Warner Bros. has announced this morning that Gal Gadot, most well known for appearing in the "Fast & Furious" films, has landed the role of Wonder Woman/Diane Prince in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman vs. Superman film.

In a statement, Zack Snyder stated: "Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."

Batman vs. Superman will feature the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, facing off against Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also starring Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne, the Zack Snyder-directed Batman vs. Superman hits theaters on July 17, 2015.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I think there will need to be some CGI enhancement, if you know what I mean.

I usually try to give casting choices the benefit of the doubt, but this movie is really straining my ability to do that.

She isn't quite what I picture when I think "super powered Amazon".

The comics are the very definition of how she looks. A wig will disguise the Wonder Woman actress's short hair. Like long hair, large deltoids can also be faked. In any case, she's more magical than muscular. http://plastic-surgeons.findthebest.com/d/c/Deltoid-Implants/Californi

Who you got in mind for your ideal Wonder Woman? Olga Kurkulina, the weight lifter Mother Russia from Kick-Ass 2? She's got muscles. A lot more than comic book Wonder Woman.

Acting skill can't be faked but big shoulders can be by the costume designer because Wonder Woman doesn't absolutely need a sleeveless costume.

There is a much bigger problem than size of deltoids -- I remember that Joss Whedon's career got stalled for a year while he tried puzzling out what his producers (not some future audience in the theater) wanted in a Wonder Woman script. It appears to me that puzzle has been partially solved and it didn't require real big muscles. The producers like the actress even if Wishimay thinks she looks too skinny for the part.

To tell the truth, I got no idea what these particular producers want in their Wonder Woman: ordinary or supernatural or pure magic or who knows? Joss Whedon had that same problem when he was trying to please his producers with his version of Wonder Woman. That's why the movie hasn't been made, yet.

Those people looked like they fit the role, but when they open their mouths, can't act the role. Maybe the producers didn't care so long as they show up for work on time and sober.

Im not sure how she'll do in the part, but honestly, I have so little faith in this movie that I don't really care.

I thought Man of Steel had some good moments, but ultimately the film failed for me. And this "sequel," which feels more and more like a half-assed attempt to get some of that Avengers money without doing the groundwork, doesn't give me much hope.

That - and Wonder Woman being brought to the screen by the director of Sucker Punch.... not faith instilling.

The general wisdom is that's is always easier to teach an actor to fight than teach a fighter to act.

As I said above, I have little faith in this in general - but I think its silly to get hung up on simple surface details like that. Good actors can lift weights (did you see Christian Bale before he did Batman Begins??), shitty actors ruin movies (do you really friggin WANT a Hasslehoff level performance, and if so - WHY? Seriously, WHY would that be ok, just to get some extra muscle?? Its not like WW's strength is actually proportional to her muscle mass here...)

I'm just sooooo fed up with body sterotypes for women. I kinda thought we were moving past all that for a spell, and it seems -especially with all this "gotta have washboard abs right after having a baby" absolute NONSENSE
that we've taken five steps backwards.

I don't want any more of this, especially because I have a daughter, but also because teen girls are sooo susceptible to this drivel that they kill themselves when someone notices they are ten pounds overweight. Is that silly to you and me? Yeah. But wiring in kids is completely different. Most don't have any emotional abilities WHATSOEVAH thank you Ipad-Pod-Phone or even an understanding of anything with the words "long term" they just can't deal, and we're not helping at ALL.

My kid and I are totally into How To Train Your Dragon if for no other reason than the whole cast of kids are flawed and it's all about saying "Work with what ya got" Now if we could only get the adults to accept themselves and their flaws and stop this ridiculous obsession with physical ideals we'll be one step closer to not being a species of complete SUCKITUDE.....

You're operating under the assumption that she'll do no training for the film, which seems a bit.... premature at best. Keep in mind what Bale looked like before shooting each of his Bat-flicks:

6 months before shooting Batman Begins:

His role just prior to The Dark Knight:

And just before Dark Knight Rises:

Now.... granted, Bale probably damaged his body doing such massive fluctuations, possibly even shortening his lifespan... but people can work out and change a lot, especially when it's pretty much their only job for a couple months.

