Seems kinda curious that, after doing Putin's bidding, pizmobeach/JJ/CC announced that his work was done here, and left us in peace.
Now that the rubles are flowing back into his account, he has returned to spread more disinformation for his masters.

huh.

Russia on Friday released how many of its forces it says have died so far in the month-long war in Ukraine: 1,300 Russian troops have been killed.

NATO this week estimated that 7,000 to 15,000 Russians have died this month from fighting.

Kyiv on Friday said its accounting puts that number in excess of 16,000.

Russian state news deleted a post earlier this week suggesting troop deaths at roughly 10,000 with officials claiming the article’s publication originated from a cyberattack.

Regardless of the disparity, even the Russian accounting presents a staggering acknowledgement of battlefield carnage for a supposedly contemporary military. The U.S., by contrast, lost 7,000 troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan across two decades of at-times intense, grinding combat.

The USA bombs everything to rubble before strolling in. That was the lesson they learned in Vietnam: don't get involved in ground combat if you can help it. 50,000 dead Ameicans.

The problem with bombing everything to rubble is that you bomb everything to rubble, kill a lot of civilians and destroy a lot of infrastructure. IF you're trying to spare civilians, preserve infrastrcture, not create a hostile population AND a power vacuum, you will be stuck using more troops. And, if the defending forces have dug into cities and villages, you will be stuck with urban combat.

That's warfare, I guess.

Russian general says Russia will focus on Donbas

The latest from Ukraine:

Not long after Mr. Biden arrived in Poland, the Russian military signaled that it might be reducing its war aims. After a month of a grinding war in which Russian forces have been met by unexpectedly fierce Ukrainian resistance and have failed to capture major cities across the country, Maj. Gen. Sergey Rudskoy said Russia would now be focused on defeating Ukrainian forces in the eastern Donbas region, where Russian-backed separatists have been fighting a war since 2014.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/03/25/world/ukraine-russia-war

If they'd done that from the start this whole thing would have been another Crimea: a quick, easy sprint that would have left the world with a fait accompli it could do little about. And it would have solidified Putin's reputation for military genius instead of turning into a long, grinding war that's done nothing but expose the Russian military as far less capable than anyone imagined, including Putin.

What an idiot Putin is.

Ukraine’s Three-to-One Advantage

Jed wanted to discuss anti-armor weapons, particularly the American-made Javelin and the British-made NLAW. The past month of fighting had demonstrated that the balance of lethality had shifted away from armor, and toward anti-armor weapons. Even the most advanced armor systems, such as the Russian T-90 series main battle tank, had proved vulnerable, their charred husks littering Ukrainian roadways.

When I mentioned to Jed that I’d fought in Fallujah in 2004, he said that the tactics the Marine Corps used to take that city would never work today in Ukraine. In Fallujah, our infantry worked in close coordination with our premier tank, the M1A2 Abrams. On several occasions, I watched our tanks take direct hits from rocket-propelled grenades (typically older-generation RPG-7s) without so much as a stutter in their forward progress. Today, a Ukrainian defending Kyiv or any other city, armed with a Javelin or an NLAW, would destroy a similarly capable tank.

Russian doctrine relies on centralized command and control, while mission-style command and control—as the name suggests—relies on the individual initiative of every soldier, from the private to the general, not only to understand the mission but then to use their initiative to adapt to the exigencies of a chaotic and ever-changing battlefield in order to accomplish that mission. Although the Russian military has modernized under Vladimir Putin, it has never embraced the decentralized mission-style command-and-control structure that is the hallmark of NATO militaries, and that the Ukrainians have since adopted.

“The Russians don’t empower their soldiers,” Zagorodnyuk explained. “They tell their soldiers to go from Point A to Point B, and only when they get to Point B will they be told where to go next, and junior soldiers are rarely told the reason they are performing any task. This centralized command and control can work, but only when events go according to plan. When the plan doesn’t hold together, their centralized method collapses. No one can adapt, and you get things like 40-mile-long traffic jams outside Kyiv.”

The individual Russian soldier’s lack of knowledge corresponded with a story Jed told me, one that drove home the consequences of this lack of knowledge on the part of individual Russian soldiers. During a failed night assault on his trench, a group of Russian soldiers got lost in the nearby woods. “Eventually, they started calling out,” he said. “I couldn’t help it; I felt bad. They had no idea where to go.”

When I asked what happened to them, he returned a grim look.

