1. Nearly every topic title is inflammatory to the "other side" to get views and posts from either side.

2. The regulars from either side and their insults drown out any voices of reason from the true "middle of the road-ers".

3. Occasionally, somebody from either side bites onto something one of the "middle's" say, and attack them for being stupid and for being on the other side.

4. When the "middler" responds with a valid comment, it is ignored by the attacker 99% of the time....

5. New topics emerge everyday that drown the old topics.

6. Nothing ever progresses.....

The Real World Event Discussions forum is "Stalemate" personified.....

Hello,

Two opposing sides with a middle space between them suggests a situation of less dimension than I observe.

I think you have at least two axis and four directions of travel.

Thank you for revising my post Anthony....

As per Anthony's keen observations, I'd just like to suggest that in the ACTUAL Real World, he's absolutely right.

There is nowhere to go, except for UP and DOWN and WEST and EAST and NORTH and SOUTH and every single micro fraction of a degree every single way in between.

After taking my "2D" model, and putting it up against Anthony's "3D" model, it's even more sad that in the end there seems only two consistently conflicting polar outcomes.

Hello,

I'm not sure you completely understood what I meant.

I mean that here on this board there are people who, in addition to being conservative or liberal, (I hate our political terminology) are also more or less authoritarian. This has enabled me to argue with both conservatives and liberals on various topics when the degree of authoritarianism (I think this is the right word) is in dispute. Four directions. (Left, Right, More Control, Less Control.) I have learned that 'Left' or 'Right' does not indicate how much control you wish to exert on the individual in and of itself.

Agreed fully....

And I think I did get it Anthony....

And even, perhaps, I took what you posted and expanded on it...

We don't live in some cartoon or Sunday Funnies 2D space anymore.....

Sure, there is a Right and a Left.....

But in the end, how much of the spectrum of ideas and ideals do they have domain over in today's 3D culture?

Not only can we choose to go North and South while they're busy going East and West...

But given the Extra dimension of 3D, who says that we need to even flirt with the possibility of even coming close to agreeing with the 2 party lines?

WTF do they think they are to legislate all morality on 300 Million people?

(edit: 6ix, your last couple posts were much more sensible than your OP. I surely wound not have come on so strong if I'd read them before posting. Unfortunately, we cross-posted.)

Hey 6ix,

Are you trying to brainwash folk or just yourself? All of us here are individuals. We forget this and the board turns stupid for a while. With the Presidential election coming on, passions flare, and the stupidity increases. This thread doesn't help. Another shallow analysis that creates characatures of a lot of very complex human beings. None of us is the same. None of us agree on all points. "A man sees what he wants to see..." so my question to you is: Why do you want to see the board this way?

You're dissatisfied with the level of discourse? You feel put upon as a "middle?" So what are you gonna do about it? Complain? Pat yourself on the back for this sorry insult to the entire board? Snap out of it! Or leave this place for which you demonstrate so litte respect. Not accusing you of anything here, just trying to wake ya up a little.

Another dualism I'm seeing a lot of on this board of late is Nihilism vs. Humanism. I see a lot of nihilism in these threads: mysanthropy, contempt, demonization, life itself sucks, hopelessness masquerading as wit, etc. We all have nihilistic thoughts, but letting them run the show is nothing but toxic.

Unfortunately Nihilism is nothing more than self preservation overall these days...

At the end of the day, my unique minimalist position leaves me a solid rock no matter which way the breezes change overall, but that doesn't mean that I don't consistently watch people I care about fail.

When I do watch somebody I care about succeed, they spend more then they make and make themselves just as vulnerable when the tides inevitably turn....

The "Fool" on the Hill is not just a snappy Beatles Song......

For anyone who lives it, who I imagine Lennon did full force before he was killed, it's a horrible position to be in...

Nobody ever wants to listen to your "stars are falling" rhetoric when things are going good, but maybe these days.... who knows.....?

At least nobody gives a F about me so I won't be shot in my driveway..... like John.....

Although they spent ZERO time elaborating off of that thought, it's probably where the speech to Neo in the original Matrix from the Agent in the movie came from.

"In Utopia......"..... "Entire crops were ruined".....

Jack, if you've managed to integrate three dimensions into your thinking, try adding a fourth: Time.

How I feel about some things today is not exactly the same as I felt about them 30 years ago, or 20, or 10. Or maybe even a week ago.

