America loves a winner!

I know it's a nothing network, but hell, I thought for certain that show was done in 1/2 a season, if that. Now, after how many years , I see it's still on the tube?

It just don't make no sense.

Maybe they made a deal with the devil?

I still like Reaper. Not the best show on TV, but one of the best shows on that network (Supernatural being the other one).

And how could you say no to a preacher's daughter like Missy Peregrym?

Mike

Just lying smiling in the dark,
Shooting stars around your heart,
Dreams come bouncing in your head
pure and simple every time.
Now you're crying in your sleep;
I wish you'd never learnt to weep.
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
pure and simple every time.

It's only in its second season. It barely got that. They only put it back on because another show was canceled. There are problems with the show. For instance, they have no idea how to fit Andi into the show. She's a mess. They've screwed up the Devil/Sam dynamic. Considering what else is on, I'll keep watching it: Dancing with the Stars? American Idol? No thank you. Boston Legal* and NCIS** are entertaining but in perpetual renruns it seems.

So, Reaper it is.

*I have a lifelong crush on Spader. I can't explain it. It is what it is.
**I also have a little crush on Agent McGee, Sean Murray, because he's a lovable smart nerdy dork and I can't resist those.

Hmmm...sounds like you have a soft spot for intelligent, professional men with "just a hint o'" baby fat...

Tell ya what - let me give you my home number...

But seriously, I've day-dreamed in recent years about becoming a professional Alan Shore impersonator. I can see the myriad possibilities of such a career almost literally falling out of the trees and unfolding before me.

Indeed.

W W A S D ?
What would Alan Shore do?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It's only had 24 episodes so far, so it can't seem like it has been on that long can it? There were 18 in the strike shortened season last year, and only 6 out of 13 so far this year.

There are much worse shows that have gone on much too long - Heroes anyone?

I couldn't possibly watch this show (even though I tried) knowing there was a show called Brimstone on everyone's favorite network that lasted only 13 episodes.

And this year, they've added Eriko Tamura to the cast...

Honestly, what's NOT to like about this show?

Also, Ray Wise really does seem to enjoy himself way too much as the Devil; he's clearly having far too much run with the role, and if you're going to play a villain, what better villain to play than the Ol' Scratch?

True, Brimstone was good, but it was Foxized. I kinda like the light, candy-coated version of Reaper. Glover was great and Wise is a delight. Both are good in their ways.

I thought this show started in the fall of '07. Some shows didn't even survive the strike ( Pushing Daisies ) and this show is still around ?

I'm not trying to completely diss a show I've never really watched, but based on the premise and all I just find it odd that it's still on. I guess it fills a niche, that's kinda sorta out there, but not so much so. Like 'Charmed'?

I got nothin'.

That's not a bad comparison, but not quite right, either.

Reaper is an awful lot like Chuck in many ways, but more like if Chuck were set in the Buffyverse. But in comparing it to Chuck, the Charmed comparo makes sense, too. Reaper is to Chuck as Charmed is to Buffy. There are similarities, but one is clearly superior to the other.

What makes me say that your comparison isn't quite right is this: Reaper is WAY better than Charmed ever was!

Try Reaper sometime. Pick up Season 1, or rent the first disk; I bet you'd like it.

CYBERSNARK

Basically, Reaper is to the horror/fantasy genre (Supernatural, Charmed, the Whedonverse, etc) as Chuck is to the spy/action genre. They're both parodies that approach a fairly straight concept (Sam's soul is sold to the Devil, who puts him to work as Hell's Bounty Hunter. Chuck ends up with a government supercomputer in his head) with genre-breaking humour (Sam isn't a badass Hunter, he's a slacker drop-out whose best friends are fellow slackers. Chuck isn't a trained agent, he's a geek and computer nerd).

These are the guys Dean Winchester and Jack Bauer probably beat up in High School.

Chuck has Chuck's fellow BuyMoreans, the two highly-trained federal agents assigned to guard him, and an overarching conspiracy that he has to unravel. Reaper has Sam's loser friends, his dopey dad, the Devil, demonic bureaucrats, gay demons, and Ted, who even the Devil considers to be "a douchebag."

Plus, yeah, Ray Wise is the best portrayal of Satan there's ever been. He's just so likeable.

Don't get me started on the death of Pushing Daisies. I will harm an executive for that one if pushed enough. I"m a nice person..ish...I don't want to hurt anyone, but I will.

Sigh. I love that show.

A lot of it has to do with the network it is on. ABC needed a lot more in ratings for Pushing Daisies, but The CW is the new UPN, not in as many markets and hardly any show that draws more than 4 million viewers. Reaper, Supernatural and Everybody Hates Chris are the only shows they have worth watching.

Bingo. It's why Buffy could be a standout on the fledgling WB with numbers that a "real" network would have scoffed at.

It's also the reason that a lot of the best TV, at least in scripted dramas, is no longer on the Big Four networks, but instead is being found on USA, TNT, and FX, as well as on premium-cable networks like HBO and Showtime.

How many viewers, on average, was Battlestar Gallactica getting on SciFi when it was on? Enough that it stuck around for quite a while - and probably not enough that it would have made it on NBC or Fox.

There might be some viability for a show that couldn't make it on the Big Four being sold off to one of the "second-tier" networks. Personally, I'd have LOVED to see Firefly make its way to SciFi as an original series. Eli Stone would be a fantastic fit for ABC Family. Pushing Daisies would go well with USA's lineup - quirky stuff like Monk or Psyche, fun stuff like Burn Notice. T:SCC would be a great fit for SyFy, as would Chuck, and even Dollhouse. And those three shows would be a quantum leap forward over what that besotted network normally offers! :)

You have a problem with wrestling and ghost hunting?

Heh.

I"ll keep watching Reaper as long as it's on the air. But they need to figure out wtf is up with Andi and Sam. She cant keep breaking up with him every other week. It gets old real fast.

It has defied the odds in staying on through it's second season. But that will be all. Rumors are it is Kaput! In all honesty I have really enjoyed its run, in fact I would take it over Boss Joss new creation any day.
