lol... so are Democratic politicians. I don't see any of them turning down their salaries or pay raises or cushy retirement benefits with the best healthcare taxpayer dollars can buy.

None of this changes the fact that Animal Farm was terrifying.

Why on earth would you label it as a Dark Comedy?

The Freedom-Loving Republicans fought against Slavery, and against the Freedom-Hating Democraps who demanded Slavery be spread.

6ixStringJack, are you afraid of the pigs in Animal Farm? Old Major, the pig in Animal Farm, is Karl Marx. Snowball the pig is Trotsky. Napoleon the pig is Stalin. Squealer the pig is Molotov.

Orwell described the source of the idea of setting the book on a farm: I saw a little boy, perhaps ten years old, driving a huge carthorse along a narrow path, whipping it whenever it tried to turn. It struck me that if only such animals became aware of their strength we should have no power over them, and that men exploit animals in much the same way as the rich exploit the lower classes. 6ixStringJack is lower class. Is he afraid of being beaten like the gullible carthorse in Animal House, then sent to the slaughter house by Napoleon who fooled the other animals into believing that he is getting sent to the hospital? Is that why "Animal Farm was terrifying"?

The Republicans’ $1.5 trillion tax cut will increase the federal debt by $1.9 trillion.

This comes from Table B-3 in the Congressional Budget Office report, page 129, so far in the back that no one reads it. The exact figure is $1.854 trillion from 2018 to 2028. That number was promised by Trump to be zero dollars or even a negative number.
www.cbo.gov/publication/53651

In other words, the tax cut doesn’t pay for itself. It doesn’t even partially pay for itself.

I've been saying this since the early to mid 2000's. Sans the "Russia!" stuff.

Sure. Russia could probably hack it. So could anybody else. And I mean anybody.

You don't have to look half a globe away for bad people. As you often point out in this forum, Second, there are plenty of people with bad intentions right here with us.

One of those "people with bad intentions" is Trump. I would write it in all capital letters, but that makes it harder to read. Imagine me pointing a shotgun at Trump and screaming so loudly that my spit is flying everywhere. Now that you got that picture, I say: Trump, if you don't propose legislation that makes it illegal for states to use machines in Federal elections from a list of hack-able electronic voting machines, I am knee-capping you. Do you prefer left knee or right? Depends on your golf swing. Trump won't sponsor any legislation because that will call into question his victory in 2016. He is a person "with bad intentions".

Yesterday, Trump spent the afternoon watching TV about his lawyer's law office being raided by the FBI. I cannot make Trump do any work when he is at work, even if I had a shotgun. What I really need is the remote control on his TV. No TV for Trump until after work ought to be a law.

Sure. Trump could very well be one of those people with bad intentions with the electronic voting machines. I would NEVER argue that with you.

That being said. I encourage you to make threats like that to anybody in power and see where it gets you.

I've got your back........ waaaaaaaaaaaay back.

But seriously, I agree something should be done about this. We SHOULD go back to a paper system. There is ZERO reason to trust the machine based system because ANYBODY can tamper with those machines and then there is no paper trail to verify the results by. This ABSOLUTELY includes people already installed in our own government.

I'm not saying that Russia couldn't have hacked them, but it would be traceable if they did, and using Occams Razor it seems pretty far fetched when it's much more plausible that if there was any manipulation it was internal.

There is a nice map of Europe that shows most countries never used electronic voting. Some ran pilot programs then discontinued it. Germany went nationwide and then discontinued it. Only France and Estonia continue.

https://ndi.org/e-voting-guide/electronic-voting-and-counting-around-t
he-world

Germany ended electronic voting in 2009, with the German Federal Constitutional Court finding that the inability to have meaningful public scrutiny meant that electronic voting was unconstitutional. Does Trump care about Germany? No, it would call into question his election.

On February 21, 2017 the working group studying Internet voting for Finland launched, with a target date for completion of its work of November 30, 2017. The working group recommended against Internet voting, concluding that the risks outweighed the benefits. Does Trump care about Finland? No, it would call into question his election.

