Oh no...

They're going to ruin Edge of Tomorrow with a cash grabbing sequel?

I'm having flashbacks of the Matrix sequels all over again.

Every thing I've read about the story is that it is way, way better than the first, and it will revolutionize the way sequels are done. Seems folk are ecstatic about it. And Cruise and Emily are both on board already, some directors are vying for the gig.

Although Top Gun: Maverick will join Tom Cruise with Jennifer Connolly for the first time, it's not scheduled for release until June 2020.
But JC is in Alita in February.

Hey. I hope maybe they're revolutionizing sequels and not just blowing smoke up our asses.

The Matrix sequels just poisoned what was just about as close to the perfect movie as you could get in so many different ways though. Edge of Tomorrow is one of those rare gems that are so close to perfection right now.

I don't believe anybody who says it's going to be "way better than the first", and frankly that's not what I'm looking for anyhow. I'll settle for half as entertaining as long as it has something meaningful to add and doesn't in any way ruin the first movie.

I could show you a bunch of folk ecstatic about a new Transformers movie. That doesn't mean nothing to me.

I know a lot of people dislike Tom Cruise, but almost all of the Mission Impossible movies that he's done have been quite successful. I really got a kick out of Edge of Tomorrow, so I think with both him and Emily being involved, I'd be willing to bet the house that it's gonna be Kick-Ass!

One thing that I'm gonna be sad about is Bill Paxton.

Tom Cruise is awesome. The Scientology stuff is pretty weird, but I honestly can't think of anything I've ever seen him act in that I didn't like.

Here's hoping the sequel isn't bad. I'm sure it will be entertaining, but I'm just a little worried since the first one is one of my all time favorite movies and I just hope they take real care to not damage it. Even if it's not as good, I'm alright with it if it accomplishes that feat.

Have you avoided Tropic Thunder and Magnolia?

I liked Tropic Thunder. I had to look up on IMDB that Cruise was even in it though, since I didn't remember him in it and now I have a vague recollection of him talking to somebody in a video conference maybe? If it was a lousy performance on his part, I'm thinking that was part of the joke.

I never saw Magnolia.

I doubt very much there is a single actor or actress I've liked so much that I've seen everything they've ever been in.

That statement is almost a certainty for anybody who has done any acting in the last decade since I could count on my fingers and toes the amount of "new" movies I've seen since 2010.

Halle Berry!? Well, alrighty then! But truthfully with Neo and Morpheus on board, I was there already.

My brother didn't like JW2, but I thought it was well done. Is it going to win
any awards, of course not. But it did what sequels should always do, like Jack says, don't fuck up the original, especially if it was good. John Wick was a well-told story, and JW2 continued and added to it. Granted it's a bunch of stunt coordination scenes, but oh how they upped the ante on the action.

Not only that, they progressed the story and gave us more, just enough so as not to fuck up the original. They used the KISS method...they kept it simple stupid. My guess is that the third installment will be an origin story - you know, how John Wick became the deadliest assassin in the criminal underworld.
But also, how he left it all for the love of his life. The whole dog thing, his car, etc. That is the only way to complete the circle. Anything other than that will doom it to failure and repetitiveness.

That repetitiveness is what my brother said was the main flaw of JW2. I told him he had to see the first movie, besides I'm also an action fan. By the way, my brother loves Knight and Day with Tom Cruise (a great action flick) Me too.

Men In Black: International, with the best cast of the franchise.

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson reunite from Thor:Ragnarok.

Plus Liam Neeson, Rebecca Ferguson, Emma Thompson.

And the Alita trailers are looking better and better. Really, better than anything out in the past few months.

Replicas.
I've been seeing ads for it for quite a while now, and it has looked interesting, although the ads were thin on storyline.
But I didn't realize Alice Eve was in it - they seemed to be hiding that fact.

So now I will need to see it.

I know Keanu has more money than he knows what to do with, but I have continued to watch his work in lesser films. The ads for Replicas gave me the feel that this was another of his less-than-stellar works. But now that the storyline is more revealed, plus the surrounding cast, gives me hope.

The daughter Sophie has a lot of credits in work I've not seen, including Lights Out with the same character name.

The initial ads I saw had me wondering how similar to Criminal it would be. But this might be trying to vie for the Alita territory.

