The moment Russia invaded Ukraine, Russia lost. You definitely should be used to that by now.

The Russians, when they speak, sound like James Bond villains and henchmen, but two hours later they are dead. Too bad reality doesn't finish within 2 hours like a movie. Here's Putin's henchman:

Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic and an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, says "waging wars is a pleasure" and has called for the takeover of European nations.

In a brief video shared Monday on Twitter by BBC journalist Francis Scarr, Kadyrov discussed Putin's war in Ukraine. He called the Russian campaign "a war for good" and "a war for the happiness for people," according to the translation shared by Scarr.

Kadyrov has been outspoken in his support of Putin since Russia began its attacks on Ukraine in late February. He regularly posts videos about the conflict, in which he has insulted the Ukrainian people and called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to surrender.

"If it were up to me, I'd take all those European states, which are now worth absolutely nothing and know their value," Kadyrov said.

Kadyrov went on to say that European nations—without naming any specific countries—were saying "indecent things about our president and about the people of Russia."

"I'd gradually take those states, and then America wouldn't have any allies left," he continued. "Basically, the war should last until they left all the sanctions and apologize," the Chechen leader said.

He then added that "waging wars is a pleasure" and "we get pleasure from it."

Kadyrov also quoted a comment Putin made during a 2018 speech. While warning any "aggressor" about a nuclear war, the Russian president said, "We will go to heaven as martyrs, and they will just drop dead."

In another video, shared by Scarr on May 25, Kadyrov is heard saying that he is ready to attack Poland and that the European country "better take back your weapons."

Kadyrov's threat to Poland is a response to the country's efforts in supplying Ukraine with weapons to help defend itself. While Putin has not indicated he would take action against Poland, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski said during a March interview with Al Jazeera that Putin's desire to attack his country is an "absolute certainty."

More recently, Kadyrov gave Ukraine a vague warning during a video message posted Sunday on the Russian social media service VK.

"One of these days, you will see a real special operation," he said in the video.

He also referred to Ukrainians as shaitans, a term in Islamic theology for devils or evil spirits.

"It will be seen how these devils flee not only from these cities but also from Ukraine," he said. "So we are preparing, and we will please the real patriots of Russia."

Newsweek reached out to Russian's Defense Ministry for comment.

Russians' actual soliloquies are more evil than a James Bond movie would use since a movie has to have a modicum of believableness or else it becomes parody. Did Ramzan Kadyrov let that stop him? He did not!

Is this plain enough for you to read? Another senior Russian military commander, Major General Roman Kutuzov, was killed by Ukrainian forces during clashes with Russian troops. Denis Pushilin, the head of a separatist group in Donetsk, wrote on Telegram on June 7 that "today we are bidding farewell" to Kutuzov.

Russian silliness about destroying the world because Russia is losing:

Russian state TV personality Vladimir Solovyov has warned that if NATO keeps supporting Ukraine, there will be a "massive nuclear strike" that will see only "mutants" survive.

Solovyov, who has close ties with Putin and has been called "Putin's voice," was speaking on Russia-1.

Solovyov said that the world is "descending into bloody pages of world history."

He said: "If everything keeps progressing the way it is, only a couple of mutants in Lake Baikal will survive. The rest will be destroyed in a massive nuclear strike."

Lake Baikal is an enormous lake and one of the world's deepest, located in the mountainous Russian region of Siberia, north of the Mongolian border.

"Everything is moving in that direction, regardless of what either side wants," Solovyov added.

"Because if NATO decides they can place whatever they want at our borders, they'll be sending more and more of American weapons to Ukraine, Ukraine will fire and end up hitting one of our nuclear power plants, and here we go."

Solovyov said the "process" then will "quickly become uncontrollable."

"Everyone will get more than they asked for. Bang! And there's nothing left," he warned.

Newsweek reached out to Russia's foreign ministry for comment.

Signym, does "winning" mean destroying real estate? So far all the "winning" has been done inside Ukraine, but the thought of "winning" inside Russia has made Solovyov speculate about Russia nuking the world. See this quote from Solovyov: ". . . Ukraine will fire and end up hitting one of our nuclear power plants, and here we go."

