I was bored and had some time to kill after cleaning one day, that I decided to watch a movie. So I turned to HBO and spotted Prisoners on the menu, the one with Hugh Jackman searching for his kidnapped daughter (it came out some time last year, 2013).

I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It is a detective thriller in the style of Silence of the Lambs. Gritty, suspenseful drama with some detective work thrown in for good measure. It stars Jake Gylenhall, Viola Davis, Terence Howard and Mario Bello.

The story slowly unfolds as we come upon Jackman's family during the Holidays in the suburbs of Pennsylvania. 2 girls are kidnapped and then the fun begins. Jackman gives a stunningly intense performance as the dad, and Gylenhall is solid as the detective. The script was solid throughout and kept you guessing as to who really done it, because they do give out some clues, but you weren't spoon fed.

Suspenseful and raw, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
