LWAVES

This got mentioned in another thread but I have a hard time deciding between a lightsaber from Star Wars and a pulse rifle from Aliens.
The lightsaber has a certain grace and nobility to it with the added fact that it can cut through almost anything.
But the pulse rifle has the brute force and that underslung grenade launcher. Plus if you do a Ripley and tape on flame thrower that is one powerful weapon.

I think my heart has to go with the pulse rifle.

I like the rayguns in Mars Attacks! that reduced people to red or green skeletons...

Quite jolly, really.

SINGATE

I was mesmerized by the lightsabre as a child and it still remains my favorite sci-fi weapon. Though looking at the pictures it seems most of them would be rather uncomfortable to wield...some very awkward looking grips.

Well, Count Dooku's had a nice ergonomic design!

Yeah I like Dooku Lightsaber/Scimitar too, I am a little miffed that it seemed that non of the Jedi´s where using a similar design, I do admit that I once somewhere read(probably a fanfic) that described it as not being so good at the bashing offensive fire back toward the enemy, but a Jedi should be able to have 2 in that case.

and what fighting style is it that Dooku uses? at some points it seemed so effortless, would it be right to describe Dooku´s style as being passive agressive, with rather big dose of agressiveness mixed in:-)

Dooku used Makashi, it's more about minimal energy use and allowing your adversary to wear themselves out.

It's really hard for me to come up with a favorite weapon in sci-fi other than the light saber. Deckard's gun from Blade runner was pretty sweet, as is Mal's service pistol. I like the futuristic (yet at the same time) respective genre nod in each design (Mal's is more cowboy, Deckard's more noirish). Both guns are carried by average joes in the future, and look like they they're formidable, but aren't all sci-fi shiny and supremely high tech looking.

The respective pieces, first Deckard's

and we all know this one.