And you can't throw a rock in LA without hitting a personal trainer and a gym. I wager she'll be a bit more stout when she appears as Wonder Woman.

Personally, I am FAR more concerned at the notion of WW being brought to the screen by the director who brought us Sucker Punch...

I agree that she seems way too skinny to be Wonder Woman. Though I find it interesting that you seem concerned about body image while you're attacking this woman's body. I don't think she's too skinny as a person I just don't picture Wonder Woman being that skinny. I don't particularly view Wonder Woman as ripped either. She's just toned in my mind.

In the end it doesn't really matter what I think. I'm not going to see this movie. Man of Steel was garbage IMO. It was almost laughable at times to me. Luckily everything I hear about this movie makes it sound like a dumpster fire. So, hopefully this will kill the DC movie universe for a while and they can reboot with someone who's willing to stick to the comics.

That's my problem in a nutshell. Hollyweird says that women are only allowed to come in "thin but toned and of appropriate height and cheekbones" these days, especially in movies. I'm tired of them picking these cardboard cutouts and presenting that as the only option over and over and over especially to kids. Yer damn right I'm sick of it and I AM gonna pick on their choice when their choice is harming kids. It is absolutely NOT SAFE for girls to want to look like that, AT ALL.

Speculation about what the movie will do with Wonder Woman: Perhaps the movie script is based on the story from Injustice – Gods Among Us. Wonder Woman is a major supporting character in that Superman vs Batman story. She is more talk and less do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injustice:_Gods_Among_Us

Or the movie could be based on the much simpler Batman vs Superman story written by Greg Pak, Batman/Superman, a new series that began publication in June 2013. In the one issue I've seen, Wonder Woman is the invisible woman. If she comes to the party, I hope her costume has sleeves to hide the padding that gives the actress muscular arms.

Same as Wash, Batman dies with a big hole in his chest. Is it too spoiler to tell you that Batman won't remain dead for very long? It makes me optimistic that Wash somehow also lives.

In the Injustice – Gods Among Us story, Superman's archenemy Lex Luther creates a pill that gives anyone the same physiology as Superman. It is very satisfying to see Batman's butler break Superman's nose. And Superman deserved it, too.

I'm not happy that Wonder Woman is on Superman's side. She should be kicking his ass. Even weirder, Superman and Lex Luther are on the same side. The reasons are complicated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injustice:_Gods_Among_Us#Comics

I bet you're right, since Superman has political ambitions in Injustice – Gods Among Us. He's a parallel universe Superman who decides that Earth, for its own good, needs him as a benevolent Dictator. This universe's Superman has to visit that universe's Superman to beat some sense into his head. I don't think movie audiences will ever be ready for a story that twisted.

The story in the movie will probably be no more complicated than NYC (I meant
Gotham City) attacked by Aliens, Superman to the rescue. Wonder Woman will assist him. For inevitable conflict implied in the title Batman vs. Superman, Batman's mind will be controlled by Aliens. Marvel used mind control twice in Avengers, so DC might copy that.

Is Superman A Fascist? from http://dish.andrewsullivan.com/2013/12/06/is-superman-a-fascist/

Richard Cooper worries that “comic-book movies are all about superior beings dominating everybody else”:

The main problem is force: sheer physical force, which lies at the heart of the superhero myth. . . Superman triumphs by being able to move faster and hit harder than everyone else: essentially a fascist concept. … Fascism also relies on people who must be crushed. The Batman films — and indeed the entire Batman mythos — are based on the idea that what criminals really need is a damn good thrashing, because it’s the only language these punks understand. The vicarious thrill in seeing Batman yell “Swear to me!” at some pitiful creep who swears to God he doesn’t know anything is for the nasty-minded child in all of us: an innocent pleasure until you start to think about the politics.