What happens if Ukraine doesn’t stay in Ukraine?

For three months, administration officials refused to meet Ukraine’s urgent requests for fighter aircraft, longer-range artillery and other weapons they considered too potent, too provocative. Last week, they finally approved four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) capable of hitting targets 40 miles away. But approval was conditioned on Ukraine’s promise to use them, as Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “only for defensive purposes” and not “against targets on Russian territory.” Ukraine got only medium-range rounds.

“We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

I don't think Russia will be "weakened to the degree" necessary in order to deter Russia from attacking Ukraine again 5 years in the future unless Russian real estate is destroyed in the same amount as Russia has destroyed Ukrainian real estate. Ukraine Regains Key Foothold on River Bank: British Intel

Ukrainian forces have managed to take back control from Russian invaders a key patch of land, amid fierce fighting along a riverbank, according to British intelligence sources.

The U.K.'s Ministry of Defence, which released an intelligence update on the war early on Wednesday, June 8, said Ukrainian troops had secured a victory by retaking a crucial "foothold" on the Ingulets River.

The river is in the southwestern Kherson region, where bitter fighting has raged after the Ukrainians launched a counter-attack following Russian occupation.

The British report stated: "Ukrainian forces have recently achieved some success by counter-attacking in the southwestern Kherson region, including regaining a foothold on the eastern bank of the Ingulets River."

Former NATO Chief: We ‘Overestimated’ Russia’s Military

Anders Fogh Rasmussen speaks to FP (Foreign Policy) about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, the future of NATO, and more.

FP: What lessons will NATO planners draw from what they’ve seen of Russia’s military?

AFR: I think we have made two miscalculations. We have overestimated the strength of the Russian military. Despite huge investments in military equipment and the reopening of old Soviet bases, we have seen a very weak Russian military. It remains to be seen why this is. I think corruption may be one of the reasons. But the other miscalculation is we have underestimated the brutality and the ambitions of President Putin.

FP: Are you then saying that militarily, there isn’t something that Russia is holding back in this war?

AFR: Of course, they’re holding back on using nuclear weapons. And very often I’m asked the question whether I’m concerned about the nuclear threats from the Russian leadership. Currently, I’m not that concerned because Putin knows very well that if he were to use weapons of mass destruction, tactical nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, biological weapons, there would be a determined NATO military response.

FP: President Emmanuel Macron of France recently made comments saying that the West shouldn’t “humiliate” Putin, which he was then criticized for. But it’s an important debate because if the West is wary of poking Russia and it’s wary of giving Ukraine the highest level of weapons that it has, do you think that’s the right approach on the part of NATO?

AFR: No, I completely disagree. We cannot save Putin from humiliation. The cost of face-saving for Mr. Putin will be much higher than an outright defeat for the Russian troops in Ukraine. That’s why my conclusion is that Ukraine must win this war, because if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, he won’t stop. He will continue into Moldova, Georgia, and eventually also put pressure on the three Baltic states. That’s why the Ukrainians must win, and they have the will to fight. It’s our duty to give them the means to fight.

Ukraine’s former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has described Vladimir Putin as “absolutely rational, cold, cruel, black evil” and claimed he is determined to go down in Russian history alongside Stalin and Peter the Great.

In an exclusive interview, Tymoshenko dismissed the suggestion that the Russian president was “crazy”. “He acts according to his own dark logic,” she said. “He’s driven by this idea of historic mission and wants to create an empire. That’s his hyper-goal. It comes from a deep inner desire and belief.”

Tymoshenko, a leader of the 2004 Orange revolution and twice prime minister, had several one-on-one meetings with Putin. They held negotiations in 2009 after Putin, then prime minister, turned off the gas supply to Ukraine. Tymoshenko stood for president in 2010, 2014 and 2019, finishing second twice and then third.

Close up, Putin was “always cautious” in what he said and always suspicious that he might be being taped, she said. “He is from a KGB school,” she said. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion in February, he made no secret of his belief that there was “no such nation as Ukraine, and no such people as Ukrainians”, she said.

