Actually Jong, AuRaptor and River/kaneman are pretty distinct, and so are Sig, 1kiki, Niki, and Mal4Prez.

The nuances can be subtle because most of the compared posters do have some similar political beliefs, but they also differ in places as well.

AuRaptor claims to be an atheist (though still defensive about there being a war on Christians), I don't recall I've ever heard Jong claim to be atheist.

Neither one likes gay marriage but for different reasons. AuRaptor dislikes it because he sees it as another part of that war on christians freedom of religion free speech thing - though he never really talks about common law marriage. My impression is that Jongstraw doesn't approve because he thinks there's something unethical or disturbing about it.

kaneman/River tends to be more shocking with insults. AUraptor and Jongstraw may sometimes drop a "shithead" or an "asshole", maybe even skank and bitch and others. But I think you're all forgetting just what kaneman/River insults are like. Those insults were like... The work of an artist, or a wizard, but rendered entirely in profanity and horrifying images. Words like "flies" and "uterus" constructed a mental image of depravities being born, then eaten, and squeezed out again on a desolate barren background in an endless surreal loop of what-the-fuckery. There are insults, and then there are insults that can damage your sanity.

Niki writes long posts. Sig and Mal4Prez both write medium-ish length posts with an overview process then progression/speculation, but as an argument goes on they differ in their styles, where Sig tends to hammer at a point and be more serious, and Mal4Prez tends to be more jokey. 1kiki writes short posts that focus on a particular detail.

There are also slight political differences here and there, like I think for example there was a thread where people were discussing rights in the context of a protest that deliberately blocked off streets and obstructed traffic, and they had different opinions, and there was another thread about burqas and Muslim women were they had different opinions, and another thread about Muslim violence in response to cartoons.

Like I said, differences are subtle, but there. None of the groups seem like a sockpuppet army to me, they appear to all be legitimately separate people. However, I do think it's possible that 1kiki and Sig know each other in real life.

I want a piece of that action.

He's probably right, if there's a lot of hype around a candidate even if they haven't declared (and it's likely they're going to declare) they tend to have enough momentum and energy to steamroller other candidates as they rise and fall. Hillary will probably be the democratic candidate, because her democratic opponents and the Republican alternatives right now are crickets.

This is why Mitt Romney was the obvious Republican candidate, but also why it was obvious Obama was going to win again. Comparatively Mitt Romney was an unknown (and mormon) - he had the early momentum to surmount the other republican candidates, but not enough to surmount Obama.

(1) SURVEY OF STRONGLY CONTAMINATED AREAS IN JAPAN
Quote:

We show that 137Cs strongly contaminated the soils in large areas of eastern and northeastern Japan, whereas western Japan was sheltered by mountain ranges. The soils around Fukushima NPP and neighboring prefectures have been extensively contaminated with depositions of more than 100,000 and 10,000 MBq km-2, respectively.

(2) USGS SURVEY: SIGNIFICANT FALLOUT IN USA
Quote:

The study found concentrations (activity) and fallout (deposition) of radioactive iodine and radioactive cesium in significant number of samples. Detectable quantities of Iodine-131, Cesium-137, and Cesium-134 were observed at 21% of the 167 tested locations

Well what better way to test the validity and accuracy of someone's worldview, than by their predictions?

When Auraptor, Whozit, Hero etc. predicted that Obama would be crushed in 2012, and that Romney would win in a landslide, etc., etc., that was a prediction that came out of their worldview - that Obama is a marxist, an AlQaeda sympathiser, an America hater, a race-baiter, etc., and that the country had gone halfway to hell in his first 4 years. The ONLY prediction that can come out of such a worldview is that Obama would never be re-elected. Hence their complete disbelief when he won.

When I hear a poster claiming things like 'Benghazi will be Obama's Watergate', I think to myself this person has been whipped up into a frenzy by her partisan media. She's not living in the real world. So I post the prediction here, and it's stored for posterity, and people can see how the prediction bears out.

My aim was to show a thoroughly terrible track record of conservative predictions, pointing to the fact that modern conservatives have hyper-ideological, partisan media-warped worldviews. And that they don't live in the real world.

Yes Krugman is an economist but no, not a conservative - he's solidly liberal. I find his predictions are generally good when they're purely economics; where he falls down (sometimes) is on his judgment of the politics. In the above quote he made the mistake (like a lot of American commentators) of underestimating European politicians' commitment to make the Euro work, and European countries willingness to suffer the pain of austerity.

Here's his latest prediction:

Krugman predicts that Sweden is going to find it 'very hard' to get out of its deflation trap.

It's not personal. It's just war.

OK. How valid to have a pre-drawn conclusion to cherry pick your evaluations to support. How unbiased, neutral, balanced, and scientific.

KIEV DELAYS NATIONAL ELECTIONS
Citing national security, the transitional government of Kiev has canceled national elections indefinitely. When asked whether this would effect aid and loan guarantees from the West, and IMF loans, western sources and IMF head Christine Lagarde said they did not foresee any difficulty with the Ukrainian government being able to maintain its financial authority over the nation. There are many upcoming agreements to be signed with the EU.

KIEV ANNOUNCES AUSTERITY
Because of the cutoff of natural gas deliveries and the subsequent price hike, the transitional Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatseniuk, has announced that natural gas subsidies would be cut back significantly. The IMF has insisted, as it has done with most of its governmental loans, that subsidies be cut in order to shore up governmental finances. Yatseniuk, himself a banker and favored by the United States to head the transitional government, has full authority to obtain loans and sign international agreements, according to the EU and the USA.

Thank you, at least it's here.

How many of you thought that Saddam had WMD?
Who among you thought that Assad used chemical weapons in Syria?
How many of you were surprised by 9-11?
Did any of you predict the meltdown of 2008?
Who thought that Russia invaded Georgia unprovoked?
