I'm hoping for the best with the show, but I agree it's a silly promo. It's close enough to Spring for a real one.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I recall a lot of people weren't too keen on David Tennant taking over four years ago, but I think that worked out okay. I'll wait to form an opinion of Matt Smith once I've seen a few episodes.

I just started watching Season 1 --- the rebooted Season 1, I don't even know what to call it, there have been so many. Anyway, I started watching it because I love Torchwood, and I was curious when Capt. Jack shows up. I'm enjoying it. It's fun, kinda goofy.

It seems they change the 2 main characters every season. Why is that?

It was a shock when Eccleston decided to leave and some people thought the new version of Doctor Who would be over before it really started. But then came Tennant who took it to greater glories and proved the naysayers wrong and stayed for several seasons.
As for Eccleston leaving he gave one of the reasons for going is that he didn't want to get typecast, which I can believe, but I also think he wasn't prepared for the attention and fuss that the role got. Tennant has often spoken of this.

As for the companions they changed on a seasonal basis in the original shows as well. It's just that some would overlap with other companions as some of the time the Doctor travelled with more than one companion for a long period of time. But then equally you get companions like Sarah Jane who stayed a long while with two Doctors.
It's hard to say as there have been many variations.

As for the trailer it is pretty pathetic. Just showing you who we can expect to see rather than actual clips to give us a hint of what Matt Smith will be like.
Still I have hopes, they've changed the Doctor plenty of times before and only really failed twice in my opinion, Colin Baker and Paul McGann, and even then I think that's because nobody was ready for a darker, meaner Doctor with Baker and McGanns movie version was just too Americanised IMO.

That is a very odd trailer, but I'll withhold judgement until I've seen an actual episode.

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."

My main issue with the new Doctor so far is that he seems just waaaaay too young and seems too much of the "new vampire" look to me.

Makes me feel like it's going to be a teeny-bopper version of Doctor Who. Ugh.

CYBERSNARK

From what I've heard, Smith will be deliberately playing the Doctor as an "Old Soul" --less "teen heartthrob" and more "creepy kid." Consider how much angst Number Ten was carrying around when he regenerated; that might have an influence on the Eleven's behaviour.

Just to put that trailer into context, it was specially made to be shown at cinemas in 3D - hence all the weird spraying of flotsam and jetsam, camera movements, things flying into the screen, etc.

If you'd like to see the proper trailer for series 5 (at least the very first one with clips), follow the link:

As for fears about the new series, it's overseen and many episodes written by the same guy who wrote The Empty Child, The Girl in the Fireplace, Blink and Silence in the Library. If you liked those episodes (and few didn't), rest assured it's in safe hands.

Of course, newcomers will find this more traumatic but I've seen the Doctor regenerate seven times now (discounting Curse of the Fatal Death, also written by Moffat strangely enough) and you are supposed to miss the old Doctor for a while until the new Doctor does something and suddenly he's The Doctor.

STORYMARK

Eh, it's foolish to judge a show by a promo - particularly one that's clearly not made up of actual footage from the show.

I'm fairly confident in Moffat, so I'll wait and see before any freaking out.