We evolve.

Well, some of us do, hopefully.

RWED has changed many of my views, and led me to not only new informations, but new way of looking at information.

However, RWED is best taken in a non-election year. I decided to take 2012 off after 2008. The partisan nonsense is just in the way. I'll stick my head in once in a while, but I'll prolly be around after the dust settles. I expect we'll all be able to throw a big party to celebrate the obama and romney's gay marriage as co-presidents. Of course, the only snag in this is that they really are the same person, dr. jackass and mr. hyde. But rwed is best taken selectively, avoid partisan political nonsense, and discuss interesting stuff.

I find these to be pretty true. Even when discourse starts in the middle it's the Ends that shout the loudest and the discussion ends up in the usual scrum. I come here to learn and what have I learned the most? Kwicko has shown me there are at least 185 ways to hand AU his nubbin' - that, and I should take fish oil (or is it krill?). Otherwise....

I agree too that if you don't like something it's up to you, so I will try some stuff. I do like Anthony's threads about alternative energy, etc.
The 2008 run up was fun, even exciting, because there seemed to be a balance of opinions. Now, it's just "Obama says he likes blue skies... is he crazy? Then why isn't he....??" I'm not really even depressed or frustrated any more over the simpleness of the Reps' approach and how that reflects on the larger US Us, it's all just "I hate Obama" in a variety of dull rainbow of colors, I feel Meh times a million.

@HKC - when was the last time you started a thread? I'm sure it would be fascinating.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm....

I love you Wish, truly, like a sister, and it pains me that you don't post more about your own lifetime issues in the journal. Sorry if I'm being weird about that, but I'm just saying that I've probably started posting in the "RWED" al lot more since you closed up about your own going-ons...

I HATE posting here.... it's always so negative....

Before I go into my next RWED diatribe here, YES, you're still there, and your family is still there... That's awesome. Your property taxes are like what..... 300 bucks a year....? Not knocking you... I envy you for having people you care about that far out from anywhere people would care to try to tax more....

What was your last HS Senior class in your area? 50 people or less, I'd guess...

I don't even remember my point here...

Yer sweet Jack

I post a LOT more during the winter, as I'm really not able to do much else, but as it gets warmer and I get around a bit more and the kid is out of school... It's not so easy... Don't take it personal, hon...
A look at my life...
Hubbs has been home more lately and we circle the one computer and growl territorily more, we just went on a little vacay- which I planned and implemented, I promised my kid I would get the new bathroom done so that she could move into the basement by the time school comes, and she is bored and hungry EVERY 15 damn minutes and either wants to go to a friends house or wants the neighbor kid to come over (and the neighbor kid is really really obnoxious, accident prone, and simply CAN'T follow directions or stop being sooo aggressive), my gran is begging for my time because she feels so lonely, I get the groceries, I plan and pick up the materials for the re-model, I pay the bills, I cook the food, I clean ALL the things, try to make room for a love life that's nonexistent when you have a nine year old who never leaves you alone and you don't have a babysitter for now because he died, a husband who's extremely moody and lately only talks about guns, gaming, and goddam memebase pics...and is on the verge of his 19th nervous breakdown... This isn't even going into the little things I do, or the other list I get to do while she's in school........

All while trying vainly to hold my failing body together a little while longer...I held a baby for a half an hour yesterday and haven't been able to use that arm for the last 18 hrs... It hurt soooo much that I massaged it until it is bruised.... Or the sneezing fits that last for hours, The nerve problems that keep me awake half the night, or the intestinal problems that leave me groaning and exhausted...

I'm here when I can be cheery, and am thankful this place is still here when I need ta vent, negativity or no.... but I can't be here all the time.

And Jack....fer god's sake... Go get ya a nice girl and bang her senseless. Internets is fun and all but not to be used as an excuse to put off relationships with real people and you are WAAAAAY too young to be soooo fixated on taxes and home improvements...You own yer house, there's gals a plenty would be thrilled just with that...Find one that's not a sponge and go for it...

Ye'r sweet 2 Wish

Totally wish we we weren't "a state away" even though we're not really a state away. I bet me and hubbs would be good friends after 5 minutes.

