Actually, when you think about it, it's exactly the kind of show he *would* love.

Starbuck acts like a teenage girl most of the time and she kicks butt so I imagine thats where his femma-fighter-fetish is fullfilled. Wow, alliteration city.

ARCADIA

LOL, she really does sometimes, doesn't she?

Joss has said his favorite movie is "The Matrix." I can see lots of paralells between BSG and the movie. Like, you know, there are only a handful of humans that have survived and they're runnin from evil macines...

Plus, as much as people will accuse BSG of being "so plot-driven", it does take care of its characters so well. In some ways, it and Lost (among other shows) are the heirs of Buffy in that regard: action shows with characters that really, really matter.

Arcadia (aka Greyfable and/or Katie)
www.stillflying.net -- picking up Firefly were Joss left off. We will hold 'til he gets back.

Well, Katee Sackhoff is only a year older than Summer Glau, and is 3 years younger than Sarah Michelle Gellar, so I'd say she still fills that nubile ass-kicker archetype Joss seems so drawn to.

When it comes to tv sometimes Joss has worthless tastes, there's a spin off show Caprica in the works which already looks like junk

and What happened to all the Black people in the orginal ?
Ok we've an Asian or so in the new one but the ethnic composition isn't very balanced

Somebody should tell Joss the reimagined show jumped the shark

Production is in Canada, IIRC Canada has a lot less blacks then America. Smaller pool to pull from means there are almost certainly less actors and less talented actors. Picking actors based on race instead of ability is dumb.

Because they don't have a balanced cast of minorities? Seems like a pretty dumb criteria to judge a show on.

I was talking to a friend that I just introduced to BSG and he was mentioning how realistically, since race doesn't appear to be an issue in the world of BSG, after thousands of years everyone would be multi-racial. I pointed out that while he is correct it would be impossible to find enough multi-racial people to fill a main cast much less the bit parts that would be necessary. The studios have to work with what they have available.

Stargate is also filmed in Canada but you see a good percentage of people with African heritage in the series unlike new BSG. The lack of minorities in the new show is a bit of an issue for me but not a major one.

I have watched the show regardless, the reason it began to suck IMO is because they started pushing it down some morally ambiguous route with those Taliban parallels. I don't really know the old show but I feel Black Tigh was better mostly because new Tigh jumped the shark when the dumb writers made him a Cylon. I liked the realistic feel to the first season but bringing Starbuck and Madame Roslin back from the dead to please the shippers or soap addicts is IMHO when the show started to go off target.

I can see where you are coming from with this, I disagree but I can see where that could be a problem.

I'm also not too hot on the "final five" thing that they've got going on, I'm going to reserve judgment until the end though sometimes getting a good ending requires questionable choices earlier.

I also didn't care too much for the "dying Roslin" storyline but the big annoyance for me about that is that they are rehashing it now. I seriously doubt that shippers had any influence on her survival as she is one of the main characters and they aren't going to die until this season.

Starbuck's "death" and "resurrection" are plot driven, there's no way they were going to keep her dead until the end of the series. Again I can't see her return as influenced by the fans.

And where are all the Asians in Firefly? Throwing in some Chinese curse words doesn't exactly make the show ethnically balance, either.

Especially given the premise...

Yeah, because a highly successfull writer/show runner, who created the show that brought us all here, needs fanboys to tell him what to like....

The politics didn't burn me so much. What burnt me was I realized the BSG writers had run out of material and had no clue where to take the characters. It was rudderless once 'The Plan' vanished, rudderless once battlestar started becoming a mirror for ABC-News, Fox-News etc
We get enough 24/7 coverage of Afghanistan. Scifi to me was more about creativity and escapism not parroting some BS political slogan of the month, yes you can have political comments but don't MAKE THE WHOLE SHOW a platform for your political party.
I would have been able to put up with the politics if the characters were written well and the story was written well. However the writing in Battlestar went down the toilet

Well, YOU may not like topical scifi - but that's a pretty long-established aspect, and was essentially how the genre started in the first place - looking at current issues through the prism of futurism.

And if you think it was all a platform for one political party, you really, really missed the boat. Sure, it drew a parallel between the Iraq occupation and the Cylons, so I assume you think it's a "Democrat" POV, but it's also a series where the viewers were encouraged to root for a military dictatorship led by a religious fanatic. It's not nearly as simplistic or black/white as you are trying to make it seem.

EDIT: Wow, some douchebag really loves changing the title. Grow up and get over it, chump.
