You may have seen the recent, misleading stories about property owned by our executive director, Patrisse Cullors. The news coverage and social media posts contain falsehoods and disinformation generated and hyped up by right-wing zealots at the National Legal and Policy Center. Our attorneys have sent Cease & Desist letters to NLPC to demand they correct the record and stop their destructive crusade.

To set the record straight, as volunteer Executive Director, Patrisse Cullors does not receive a salary or benefits from Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.

She has received a total of $120,000 since the organization's inception in 2013, for duties such as serving as spokesperson and engaging in political education work. Patrisse did not receive any compensation from the organization after 2019.

As a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation cannot and did not commit any organizational resources toward the purchase of personal property by any employee or volunteer. Any insinuation or assertion to the contrary is categorically false.

To be clear, this is an orchestrated campaign by NLPC and is a direct attack on our movement. They feel threatened by our work to end police violence and white supremacy and will do anything to create division and undermine us as an organization and the larger movement.

We want to make sure our supporters are aware of this and correct any lies or misconceptions you may have read.

We will keep you updated and appreciate your continued support.

In love and solidarity,

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation

BLM Threatens Legal Action Against One Of Their Own Activists After Call For Probe Into
Thursday, Apr 15, 2021 - 12:10 PM

Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News,

The National Black Lives Matter organisation is threatening legal action against one of its own activists after he called for an independent investigation into how finances are being spent, following revelations concerning co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors’ property spending binge, and further money raking activities.

As we highlighted yesterday, Hawk Newsome, who heads up a Black Lives Matter group in Greater New York City, made the call for an investigation, telling the New York Post “If you go around calling yourself a socialist, you have to ask how much of her own personal money is going to charitable causes.”

Newsome said “black firms and black accountants” should conduct an audit on BLM Global Network Foundation to “find out where the money is going.”

“It’s really sad because it makes people doubt the validity of the movement and overlook the fact that it’s the people that carry this movement,” Newsome added.

After labelling the developments a “false and dangerous story” being pushed by “right wing forces” and “white supremacists”, it has now emerged that BLM is attempting to silence other black activists who are speaking out.

The Daily Caller sought comments from BLM, and the group claimed that Newsome “is not and has never been a part of the official Black Lives Matter organization, but continues to use BLM’s name even after sending him multiple cease and desist letters. Therefore, any mention of him as a leader is not factual.”

BLM’s communications arm further noted that “Only BLM chapters who adhere to BLM’s principles and code of ethics are permitted to use the BLM name.”

Responding to the comments, Newsome said:

“So the issue has become my affiliation and not the use of funds. Interesting.”

The Daily Caller report also notes that BLM does not own any rights to the name ‘Black Lives Matter’, that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office routinely rejects applications to trade mark the name, and that Newsome registered his own organization, Black Lives Matter Greater New York, as a business entity in December 2016.

“This movement belongs to the people,” Newsome commented, adding “It is for the people and by the people. It is the people that take to the streets and march in the name of BLM. No one has ownership of that. It is the equivalent of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. claiming ownership of the civil rights movement.”

When The Daily Caller presented these facts to the BLM spokesperson, the group began back peddling, noting “We are saying [Newsome] is not affiliated with BLM Global Network Foundation,”

“There may be individuals who include the words ‘Black Lives Matter’ in their organizational names, but they are not affiliated with BLMGNF. Does that make sense?” the spokesperson added.

The “Wealth Effect” and How it Impacts Americans Individually

The Federal Reserve is pursuing monetary policies that are explicitly designed to inflate asset prices. The rationalization is that ballooning asset prices will create the “wealth effect.” This is a concept Janet Yellen, when she was still president of the San Francisco Fed, propagated in a paper. In 2010, Fed Chair Ben Bernanke explained the wealth effect to the American people in a Washington Post editorial. And in early 2020, Fed Chair Jerome Powell pushed the wealth effect all the way to miracle levels.

Today we will see the per-capita progress of that wealth effect – what it means and what it accomplishes – based on the Fed’s wealth distribution data through Q4 2020, and based on Census Bureau estimates for the US population over the years. Here are some key results. At the end of 2020, the per-capita wealth (assets minus debts) of:

• The Top 1% = $11.7 million per person (green);
• The next 9% = $1.6 million per person (blue);
• The 50% to 90% = $263,016 per person (red line at the bottom).
The bottom 50% = $15,027 per person. That amount of wealth is so small it doesn’t show up on this per-capita chart that is on a scale of wealth that accommodates the Top 1%.