Going to see Aquaman tomorrow. If I'm feeling cheeky, I may slip in to check out Into the Spiderverse. Showtimes align just perfectly, so how can I not ?

Alita looks interesting. No interest in Dark Phoenix. Meh to Live Die Live. Cringe at the Top Gun remake. Hellboy 2 ? Sorry, did I miss the rebooted 1st movie ? Pass. No idea about The Kid. Prob need to see John Wick 1 and 2 before I see 3. Yes to Wonder Woman. Another cringe for Bill and Ted.

Now, the big MUST sees...

GODZILLA: King of the Monsters - multiple times, I hope.
Captain Marvel ( please don't be a Mary Sue , please don't be a Mary Sue … )
Avengers: End Game
Spiderman-Far from home

sensing a theme here...

So, there's apparently a follow up to
Angry Birds Really ?
Also..
Terminator 6 ( untitled ,with Arnold and Linda Hamilton. Looks VEEERY promising
Frozen 2
Jumangi 3
And ZombieLand 2.

I have next to no interest in seeing ANY of those. Good grief.

Umm, I was fished in w/ Rey in SW. TFA. Cute, plucky, street wise... oh, and then she picks up a lit Light Sabre, for the 1st time, and defeats the most powerful Sith in the Universe.

With absolutely no Force training, or LS training, what so ever...

And don't get me started on Nurse Who. FFS.

Check Aquaman as ' seen '.

Decent flick and I really did enjoy some elements... the whole Earth and Water are one message is very nice. I wish more would heed how we mistreat our oceans.

Jason played Jason as Aquaman, which I think was a good way to go w/ this character. Sorry, but the DCU is B team to Marvel, and there's just no way to get around it. But even so, they can carve out their own little niche and stay in their lane, they can survive. At least, for a while.

I'll hold off on a more detailed review. If you liked Avatar and the ' whole new world ' sort of vibe, you'll dig this movie.

I did stay, and to be honest, I had 1 question about it.

Select to view spoiler:

I ducked out when Arthur and Mirra were on the boat, after their scrap w/ Black Manta in Sicily. Last I saw of Manta, he had a chain and cannon balls around his neck and fell off a cliff into the water. At the end of the movie, he's floating on a small plank of wood, Titanic style, all busted up and rescued by some fishermen. How'd he get there ?

Also, I'd think that the conspiracy nerd who is helping Manta back to health wouldn't be so gun-ho if he knew Manta wanted to kill Aquaman, but that's just me.

I already wanted to see Cold Pursuit. I am wondering if the Weather of the past couple weeks adds to the draw for the film, giving some people greater respect for the conditions and lifestyle. Some people seem to have been rudely awakened by reality intruding into their routine.

I do hope it does well. And they seem to be pushing the humor angle. Seems dry, deadpan. Which I like.

It opens this Friday, and next week is Alita. I literally cannot envision anything beyond the cinema horizon of Alita.

Ya know Rappy, I agree with your assessment of Aquaman. Mamoa brought a certain kind of charm to the character that sold me. It wasn't an awesome movie in any sense, but did a decent job of entertaining (Black Panther was
an awesome movie in comparison).

Manta was a decent enough villain and I liked the set up to him and Aquaman
becoming enemies. Overall it was well done (it's not going to set the world
on fire).

By the way, Arthur's dad was played by Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in Episodes 1,2 & 3 of SW. It was nice to see him back. They actually had a star-filled cast. Some I recognized, and others I was surprised to find their
names attached to this film (like Nicole Kidman and Julie Andrews).

* updated *

JUST saw * Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse , and WOW !!! Absolutely LOVED it ! Unreal writing going on w/ this movie ! Too damn funny ! On par w/ Deadpool in terms of a next level. Certainly as enjoyable and probably my favorite movie since Deadpool, hands down.

Alita was good. Very good, but not near this level of fun.

Still haven't ( and won't ) see Captain Mary Sue. Sucks, because, as stated in this thread, I HAD been looking forward to this one, but alas, she's the Mary Suest of ALL Mary Sues.

Godzilla - KOTM is still my top WANT to see.

End Game has dropped some, but still a 1st weekend viewing.

Spiderman : FFH - 1st couple of weeks, I'll get to it.