You need to get a 2nd computer for the house girl.... unless you're all opposed to that notion. In fact, disregard what I said about that. As cool as my Dad and step-mom's house was when the kids lived there, there were 3 computers and 4 TVs in the house. They all could do or watch whatever they wanted without ever having any interaction with family. They're all doing awesome, so that's cool, but it was weird to knock on the door and everybody was in a different room before guests came over. My bro's doing their school work (supposedly), my dad downstairs watching some Sci-Fi movie or TV show I'd love and my step-mom watching Dancing With the Stars or something I'd hate just as much lol.....

The rest of it... I feel so sad for you. It can't really be that bad... you're just posting the bad parts here. There's no reason you'd put up with it all if there weren't a lot of good in between. Did hubbs really have 18 prior nervous breakdowns for real???? I didn't feint at all or anything, but there has been one time in my life where I was sure I was having one and it was the worst feeling in the world. If you haven't experienced one yourself, I'll give hubby that it's a horrible thing to go through.

Giving your daughter a basement "house" is cool, but I'd have it checked for Rayon and all that other BS. I don't believe in that crap myself, but why should I? I smoke 30 cigarettes a day and eat processed crap because it's cheap. Who knows....? There might be something to it. I don't care about me, but if I had a kid I wouldn't want them living and sleeping in a glorified bunker with cancer causing agents.

Really Wish... I think you need to give yourself 15 minutes to a half hour a day to just stretch and bend and maybe do some light workouts and cardio. You spoke about these maladies before and that's why I was shocked that you're more than a few years my junior. I don't have a six pack at the moment, but I'm no slouch and my "weed-pulling tan" makes me look like a badass with my shirt ON even though I'd get winded running from my front porch to the stop sign. I smoke a pack or two a day and drink about 2 1/2 cases of Icehouse a week though.

Maybe we could start a thread about "baby steps" and encourage each other, and maybe others would be encouraged?

I start my first "real" job on Monday night, the first I've had since December of 2009. Maybe that will give me some structure that I need and I can extrapolate from there?

Let's get back in shape Wish.....

I hate working out now, because I think of how much I used to be able to do and can't now, but really, once you get those endorphins going daily it's like the perfect drug. Even when I was hanging out and partying with friends I managed to quit coffee and pop altogether, smoked only 5 cigarettes a day, and only drank 2 nights a week all while bulking up from 137 lbs to nearly 200 lbs of muscle 2 years later without any steroids....

Again, just curiosity on my part... but have you ever noticed how much you post about "HATE" (all-caps, of course, to really convince us all that you're REALLY mad) and how this thing or that, this person or other, is THE WORST EVER TO EXIST, and all that negative crap you spew?

Have you noticed it? You, Jack, are a part of the negativity you decry. You are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Giving your daughter a basement "house" is cool, but I'd have it checked for Rayon and all that other BS.

Really Wish... I think you need to give yourself 15 minutes to a half hour a day to just stretch and bend and maybe do some light workouts and cardio. You spoke about these maladies before and that's why I was shocked that you're more than a few years my junior.Let's get back in shape Wish.....

I feel like there's something wrong with my translation array

First, the thing about hubbs and the breakdowns was a bit of a joke. He has mild Aspergers and his job is stressing him out a lot lately... I do not want to get two computers because it's important that we communicate daily, even if he doesn't like to, to maintain a healthy relationship.

Val Kilmer sings this song under his breath in "Red Planet" and it's become a nod for the two of us when something is very stressful...

My kid will be fine in the basement. All the walls have been painted, tile has been layed, new drop ceiling tiles are in, there ARE new windows and recessed lighting, and yes our radon (though I'm sure I do have a "Rayon" problem in the dressing room ) levels are fine. She is looking forward to it. Before we moved in the entire family who was here lived in the basement and it wasn't half as nice as it is now...

As for the health thing, you just don't understand, as do a LOT of people. Youth does not mean spotless health. Ever met a two year old with heart disease?? I have. If you run into Kiah in chat, she's worse off than I am- her health problems have put her in a wheelchair and she's about my age.
I don't know if you saw the other thread where I posted about my health problems but ONE of my problems is that I have Rheumatiod Arthritis. There are thousands of us young girls living with an old person's disease...Despite the commercials with annoying perky skinny people, that is NOT what the typical sufferer looks like. RA is a SYSTEMIC disease that they call arthritis because they are too stupid to know what causes it. My immune system is attacking itself. I get fevers from outta nowhere, somedays waking up and standing up take momumental effort, and occaisionally my muscles swell and burn like they are on fire. I can't even tell you some of my problems because it's really TMI. Cardio. hmmpt. Since you mention it, I am three times more likely to to have a mitral valve prolapse, so Cardio is probably the LAST thing I would do before they put me in a box. What's even worse is that I am severely prone to infection so taking the immunosuppressants to treat it would kill me too. Even stress makes my condition worse. You just don't understand, and unless it happens to you you most likely won't......

