater. I think I was a re-issue, cause it was around 76-77. I will miss him.

God Bless Roy.

Now I am learning about scary.

That really is sad. He was very good at seeming vulnerable, yet tough at the same time. R.I.P.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I loved him in so many things...Jaws, French Connection, All That Jazz, The Seven Ups, 52 Pick-Up, Cohen and Tate (with Adam Baldwin!), Naked Lunch. But my absolute favorite is Sorcerer.

Damn, we've been losing a lot of good ones lately.

That's the name of the movie, directed by William Friedkin in 1977. It's a remake of a French film called The Wages of Fear, about men transporting nitro-glycerine through some treacherous terrain for it to be used in blowing out an oil-field fire.

Loved him in Jaws of course and in All that Jazz. I never knew that he could sing and dance. The heart attack scene at the end was beautiful and horrible all at the same time.

I still remember riding my bike past the billboard on Sunset Blvd.

I actually met this man years and years ago when I was just starting out as a reporter. He was friendly, gracious and kind to me during my first ever 'celebrity' interview and I deeply appreciated his understanding of a jittery journalist.

I met Roy 10 years ago at a comic con of all places. He was really nice, and I liked him a lot. I've enjoyed every movie he's been in. He's pretty much one of those actors thats hard to not like.

Rest in peace Roy.
