New Bond movie due to be released late 2012. Director is Sam Mendes, starring Daniel Craig.

I miss Pierce Brosnan *sigh*

I wish they would stop making Bond movies just to make Bond movies and try to find a new and innovative hook for the character.

It used to be that a Bond movie MEANT something, but Bond is an artifact of the Cold War and the Cold War has been over for two decades. The early Brosnan movies mined the concept that Bond was a dinosaur, but even by the end of his run, the movies are what they are today: action movies that happen to feature a guy named James Bond rathr than Bond movies.

Nope, that was never the case. The delay has been all about MGMs financial situation, but Craig never said he was done. I think the closest thing may have been him saying that he wasn't sure if they would bring him back if it took too long to get a new movie up and running, but that's it. Anything about him bailing from the role was pure speculation.

Depends on what you want Bond to "mean". Casino Royale was very well received, examined the character in a way none of the other films have done, and updated the style in a way consistent with what came before. It also presented a Bond more in-line with Flemming's creation that had even been done on-screen.

Quantum of Solace... yeah, not so much. But that's one movie. No series gets it right every time, especially one as long running as Bond.

I really don't think any Bond movies really ever meant all that much to begin with. They're escapist fantasies, not much else.

I'm not trying to attribute heavy substance to a "Bond movie," just to note that a "Bond movie" didn't used to be just another action movie. It was something with a very distinctive feel and flavor. That has been long gone.

I don't think it's "long gone". QoS blew it, no argument. But Casino Royale was aces as far as I'm concerned.

The Brosnan films had the right feel, sure. But most of them sucked pretty hard.

I think only the first maybe 2 Brosnan movies had it right, then they degenerated. While Casino Royale did have it's up-sides, I don't think I was nearly as impressed by it as you were.

Different strokes.

My childhood crushes were McGyver and Remington Steel. I willl always love Pierce Brosnan, so I will always be biased. Girly response, but I don't care...

Absolutely. I really dug Brosnan. Just wasn't wild about any of his movies, save Goldeneye.