How Has Your State Done on Reducing the Probability of Death?
www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2018/04/how-has-your-state-done-on-redu
cing-the-probability-of-death
/

In West Virginia, the probability of dying in middle age has increased from about 9 percent to 11 percent. In New York it’s decreased from 9 percent to less than 6 percent.

It’s easy to look at this chart and notice that it’s mostly red states that have gone downhill. And that makes you wonder why they keep voting for Republicans. Why not vote for Democrats who take health care more seriously? This seems like absurd behavior until you look at it from a different angle: a lot of people in red states see (and live through) stuff like this and conclude that government doesn’t work. That being the case, why not vote for the party that says it wants to reduce government?

The Worse a State Does on Improving Health, the Better It Is for Trump
www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2018/04/raw-data-the-worse-a-state-does
-on-improving-health-the-better-it-is-for-trump
/

Red state residents continue to vote for low taxes, low services, and Republican government, even though this wreaks havoc with their health. Then they get all bitter and angry because their health is bad and nobody pays attention to their woes, so they vote for Republicans some more. That’s quite the amazing feedback loop.

You REALLY need to stop doing this.

It would also call into question both of Obama's elections, as well as GWB and thousands upon thousands of lower level elections all the way down to local alderman.

I agree 100% that electronic voting needs to end. There's no reason to present it like this though. All you're doing is almost ensuring that anybody who voted for Trump is just going to tune you out.

6ixStringJack, all my Republican employees are nearly, but not completely or else I'd fire them, impervious to data about the job they are doing. They stubbornly make the same mistakes again and again, learning very slowly. The funny part of their psychology is that they believe themselves to be quick learners. Their politics are precisely like their work. For example, I have found only a few Texas Republicans, but I know there must be more out there, who believed that Obama was born in Hawaii. Instead, they still believe that Obama is a Kenyan and that means he was always ineligible to be President. WMD in Iraq? The Republicans believe those weapons were either found or smuggled out of Iraq. Therefore the Iraq War was justified. Is CO2 a greenhouse gas? Not to Republicans. Therefore the only reason why coal plants are shutdown is that the Democrats are faking their climate data because it still snows in winter and if there was climate change it would stop snowing. In the end, Republican reaction time to changing conditions is measured in decades and centuries, but conditions change at the speed of months and years. Republicans are too slow, except for the rich Republicans. The rich know what to do when conditions change. They either adapt or end up poorer and deader.

Where was the Democrat's concern over voting machines during 8 years of Obama?

I'm assuming that it was the same place that their concerns over the Electoral College was during that time.

That's one of the huge problems with you Democrats. You bitch and whine constantly about this stuff when you're losing, but when you're winning you forget completely about it.

1. I agree 100% that voting should not be done on machines.
2. I agree that something should be done to modernize the electoral college. I won't go as far as to say we should have a popular vote, but the current model is outdated and doesn't make any sense anymore.

Where was Obama for 8 years on these two issues?

Nowhere. Because none of you were bitching about either of them after he won.

But every time we have a Republican president you bring these things up when nothing is going to be done about them.

Once again, your reply is completely off topic. That being said, I never believed there were WMDs in Iraq and I have plenty of history here showing that to be the case.

I'm starting to think that you were raped by a Texas Republican when you were little. You've got this strange fixation on Texas Republicans and you seem to completely classify people as either Republican or Good. It's freakin weird man.

Mark Zuckerberg has been apologizing for reckless privacy violations since he was a freshman. What will Congress do? Nothing beyond a few insults because Zuckerberg is rich and fast while Congress is hugely respectful of wealth and very slow.

www.vox.com/2018/4/10/17220290/mark-zuckerberg-apologize-testimony

Back in October 2003, then-college freshman Mark Zuckerberg exploited lax computer security at Harvard’s online dorm directories (they were called “facebooks” after physical books full of little pictures of people’s faces that used to be distributed to students in the pre-digital era) to assemble a vast collection of photos of students’ faces, which were used as raw material for a web project he called Facemash. Facemash was essentially a clone of the then-popular Hot or Not site; it would deliver to you the photos of two students and then the user would say which one was more attractive.