His ambitions went beyond seizing Ukrainian territory and toppling its pro-western, pro-Nato government, Tymoshenko suggested. His geopolitical aim was to take over Belarus, Georgia and Moldova as well, and to control central and eastern Europe including the Baltic states, just as Moscow did in Soviet times, she said.

her claims about mass rape were false = she lied

Perhaps if you were attempting to comprehend the article instead of denying it?

Unlike you, I don't lie.

Signym, in every construction project I have worked on there has been at least one contractor who won't follow the design. Negotiating will not get that contractor to do the job correctly. If that stupid contractor is allowed to continue working at the construction site, the project will be a failure. What does the construction supervisor do with a contractor like that? Fire them.

Some of the crazy & stupid contractors will not go away quietly when told they are fired. They have to be physically kicked off the project because words between them and the construction supervisor do not change their terrible behavior. The supervisor doesn't psychoanalyze contractors to discover why the contractor is failing. Maybe the contractor has a drug problem. Maybe drinking. Maybe the contractor is in the middle of a divorce. Whatever it is, the construction supervisor wants that idiotic contractor to never come back. If the supervisor has to call the police, the contractor is getting thrown in jail or shot dead.

The Russians are those crazy & idiotic contractors who have to forced out of the construction site because talking to them does not change them. The Ukrainians don't want to know what mental problems made the Russians into dangerous assholes. But if the Russians won't leave voluntarily, they will be killed.

That's not the point. You CLAIM to have been a design engineer who worked hard to make "fail safe" systems.
But your thinking is so disorganized, so self-contradictory, full of obvious falsehoods, and failing to connect cause and effect, it's hard to believe that you could marshall your brain long enuf to actually complete even a booby-trappd design.

You wouldn't be much of a writer, either. Same problem: you couldn't possibly construct a plausible story-line, bc you can't construct one with your own posts.

Please try to apply logic to your thinking and weed out the obvious falsehoods and internal contradictions. It'll make you a better poster.

Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that it was his “destiny” to “return and fortify” territories, much like it had been for Peter I, Russia’s first emperor.

Putin made the comments, which provide some insight into how he perceives Russia’s actions in Ukraine, on the 350th anniversary of the birthday of Peter I, also known as Peter the Great.

“Peter the Great returned territories and fortified them. This destiny has also fallen to us,” Putin said.

Putin also noted that Peter I fought the Great Northern War, a battle that ran between 1700 and 1721 for a full 21 years, and “where it may seem that he was fighting against Sweden, and seizing lands . . . He wasn’t seizing anything. He was actually returning” lands that Russia had lost.

Putin added that it was not possible to box in or fence off a country such as Russia, the state Tass news agency reported. Russia, he said, had no intention of boxing itself in either.

Putin and Peter I share mental derangement: During the early years of his rule, there was a revolt of guardsmen that was suppressed mercilessly. Peter the Great beheaded five of the guardsmen himself out of the thousands that were executed for treason. Peter had no favourites when it came to punishment. Even his son and heir was imprisoned and tortured. During his trial, Peter carried out the cruel questioning himself, and his son was sentenced to death, but died in his cell before the sentence could be carried out.

Russia is drafting 134,000. Logic says that Russia is approaching 134,000 dead/wounded in Ukraine, and these new bodies are replacements for dead/wounded soldiers. Here is the news story:

Russia has converted a meatpacking plant in the occupied Ukrainian city of Melitopol into a morgue that is now "completely filled" with the bodies of killed Russian servicemen, according to a report issued Thursday by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Defense Ministry.

The directorate said that Melitopol's Russian "occupation administration" is now urgently trying to source more freezers and industrial refrigerators to store its dead because the meatpacking plant can't fit additional bodies.

Russia's purported efforts to find enough storage for the overwhelming numbers of the dead came as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree Thursday ordering more than 134,000 new conscripts into the army. Russia's Defense Ministry denied that the conscripts had been drafted for the Russia-Ukraine War.

