Soon all that will be left on SyFy are reruns of classic Sci-Fi shows that didn't suck (Star Trek, Firefly) and "Warehouse 13"....which should be canceled.

What a loss....

*there could be tears*

Syfy sucks. If it didn't, it'd bring back Firefly.

I liked the show quite a lot as it tried to break away a little from the traditional SG formula even if it was ripping off new BSG in places.
It took awhile to grow on me but it had turned into a decent show and got into some of the characters.

Anyone know if we get more episodes after Xmas to finish the season off or is that it for the show?

There are 10 more episodes yet to air. But they were completed before the cancellation came through, so don't expect closure.

And the Producer had previously announced that they had a five-year-arc planned out (involving Destiny's original mission and the Lucian Alliance's attack on Earth).

For those keeping track, BTW, this is the last space-based sci-fi series Syfy had. (Blood & Chrome doesn't count, since it's apparently just a movie.)

Isn't "Blood and Chrome" initially a two hour pilot, like they did with the original Galactica? I believe Caprica used the same approach. If the pilot does good numbers, they go to a series.

BTW, the Caprica finale (broadcast in Canada, available on DVD soon I believe) did quite a nice job of explaining how the events of Caprica lead to Blood and Chrome.

Here's hoping SGU wraps things up as neatly. SGU got off to a bumpy start, but has been much better of late. Show are not allowed to develop an audience anymore. A lot of classic shows would never have survived today's rules.

Thanks StoryMark.
I had wondered if the other 10 eps had been filmed already and I'll be honest and say I couldn't be bothered to look it up. Thanks for the effort.

From the other comments and the idea of the five year plan I'd say that it pretty certainly won't get wrapped up neatly and will likely finish with a season end cliffhanger that will serve as a series end cliffhanger.
That sucks.

You are correct about Blood And Chrome. Caprica didn't grab me, although I know it had it's fans, but I'm hoping Blood And Chrome will be more in line with BSG but not copying it.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

And I'm stealing your last sentence for another thread. Just so you know.

SGU was trying too hard to be BSG. The second season. Bleh.

It was dark, it was depressing, it was angsty, it was sssslloooooowwwwww.
Then SGU started picking up some steam and getting interesting.. and they decide to cancel it.

It wasn't my favorite show out there, or even on Sy Fy, and definitely not my favorite SG series, but it was growing on me. There were a couple of characters I was actually getting invested in, and some fun psychosocial stuff going on for my more analytical and philosophical moods. Plus: aliens and explosions and space warps!
Still not even up to Atlantis standards. It almost completely failed to make me laugh, which is what I look for from SG.

I loved SG-1 and SGA, so SGU was a bit...different.
It started slow, it was dark (not bad, but 'dark' isn't for everyone: I mean, I'm into Warhammer F/40k and stuff like cyberpunk, so SGU's 'dark' is ok), and 'too serious'.

It was interesting, and, after a while, I liked it...but it didn't feel like 'a stargate' show, esp. without the humour (no Vala, too! ).

It's sad that it died. I hope they manage to wrap it all up, whether within the next 10 episodes, or with a movie/mini-series like Farscape's Peacekeeper Wars.
I just hope that SGU's cancellation doesn't mean the death of the franchise as a whole.

Universe was different. I guess too much for the original fans. I know I didn't like how dark it was. I mean both the characters and the low lighting of the ship. I have been watching it, just not enjoying it as much as the original.

I would like to see another Stargate Team. We followed the adventures of SG-1, now may be the time to watch the adventures of SG-57. Another band of four or five mismatched characters exploring our galaxy. No more gods, just insane situations whose characters different skills come into play to solve the dilemma.

For me the show was to dark (both lighting and story) and not enough humor. Not going to miss it.

Actually, over on another forum, I noted that there's a lot of fallout from the SG-1/Atlantis franchise that could carry a series.

The Wraith Alliance just lost Todd, which means there's a power vacuum. Whoever wins is gonna be at the head of the largest Wraith armada ever assembled, and they know there's a whole uneaten galaxy right next door. The Ori were taken out of the game, but their army of fanatical followers is still scattered around. With the System Lords gone, there's a power vacuum, and the Lucian Alliance is clearly making a bid to fill it. The Tau'ri/Tok'Ra/Jaffa Alliance was falling apart even before the Ori were defeated. I'm sure there are a lot of angry, well-armed Jaffa with no clear enemies who are wondering why they need to keep the Tok'Ra around. The Tok'Ra have accomplished their mission and now have no grand goal uniting them; they'll have to redefine themselves. Meanwhile, Earth is emerging as the fastest-growing interstellar superpower (thanks to the legacy of the Asgard), which is probably why the Lucian Alliance are gunning for us.

Worse than that, unless they band together against the Lucian Alliance (or split into a civil war [with Bra'tac, Teal'c, and Rya'c caught in the middle]), the Jaffa are at peace.

Any of you seen what happens when a warrior culture is forced to give up war? I have, and it's not pretty. (I grew up across the river from a Mohawk Reservation --the Mohawk were once the strong right arm of the Iroquois Confederation. Now they're a bunch of drunk, undereducated bullies; they have a culture that emphasizes combativeness but no proper outlet, and most of the kids get so frustrated that they drop out of school first chance they get.)

re: power vacuum
Yeah. I don't get why some people underestimate the Lucian Alliance. I mean, after the Ori-arc, the Milky Way galaxy is probably in a really bad state. Who's there to pick up? The Lucian Alliance (the Tau'ri are kinda...'disorganized': internal bickering, and most operations limited by 'budget'/red tape) is the only group I can see who weren't really hurt.

IMHO, one of the things I didn't like w/ SGU is that it 'veered off' in another direction while leaving the affairs of the other 2 galaxies mostly unresolved.
The Lucian Alliance getting on board Destiny kinda felt forced, IMHO (not that I minded, much. They were, for me, a welcome mix). Forced in that they seemed to suddenly want to tie-in the events on Destiny w/ what's happening on Earth/the Milky Way.

As for another SG series: honestly, I'd prefer to see the old faces back, from both SG-1 and SGA. Maybe something that utilizes both and deals w/ issues that remain unresolved.
Bring back the adventure and humour (not that SG was all about being funny: there were some very dramatic/serious episodes, after all).

I would love to see a show following Col. Dixon and his SG13 team. They could get the doctor from SGA to join them to attract their fans. It could follow the team as they go deep cover and infiltrate into the Lucian Alliance. Because of the nature of the mission, it would need a larger team, say 6 or so more members. And a ship, maybe a modified cargo vessel.

Hehehe. I'd watch that!
Maybe they can find a way to get Adria back from her battle w/ Morgana...(it'd also be nice if her mom would tag along )
