America loves a winner!

Maybe it's the end of the year, looking back sort of mindset, but it's dawned on me just how many great sci-fi legends who are still with us that are getting up there in age.

Ya know, every December we get the obligatory 'look back' at the past year, and it always includes notable names of familiar faces who have since passed.

Not the sort of stuff to dwell on, I understand. But there are seemingly scores of writers and actors who have pretty much formed sci-fi as EVERYONE knows it, and who have been doing so for good 30-40 years.

I think it's safe to say that, thankfully for all the Cons and social media, lots of our living legends still remain vibrant and active in the eyes of their adoring fans. We're out here, and often find ways to connect or show our appreciation for their life's work.

So, at least there's that, which is a fine thing indeed.

* EDIT *

Didn't know this at the time I posted the thread, but apparently Pugsley, form The Addams Family, just passed.

Ken Weatherwax, Pugsley on 'Addams Family,' dies at 59

We are of a generation that had TV offered to us on a platter. Prior generations had to deal with books, and radio, and in America we had a post-WWII boom with lots of previously unheard of leisure time.
Today's kids don't even know what a TV is. They won't likely miss many of the greats, and will only know of their generation's "samplers" and copycats and copyright thieves. They thing everything they want to know will always be available in their lap, via the unbiased and balanced cloud.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Any and every year is rough in that regard, because not only will there always be aging icons who die, but also suicides, accidental overdoses, car/plane crashes, and deaths from cancer and other illnesses. It's never pleasant, but death is a constant, just like birth.

It was a purely random thought I had, then a search, on whether or not some t.v. character was still alive. I thought they were, but today, you can't be too sure. Rumors abound almost daily for celebs, especially older ones, passing away.

So I stumbled onto this site - http://www.wa-wd.com/default.asp

Quite hard to stop checking once I started.

And I don't want to delve too deep into specifics, but certain shows have a LOT of stars in their late 70's / early 80's.

Ken Weatherwax interview ...

Sadly, Mary Ann Mobley died the same day as Ken Weatherwax.