Instead of recounting that part of the story, he described the advantage Ukrainians enjoy in night-vision technology. When I told him I’d heard the Ukrainians didn’t have many sets of night-vision goggles, he said that was true, and that they did need more. “But we’ve got Javelins. Everyone’s talking about the Javelins as an anti-tank weapon, but people forget that the Javelins also have a CLU.”

The CLU, or command launch unit, is a highly capable thermal optic that can operate independent of the missile system. In Iraq and Afghanistan, we would often carry at least one Javelin on missions, not because we expected to encounter any al-Qaeda tanks, but because the CLU was such an effective tool. We’d use it to watch road intersections and make sure no one was laying down IEDs. The Javelin has a range in excess of a mile, and the CLU is effective at that distance and beyond.

The longer we talked, the more the conversation veered away from the tangible, technical variables of Ukraine’s military capacity and toward the psychology of Ukraine’s military. Napoleon, who fought many battles in this part of the world, observed that “the morale is to the physical as three is to one.” I was thinking of this maxim as Jed and I finished our tea.

In Ukraine — at least in this first chapter of the war — Napoleon’s words have held true, proving in many ways decisive. In my earlier conversation with Zagorodnyuk, as he and I went through the many reforms and technologies that had given the Ukrainian military its edge, he was quick to point out the one variable he believed trumped all others. “Our motivation — it is the most important factor, more important than anything. We’re fighting for the lives of our families, for our people, and for our homes. The Russians don’t have any of that, and there’s nowhere they can go to get it.”

Yes yes at which point the Ukrainians will surround them. Now that Russia has let the cat out of the bag this doesn't end until Russia is driven off all Ukrainian land. Putin's invasion has shown them they are a better fighting force than Russia and they are pissed.

Reports say that it was the Azov Battalion that held hostages in the theater and blew it up themselves to blame the Russians.
According to various non-Russian sources, the Russians flew no air missions or fired artillery that night in that area, so it would have been impossible for Ruusians to have destroyed the theater. We need to investigate to find the truth, since "people say" all kinds of things and often lie.

But as usual, you believe what 'sonebody said" without looking carefully at evidence. I'd sure hate to see you in a jury panel!

Do you think anybody would believe your story? They'd have to be stupid. It is just another version of Putin's claim that Ukraine is controlled by Nazis, and the Russians are freeing Ukraine from its oppressors who will go so far as to kill children only to blame those murders on Russia.

Russia has denied bombing the theatre or targeting civilians in Ukraine. The defence ministry accused the Azov Battalion, a far-right Ukrainian fighter group, of blowing up the theatre, according to the Russian news agency RIA. It did not give evidence to back up the claim. Russia had previously accused the group of preventing civilians from leaving the city. But Mariupol has come under intense bombardment since Russian forces encircled the city in early March.

No, they don't have to be stupid, just evil. Like in Syria. Terrorists are terrorists, their political stripe doesn't matter*.

Here is one link that throws doubt on the "Russia did it" narrative.

Surely, there must be eyewitnesses to events. Some people say that Azov did it. Are they lying? Telling the truth? Confused? Don't you want to know?

Or does it even matter to you, since you lie compulsively anyway and don't give a shit about truth?

* That's why TWITCHY was spouting hate speech even tho she claimed to be a liberal/progressive, and if she had done any of what she posted she would be a terrorist and a criminal, not a hero.

Why is there support for Russia on America's far right?

America's far right shares a common enemy with Putin and Russia: the West's liberal values and the cabal of elites they say controls the economy and the media.

With Trump out of office, many of his supporters are now looking to Putin to take on their enemies, said Jared Holt, a fellow at the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab who researches extremism.

"Some of these far-right cliques within the broader pro-Trump movement came to view Trump as an avatar, fighting against the ills of society they perceive," he said. "I think they view Putin, also, as an avatar standing up against similar forces."

Why are Kremlin talking points in Americans' news feeds?

Unfounded claims to gin up support for the war – the US is funding bioweapon labs in Ukraine or crisis actors are faking events in the war – have gained traction on social media throughout the conflict, according to Zignal Labs, a software company that tracks and analyzes trends in online narratives.

New conspiracies pop up daily. They are manufactured for a domestic audience in Russia and pro-Moscow Ukrainians but also push buttons in the US. The latest spreading on social media is an unfounded report from Russian state media outlet Sputnik that Hunter Biden and George Soros are funding biolabs in Ukraine.

Ukraine as extension of culture wars

Fueling support for Putin and his Russian offensive is the perception that he alone can save the world from identity politics and western globalization, extremism experts say.

Putin has long fomented aggression towards the LGBTQ+ community. He has passed stringent laws against "gay propaganda," and recently blasted gender nonconformity as a "pandemic" equal to Covid-19.

