America loves a winner!

*sigh*

I'd heard relatively good things about this flick. It had a decent premise. And the voice of Emma Stone. Meow. But I only thought it fair, at best. It could have been a real classic, had they decided to not go all Dr. Seuss with the flora and fauna.

A bit disappointing.

Really!? You didn't like it! I thought it was great fun - "Release the baby"

You're right Emma Stone's voice was magical, as was that of Nick Cage. Her animated self actually looked like her, in a prehistoric way, of course. I thought it actually told a story about the relationship within a family, especially between father and daughter.

It was inventive, it took the whole "mother-in-law" joke to a different level, although it did have some tried-and-true stereotypes, but it worked.
I thought that the animation fit within the story, but that, at times, had some realism that I didn't expect (ex: the volcanic eruptions and earthquake scenes, they were pretty dynamic and belied the cartoony feel of the animals and underbrush of the prehistoric landscape).

But we have to remember that this was geared toward the entire family and could not be too scary, plus they were going for their "signature" animation, to establish their little corner among the Toy Stories and Cars.
