Things to Do in Dallas Tonight: April 7
Posted on April 7th, 2011 10:43am by Liz Johnstone
Good morning, fellow nerds. There’s at least one other person in my office who watched Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and there’s definitely one or two Firefly fans floating around, which is why I begin my post with an insanely important public service announcement. Summer Glau is here, in Dallas, for the DIFF screening of Legend of Hell’s Gate: An American Conspiracy. . . No self-respecting fanboy (or girl) would miss this. http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2011/04/07/things-to-do-in-dallas-ton

The Legend of Hell’s Gate: An American Conspiracy www.imdb.com/title/tt1220217/ (Repeats Apr 7 at 10 p.m. – Angelika 6): Starting with the overblown title, it’s all just too much. Far too many unnecessary subplots and characters. And a score that huffs and puffs and leaves seemingly no moment without musical accompaniment, as though fearful that we’ll be lost without its constant emotional cues. This low-budget western, set in 1876 North Texas, adds up to far less than the sum of its many superfluous parts. My guess is that 26-year-old writer/director Tanner Beard www.imdb.com/name/nm2451445/ couldn’t decide which movie he wanted to make: a historical drama based on a little-known legend about the true fate of an infamous killer, or a pale imitation of a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid-like buddy movie. He just needs to call this version a rough draft, dive back in, and remove about half of the current cut. Then he might have something. Maybe. — Jason Heid http://frontrow.dmagazine.com/2011/04/today-at-the-dallas-internationa

Other than Summer I've never heard of any of these actors.

STORYMARK

Henry Thomas was Elliot in ET, so you probably have heard of him

Eric Balfour has been in a lot of stuff (Texas chainsaw remake, Skyline, 24), but Whedonites may know him from the Buffy premiere, as Xander's best friend. He also did a movie with Alan Tudyk called Rx, but I'm not sure if it's even been released.

And that poster is terrible.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

Like Storymark says: Eric Balfour www.imdb.com/name/nm0050156/ was bare-handed killing ExtraTerrestrials last year in Skyline. Henry Thomas www.imdb.com/name/nm0001794/ was the kid in E.T., thirty years ago.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Kevin Alejandro has been in quite a few shows over the past few years. He was in Drive with Nathan Fillion, and he's had recurring roles in Ugly Betty, Shark, Weeds, Parenthood, Southland and True Blood(as Lafayette's latest lover).

RX was released, saw it a couple years ago thru Netflix I think? Alan played a gay drug dealer. Balfour was in Six Feet Under too, playing Claire's boyfriend. He's a good actor (and 6 Feet Under is one of the most awesomest shows of all time :))

Jenna Dewan-Tatum was in Step Up (yes I love cheesy dance movies) and she will also be playing one of the bunnies in NBC's Playboy if it gets picked up (which Sean Maher is in as well).

Agree about the poster, and the trailers son't look too hot, but I think I read somewhere that doing a Western was on Summer's wishlist, so good on her that she got the opportunity.

They're all charcter actor's, I'm sure I've seen them all 100 times on TV and in films.