* I realize it came out in 2018,but hell, I just saw it, so it counts as a ' must see ' for 2019.

Yeah, I was surprised to see him on the cast list, but he and Ackroyd both were. I also considered my recall may be faulty from that long ago.

And, nice try, but I already quoted your cringe to B&T.

It seems a bit weird to me that for 4 months, 14 June to 11 October, is void of films I'm interested in. Must be all cartoons being released then.

I was relieved that Charlie's Angels is a reboot, not a sequel with the same cast. Credit list has at least 3 Bosleys, must be a plot thing.
IMDb iS currently lean on cast names of the new generation, but Naomi Scott is Elena, opposite Kristen Stewart.

Terminator is sounding better, with Cameron at the helm.

My comment on B and T was pure sarcasm. Sorry I failed to indicate.

I look forward to being wrong, but honestly, what has *Bill been doing since his last gig ? I fear it'll be as bad as seeing Jason Mewes revived from his glory days of Jay and Silent Bob. SMH.

* Alec Winter - seems time has been his friend, so there's that. So many actors from the 80's, 90's have really taken a nose dive, in terms of photogenics.

Saw Kristen Johnston from 3rd Rock, and wowza…. she's ballooned like Kirsty Alley.

As for Murray and Ackroyd... I'm a bit curious as to their offscreen situation. I get the impression they're not overly close, but there's some respect ? Murray and Chevey Chase hated each other, and didn't pull punches. I caught a documentary where Dan did the voice over, and it was horrific. I didn't even recognize him at first, the cadence was so strange. I hated it when I first heard the show, and it bothered me so much I scanned the credits to see who it was... it was like a bad impression of someone doing a Dan Akroyd SNL skit... oh well. Hope it does well.

Who was Ackroyds big chum? I thought it was Murray. Unless it was only Candy.

I've seen Alex Winter in some stuff. One of the funniest films I've ever seen was Freaked, with him. It was almost as gut-cramping as UHF.

Dan Ackroyd has sorta gone off the deep end. Not Randy Quaid level, but still, he's into UFO's and Area 51 cover ups. Generally harmless, I suppose, but I think he's parlayed his acting career into some decent money, so what ever... good for him.

IDK who he's chums with as of late. Maybe it is Murray. Would make sense, I suppose. ( ghostbuster, SNL, etc... ) It's just that Murray has gone on to do so many different things, and for the most part, I think of Ackroyd as doing more campy stuff, w/ Belushi, Candy and Chase.

I thought he was a believer for a long time, if not before his fame. I've never heard of him not believing.

I was under the impression they were all Second City, before SNL. I could be mistaken.

Both Belushi brothers as well as Bill and Brian Doyle Murray were, as well as Ackroyd and Candy, but not Chase. Wonder if that had anything to do w/ their animus.

Most of them also were apart of National Lampoon's radio hour, including Chase, before SNL.

Looks like Shazam! is getting some great reviews, and without any SJW crap or lefty shenanigans like that other Marvelous Captain too.

92% right now on Rotten Tomatoes with 77 critic reviews.

I'm still not going to see it in the theater, but this one is on my short want to see list. I loved the TV show Chuck, and except for that short lived reboot of Heroes, I've never gotten the chance to see Zachery Levi in anything else.

Shazam, the original Captain Marvel, certainly will fill a niche that has been left open by the DCU. Good for them.

Isn't RT the one that fakes their numbers now? Why bother quoting them at all?

Because even though they faked their numbers, revamped their entire site in order to keep "trolls" from voicing their opinions before a movie came out, and they made 54,000 user votes disappear overnight after opening weekend, Captain Marvel still only comes up with a 78% critic rating and a not-fresh user rating of 59% currently.

This illustrates two things...

Even with a TON of help, Captain Marvel still doesn't look that great compared to virtually every other MCU movie made, with critics and fans alike.

And when you don't have a bunch of SJW bullshit as the bulk of your marketing for a movie, you can end up with a 92% critic rating before opening weekend based off of a good story and a charismatic lead actor.

It should also be noted that Rotton Tomatoes is virtually an arm of Disney marketing in 2019, and DC is the competition.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Screw Rotten Tomatoes. But I believe context matters here, and I'm getting a good laugh out of it.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