Chris Yogerst is unimpressed by this argument:

This reading of superheroes is common but wrong, a symptom of trying to impose political ideology on a universal, fictional myth. Superheroes do say something about the real world, but it’s something pretty uncontroversial: We want to see good triumph over evil, and “good” in this case means more than just defeating the bad guy—it means handling power responsibly.

The “fascism” metaphor breaks down pretty quickly when you think about it. Most superheroes defeat an evil power but do not retain any power for themselves. They ensure others’ freedom. They rarely deal with the government, and when they do it is with wariness, as in the Iron Man films, where Tony Stark refuses to hand over control of his inventions.

Devin Faraci adds that not all superheroes are alike:

It’s telling that Batman and Superman predate WWII; they both come from an age when little guy America wanted to be seen as tough. The Marvel heroes, though, come from a time when America was trying to juggle its self-image as the underdog with the reality of being the biggest, toughest kid on the block. These heroes were created during the Vietnam War – Iron Man’s first origin is explicitly set in Vietnam – and they reflect the cognitive dissonance we feel as ‘good guys’ who could also wipe out the Earth at a moment’s notice. If anything there’s a discomfort with power and force inherent in the Marvel heroes that is anti-fascist. … [In the X-Men franchise, w]e have the hated mutants working to change society’s view of them, working to remove institutionalized racism and, at the same time, doing it peacefully. The X-Men come into conflict almost exclusively with their own kind, and that conflict is about stopping violence, even when that violence is a reaction to hate. And they’re led by a guy who is so physically unsuperior he can’t even walk.

I wouldn't expect mind control either. The whole movie won't be Bats v Supes - I doubt we get more than a couple scenes with them directly at odds.

More likely, we'll get something like this: Bruce Wayne partners with Lex Luthor to rebuild Metropolis after the destruction of the first film. Wayne/Batman will use this opportunity to study/vet this new alien force which claims to be good - but could be the greatest threat to the world, ever. I expect him to be the one to discover Kryptonite (or something similar) to keep "just in case."

Meanwhile, Lex will be whipping up public sentiment against Supes, and will produce some sort of "fighting villain" like Metallo (possibly secretly using Wayne tech, or stolen kryptonite, leading Bats to investigate Luthor more closely).

Diana will likely be a smaller role, setting things up down the line, possibly an envoy from the Amazons set to contact the world of man once the threat of Zod and potentially Superman means they can no longer remain hidden.

In the end, Batman will have to help a weakened Superman defeat Luthor and Metallo (or whoever), with maybe a bit of pinch-hitting assistance from Wonder Woman.

I get the feeling that comic book movies are drifting far, far away from any remotely believable or possible reality. I pine away for more realistic sci-fi. I get nostalgic for Firefly. Superman seems like a story invented during the Great Depression by Jewish teenagers who just wanted to fight back in their imaginations against gentile bullies. Kid stuff in other words.

There are three essays about what got broke in Man of Steel (2013). It was like the movie was written by lazy, poorly informed children.

not sayin the average American boy would kick her out of bed...but I'm at an age where I'd appreciate maybe another 5 years on an actress for this franchise...fine to use kids in hunger games etc....and twilight for depressed teen movie thing...but I liked the age they were going for in the last batman franchise...and I was disgusted with the prior one after they left Keaton behind..and who the heck decided casting for batgirl...OMG! what a looser!...it's just hollywood pop at the time..

frankly I've yet to watch the latest superman and "Afflack" (lol) being cast means I'm not going to be seeing this one either...I've got my Dark Knight 3 pack in the bag...that's a nice wrap to the story and I'll leave it at that.

I think what you are experiencing is called getting old, so, good choice on the screen name. :)

When you think people at or close to 30 are teenagers, you sound really old. Do you know what these people are to actual teens? Old People. Double their age.

She is the same age Ann Hathaway was when she made Dark Knight Rises. A year younger than Bale was for Batman Begins. She's a 2 years older than Cavill was in Man of Steel.

Basically, she is exactly the age you say you want... while saying she's too young.

Appearance in B v S was impressive. The follow up movie was even more so.

Her appearance was the best thing in BvS and her own movie was the best of the DCU so far.
