I love my current job. It pays the bills, it's given me a body I haven't had since my early 20's, I've saved nearly $5,000 since I started, and they know that I won't work more than 3 days a week at my current pay, so don't even bother asking me. They even give the two 3 day blocks all together, so I work 6 then have 8 off.

I don't blame people like you for being afraid of people like me. Yanno... those who don't "need" to surround themselves with a bunch of new shit they don't need and can't afford. The people who aren't wage slaves and are forced to work whatever menial job they can just to pay off their debtors.

I can live so far under the radar with almost zero income and a literal TON of free time.

If you think I will hire you with your bundle of Trump neurosis, the answer is "Hell, No!" Trump voting employees are trouble (lazy, stupid, dishonest) and Texas employers can discriminate based on political beliefs.

LOL... I wasn't aware this was a job interview.

What makes you think I'd ever even consider working for a dildo like you anyhow?

Apparently you felt yourself too superior to too many employers too often and look where you are now. Oh, it must be Obama's fault. It can't be your fault. What America needs is Trump to make it all better for lazy, stupid, dishonest, racist, alcoholic whites with money, marital, child-raising and anger-control problems.

I'm loving where I'm at now, brother.

How long has it been since you've heard me bitching about things?

Yup. It's been a while.

I already told you that I don't give a shit about that game anymore, son. I don't need to play it, so I'm opting out.

Trump is your problem. Not mine.

And the next time we inevitably have another Democrat running the show, I'll be saying the same exact words to Auraptor and JSF.

There is only 2 ways that my life is going to fall apart at this point. One is if I ever go back to drinking, and the other is if the economy completely unravels and society as a whole starts to crumble.

I'm never drinking again, and if the second thing ever happens we're all up the creek without a paddle, so I'm not going to spend another single second worrying about that.

I dunno man. You keep telling me how great you are because you have so much money.

All I ever hear you do is bitch and moan about everything.

I feel fine.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

That it a launching point for me. For those who have not retired from life, what should they be thinking about Trump? We know he admires Putin. Trump doesn't have the power over America that Putin has over Russia because George Washington didn't give himself the equivalent powers of Stalin. But Trump can follow Putin part of the way down the same path as Russia has gone. Where did Putin take Russia to?

The mystery of Russia’s missing wealth shows how Putin retains his power.

Russia is a nuclear power. But an economic power it is not. Last year, the country’s GDP totaled around $1.6 trillion, less than that of the state of Texas. Nor is its wealth growing: Russia’s GDP in 2017 was smaller than it was in 2013, adjusting for price changes.

And yet there’s no question of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s international influence. Witness his ability to hack bigger, richer countries’ democratic elections, or, as this week’s Helsinki summit highlighted, to cow Donald Trump. The Kremlin’s knack for punching above its weight when it comes to geopolitics is a reminder that wealth sometimes matter less than what you do with it.

Or, more precisely, to whom you give it. Oligarchs are an essential part of Putin’s power apparatus. And as a recent working paper (pdf) by economists Thomas Piketty, Gabriel Zucman, and Filip Novokmet reveals, the wealth that won their fealty came directly from the country’s reserves—and, indeed, from the pockets of the Russian people.
https://wid.world/document/soviets-oligarchs-inequality-property-russi

/

The Russia that should have been

By any reckoning, Russia should be rich. It has a bounty of natural resources —oil and gas, obviously, but also coal, grains, seafood, and vast stores of minerals. Though it exported little under the Soviet regime, that changed rapidly after its collapse in 1991. Between 1993 and 2015, Russia exported around 10% more each year, on average, than it imported. But whether trade surpluses are economically healthy depends on what you do with them. Putin has some ideas. Trump has some seriously strange ideas that match with Putin's ideas on trade surpluses.

I think that your problem is that all you value is money.

How worthless of a human being would you be without all of yours?

That's a question you should probably be asking yourself every single day, if you haven't been already.

I would strongly advise against the temptation to avoid being brutally honest with yourself while making that evaluation.

One thing that I do possess that you don't is a true and honest stock of who I am and what I am capable of, as well as just how low in the depths of pathetic nothingness that I can allow myself sink... and for just how long I could survive there without allowing it to consume me... or even worse.

And it didn't break me. No. It made me much, much stronger. I have real knowledge of my self. My strengths. My weaknesses. What it is I should value in life and what is just silly shit that most people worry about but doesn't actually mean anything in the scheme of things.

I know exactly who's eyes are staring back at me when I look into the mirror now.

Do you?

