Only a short part this time, I didn't have time to make it longer. The next part will be longer I promise. As always, I love to get feedback, so please leave, good or bad. :D

CATEGORY: FICTION    TIMES READ: 1254    RATING: 8    SERIES: FIREFLY

Suddenly, Inara burst through the door. “There was a news bulletin on the Cortex! It’s been reported everywhere. Ships have been warned to stay away from the outer planets!” “Why? What’s been reported?” Mal demanded. “Ships keep failing. All over the galaxy. And it’s spreading out from the edge.” “What?” Mal looked over to Inara. “What do you mean?” “All over the outer planets! Ships keep falling that shouldn’t be! And it’s spreading towards the Core!” Inara paused. “All ships travelling to the Core planets have to spend two weeks in quarantine. They don’t know what’s causing this, but they aren’t taking any chances…” “So what are you telling me? That ships in the ‘verse are randomly falling apart for no reason?” “No, Mal. I’m telling you that everywhere we have been in the last six months has been affected. And there is no way to tell if we have been until its too late.” * Wash looked at the radar. Dozens of ships were downed all over the edge, even Reavers were affected. Nobody wanted to go anywhere near downed ships, the problem seemed to spread like a disease. That’s what they called it. The Ship Disease, that downed innocents and criminals alike, never caring which, nor making a difference between right and wrong. Then again, all of that could hold as much truth as the bogey man, and Santa Clause who came down ship’s exhaust to give presents to good boys and girls. And so the raiders started to pick off the weak and the injured. Now, there was no-body to stop them, Alliance wouldn’t go close to the outer-rim. Suddenly, an alarm started to bleep. Wash grabbed a com. “Cap, I’m thinking you may want to be up here for this!” Mal appeared at the door. “Why do we have gorram alarms for EVERYTHING?” “Because you never wanted to be surprised, Sir.” Zoë had followed him. “What is it, Sweetie?” Wash smiled at the sight of his wife, they never spent enough time together at the moment. They had passed a real corner in that Niska problem, but he still worried. Wash always worried about his wife. “Alliance. Three ships.” “What?” Mal suddenly looked startled. “Get me a visual!” An image appeared on a side screen. Zoë and Mal crowded around it. “Wait just a moment…” Zoë looked closely at the image. “Is that what I think it is….” “That’s right. Those two alliance cruisers are not being nice to the third one.” Wash pushed some buttons and the image enlarged to show green blasts emerging from the two ships and striking through the third. As the ship began to explode, hundreds of escape pods emerged from it. Laser blasts started firing from cannons; destroying the pods. “What is going on here?” Mal turned on Wash. “What ship was that?” “The Ulaang. Positioned near the outer-rim. Oh my God…” Wash froze. “They’re destroying their own fleet to contain the infection….” “So the Alliance agree with the disease theory? How would a disease travel between ships?” Wash looked at Zoë. “I don’t know…But it somehow seems to be doing just that…”

>“That’s right. Those two alliance cruisers are not being nice to the third one.”

VERY good Wash line.

Your charaterisation is good:
>Mal appeared at the door. “Why do we have gorram alarms for EVERYTHING?”
>“Because you never wanted to be surprised, Sir.” Zoë had followed him.

The ship disease thing strikes me as totally implausible, but it's strangely intriguing. Looking forward to more.

>Remember with the disease thing that it is simply rumours,

No, no, I do get that - and I really am fascinated with where you are going.

Hmmm, this idea of ships being infected doesn't sound very plausible. I'm thinking there must be a more mundane reason for what is happening, something knocking out the electronics or such like an electro magnetic pulse. As for the Alliance turning on their own in the panic to control what is happening, that I could see. Of course, it puts Serenity in even more danger as they certainly won't stop to think before trying the same tactic on our BDHs. Ali D

Oh...this doesn't bode well. Cuz why do I get the feeling that some numbnut will draw the conclusion that since Serenity visited all the affected areas in the recent past, they are the reason for this mystery mechanical ailment?

Still...brilliant stuff, Readout:D

It Is Coming part 6
A much longer one this time, where we see the crew run into many problems, and River's state of mind worryingly complient to Mal's wishes.

It Is Coming Part 5
Only a short part this time, I didn't have time to make it longer. The next part will be longer I promise.

It Is Coming Part 4
The next part in It Is Coming.
I know I was a little harsh on Jayne in this one, but I feel he deserves it after the events on Ariel. Also, appologies if I don't mean the Cortex in Inara's shuttle.

It Is Coming part 3
The next part in the It Is Coming series. A Falnax is a ship that was made for the war but was too expensive to manufacture more then a few, so they never entered active service, although they are rare, they are manouverable, reliable and very well armed.

It Is Coming Part 2
The next part in my fanfic. This part is just helping to build up the back story, no real action yet, sorry, but that's coming in the next part.

I forgot to mention at the start of the prologue that this is just immediately after “War Stories.”

It Is Coming Prologue
My first firefly fan fic, thought I would release it bit by bit so I can make the next bit better. The title is only a working title.
