America loves a winner!
Quote: "Part of it is they are trying to reignite this controversy, right? I mean, they also have out this new Super PAC ad out about basically: Is Ann Romney under attack for being a mother? To me, it's still kind of amazing that they're still milking this thing. You know?" Newsweek and Daily Beast columnist Michelle Goldberg said on MSNBC. "It can't only be me that kind of initially saw Ann Romney as maybe a sympathetic or neutral figure but who is increasingly seeing her as someone who is kind of insufferable because of the way she's milking this thing," Newsweek and Daily Beast columnist Michelle Goldberg said about Ann Romney writing a column about raising her children. Goldberg found Ann Romney's glowing praise of motherhood in a column she wrote for USA Today to be "kind of creepy." During an appearance on MSNBC's weekend program "Up with Chris Hayes," Goldberg said the phrase "the crown of motherhood," which Ann Romney used in her column, reminded her of "authoritarian societies" that give out awards for large families. "In a lot ways, the column was totally anodyne, right? She's, you know, yes, motherhood is beautiful. I found that phrase, 'the crown of motherhood' really kind of creepy. Not just because of it's somewhat -- you know, it's kind of really authoritarian societies that give out like a Cross of Motherhood. They give out awards for big families," Goldberg said on the program's panel. "You know, Stalin did it, Hitler did it," she said http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/05/14/newsweek_columnist_likens_insufferable_ann_romney_to_hitler_stalin.html

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...
Quote:"The other part of it is that it plays into this thing of what we, you know. We have this kind of compact in the United States, where what we deny women in social support, or status or kind of economic security, we make up for in, in sort of insipid condescending praise," Goldberg concluded.

ONE person says something--I can't even figure out what she IS saying, she's all over the place, and that makes the entire "left" responsible for...what exactly? When was Obama called "god" for gawd's sake? I've never, ever seen that;you really are having mental difficulties, aren't you? Or is your need for attention so totally desperate that you need to put up something TOTALLY SENSELESS in order to get it? I don't know what's going on with you, but this thread is reeeeely weird!

Quote:So, Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.

Quote:Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it hasn't felt that way in recent years. So Obama's had a sort of different task. We're seen too often as the bad guys and he has a very different job from Reagan, was kind of "America", and he talked about it. Obama is, "we are above that now, we're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial, we stand for something". I mean, in a way, Obama's standing above the country, above the world, he's some sort of god, he's gonna bring all different sides together...

As has been pointed out to you (and ignored by you) there is a difference between saying mean things about someone - and actually enacting laws that effect millions of women. But then, you're not interested in honest conversation - you have a cross to nail yourself up on.
Quote:I'm in the UK, and bush definitely made you guys look stupid. We respect the US MUCH more with Obama. It certainly matters how your country's president comes across.
Quote:Obama's ability to sound more intelligent when he speaks has definitely, in my opinion, helped with how the world views the US
Quote:Yeah I agree with you. The U.S. relations with Russia and china are better now then when Bush was in office...the U.S. relationship with other world leaders has grown stronger.
Quote:Yes ... whether or not you agree with President Obama's politics he is intelligent, articulate and diplomatic ... skills which are important in a leader. His predecessor was a crass hillbilly who behaved as if America was still the Wild West ... !
Quote:He did, in that his election was seen as a needed change in the US. Then of course all the incredibly hateful and unfounded anti-Obama sentiments took a big step back...
Quote:Speaking as a Canadian I can say that many other countries cheered when Obama was elected, Canada being just one of them. People outside of the United States were simply tired of Bush, many being shocked that he had been given a second term. People outside of the United States often saw Bush as a war monger, and he and his government were suspected of wrong doings, even war crimes. Many people saw the war on terror as being a war for oil. World wide people knew Obama could not fix the economy over night, he could not end the war, or put a stop to racial tensions in the United States, but it was like a burden was lifted when he was elected. Other nations see President Obama as an intelligent man who will listen and not jump in feet first without testing the waters. They see him as a man who has strong family values and who really wants things to improve for the younger generation. They see him as less of a threat than the Bush family. http://www.helium.com/items/1511720-obama-has-changed-the-way-the-world-thinks-of-the-usa lastly:Quote:Many Americans may never have heard of it, but it is well worth checking out. An organisation called the Pew Research Center, which is based in Washington DC, is an American think tank that carries out research, and does surveys, on people's attitudes. Much of this work is carried out in the United States, but one of its major studies is the Pew Global Attitudes Project. This measures a whole number of issues which have an international impact. One of its areas of study is the attitude of people in other countries towards the United States. Its report dated July 23rd, 2009 was headed "Confidence in Obama Lifts U.S. Image Around the World". You cannot get a clearer indication than that. Analysing the statistics, you can notice how far things have changed between the end of the Bush administration and Obama taking over the Presidency. In Europe, particularly, the change is worth examining. In both France and Germany the favourability rating has risen by a full 30%. Even in the UK, where criticism of the US is never as pointed as on the European continent, the rise was 18%. http://www.helium.com/items/1804679-obama-world-view-us other words, Obama speaks more intelligently and less aggressively than Bush did, and his view of America as one country among many has improved the world's view of us. Now that I better understand where the quote came from, I agree with the commentator--except for the "god" thing, I don't know where he got that from. But I'll remember in future when you toss that one out again, for the umpteenth time (it HAS gotten pretty old and boring, you know).

Quote: When was Obama called "god" for gawd's sake? I've never, ever seen that
Quote: And again, ONE person's remark from how far back, and we're all calling Obama "God"?
Quote: Now it makes sense. Again, HE SAID SOME SORT OF GOD, he didn't say "Obama is God", okay? And he said it in the context of Obama wanting to be more global, bring all sides together rather than being "We're America, we're the most important", etc.
Quote: In passing, one person made a remark. Changes nothing. Neither he nor anyone else that I'm aware of ever said "Obama is God" or "He is God". End of story. Saying anyone ever said "Obama is God" is a pure and simple lie.

Quote: Crown of glory Cherish your mothers. The ones who wiped your tears, who were at every ball game or ballet recital. The ones who believed in you, even when nobody else did, even when maybe you didn't believe in yourself. Women wear many hats in their lives. Daughter, sister, student, breadwinner. But no matter where we are or what we're doing, one hat that moms never take off is the crown of motherhood. There is no crown more glorious.