Changing the scale to show how the bottom half of America lives. This is an effective way to tear a country apart or in half:

Back in George Washington's time, voters had to own more property than 6ix does before they would be allowed to vote. In a democracy, income inequality should in theory correct itself. The poor majority should vote to tax the rich and divide the proceeds among themselves. But that’s not happening in the United States. In fact, inequality has been rising for decades. Poor voters oppose a policy of higher taxes and income transfers because they wrongly think they’ll be victims of it. Rather than expropriating the wealthy, low-income voters in several swing states helped put a billionaire in the White House who then slashed taxes on the rich.

What you don’t know can hurt you. In many countries — the United States included — most people simply don’t know how high inequality is or where they fall in the distribution. Nor can they say reliably how it’s been changing.

On many different surveys, answering a range of questions, the average respondent guesses right about inequality only slightly more often than chance.

Suppose that those with below average wages will favor income redistribution while those with higher wages or income oppose it. Clearly, a lot of Americans who fall below the true average think they are above it. That implies that many who would benefit from redistribution wrongly think that they would lose.

Hate crimes primarily a white-people problem, but right-wing apologists eager to obscure that

Defenders of institutionalized white supremacy are always quick to play down hate crimes and domestic terrorism, because they reflect an underlying reality they hope to obscure. So it was not a surprise when the usual suspects—police officials and right-wing pundits like Andrew Sullivan—were eager to assure us that the serial killings in Atlanta last month targeting Asian women working at massage parlors really weren’t hate crimes at all.

The ensuing discussion, however, provided ample reminders that the arguments dismissing hate crimes coming from the right are dishonestly blinkered, using simplistic statistics to once again shift the blame to nonwhites and avoid the cold reality that hate crimes are and always have been primarily a problem emanating from the white population. Exhibit A: An error-riddled article in The Federalist this week that attacks both me and the Southern Poverty Law Center, claiming that both of us mislead the public about hate crimes—while doing precisely that itself.

You would be excluded from voting, 6ix: The provision on suffrage in the New Jersey state constitution of 1776 granted the right to vote to "all inhabitants" who were of legal age (21), owned property worth 50 English pounds (not necessarily a freehold), and resided in a county for at least one year.

But the entire point about wealth is misunderstood by Trumptards because they think they are richer than they are. There really is no way to make Trumptards understand that they are poor white trash overinflated with mental images of self-importance. They cannot understand how rich people run over them and squash 'em flat without noticing even a bump.

P.S. You really need to go back and reevaluate my praise for Joker since you seem so fixated on it and post about it all of the time. I don't think any rational mind would come up with your conclusion of my praise for that movie.

Joker is about a mass murderer told from the murderer's viewpoint. Germany made a similar kind of movie called Downfall about mass murderer Hitler, except Hitler was much better behaved than Joker, who personally got blood on himself. The actor in Downfall got a prize for playing Hitler. Joaquin Phoenix got a prize for playing Joker. www.metacritic.com/movie/downfall

I'm sure 6ix didn't learn any lessons about good/evil and how vulnerable self-identified "good people" are to the influence of an evil man such as Hitler, but 6ix can't understood what an evil monster Trump is. 6ix mostly thinks about the money Joker made and how many weeks it was in the theaters:
Quote:

So... Joker triumphantly retires from the Box Office after 22 weeks.

Total Worldwide Box Office: $1,073,624,800

This is 2 more weeks than Avengers: End Game.

It's also 5 more weeks than Captain Mary Sue.

It pulled in more cash outside of the US than Captain Marvel did by $36 Million, and that's extremely impressive given the fact that it had an R rating and wasn't shown at all in China. If CM wasn't marketed as a necessary watch before the final installment of Avengers, it no doubt would have lost Domestically as well.

CM has made a paltry $64 Million on DVD and BluRay after the fact, While Avengers: End Game has pulled in $91 Million.

I expect Joker to beat both of them quite easily in the post Box Office release.

If it can manage to make up $56 Million in DVD/BluRay sales over Captain Marvel, it will have ended up grossing more than CM on a budget of $120 Million less.

Without even counting any marketing budgets for either movie and just going by the alleged production budgets for both of them, Joker has already virtually broken even CM, including the $64 million made so far in CM DVD/BluRay sales and the fact that Joker hasn't yet come out on DVD.

Someone who's clearly been on the Trump Tilt-a-Whirl too long is Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. The poor man is staggering about, wondering why the earth is spinning.

On Monday, in an analysis of a Politico story on Biden's media strategy, he tweeted this about President Biden: "The president is not doing cable news interviews. Tweets from his account are limited and, when they come, unimaginably conventional. The public comments are largely scripted. Biden has opted for fewer sit down interviews with mainstream outlets and reporters." Cornyn said he was worried about whether Biden was "really in charge."

Whoa. What makes him think that? Does Cornyn really miss the last four years of presidential Twitter? Does he not remember the insanity and toxicity that former President Donald Trump unleashed every day on social media?

