We all know that Joss Whedon has no problem writing people out of a show. Heroes has shown 9 episodes and so far all of the main characters are still standing, but a strange thought occured to me.

If Joss were running "Heroes" which of the main characters would he have bumped off already or atleast very soon?

I have to say, as long as it isn't Hiro, Micah, or Nikki, I wouldn't care, infact I think Joss would be smart enough to kill off that Peter kid, what a waste, but most likely Hiros friend Anso would be the one.

What do you all think??

We have this whole "Save The Cheerleader, Save The World" business. And to continue the series, most people would assume (remember, assume makes an ass out of you and me

) that she does in fact get saved. But we all know how Joss loves his apocalypses (is that a word?). So I think Joss would go ahead and off her, cueing the fire and brimstone (or big explosion, as it were).

I agree. I think Hiro's friend could bet bumped off withougt it effecting the story. As for Peter, personally I think he is the key to the whole thing (other than the cheerleader of course)I think there is something more then just Peter's ability to mimic everyone's powers, but that could just be me being hopefull.

1) You're in love with one of the characters, hate another with the passion of a thousand firey suns, and have been reduced to a blubbering mess of tears during a scene... and you're halfway through the pilot episode

2) Someone in the main credits has been killed off... and you're halfway through the pilot episode

3) The main character has lost everything that gave his/her life meaning... and you're halfway through the pilot episode

4) For some unfathomable reason, you find yourself loving the bad guys

5) Sexual contact of any kind seems to lead to immediate disaster

I agree with Peter being the key: he's gonna be the one that brings the Heroes together. However, once the group does form, I could see either him or Nathan getting killed. Not both though.

Remember, Joss doesn't just whack his characters for no good reason --he's all about the drama tag. Imagine the fallout of either Pete or Nate losing their brother, and knowing that he could've saved him.

It could push Pete to become evil (going after Hiro to steal his powers and go back to save Nate), or to Nate giving up on politics and becoming a full-time superhero. . .

I think if Joss was running the show, Calire's dad would be a lot more insidious and be the real villain instead of being the deep shade of grey character that he is. And Mohinder's father would be an outright dick and maybe have abandoned Mohinder as a child instead of him trying to protect his son from going down the same road he did. Any father figures would be straight up villains, since in Joss shows, biological fathers are more villainous than all the demons of hell combined.

Claire probably would be more center stage than anyone else (I know it sounds weird to read this, but this is an ensemble show. If Joss were in charge, it would be CLAIRE THE INDESTRUCTABLE CHEERLEADER), and Peter would be some brooding guy in a trenchcoat. And Hiro probably wouldn't be in the show to begin with (or at least be killed halfway through the show), and the waitress at the Burnt Toast diner would be a bigger character and be the Kaylee of the show.

That, and all the gals would be fluently trained in martial arts. Claire may have rapid healing powers, but no strength. And Nikki/Jessica has strength, but Jessica's is more of a brute force than a marital arts type of fighting.

Not necessarily. Even though a lot of the focus was on Mal, Firefly was still more of an ensemble show. Despite the fact that Joss likes strong female lead characters, I think that he is capable of writing a balanced ensemble.

As for Nikki's effect on Pete, I'd speculate that Pete would start to serve as the vessel for whichever persona is being repressed.

If Jessica takes over Nikki's body, Nikki can influence Pete. If Nikki regains control, Jessica gets to haunt Pete.

I liked the peter kid. I thought he was kind of a whinny bastard initially, but then I warmed up to him.

The story would definitely center more on Claire, who along with spontaneous regeneration would also inherent some ancient legacy which would endow her with Jedi skills and a passion for reckless relationships. At some point Claire would be killed, but then brought back to life only to be killed the next season, and brought back to life. There might be a new hero whose special power is being a quirky Jewish Lesbian witch.

Also Peter would become the leader of a band of rogue Heroes, who would rob a train of its cargo only to return it later after discovering that a mining town needed it to treat symptoms of some weird mining town disease, thereby proving that he is a crook with a heart. And he would have a gun. And wear suspenders.

I still don't agree. I mean, you can't exactly call Angel a female dominated show. And even if Firefly didn't stay an ensemble in the second season, the show revolved too much around Mal for it to become "River's show". Joss can write a series without it being all about strong female characters. Joss is too talented a writer to rely on one kind of plot hook.

I'm quite surprised at some of the responses in this thread, as though every show Joss writes is a photocopy of his previous work.

My personal pet theory is that the cop with psychic abilities will try to find out if Peter is Sylar but as Peter picks up his powers, he becomes psychic and therefore hears the cop listening to him listening to the cop listening to Peter listening to the cop... cue huge audio wail.

I can't stand Nikki, really hope she is the one to get axed if they decide to kill a main character. I would like it to be as gruesome as possible. Blacking out then going on a killing spree is a great insanity defense but does not make a very compelling character.

wow, there's a lot of hate for peter and claire in here.

If Joss were running heroes.....everything would be a bit more witty, there would be a lot more red herrings in the plot (Am I the only one that thinks it's fairly predictable?), and the villians would be hated just a little more.

As fate would have it, they are going to off someone on the show. We have confirmation. I personally doubt that it will be Claire or Peter, but who knows, it’s a mystery.

But maybe the Heroes writers are picking up some of Joss’s trademark callous disregard for main character life.