Russia has not needed to release a revised death toll since March 25, when 1,351 Russian soldiers and officers had been killed in Ukraine, because none died since then. https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-ban-military-casualties/31887084.html

Bad soldiers (that's Russians) survive battles only because of dumb luck. Good soldiers (that's Americans) die in battle only when the enemy gets lucky. You can see the proof of that (at least for America, there are no figures for Russia) in American military deaths. The USA fights all over the world, and killed a million or more, but an American soldier is 3 times more likely to die while back in the USA than while they are fighting overseas:

Trends in Active-Duty Military Deaths Since 2006

Between 2006 and 2021, a total of 18,571 active-duty personnel have died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Of those 18,571 deaths, approximately 13,969 service members have died in circumstances unrelated to Overseas Contingency Operations since 2006. The details are here: https://sgp.fas.org/crs/natsec/IF10899.pdf

Russia does not publicize a count of their dead soldiers, probably for the same reason as 27 million Russians died in WWII. The Kremlin need not count dead because deaths are unimportant and dull statistics, not tragedies. There so many excess millions of Russian peasants and none of them are worth the effort by Putin to keep track of when they die.

You should buy the stocks of oil companies instead of buying gasoline. Capitalism is a wondrous thing, but only for Capitalists, not for consumers of gasoline. The story from Britain, where Democrats have zero control: Refineries cash in as gasoline prices soar. Gasoline prices are at an all-time high though the oil price remains well below record levels.

Wednesday saw the fastest rise in petrol prices for seventeen years, and on Thursday the cost of filling a typical family car passed £100 for the first time, piling costs on motorists. That has lead to billions of pounds of extra profit for oil producers, and led the UK government to impose a £5bn windfall tax on North Sea oil producers. “The refiners are printing money at the moment,” says Neil Crosby, senior analyst at the data firm OilX. “More than they have ever witnessed.”

58,220 U.S. military fatal casualties in the Vietnam War. The other side? 3 million. I'd explain that the ratio of deaths on one side to other side shows that one side didn't know what the hell they were doing because their strategy was to pile up dead Vietnamese until the USA got disgusted and quit but you'd be too stupid to understand. Russia had 27 million dead in WWII versus Germany's 7 million dead (where America killed at least half of them) which showed that Russians didn't know what the hell they were doing other than to throw another million dead Russians at Germany. The US Army saved Russia's stupid Army from being annihilated by Germany, a far smaller nation. Signym couldn't understand that Russians were deeply incompetent fighters. How many Americans died? A few hundred thousand, not Russia's 27 million peasants, almost worthless in a fight because they fought with greater stupidity than any other nation in history.

Fortunately for Russia, Ukraine has an even smaller population than Germany. And Ukrainians aren't as smart fighters as Germans. Russia could win, given enough time and enough dead Russians hurled at the Ukrainians. It worked in WWII. That deeply stupid Russian strategy could work again.

Russia's attack on Ukraine has become a war of artillery, and Ukraine is at risk of losing, according to the deputy head of Ukrainian military intelligence.

Vadym Skibitsky told The Guardian in an interview published Friday that Ukraine is now heavily reliant on weapons provided by the West in its counteroffensive against Russia. Russia, meanwhile, currently outranks Ukraine in terms of artillery supplies, according to the official.

"Everything now depends on what [the West] gives us," Skibitsky said. "Ukraine has one artillery piece to 10 to 15 Russian artillery pieces. Our Western partners have given us about 10 percent of what they have."

While there are indications that neither Russia nor Ukraine is currently poised to score a decisive victory in the conflict, Skibitsky's comments indicate that weapons, or a lack thereof, may serve as a tipping point in the ongoing "artillery war." Maps with assessments of territorial control in Ukraine, which are shared daily by the Institute for the Study of War, show that Russia and Ukraine have only been gaining and losing land in small increments in recent weeks.

Skibitsky told The Guardian that Ukraine is using between 5,000 and 6,000 artillery rounds every day. They have nearly run out of their own 152 mm-caliber artillery ammunition and are using NATO-standard 155 mm-caliber shells, he said.

Skibitsky said that even Ukraine's Western arms suppliers are beginning to run low on stock.

"Europe is also delivering lower-caliber shells but as Europe runs out, the amount is getting smaller," he said.

While Ukraine barrels through its ammunition and arms supplies, it is also reportedly seeing heavy daily losses in terms of manpower. An aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the BBC this week that 100 to 200 Ukrainian troops are being killed every day on the war's front line.