Does Cornyn really think it's a problem that the current President is being "conventional" -- that is, steady, stable, normal and grounded? Biden has been in office for 79 days, and he hasn't attacked the appearance of anyone's spouse, nor linked a senator's father to the Kennedy assassination. He has not called American soldiers who died for our country "suckers" or "losers." He has not sucked up to dictators or derided our allies.

Kinda makes you dizzy to revisit all that, doesn't it? And through every twist and turn of that barf-inducing Trump Tilt-a-Whirl, Cornyn hung on. He even praised Trump for firing tear gas and pepper balls at peaceful American citizens demonstrating across the street from the White House last June. "The president is sending a strong and correct message," Cornyn said.

Attacking Biden for being stable, attacking baseball, Coke and others for supporting voting rights, opposing Biden's popular agenda, these moves have put the GOP further behind the Democrats than any time in almost a decade. According to the latest Gallup poll, the Democrats' advantage, usually four to six points, has swelled to nine. Only 25% of Americans now consider themselves Republicans.
This is what comes of riding the Trump-a-Whirl too long.

Was Joker murdering his Mother too artistic for you? That was Academy Award Winning acting. I can remember when you were 6ixStringJoker. You made it crystal clear you were Joker. Joker, the movie, was playing out your fantasies of fighting back against a cruel world and finally winning! Just like Trump was winning! Until Trump was losing and Joker was back in Arkham Asylum, which is as nice as Mar-a-Lago Asylum.

What an idiot.

Check my posting dates under the alias. WAYYYYYYY before the movie Joker was even announced.

I changed it because after a firefox update it was warning me that login info on this site wasn't secure, so I made a burner email with the burner alias. I never remembered the password for either account, so when I had to rebuild the PC I lost access to them and just said fuck it and used this one again.

My name is not Jack. It's a Jack from a deck of cards. I just picked Joker because I thought King would be too gauche.

Although 6ixStringKing does roll off the tongue.

You're projecting idiot Vox and MoJones movie reviews onto me again. My praise for that film sounds nothing at all like any of the bullshit you post when you bring it up.

How about you tell me how I couldn't vote for George Washington again so I can kick your tiny brain in... again?

Arthur Fleck really wants to be the center of attention. That’s it.
Arthur goes from a timid, put upon loner into a full blown murderer.
When Arthur says he’s not about politics in the film, he’s lying.
A mentally unstable person becomes an overnight political statement.
Poor little Arthur Fleck, the man who is not respected.
He puts on the clown makeup and goes on a rampage, killing those who don’t see Joker as a superior man full of talent and deserving success.
Trumptards are similar in that they don’t get the money and respect and easy life they feel their superiority deserves.
Joker is their movie: The Trumptards Strike Back.
Trump feeds Trumptards’ fantasies about about being powerful and respected individuals.
That’s directly from Texas Trumptards, not from Joker.

In the Joker, there is no Batman to beat some sense into Arthur Fleck.
The Trumptards dream of an America where no Democrats are beating them up.

Arguing with Zombies: Economics, Politics and the Fight for a Better Future
by Paul Krugman.

In 2020 America came through something close to an existential social and political crisis. That crisis is now understood by large parts of the Democratic Party not as an unforeseeable shock, but as enabled by the forty years of ‘fiscally responsible’ Democratic administrations failing to address inequality and handing the game to the utterly unscrupulous Republicans. With the pandemic still running through American society, and the midterms looming in 2022, the most irresponsible thing to do would be to risk electoral disaster of the sort the Democrats experienced in 2010.

Paul Krugman’s latest collection of essays, Arguing with Zombies, first appeared in January 2020. Not only was it quickly buried by Covid, but he missed out on a thing all too rare for a pundit: the opportunity to declare victory. A year later, in Joe Biden’s Washington, Krugmanism rules. The gigantic scale of the $1.9 trillion Biden rescue plan, and now the proposed $2 trillion infrastructure investment programme, are testament to a rearrangement of the relationship between economic expertise and politics in the Democratic Party, a rearrangement which Krugman anticipated and for which Arguing with Zombies makes a powerful case.

In the 1990s the lines were clearly drawn. The Democrats were a party of fiscal rectitude and trade globalisation. They had the weight of academic economic opinion behind them. Krugman was one of the cheerleaders and enforcers of that dispensation: the job of brilliant economists with a quick pen was to guard the true knowledge against deviations to the left and the right. It isn’t by accident that Jed Bartlet – the fictional president in The West Wing, the TV fantasy that sustained liberal America during the dark Bush years – was a genial economics professor and Nobel laureate. It was a fantasy. The synthesis of brains, wisdom and power embodied in Bartlet didn’t stand up to 21st-century realities. Today, Krugman tells us, ‘everything is political.’ He has come to accept that ‘the technocratic dream – the idea of being a politically neutral analyst helping policymakers govern more effectively – is, for now at least, dead.’

