Now, you guys around the worl must have heard of a cult tv show over here in england called Dr. Who.

If not heres a kinda brief history...

Doctor Who is a long-running British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC about a mysterious time-travelling adventurer known only as "The Doctor".

The programme is a significant part of British popular culture, widely recognised for its creative storytelling and use of innovative music (originally produced by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop). It is also known for its innovative use of low-budget special effects for most of its history. Elements of the programme are extremely well known and identifiable even to non-fans. In Britain and elsewhere, the show has become a cult television favourite on a par with Star Trek and has influenced generations of British television writers, many of whom grew up watching the series. Doctor Who was ranked third in a list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes of the 20th century, produced by the British Film Institute in 2000 and voted on by industry professionals. In 2005, the series came first in a survey by SFX magazine of "The Greatest UK Science Fiction and Fantasy Television Series Ever".

A 1996 TV movie starring Paul McGann as the newly regenerated doctor after Sylvester McCoy was killed off, also failed to revive the franchise over in the States and in england becuase it couldnt find an audience, so, it was re-edited and broadcast as a tv movie revival.

After a long period off screen, 16 years in total not counting the TV Movie, a new series of Doctor Who started in 2005 starring Christopher Eccleston as the new regenerated doctor, continuing the programme from the original 1963–1989 run and the 1996 television movie. It is produced in-house by BBC Wales with some development money contributed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The 2005 series has concluded in the United Kingdom where Christopher Eccleston said goodbye to the franchise.

A special Children in Need "mini-episode" was broadcast on 18 November 2005, and the programme will return for a special on Christmas Day. This will be followed by a second series, with a second Christmas special for 2006 and a third series in 2007.

Production of the 2006 series is currently underway, starring David Tennant as the newly regenerated 10th Doctor and Billie Piper as his companion Rose Tyler.

Time lords have a number of lives, and when they are about to die or are seriously injured, they have knack for survival, called regeneration.

It was invented as an easy way to introduce a new actor for the same character, by regenerating into a new actor, it became another life for the doctor.

He has regenerated a total of 9 times over the past 40-odd years.

................................

Now for those who follw this series and are waiting for the christmas invasion, possiblt the best tardis landing sequence in the histroy of the series...

I am sure Tennant is up to the task! I cannot wait for the news season and I'll have to keep flying under radar with the peer-to-peer way of getting episodes! :D But that video...yah! That was a landing!

Is it just me, or does the style of "Something's coming" in the trailer remind you of anything?

Well, I was thinking more of "Can't Stop the Signal"!!

Maybe he's a different brigadeer!

Made the mistake of watching bits of that drama starring David Tennant last night - think his reign as Doctor Who has been ruined for me before it even began!

I watched the latest series on CBC here. It was awesome. Any word on when the Christmas Invasion will reach Canada?

(Or on if it'll be advertised when it does?)

Americans? Sorry. But you will be able to buy the deluxe box set of the first series in February.

Yeah, i made the same mistake in watching Tennants new murder drama, i didnt see all of it though, caught the last half hour.

didnt tarnish any expectations of him though, still looking forward to him taking the reins.

Another thing that annoys me is the reports on the new series in the papers. Talking about tennants accent, now he is Scottish, and in The Parting of the ways he sported an English accent.
However, in The Sun the other day they said he had a cheeky cockney geeza accent for the series, then they say he is keeping with the English accent and then hes gone back to scottish.

just a gripe i have with tabloids.

Shiny! Thanks for the reminder! It's 14-Feb, to be exact:

What do our friends across the pond think of the DVD set?

I'm just hoping the street price is reasonable.

Would someone please post a direct link to the Windows media file? Thank you kindly.