The project, intended as more of an inside joke than a wide-release software product, spread virally through the student community, where it quickly prompted outrage and was taken down. On November 3, 2003, Zuckerberg got notice that he would have to appear before a disciplinary panel (“Ad Board,” short for administrative board in Harvard jargon), and on November 19, he was cleared to continue attending school after apologizing and promising essentially not to do it again.

“Issues about violating people’s privacy don’t seem to be surmountable,” he wrote in an email statement to the student newspaper, the Crimson. “I’m not willing to risk insulting anyone.”

Fifteen years and many billions of dollars later, Zuckerberg is one of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world. And he again finds himself hauled before a disciplinary body, this time the United States Congress, in order to once again apologize for reckless conduct and cavalier violations of privacy. And odds are that, once again, he will not face any concrete consequences beyond a solemn promise to do better.

A Republican Congressman on Trump:

It’s like Forrest Gump won the presidency
www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2018/04/check-out-this-epic-safeway-ran
t
/

Erick Erickson caught up with a friend in Congress recently while he was visiting Washington DC. This guy supports Donald Trump in public, but in private he’s—oh, what’s the right word? Disillusioned? Despondent? Boiling over with rage?

Anyway, he told Erickson he needed to vent about Trump, so they strolled down the aisles of a local Safeway and Erickson turned on his recorder:

He may be an idiot, but he’s still the President and leader of my party and he is capable of doing some things right. But dammit he’s taking us all down with him. We are well and truly f**ked in November….It’s like Forrest Gump won the presidency, but an evil, really f*cking stupid Forrest Gump. He can’t help himself. He’s just a f**king idiot who thinks he’s winning when people are b*tching about him.

….If we get to summer and most of the primaries are over, they just might pull the trigger if the President fires Mueller. The sh*t will hit the fan if that happens and I’d vote to impeach him myself. Most of us would, I think. Hell, all the Democrats would and you only need a majority in the House. If we’re going to lose because of him, we might as well impeach the motherf**ker.

….I say a lot of shit on TV defending him, even over this. But honestly, I wish the motherf*cker would just go away. We’re going to lose the House, lose the Senate, and lose a bunch of states because of him. All his supporters will blame us for what we have or have not done, but he hasn’t led. He wakes up in the morning, sh*ts all over Twitter, sh*ts all over us, sh*ts all over his staff, then hits golf balls. F*ck him. Of course, I can’t say that in public or I’d get run out of town.

I was going to let this pass, but decided not to. 6ixStringJack, you dropped below the income cutoff line. People think they are middle-class, whether they make $22k or $200k. The article for you is Everybody Thinks They Are Middle-class.
www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-america-divided/middle-class/

Then there is 6ixStringJack's revealing self-confession, most definitely not Middle-Class:

Quote:

It's scary what drugs can do to you. And no, I'm not talking about weed...

I've done cocaine 7 times in my life. Managed to say no to it until my 24th birthday, but finally gave in that night for some reason even though it had been around me all the time for 5 or 6 years before then.

I never did anything particularly stupid while on it, but when you're brain is shooting mega doses of serotonin into your system, everything you think sounds like the best idea in the world. I can't even imagine what the more hardcore drugs like Crack and Meth and any of these other drugs made from cooking pharmaceuticals will do to you.

Fortunately for me, I made it a point to never befriend any dealers so it wasn't readily available to me at any time. Even more fortunate that unlike some of my friends who regularly did it, I would crash extremely hard and be useless for a day or two afterward so even though it was pretty much the most amazing feeling in the world I would say no unless I was stupid drunk and didn't have any plans for the weekend, which was pretty rare back in those days.

This guy probably wasn't a genius before he got involved with them, but it might not be a question of intelligence here.

I know that you're as straight edged as they come, JSF, so you couldn't possibly understand.

I'm certainly not advocating anybody use any hard core drugs or condoning this behavior. Just giving a different perspective on the issue.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

6ixStringJack's making of such a confession is a definitive example of Non-Middle-Class behavior.

Okay, SECOND ... speaking of slow learners ... what does your posting this article tell us about YOU?