"Putin ain't woke," former Trump advisor-turned-far-right podcaster Steve Bannon declared on his show shortly before the Russian invasion. "He's anti-woke."

In Putin, the far right sees a strongman capable of remaking the world order and rejecting liberal values such as gay rights, said Cynthia Miller-Idriss, director of the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab (PERIL) at American University.

"There's the appeal of a 'strong man' or the idea of a strong resistor against the West and all that's gone with that in both of those cases – anti-feminist, anti-LGBTQ, authoritarian hyper-masculine, all of that kind of tough-guy stuff."

Putin doubled down on this rhetoric in a speech Friday, in which he accused the West of trying to "cancel" Russia. The Russian president invoked author J.K. Rowling, who has been criticized for her anti-trans comments.

“Not so long ago, they canceled children’s author Joan Rowling whose books were spread all over the world in the hundreds of millions of copies, because she did not please fans of so-called gender freedoms,” Putin said in a televised speech.

For some, the conflict in Ukraine is about the same stuff of the culture wars in the US and that's dangerous, Foggett says.

“What really concerns me is that the right especially, they are projecting their own social anxieties into the Ukraine-Russia conflict,” she said.

Rather than looking at documents of dubious origins about Azov, Ukraine should run an experiment to solve the controversy between Signym and CaptainCrunch: Ukraine to kill/wound/capture all Russian soldiers. If the killing of Ukraine civilians stops once Russians are stopped, then it was the Russians killing civilians, not Azov. It is not an absolutely perfect experiment, but it is worth trying and has a side benefit, too. Putin would be less likely to invade the Baltic countries, which are part of NATO. Putin seems to have a thing about NATO. If he has the troops, the Baltic countries are next on the list of likely targets for Putin, after Ukraine. If Putin doesn't have troops because Ukraine killed/wounded them, then he will have to make a new bucket list of things to do before he dies.

Off camera woman: Hello, could you tell me your thoughts on the fact that all Russian citizens have had dicks drawn on their forehead? What do you think about this?

Woman with dick on forehead: Oh, well, I don't really know much about the topic. I'm not a urologist, I'm a regular person. I don't know what someone drew on someone else.

Off camera: You don't need to be a urologist to understand you have a dick on your forehead. Just look in the mirror.

Woman with dick on forehead: But it's illegal now to look in mirrors, and as for what people say...you know, people say one thing and the TV says another. Who knows what is true?

Off camera: Why not ask one of your relatives? I'm looking at you and I'm telling you you have a dick on your forehead. Why would I lie?

Woman with dick on her forehead: I don't know. These days there are so many fakes, so much provocation. We can't know where the truth lies.

Dead serious: Russians lied, even to this day, about killing 4 million Ukrainians. There was a massive disinformation campaign by Russia. Despite the misinformation, Ukraine says it did happen, that it was straight forward murder by the millions and now it is time to pay back Russia for what it did. Putin and Russians don't want to hear it.

I am the very model of a Russian Major General
My standing in the battlefield is growing quite untenable
My forces, though equipped and given orders unequivocal
Did not expect the fight to be remotely this reciprocal

I used to have a tank brigade but now I have lost several
My fresh assaults are faltering with battleplans extemporal
I can't recover vehicles but farmers in a tractor can
It's all becoming rather reminiscent of Afghanistan

My ordnance is the best but only half my missiles make it there
I would have thought by now that we would be controllers of the air
But at the rate the snipers work my time here is ephemeral

Old Russian saying: “If you know how to lie, you will never be wrong!”

A Ukrainian living, then dying, in Russia wrote about Russians in general:

When, in the 21st century and in the middle of the night, an army attacks a completely foreign country that presents no danger to it and every soldier understands what he is doing but pretends he doesn’t. When a government official says, “We didn’t attack,” and journalists amplify that message. And every journalist understands that it’s a lie but pretends not to. When millions of people look on and understand that what is being done will be on their conscience and their history, but pretend that it has nothing to do with them. When black is called white and softness—bitterness, and not in a conspiratorial whisper or with winking irony, but seemingly from the heart.

It’s so ridiculous that Russians still believe that you can achieve everything by force. That if you break people hard enough over your knee, you can force them to forget what is happening right in front of them. That if you gag everyone, you can suffocate their thoughts, too. You would think these observations belong in the realm of politics or psychology, but no, it’s culture yet again—it’s not a strategy for working with reality, it’s an expression of an attitude toward the phenomenon of subjectivity as such. That’s what it means when “being determines consciousness.”