I know that making fun of girls who have gained weight makes you guys think you seem tougher and impervious, but it just shows how much you don't know, especially about womens health. When dad had cancer they put him on estrogen to slow the spread and he gained 50 POUNDS IN THREE MONTHS!!!(I should add that he nad next to NO appetite by then) I live with the shit daily. There was also a recent study that found out that white girls burn off fat much quicker that black girls with the same amount of effort(Not that I'm black) but it illistrates that most of metabolism for women is genetic or chemical and NOT that fat people are lazy. You don't even know how lucky you are to be healthy...Some of us don't get that choice...

But don't forget, it's a Democrat who said " It takes a long time... to control the people".

Because that's what they want to do.

Also, don't forget it was Reagan's campaign manager who said "We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false."

Reagan made him CIA chief so he could pursue that agenda with a vengeance, because that's what the GOP has always wanted to do. You are the end result of that thinking, a troll without a single original thought, capable of doing nothing but vomiting back the talking points that have been pre-digested and force-fed down your ignorant gullet.

Yeah... Probably better you don't get more than one computer. It was always kind of weird seeing everyone in different rooms at my dad's house with all the computers and TVs.

Sarcasm doesn't always translate right online. Maybe it was my fault for not reading it right. Glad hubbs isn't that bad off. He's got a good job too.

Hehe... yeah, Radon, whoops.... If it's safe, I'm sure she'll have a blast down there when it's all ready. I didn't have my own room until I was 13. I shared a bedroom with both of my brothers. We had a bunk bed with a pull out bed at the bottom that couldn't even be pulled out all the way because the dressers were in the way

I get the health thing. I just didn't realize you had issues like that. I hate to say "well, okay then, just throw in the towel" I'm sure you've talked to your doctor and done research on things that are safe to do. I just think there has to be something out there that could make it better.

I don't make fun of fat people. Some people are fat because they have a hand to mouth problem and others are by design. I think it's crazy they're already starting to tax soda and junk food like they do booze and cigarettes. Nobody had my back when they came after my vices. At this point, although I think it's all wrong, I'm not about to step in and fight for low taxes on junk food.

"Healthy" might be overstating my case. Though my maladies are self-inflicted, they do exist. I can lift a lot of weight from A to B still, but ask me to run from A to B and it will feel like my heart is about to pound out of my chest.

The problem is, Jack, that it is impossible to tell visually who has genetic issues and who doesn't. Even the ones who don't have genetic issues at first glance are probably over-eating due to emotional disabilites or because they lack functioning parts of the brain that control things others can, not because they WANT to be overweight...Last year there was another article that said they had found the parts of the brain that regulate things like guilt and addictive behavior. 98% of all docs probably couldn't tell you where those are on an MRI or have a clue what to do even if they did figure out something was wrong with those areas, let alone what the people dealing with those problems should do. You may not make fun of fat people, but you have no problem pointing out past girlfriends who are fat. Raising a child is HARD. People that raise more than one well adjusted child deserve combat pay... Attach a bawling neanderthal-like creature to YOU for a while and take away 60% of your normal sleep and see if you don't gain a ton... Not to mention you eat when THEY eat and they eat A LOT...

The first step to being emotionally well-rounded is to figure out that blaming people for most things that happen to them that are unintended doesn't solve ANYTHING. Wanting the best for people is something I understand, but the only thing you can do is encourage, for being judgemental just pisses people off...and occaisionally encourageing people pisses them off too....

Mike, we should tuck that one about Reagan's CIA chief for every time Raptor comes out which HIS quote (which, like much of his outdated material, has become so repetitious and boring). His habit of tossing out irrelevant shit like this ridiculous, and it would be nice if he at the very least got some new material. Not that he doesn't try...