Well, you hate Republicans with a passion. It's more than a passion, it's an idée fixe with you, an obsession that you return to over and over:

Republicans - especially Texas (boo hiss) Republicans - are unspeakably evil and incapable of learning. And Trump belongs in a class of contempt all his own, but Democrats will save the day!

But apparently, according to the article, Trump is killing the GOP chances this election. So the logical conclusion is that you should LIKE Trump, because he is damaging the GOP, even more than the Democrats could. He might not be your friend, but a force for change .... in some fashion, even a force for good.

Now, why might you not be able to process that?

Unless the Congressman in the story was a journalistic invention, that Congressman was saying some truths about Trump that Signym and other voters for Trump ought to know. I've known Trump-like characters in Texas. I would never do a second business deal with them because they break their promises, but Trump voters don't have much common sense about untrustworthy people. They talk about Trump as a "loose cannon" that will "drain the swamp". But Trump is not what his voters imagine he is.

Lets say Trump killz the GoP. I mean gon!

Without an opponent, wut will happen to the Democratic party?

Will it break into factionz? Will it fade away az voterz pick candidates based only on their pozitionz and qualificationz?

Or will another party fill the vacuum left by the GoP, providing the essential opozition?

Or maybe the Demz will take America to a new level uv sivilization without the so-called conservativ ball & chain holding them back.

The Democrats are always struggling not to become another GOP. If the GOP was gone, the Democrats would invent its replacement. The Conservative impulse inside the Democratic party is the majority and would cause the party to split into two pieces.

If you two think that this is a matter of "conservative" versus "liberal", then I'd say that NEITHER of you has learned a damn thing about politics since you've been posting here!

It's not about "conservative" or "liberal", it's about money, it's all about money and it's always been about money. BOTH parties are essentially corrupt, and the Democratic vision is just as abhorrent as the Republican one, and in some ways a whole lot creepier.

That doesn't take into consideration that I don't have a mortgage, I own my own home and car free and clear, I don't have any interest payments to anybody, yada, yada, yada...

My middle class neighbors have no clue that I'm not middle class based on some arbitrary numbers of income provided by some feds in suits. Neither does the local government who gets their income tax payments early every 6 months and never gets complaints from anybody that I don't maintain my property.

I'm semi retired. I've been that way since I bought my house with cash when I was 32.

Obviously you've never been around kids before. Rich or poor. Rich kids are some of the hardest drug abusers out there. They just tend to be able to get their hands on more expensive designer drugs.

I'm assuming you didn't go to college either? Neither did I, to be fair, but I was at college parties so much that people who attended classes there saw me so much they would ask me what my major was.

Doing drugs is not at all an indicator of your "class status".

Taking my candor about my misguided past and trying to it against me in a personal attack tells us a lot about how classy you are though.

6ix, you missed the point, even though I underlined it. You are the perfect guest for The Jerry Springer Show. Unlike Jerry's guests, the Middle-Class don't make public confessions. It is the opposite of bourgeois. You have publicly excluded yourself from decency. Save the confessions for your therapist if you are middle class. There is slightly more to being Middle-Class than having a certain income.

This isn't a public confession. I don't know who you are anymore than you know who I am.

My confession, as you call it, was insight into something JSF said. He implied that somebody engaged in stupid behavior because they were stupid. I was coming from a different perspective to say that the drugs involved likely had a lot more to do with the behavior than the raw intelligence of the person who carried out the act.

You're just salty that I outed you for being raped by a Texas Republican in your youth.

It's not your fault man. That's a shitty thing to happen to a kid and you didn't have any control over the situation. My heart goes out to you.

Oh, please. You even write like a guest on The Jerry Springer Show, which has been accused of inauthenticity. All the guests are actors; they are all playing a character based on approximations of themselves. If I take what a guest on Springer says as real or what 6ixStringJack says as real, then none of them are Middle-Class. Jerry Springer, the man, is exempted from being lower-class because he is the ringmaster, the lion tamer, the elephant herder of the circus that is his show. He is not confused about who are the animals on his show. I am not confused about 6ixStringJack's low status, either, even if 6ix thinks he is the ringmaster when he really is the pony with a dog or a monkey riding on his back.