Roger Stone, a senior advisor to the US Republican Party, a conservative flag bearer, and a veteran of the three dynasties of Nixon, Reagan and Trump, expressed his views on Ukraine:

"Ukraine is not what they say... Ukraine has placed missile launch pads on its own territory aimed at the Soviet Union, Ukraine does have a biochemical laboratory funded by our taxpayers, who knows what plague they are going to unleash on Russia... The mainstream media won't report it The thing is, Putin is defending himself and not attacking."

Fox News asked Trump what he'd do differently from Biden on Ukraine.

"Well what I would do, is I would, we would, we have tremendous military capability and what we can do without planes, to be honest with you, without 44-year-old jets, what we can do is enormous, and we should be doing it and we should be helping them to survive and they're doing an amazing job."
- Donald J. Trump

This begs the question -- if Trump suffered a stroke, would anyone be able to tell?

Didn’t Trump already explain that he would have withheld financial military aid in exchange for “a favor”? It was a perfect phone call.

How war crimes investigators do their jobs in evidence-rich Ukraine

https://www.csmonitor.com/World/2022/0331/How-war-crimes-investigators
-do-their-jobs-in-evidence-rich-Ukraine

War crimes investigators – mobilized on the ground in Ukraine and at desks and laboratories around the world to gather and process evidence – inspire hope for justice, and possibly deterrence of further crimes as the war drags on.

More than any conflict before, the war in Ukraine is on the record. Around 70% of the country has internet access, which means almost anyone with a smartphone can watch. And prosecutors are.

In the past five weeks nongovernmental organizations, governments, intelligence units, and international investigators have all started documenting alleged war crimes in Ukraine. Each group has a different mandate, and their work isn’t all coordinated. But the number of people investigating, combined with near-limitless open-source information – from videos of Russian strikes to satellite images of troop movements – makes it more likely that specific charges are filed, a rarity in these investigations.

“It’s impossible today to conduct any small-scale, let alone large-scale, military operation or to violate human rights ... without outing yourself and who you are,” says Scott Edwards, senior adviser for crisis response at Amnesty International.

A nationwide crime scene

Russia outed itself when it invaded Ukraine this February. Now, its soldiers, officers, and leaders have become suspects in a nationwide crime scene. Millions of civilians experiencing attacks are witnesses. Everything from missile containers to military communications is evidence.

The detectives are dozens of investigators rushing to preserve that evidence while they still can.

“There’s a lot of work to be done, and it will not be easy to do that work in circumstances where there’s shooting and shelling all over the place,” says Chile Eboe-Osuji, president of the International Criminal Court from 2018 to 2021.

That work starts with documenting the “crime base,” or the actual offense. Through witness testimony and open-source information available online, investigators build a detailed record of the war crime – or, more often in an actual case, a series of crimes.

I don't remember signing up to give a billion to Ukraine when Obama was President. I don't remember signing up to give military aid to Ukraine when Trump was President. I sure as hell don't remember signing up to give over 20 billion to Ukraine now that Joe* is, well... Joe*.

Don't twist it. That wasn't a "favor". That was a very strong suggestion.

But Track-suit Z works for Obama and Biden* and the Clintons and the Bushes and wasn't going to fuck with his bosses.

Had he cooperated, we wouldn't now be on the verge of financial destruction under Joe Biden*'s failed "leadership".

The above lovely admission happened two years into his son Hunter's lucrative gig making $50,000 per month to smoke crack with hookers and be on call to get his Daddy involved if they needed him for anything. The AG that Joe* wanted fired was the AG that was investigating the company that his son was "working" for.

I don't remember signing up to give a billion to Ukraine when Obama was President.

That billion was to keep Russia from overrunning Europe. And the USA has spent much more than that, again, to keep Russia from overrunning Europe. Think of all money that could have been saved by letting Russia own the world. But once Russia owned the world, I am not so sure Russia would tolerate the USA continuing to exist .

The estimate of $634 billion in total costs for nuclear forces over the 2021–2030 period.

From 1940-1996, the United States spent a minimum of $5.5 trillion on its nuclear weapons program.
https://www.nti.org/analysis/articles/costs-us-nuclear-weapons/

I don't know how much was spent from 1997 to 2020 on nukes, but I'm pretty sure it is in the trillions of dollars, and the money was spent to keep Russia from owning the world with its nukes.

Unfortunately, with all that money spent, there never was a direct war between Russia and the USA to permanently knock down the threat of Russia owning the world, but Ukraine is doing that job for the USA and doing it very inexpensively compared to what the USA has spent on nukes. The USA will spend $60 billion in 2022 just to keep it's nukes ready to use, without actually using any of them on Russia, for which all those nukes are targeted.