Hey Wish,

I'm the last person to judge bad behavior, even those which we are genetically pre-disposed to. When I smoked weed, I smoked a TON of weed. When I got off weed, I compensated incorrectly by drinking 100 cans of Icehouse a week. The only reason I have those extra 15 lbs I've got today is because of the 2000 calories of beer I consume on your average night.

Guilt has always been my enemy too. They say that B-12 combats that. I can't say for sure if that's true since I don't regularly take my vitamins like I should. I should invent a cheap beer that is chock full of your recommended dose of vitamins

I only point out past fat girlfriends because I'm usually twice as drunk while posting here in the RWED than my posts "usually" indicate. I'm not making fun of them. I feel sorry for them... and as you know, I'm not one to not share the hell out of whatever feelings or ideas I have when they flow out of me.

In the end, the fact that any ex-girlfriends of mine are fat and you know about it speaks volumes against my character, and not their own.

I'm a perfectionist, and at the same time, I also can create worlds in my own mind that are Valhala compared to this purgatory we've all been thrust upon. That's with or without weed or booze, although they can make the journey even more fun....

Your most important sexual organ is the human brain. Mine operates at a level not tuned with many, if any others these days. I don't claim it to be smarter, or operating on a "higher" plane of any sorts, but let's just say that Jack at 32 years old and the tiny "empire" he has built for himself is going to require some girl to expose a burden of proof that she can compete with my imagination for my affections.

I'm very happy for my ex-girlfriends who are married, those who are still skinny and those who got fat alike. That's what they always wanted, and it's what even 19 year old to 28 year old Jack would never have obliged them. I hope they see their Silver Anniversary.

Without a doubt, they're all better off without me.

That's not to say there isn't a Yin to my Yang....

I just haven't found her yet.....

Hell... I'm not even looking...

The best relationships I've ever been in were surprises, and a majority of the women I've dated made the first move.

Ball's in your court, future Mrs. Jack...

Be forewarned....

The only women who have stuck around in the past for more than a few weeks were just as crazy as me if not more so, and they made the first move... Too much exposure to me, even from a novice "crazy" will inevitably lead to a desire for more crazy.

No matter how it ends, it's a wild ride though.....

The only consolation I can give is that this is the first time in my life I'm equipped with a safety net. Things are going well for me now, and if I like you and end up caring about you, I'll be able to keep you close to me instead of throwing you out like trash for your own good.

Really Wish.... there's three girls I've dated in the past I wish I knew how to contact today. Real crazy cases, but that crazy enveloped me in a "love" you don't find with any "normal" relationship.

I was living in my Grandma's basement with cats pissing all over, yet they still "loved" me.... what kind of life could I have provided them?

I knew what I was doing at my job, and I got Six-Sigma'd....

There are over 10 million idiots working Government jobs who I could run circles around.

See Kwick... ?

I always say that overall I agree with 70% of the people on 70% of the things and that the "sides" they pit us on don't matter.

Your "I told you so" to all of them almost made me shoot beer out of my nose when I read it....

On that note, Governor Quinn from IL just raised Illinois cigarette tax a buck a pack, making the new price for an average A grade carton of smokes to average out at 62 dollars a pack in Will County. I'd be willing to bet it would cost 16 bucks in the heart of Chicago for a pack now after that increase. This time though, it wasn't "for the kids". It was for the decimated, and completely unsustainable Medicare system the state runs. Nobody thinks twice about the dollar per pack raise when it's followed up by the fact that "25 million adults will be denied coverage" under the new plan.

Glad I moved out of the land of Lincoln Logs.....

Girls, yanno, we aren't entirely dense. We can see things for what they can and probably will be, and not for what they are by default. I married hubbs while he was working for MickyD's, and it turned out fine. I didn't ever worry we wouldn't be better off. As for looking up old girlfriends, go to facebook, type in name, go to google, type in name....Call girl and go "Hey sorry we didn't work out before, but that's only because I couldn't be who I wanted to be to you...You busy now???" And if that doesn't work, you could date Byte. heh heh heh. No really....The thought of you two posting in here until yer nether regions whither away and rust... Makes me sad...

Hey hey hey....... I'm only 32... nothing is rusting yet and the pipes are all working just fine without any draino.

I do miss the days when I walked around with a boner 50% of the day though.... :(

On the bright side, all that extra blood going to my brain probably raised my IQ 20 points in the last 10 years.