From that helicopter crash I’ve got one leg shorter than the other and two ankles with reduced movement. Running is impossible, but I can limp kind of fast. Walking always reminds me that I burn to punch Nixon’s face through the back of his head. Since he is dead, that tasty and delicious animosity has diffused into a cloud around lying Republicans. It’s fun to go to court and fight the Vietnam War again, but this time I win and the Republican loses. I never had business dealings with Trump, but he is the biggest liar in business and the GOP. I want to see his downfall in court. I want to see him bankrupt. And if he will shoot himself in head, that would really make my entire month joyful, now that Nixon’s dead. I probably should be mad at LBJ over Vietnam, but I can’t. His Presidential Library is in Austin where I went to the University of Texas. I understand all too well what kind of monster LBJ was. I’m one, too, and I like him because I’m like him.

Meh... fuck it. Sure Second. I'm lower class. Whatever.

I'm the single person in the country with almost zero responsibility and zero debt to anybody that is able to work 6 days out of the month and pay all their bills.

If that makes me lower class, then I'm proud to be one.

At least I'm not making money off the backs of other people. That leaves my conscience clear so I don't have to spend my days virtue signaling to try to shed myself of all that guilt you're carrying around on your back.

Sounds like being in the 1% is hell man. Your life sucks, even with all that money. You should probably just give it all away.

I hope you realize that you've just outed yourself as a "monster" whose rants are nothing more than personal spew.

Your POV is radically off-kilter. Dood, you need to do something with yourself besides honing your long-burning hatred of a man who died more than 20 years ago! And while you're at it, get rid of all of that self-justification that's required when you're a rich asshole. If you can't see to giving your money away, at least stop being such as ass.

SIX, you're right. It seems being rich really doesn't buy happiness. It certainly doesn't buy a decent set of ethics!

There might be something else going on with SECOND: Possibly he's a chronic drinker. That kind of "stinkin' thinkin'" is especially common in drunks.

Types of Stinking Thinking
Stinking thinking can include negative ideas such as:

* Resenting other people
* Bitterness about the past
* Self-centeredness
* Blaming other people
* Feeling superior to everyone else
* Feeling inferior to everyone else
* Grandiosity
* Ill-will towards strangers
* Focus on the faults of other people
* Viewing the world in black and white
* Being overly pessimistic
* Schadenfreude – getting enjoyment from watching other people fail
* Blowing things out of proportion
* Always attributing negative motives behind the actions of others

Trump has directed his economic advisers to look into renegotiating the US back into TPP.

President Donald Trump, who called the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal a “disaster” and pulled the United States out of the agreement in his first action as president, wants back in.

Trump has directed Larry Kudlow, his new top economic adviser, and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to look into negotiating the US’s reentry into the TPP, Sens. Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Ben Sasse (R-NE) told reporters.

It’s a truly shocking reversal from Trump on one of his signature campaign promises.

Sen. Bob Corker says the GOP tax law may be one of his ‘worst votes’ if new report is correct

-gop-tax-law-may-be-one-of-his-worst-votes-if-new-report-is-correct/?utm_term=.3c6bc887f79e

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) is expressing alarm about new projections of the Republican tax law's effect on the national deficit, saying that if they prove true, he may have made a mistake supporting the bill.

The latest estimates from the Congressional Budget Office are similar to other estimates that were available to Corker both when he voted for the final version of the bill and when he voted against an earlier version because of its effect on the deficit.

“If it ends up costing what has been laid out here, it could well be one of the worst votes I’ve made,” Corker said at a hearing of the Senate Budget Committee on Wednesday, in comments first reported by The Hill's Niv Elis. He added in an interview with The Washington Post: “If this is accurate, obviously it’s a terrible vote.”

Earlier this week, the CBO said the new tax law would cost the United States $1.8 trillion over the next decade, in part because of its significant reduction in the tax rate paid by corporations. When factoring in extra growth created by the tax overhaul, the law is projected to cost at least $1.3 trillion, the analysis showed.

