Hello,

I am dismayed at seeing violent imagery like this in politics, where targets are planted on people and states. This is especially dismaying in the wake of some attempted assassinations the country has endured. Each time I see this imagery, the opposing party decries it. Yet that same opposing party then proceeds to employ it themselves as though it was a good idea.

I am just tired of the hypocrisy on both sides, with each side ultimately willing to adopt any nastiness if it will get them the win. We need to hold our politicians and political debate to a higher standard, because if left to their own devices our leaders and potential leaders will simply climb an ever-growing mountain of excrement to get to the top.

I fully agree, and I'm totally disgusted they resorted to the same ugliness as was previously utilized. The fact that they were far more desperate than when it was previously used is NO excuse for sinking to that level!

As to your second sentence, how many times has that been said? I don't expect it to ever change, and now we have the addition of a few individuals with billions to spend being able to buy elections with those sorts of advertising methods. Hooray for Democracy...

It is irrisponisble imagery to use, on either side. And there is certainly hipocracy involved on both sides.

But lets be real - we've got axamples here of violent imagery from the left - a homemade posterboard sign, made with glue and a stick.... and we've got examples from the left - official campaign graphics and slogans.

Not quite the same.

Anyone see Jorge Robels new campaign spot? Case in friggin' point.

But...

Hello,

No buts. Let's decry it all wherever we find it. If one group is worse than another, it will become apparent without us ever using a 'but' as an excuse for any side.

That video is terrible, incidentally. One of the things I think undercuts his message is the 'A' hanging in the window behind him as he talks about deregulating eateries. It's a simultaneous advertisement (look, this place has an 'A') and a complaint against that very certificate.

And of course we have the obvious submachine gun rat-a-tat. I would be afraid to use such an image after recent events, but apparently there is no good judgment or good taste at work here.

The irony is that the video had a legitimate message which was drowned in its poorly chosen special effect, voiceovers, and repetitious blabbering.

Decry it wherever it happens - yes. But lets not equivocate the actions of random individuals with institutionalized policy.

I am not so sure I agree any more.
In fact, I am no longer fully convinced a peaceful resolution is possible - since every attempt at negotiation or compromise is either exploited as weakness or bitterly rejected, by folks who have *publicly admitted* certain intentions which I find not only appalling, but frankly dangerous.

To be completely blunt, I fail to see any benefit in playing nice with the GOP goosesteppers and their march to a theological fascism which I feel a direct threat to both myself personally and everything I ever cared about.
And thus if someone is willing to use violence against them, in thought, word or deed...

I will no longer gainsay it.

Hello Frem,

I can't agree. Violent words and even violent actions will do nothing to preserve us from the maniacs in power at this time.

It may become necessary to consider open rebellion at some time in the future, but right now violence is counterproductive in word or deed. I am very much NOT in the camp that wants to speed along the apocalypse. It will get here on its own and we must not abandon the principles of peace in the hopes of hastening its arrival.

If we do, we only serve to invalidate ourselves as voices of reason in contrast to their ill will and murderous intent. Nobody will be interested in the shots heard round the world if those shots are aimed at murderous madmen that nobody cared for to begin with. It is important that those shots be made by the madmen and aimed at the advocates of peace and freedom.
