Here is a pic of Brandon Routh in the new Superman suit.

Apparently Bryan Singer went with the classic look. Singer decided to keep the cape, the blue body suit, the red tights — even the V-cut opening of Superman's boots.

But Superman Returns makes a few subtle changes to the suit:

The character's S insignia is slightly smaller and higher on his chest, and instead of being painted on, it's more of a three-dimensional plate.

The insignia is added to Superman's belt buckle.

The blue, red and yellow motifs are preserved, but the shades are slightly darker than the bright primary colors of the comics. Superman's yellow belt is more golden, and his cape is a deep scarlet.

The suit, underwear, and boots have a texture pattern now.

Nice, though the collar looks kinda odd. I guess I'm just too used to the open (shoulder-to-shoulder) collar (with the cape tucked in) in the comics.

This is cool. Thanks for posting it.

I'm pretty sure his eyes are blue in the pic, which relieves me. I was worried about that. Other than that, I think he's a fine choice.

I really want to see how Kate Bosworth looks as Lois Lane. I'm really excited to see that.

Smallville broke my poor little heart by its horrible writing and terrible casting, so I HOPE that this movie is good. I really do.

I've NEVER missed a Smallville. I enjoy it immensely and have found NO faults with the casting. Yes, sometimes the writing isn't perfect ... but heck, it's a comic book.

What do youthink the material is? It may just be the picture, but it looks a little rubbery to me. I'm assuming it's a spandex type cloth though.

The belt and \S/ are rubber, however the rest is a spandex-like material...as far as I can tell.

The boots are TOO low, the 's' is TOO small, and ths red briefs are TOO much like a male stripper's.
Other'n that, looks good.
Thanks for the pic.

This is what the new Superman should look like.

In addition to making the suit much better, the guy who did this manip bulked up Routh's neck, chest and arms, trimmed his hair, made his ears, mouth and nose smaller, gave him a stronger jawline and darkened his eyebrows.

Just even a bigger 's' makes a WORLD of difference.

I like it okay, it can be really hard to judge these things in a posed still picture. I'd prefer the "S" to be bigger, but this way it kinda evokes the 30's version.

And if the movies good, I may not care so much.

The effects will be great, the story okay, the dialogue snappy, the production grand, and the movie as a whole will be about equal to X2, not bad by a long shot, but will miss the high mark made by Superman the Movie.
Just a prediction I hope will be wrong.

Donner & Reeve were perfection Chrisisall

Y'know, equal to X2 would be fine. Really really fine.

Thank you for posting the pics, CrevanReaver! She looks...well, I guess cause I'm a youngster, I find her not to be the image I expected. I gotta do a lot more research on Superman. I just got into it. But I LOVE Kate Bosworth. Don't ask me why. I just think she's great.

About Smallville: I'm glad you enjoy it, Knibblet. I really am. But Smallville is the first time I have ever wished harm on a show (by that, I mean cancellation). I just think it had so much promise that was never realized or used, and it never got beyond mediocre until its descent into absolute chaos sometime this or last season.

Amoung my complaints are:
Bringing Lois Lane into Smallville. Erica Durrance is a talented, beautiful woman. But she looks at least 10 years too old to play 19. Even for the WB, she's pushing it. I find it incredibly distracting.
Tom Welling as CK. TM is gorgeous (I really have the biggest crush on him). I feel he looks the part of Clark. But he's just so...bland. And I've seen him in other roles. He's a really good actor. I just don't think he's ever really found Clark.
Kristin Kreuk as Lana. Okay. She's a gorgeous girl. Not the best actress. And Lana has been written in such an insufferable way. She's supposed to be all sweet and innocent, but she continually backstabs her friends and NEVER gets called on it. The story is written so that Lana is perfect. Always.

The show wasn't even able to handle the simplest plotline. Clark and Lana. They were supposed to be high school sweethearts. Or at least friends. The writers spent so much time making them long for one another that they forgot that they were supposed to be a couple. And then they got together for two seconds (or episodes). They're seniors in high school and they've dated for about two episodes. And the whole quarterback thing. Sigh.

I am extremely bitter about how Smallville has turned out, although I guess it got me interested in Superman myth and history. I don't pretend to be any kind of expert on Superman ('cause I'm REALLY not) but I just think its failed miserably the original concept, or even a good show. I use to love how there was a show with family and values. As a teenager, it was nice to see when kids screwed up and got punished by loving parents doing the best they could. I mean, there were these older people who hung around the show and were actually parents!

This is a small part of my Smallville rant. If you read all the way through it, congratulations. I know its based on a comic book, but I'm fairly sure I could have developed it better. I'm not trying to attack your opinion, Knibblet, but I'm just so bitter. Feel free to fire back! I really want to feel better about Smallville. If you do, we could maybe start a topic.