As far as most people know, I don't have any money. I'm living on a pension, they think. I give the appearance of an old guy that is kind of generous. Somebody dumped a dead pitbull at the cemetery? I will pick it up. I do the stinking jobs, not hire them done. I don't want to end up like Oprah or Bill Gates, living in a multitude of big houses so that they can isolate themselves from all the greedy Americans who want a share. I live in a dinky little house in a middle class neighborhood a very short distance from the poor in Baytown. I already found out what happens when I take on other people's problems, people who create their own problems faster than even Jeff Bezos could solve them. Bezos is smart enough to put his excess money into rockets and fire it into outer space. That is less trouble.

If you don't know, Trump hates Jeff Bezos, mostly because Bezos and the Post can prove Trump is a braying jackass. Mostly, Trump voters are unaware that Trump is incompetent. They believe loudness can override any amount of confusion, ignorance, dishonesty, and lack of organization.

In private, most Republican lawmakers agree that Donald Trump’s press conference with Russian president Vladimir Putin was a horrifying display of contempt for American institutions. But they won’t speak out. “Most Republican members are willing to admit POTUS doesn’t operate in reality, but know they’re doomed in their next primary if they say so publicly,” says Dave Wasserman of Cook Political Report. “Republicans see no upside in speaking out — and fear political suicide if they do,” note Mike Allen and Jonathan Swan for Axios.

Republican Trump critics in Congress insist there’s nothing they can do, lest they enrage the base and jeopardize their seats.

Of course, there’s one other possibility: That these “critics” aren’t as serious as they appear. They might disagree with the president — even think he’s dangerous — but not so much that they would jeopardize tax cuts for the rich and additional conservative judges. If that’s the case, then the dreaded “base” may just be an excuse to avoid hard questions about inaction, and to blame their complicity on something beyond their control.

That is not at all what I was talking about, and I'm pretty sure that you know that.

If that is how you live your life, I actually respect that for it being a series of intelligent decisions. When people at work talk about winning the power ball and what they'd do, they even joke that if I won it I'd still be driving the same POS car, and they're right. I wouldn't even fix up the outside of my house all that much. But the inside would be filled with all kinds of technological marvels, and my garage would be a handyman's wet dream. But from the outside, it would look exactly the same as it ever has.

I don't even remember to lock my doors half the time that I'm home.

But that's not answering any questions of what kind of man you are. I wasn't expecting a real answer because you don't have any clue yourself. If we are to believe you about how much money you have, there isn't a problem in the world you couldn't buy your way out of. You don't have any real concerns in your life. Picking up dead pitbulls, or living in a middle class neighborhood and driving a car that isn't flashy aren't examples of struggles you face. It is just what intelligent people of any income bracket would do as to not draw unwanted attention to themselves. It comes from a place of self preservation. It's not as if you're doing that to free up money to go out and do charitable deeds with it... you said so yourself.

I'm not even attacking you here. You're not any different than most other people would be with a lot of money in terms of character, and maybe even a little smarter than a majority of them.

All I'm saying is that there is a lot more to life than money. It took me a long time to learn that lesson. I think it's one that most people actually never learn because somewhere along the way they enslave themselves to it.

So long as you serve God Money, you will never know what Freedom truly tastes like.

No judgement. No joke. I honestly hope that one day you can.

That goes for anybody here who hasn't as well.

From long experience, I noticed that the Americans who are failing in life think that feeling bad and saying sorry is enough. It is not. That is why they are failing. They need to do more. Fix what they broke. Set right what they did wrong. Make a different decision.

Saying empty words that they can take back and feeling depressed will count for nothing in the real world. That is especially true if you keep on doing what caused the trouble in the first place. You have got to do something different and bigger. There is a three way choice coming: Vote GOP, Don't Vote, Vote Democrat. The first two choices are as worthless as saying "Sorry". I am sure millions of Americans will fuck up this decision and then they will wonder until they die why things never get better for themselves. Because they voted once, it must be the government's fault! No. It is the voters' fault, all the thousands of little mistakes and bad decisions and habitual laziness during the years they waited for the next election, where hope is in their little heart that this election fixes everything instantaneously.

Beginning in 2012, Trump accused Obama of planning to announce hostilities against Iran in order for Obama to win an election. Trump wrote on separate tweets:

“I predict that President Obama will at some point attack Iran in order to save face!”

“Remember what I previously said – Obama will someday attack Iran in order to show how tough he is.”

“Remember that I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly – not skilled!”

Nothing Trump wrote about Obama was true. But Trump loved his Iran Conspiracy Theory so much that he is following the Iran plan for the 2018 election.

The details of Trump’s old tweets and the leaks of Trump’s new and very slimy plans are at https://qz.com/1334536

Republicans Have Mostly Stayed Loyal to Their Party In the Trump Era (But would you expect liars, dumbasses and racists to have an epiphany, a sudden and striking realization about Trump causing them to quit the GOP??)

