There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm sure there has been mention of this film here before but I was too lazy to go looking for it. It languished for a long time trying to get theatrical distribution, but finally got a DVD (and Blu-Ray) release a couple of weeks ago. I just watched it, rented from Netflix. I was prepared to write a review for my site if I liked it, but that's not gonna happen. Instead I will give you a five word blurb.

Avoid it like the plague.

There was so much potential here, but a great cast was squandered on a puerile script, with so much gratuitous violence I was nearly sick, and I'm still surprised I watched it all. Nathan Fillion, Rainn Wilson, Kevin Bacon, Liv Tyler, Gregg Henry, Sean Gunn...all very good actors, but they couldn't make me like this one. I reserved one name for the last, because Ellen Page is really the only reason to watch this film, and yet that was still not enough.

I know there are several here who think my taste in films is questionable, and there will be those of you who will like it. But if you don't, just remember I warned you.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I was afraid of this. Thanks Easy

I agree with your assessment. While I thought Kick-Ass stayed just the right side of the comedy / violence line in Super you started thinking fairly quickly 'this guy is just a nutter' . At that point the comedy was gone and I was left feeling rather uncomfortable with the whole thing. Kick-ass is the much better movie with similar subject matter.

I sold my Super DVD the day after I'd bought it...

It is possible that he was so much a nutter that everything in the movie was all in his head, not just the weird visions he was having. After all, in any sane world would Nathan Fillion be the Holy Avenger?

There was one scene where I almost (and I probably should have) stopped watching. It is one thing to beat up on pushers, muggers and pimps, quite another to take a pipe wrench to the man and woman who had cut ahead of him in the movie line. That's being a nutter to the nth degree, even if it was just in his head.

Well props to them for making a good trailer at least. I thought it looked like it had potential.

It had potential but it just got very confused along the way. I dont thing audiences want to feel uncomfortable - Am I supposed to laugh? Am I supposed to feel revolted? Some might say it's 'challenging' but I don't think it was deliberately so , so on this basis I'd have to go with 'poorly thought out'.