Trumpian Conservatives Hold an ‘Emergency’ Meeting Over Russia
(They want Ukraine to quickly surrender so that Putin doesn't go to war with the USA)

The invasion of Ukraine has not prompted Trump to alter his fundamentally adoring view of the Russian leader. The most that Trump would concede is that he was “surprised” Putin had invaded. Then Trump reverted to type, trying once more to game the Ukraine crisis (as he did in 2019 during a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that led to his first impeachment) for his own personal benefit by imploring Putin, during an interview this week on Real America’s Voice network, to release information about Hunter Biden’s nefarious activities.

The basic argument, outlined in a manifesto titled “Away From the Abyss” appearing in the new Compact magazine, is that aiding Ukraine is tantamount to hurting Ukraine. In resisting deescalation, the U.S. and its allies, so the thinking goes, run the risk of encouraging hapless Ukrainians to battle to the last man, all in the hopes of pursuing a Western-led regime change policy toward Moscow that might well trigger a global cataclysm.

Joe Kent is a 41-year-old former Green Beret running for Congress as a Republican endorsed by Trump. Addressing the conference via video, Kent explained, “Our political establishment is dead set on driving us into a catastrophic conflict with Russia.” More lethal aid to Kyiv and cyberattacks on Russia are a path to war. “We must be pragmatic,” he said. His pragmatism appears to consist of granting Putin what he covets: “Putin has laid out what he wants in Ukraine — a decent starting point,” and his demands for control over Donetsk and Luhansk are “very reasonable.”

Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) echoed Kent’s views about Ukraine. The real invasion, he suggested, wasn’t taking place in Ukraine but on America’s southern border. He explained that he opposed bills targeting Russia in Congress because “I could not support that at the exact same time we are seeing an invasion take place on our own southern border.” While “life in the Ukraine is sad and tragic,” America should be more concerned about the 100,000 American citizens who died of drug overdoses — “just as dead from an invasion.” Nor was he particularly impressed by Biden’s efforts to send aid to Ukraine, declaring, “I have major concerns about a compromised president of the United States who is sending incredible support to a less-than-forthright president of the Ukraine.”

Oops? 6ix, it is not a checkmate when you dump all the chess pieces and board onto the floor. You're repeating a fake story that was proven false many years ago and got Trump impeached and should have ended with a conviction, according to a Republican Senator who voted to convict: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/05/mitt-romney-impeachment-vote-
speech-transcript-110849

Trump claimed, and never stopped, that Joe Biden strong-armed the Ukrainian government to fire its top prosecutor in order to thwart an investigation into a company tied to his son, Hunter Biden.

But Viktor Shokin was ousted for the opposite reason Trump and his allies claim.

It wasn't because Shokin was investigating a natural gas company tied to Biden's son; it was because Shokin wasn't pursuing corruption among the country's politicians, according to a Ukrainian official and four former American officials who specialized in Ukraine and Europe.

Shokin's inaction prompted international calls for his ouster and ultimately resulted in his removal by Ukraine's parliament.

6ix, you should know the rest of that story: Without pressure from Joe Biden, European diplomats, the International Monetary Fund and other international organizations, Shokin would not have been fired, said Daria Kaleniuk, co-founder and executive director of the Anti Corruption Action Centre in Kiev.

"Civil society organizations in Ukraine were pressing for his resignation," Kaleniuk said, "but no one would have cared if there had not been voices from outside this country calling on him to go."

In a July phone call, Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Biden's actions. That prompted a whistleblower to accuse Trump of asking a foreign government to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, which is now the subject of an impeachment inquiry.

Ukraine accuses Russia of war crimes

“Corpses of executed people still line the Yabluska street in Bucha. Their hands are tied behind their backs with white ‘civilian’ rags, they were shot in the back of their heads. So you can imagine what kind of lawlessness they perpetrated here,” Bucha mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk told Reuters on Saturday.

It's not a false story. We've got Biden* on video bragging about it.

YOU SAID: "That billion was to keep Russia from overrunning Europe."

BIDEN* SAID:

You have no argument here.

If that billion was truly to keep Russia from overrunning Europe, as you said, then Biden* was holding the entire continent of Europe hostage to get what he wanted.

SPOILER ALERT: That's not what that billion was for, and so all Biden* was holding hostage was a Billion U.S. taxpayer dollars for who-the-fuck-knows-what, but this is just another example of you parroting two different lies that don't jibe.

Cognitive dissonance has no place in Chess. I'd destroy you in a Chess match.
