BLUE SUN ROOM FAN FICTION - GENERAL
My first firefly fan fic, thought I would release it bit by bit so I can make the next bit better. The title is only a working title.
CATEGORY: FICTION TIMES READ: 1344 RATING: 8 SERIES: FIREFLY
Firefly was originally invented by Joss Whedon and co. This is his 'verse.
The drink was unusually bad in the Sha-ho tonight. And when the drink was bad, that usually meant bad things for Captain Malcolm Reynolds. The Sha-ho was a bar with a very poor reputation, one of violence and murder. Unfortunately, it was the only place on Taohise that didn’t swarm with Feds, and Mal needed that, for many reasons. Firstly, he had some issues with the Alliance. Mostly, however, it was due to the stolen security key he had in his pocket that would open up most doors in the city. So it wasn’t a surprise when the bartender was accused of watering down the ale, and even less of a surprise when guns were drawn. What it was, was an irritation. A complication. And if there was one thing Capt Reynolds didn’t like, it was complications. The first shot fired off by the bar. Mal grabbed his gun from the holster, and kicked the table to act as a shield, noticing that Jayne and Zoë also did so. “Zoë!” he cried down his radio. “Return fire, but be sure not to hit the contact!” “I knew we was here for something!” Jayne cried, and whooped as he leant out from his cover and shot a man in the back. The man hit the ground, his drink mixing with his blood as the red and brown liquid spread along the already dirty floor. Mal sighed, and fired his pistol, a highly modified pistol from his times as a soldier. Suddenly, the door below opened, and a man emerged. He made a “come here” sign to Malcolm. “Cover me,” he hissed down his microphone. Verra, (Jayne’s name for his gun) exploded seven times, and bullets found their way into three men. Mal ran out as Verra fired again, this time the spread of bullets hitting another few men, allowing Reynolds to make it to his contact. “You know, sometimes I really wish we could find some pubs with only a handful of blood thirsty men,” he said. “You got my key-card?” ”Yeah, yeah,” Malcolm said defensively. The man in front of him smiled, his cloak hiding his face. The door behind Mal suddenly opened, and Zoë and Jayne walked through. “Fight’s over,” Zoë said, slinging her rifle over her shoulder. “We even left some survivors.” “I ran out of gorram bullets…” Jayne complained. Mal sighed, and turned back to his contact. There was a small hand of coins in one of the other man’s hands, the other extended out. Mal dropped the card into the out stretched hand, and took the rattling bag. Despite it’s size, the contents of the bag would keep the ship, and more importantly it’s crew, running for another few months at least. “Nice doing business with you.”
* Simon sat in his room, typing away at his data-pad. He sighed, using the stylus to manipulate the image of his sister, River’s, brain on the screen. Nothing was making sense, the scan read that a large part of the brain was functioning differently, but there was nothing abnormal about the brain, aside from the removal of her limbic system, which alone baffled him. Simon looked at the time. 2:00 in the morning. He put the data pad down, time to give up he decided. Looking longingly at his bed, he knew that he had to go and check on River before he had a chance of sleeping. Simon stood up slowly. River was asleep soundly in her room, no problem there. Simon turned around, and headed back to his room. Simon quickly looked up. There was a noise in his room. Someone was in there. He grabbed a metal pole from the table, and pulled open his door suddenly. He then felt suddenly very embarrassed, having a stick raised to attack Kaylee. “Whoa!” she yelled, stepping back. “I was only looking for ya!” “Sorry, I’ve been a little on edge…” Simon dropped the pole on the table, and sat on his bed. Kaylee lay down on the bed, resting her feet upon Simon’s knees. Simon looked at her, grinning. “What?” Kaylee sounded suspicious, “Nothing, its…its nothing.” Simon kept grinning, but looked down at Kaylee’s feet. She continued to give him a funny look, but he quickly changed the subject. “So why did you want to see me?” Kaylee stammered. There were many thoughts running through her head right now, none she expected she would be able to voice. She suddenly felt strangely worthless, intimidated by this young doctor who could use words like bilateral hemothorax and actually have a clue what he was saying. She suddenly felt as though Simon didn’t belong with her, as though she was a homeless person in the street making eyes at royalty in the hopes that he would take her in for just one night. Simon looked at her, she had been silent for a while. Why? Was he that bad? Was it because he had been talking about a condition where there is blood in both sides of the pleura and the membrane covering the lung with River yesterday? Was he too much of a power-nerd? Maybe he needed to be tougher like Jayne. No, why would Kaylee be attracted to Jayne Simon asked himself. Wait, maybe she is, but I’m just too big headed to see it! Maybe she’s with the captain! He does have feelings for her… But what about Inara? The silence was broken by the screaming from next door. Jumping up, Simon ran through to River’s room. She was screaming in her sleep. She was screaming that it was coming.