Breaking with the technocratic assumptions of the Clinton era and the early Obama years has been an attritional process. In Krugman’s case it is the end of an arc that spans half a century. He is no longer at the height of his influence, but he still has huge reach through his New York Times column and on Twitter, where he has a staggering 4.6 million followers. For critics on the left it can be infuriating to watch high-powered centrists inching their way towards seemingly obvious political conclusions. But when they do, it is consequential. By tracing Krugman’s itinerary, we can shed some light on how we arrived in our current situation, with three centrists – Biden, Janet Yellen and Jerome Powell – undertaking an experiment in economic policy of historic proportions. . . .

America had, after all, been here before. FDR’s New Deal too had been hemmed in. It had delivered far less than promised, until the floodgates were finally opened by the Second World War. The Great Depression, Krugman wrote, ‘ended largely thanks to a guy named Adolf Hitler. He created a human catastrophe, which also led to a lot of government spending.’ ‘Economics,’ he wrote in another essay, ‘is not a morality play. It’s not a happy story in which virtue is rewarded and vice punished.’

‘If it were announced that we faced a threat from space aliens and needed to build up to defend ourselves,’ Krugman said in 2012, ‘we’d have full employment in a year and a half.’

You might argue that in Covid we have found an enemy of precisely the kind Krugman was imagining. As far as Europe is concerned, an alien space invasion isn’t an implausible model for Covid. It didn’t take a new world war to flip America’s economic policy switch. All it took was an election.

Another Trumptard: Tucker Carlson says protests intimidated Derek Chauvin jury into guilty verdict: ‘Please don’t hurt us’. He then pointed to racial justice protests and argued that they had subverted the criminal justice system. “No politician or media figure has the right to intimidate a jury.” He added, “It’s an attack on civilization.”

Carlson has long cast doubt on the case against Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes before his death. In February, Carlson said, “There was no physical evidence that George Floyd was murdered by a cop. The autopsy showed that George Floyd almost certainly died of a drug overdose, fentanyl.” In fact, two autopsies — one private and one done by Hennepin County — both concluded that Floyd’s death was a homicide.

Economists have largely failed to ask or answer a rather basic theoretical (and empirical) question: what are the purely economic effects of highly-concentrated wealth, held by fewer people, families, and dynasties, in larger and larger fortunes?

There is an answer: How Redistribution Makes America Richer
https://evonomics.com/how-redistribution-makes-america-richer/

The bottom 80% group turns over its wealth in annual spending three or four times as fast as the top 20%. The arithmetic takeaway: at a given level of wealth, more broadly distributed wealth means more spending: the very stuff of economic activity, which is itself the ultimate source of wealth accumulation.

How good are the model’s predictions? It starts with just two numbers in 1989 — the wealth of the top 20% and the bottom 80% — and extrapolates forward using only five easy to understand formulas to predict levels of wealth, spending, and shares of wealth and spending, thirty years later.

Compare the model’s predictions for 2019 to actual results; in each case they’re almost identical.

It’s easy to add counterfactuals to this model: what would have happened if some percentage of top-20% wealth was transferred, redistributed, to the bottom 80% every year over those three decades. The results are pretty eye-popping.

Downward redistribution appears to make everyone quite a lot wealthier, faster – especially (no surprise) the bottom 80%. Economic activity, annual spending, increases even faster.

With 1.5% in downward redistribution, 2019’s total consumption spending — a pretty good index or proxy for GDP — would have been 52% higher. Total wealth would have been 16% higher.

Most of that extra wealth growth would have gone to the bottom 80% (wealth growth of 527% vs actual 295%), while top-20% wealth growth would also have been slightly higher than actual (526% vs 499%). The top-20% share of wealth would have remained unchanged, versus the actual share increase, from 61% to 71%.

The rich keep getting richer as the economy grows. But with adequate redistribution to counter the ever-present trend toward economy-crippling wealth concentration, everybody else prospers as well.

6ix, I see your kind of "thinking" from Texas Trumptards every single day of my life and it doesn't work out for them, yet they never understand why things go wrong for them. It doesn't cross their minds that their upside-down thinking is causing their problems. Upside-down is their way and they ain't changing. It is impossible to stop them from screwing up and when they do, they blame somebody else, not the failed ideas in their own head. Trumptards cannot admit they are fundamentally wrong, no more than Trump could. Too bad for loser Trumptards and loser Trump.

I was too abstract. Let me be very specific: Tucker Carlson has long cast doubt on the case against Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes before his death.

A Trumptard, Tucker Carlson in this case but also every Texas Trumptard I have heard talking about the case, are "thinking" the autopsy is fake. It is not fake. Trumptards have upside-down "thinking" about the autopsy and that kind of "thinking" causes their troubles.