The Joint Committee on Taxation (JTC), Congress’s official scorekeeper, estimated in December that the tax law would cost $1.4 trillion over 10 years, or about $1 trillion when accounting for the effects of higher growth. The nonpartisan agency also said in late November that the tax plan would increase the deficit by $1.4 trillion, or by a little more than $1 trillion when accounting for additional growth. (CBO's new number is slightly higher partly because stronger economic growth since last fall suggests that the federal government is missing more revenue than it would have otherwise received.)

How can you be a fan of TPP? I can understand why Democratic politicians are, because politicians are liars and don't care about the people anymore than Republican politicians do in general, but as a citizen who happens to be a Democrat, how do you support it?

A reversal on this will be devastating to Trump's reelection chances. If that's the reason why you support it though, that is just sad.

Here’s one easy way to identify the distorted priorities of the TPP: the term “climate change” isn’t so much as mentioned once in all 30 chapters.

There’s a lot of talk about the Trans-Pacific Partnership because after years of absurd secrecy, the text of the deal was finally released in November 2015. Now, if Congress approves this deal, the TPP can trump common-sense protections for workers, the environment, public health, food safety and much more. It is a deal that strengthens the power of corporations and weakens our democratic institutions by putting global commerce ahead of the public.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) also weighed in, calling Trump's move "a ridiculous reversal and a slap in the face to the hard-working Americans Trump promised to fight for."

Negotiated under a veil of strictly-enforced secrecy by the Obama administration and so-called trade advisory committees stocked with corporate representatives, the TPP was never really even about establishing conditions for "free trade," as numerous analysts have noted.

Rather, as The Intercept's Zaid Jilani argued, the pact is primarily aimed at "protecting corporate profits" by "crafting regulatory regimes that benefit certain industries."

The deal—which was signed in March by 11 Asia-Pacific nations amid fierce grassroots opposition—is particularly generous to Big Pharma, as it "expands monopoly protections and patents for various pharmaceutical drugs," Jilani observed.

This is a familiar GOP complaint about the Deep State:

After his first appearance in federal court, former U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman told reporters he had been targeted for speaking out against the Internal Revenue Service and was a victim of the “deep state” that allegedly exists within federal agencies.

Stockman — a political maverick once viewed as a champion of right-wing causes — was convicted Thursday of masterminding a wide-ranging fraud scheme that diverted $1.25 million in charitable donations from wealthy conservative philanthropists to cover personal expenses and campaign debts.

The jury found Stockman guilty on 23 counts of mail and wire fraud, conspiracy, making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, money laundering and filing a false tax return.

Stockman’s three defense lawyers argued at trial that their client did not intentionally commit fraud. (It's all a big misunderstanding of our client's intentions.)

The verdict drew a quick response from the Harris County Republican Party, which noted that Stockman represented his constituents “with genuine care and concern.”

A. Who are you talking to?
B. Who said they were a fan of TPP?
C. How can anyone be a fan of Trump?

I'm a huge fan of Trump showing he's a brainless ass in public, especially on issues some Trump supporters hung their vote on. He's a lying sack of sh*t - when will Chump supporters wake up? He's ridden and abused them like a rented mule. It's one of the great political ironies of the last century that the base that keeps him in power is made up of the very people he's abused the most and done the least for. He could give a sh*t about any of them. I think there's a certain cruel, beautiful justice in that.

I certainly won't be if he pushes this through. This is what Obama and Clinton wanted, and a huge reason I was voting against her.

The TPP would have already happened long ago under Clinton. There is no justice for anybody if this goes through now.

Hillary flip-flopped on TPP. In 2015 she declared that: "I appreciate the hard work that President Obama and his team put into this process and recognize the strides they made. But the bar here is very high and, based on what I have seen, I don't believe this agreement has met it."

It’s up to voters to decide how they feel about her changed stance on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, but we rate Clinton’s reversal as a Full Flop.

That was her stance 3 years ago. That's a long time ago.

Are you saying that in 2018 she opposes it? That would be awfully convenient to say now.

I think that this just points to the bigger picture that America is just fucked. It doesn't matter who we vote in, this stuff is going to happen regardless.

Whoever the opposition to the status-quo is can just pretend that they're against it and let the existing politicians be the ones to push it through.

They're all liars. Every single one of them. And if Trump puts this through I'm officially done with him too.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