Whenever the topic of Donald Trump’s continuing popularity among Republicans comes up, somebody asks if maybe it’s just an artifact of the polling. If moderates are abandoning the Republican Party because of Trump, then simple arithmetic says that most of the folks who are left will be big fans. So then: are people abandoning the Republican Party? Luckily, Charles Franklin has just taken a look and here are his results:

The graph going back to 2004 is at
www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2018/07/republicans-have-mostly-stayed-
loyal-to-their-party-in-the-trump-era
/

Roughly speaking, not much has happened. Since 2016, Democratic Party ID has been flat at about 46 percent and Republican Party ID is slightly down from 42 percent to 41 percent. There’s just not a lot going on here.

I’ve chosen to highlight the chart that includes leaners, since a lot of research shows that leaners are as reliably Republican as self-professed partisans. They just don’t like to admit it for some reason. However, Franklin has a full set of charts in this thread, including party ID charts that exclude leaners. They show a little more movement—around 4 percentage points—but that’s still a pretty modest amount, and they’ve probably just migrated from Republican to Lean Republican anyway.

Bottom line: at most, there’s been a slight decline in the number of self-IDed Republicans over the past couple of years. But for practical purposes, it’s about zero. All those Republicans who say they love Donald Trump are the same ones who loved Mitt Romney and John McCain and George Bush. They’re just Republicans.

What good would that do me? Or anybody else for that matter? The last 3 at least were all pieces of shit. I'm fairly confident at this point in my life that it's an unwritten prerequisite for the job.

Sure. Trump's a piece of shit. You happy now?

Did me admitting that to you change your life in any meaningful way?

Hey. Maybe it put a smile on your face. Glad I could start your day off right.

I use to think that way in my 20s. "What's the point?"

You want to know what's ironic? It's a totally selfish point of view, you not giving a sh*t. But in a lot of ways so is the opposite. I can't imagine not trying to do something even if it's only informing myself as much as possible and expressing my opinions about @sswipe Trump in public. If that was all I did I'd still feel a lot better about myself than if I did nothing. So good news: you don't have to give up putting yourself first.

Yes! It is time for a change. It is possible to win the presidency with 23 percent of the popular vote.

The same is true of Senators. Wyoming (with a tiny population) has just as many Senators (both Republicans) as California. Republicans can get a super-majority in the Senate by winning those crap-hole states that have only 25% of the population. It is 154 years past time to change the U.S. constitution and fix this.

If you think Democrats can talk Republicans into changing their vote, you don’t know these Republicans:

“Obama was acting at the behest of the Islamic nation,” [Sheila] began one afternoon when she was getting her nails done with her friend Linda. She was referring to allegations that President Barack Obama is a Muslim, not a Christian — allegations that are false. “He carried a Koran and it was not for literary purposes. If you look at it, the number of Christians is decreasing, the number of Muslims has grown. We allowed them to come in.”

“Obama woke a sleeping nation,” said Linda.

“He woke a sleeping Christian nation,” Sheila corrected.

Linda nodded. It wasn’t just Muslims that posed a threat, she said, but all kinds of immigrants coming into the country.

“Unpapered people,” Sheila said, adding that she had seen them in the county emergency room and they got treated before her. “And then the Americans are not served.”

Love thy neighbor, she said, meant “love thy American neighbor.”

Welcome the stranger, she said, meant the “legal immigrant stranger.”

“The Bible says, ‘If you do this to the least of these, you do it to me,’?” Sheila said, quoting Jesus. “But the least of these are Americans, not the ones crossing the border.” ...

God was using Trump just like he had used the Apostle Paul, she said.

“Paul had murdered Christians and he went on to minister to many, many people,” Sheila said. “I think he’s being molded by God for the role. I think he’s the right man for the right time. It’s about the survival of the Christian nation.”

It’s tempting to just dismiss these ideas — that Christian obligations to charity should only apply to people with the proper passports and papers — as rank justification for bigotry. But it’s worth going a level deeper, to try to understand why someone like Sheila could say things like that.

And the last line, about “the survival of the Christian nation,” is crucial to doing that. Because this sense of existential threat is, according to the best research we have, a vital reason why Trump’s brand of white identity politics has attracted so many followers — and will likely continue to attract more in the future.

Those republicans are no more likely to ever flip than you are likely to become one. Static individuals who will never change and surround themselves only within the walls of their echo chamber are predictable and don't matter.

Where the Dems are going to lose again in the mid terms and once again in 2020 if they don't learn their lesson a 2nd time is by continuing to insult the other side and call them Russians or Nazis or [insert basket of deplorables comment here]. A lot of people on both sides don't vote. Insult them enough and they'll finally get off their ass just to spite you though.

Same thing goes for those of us on the fence. That split went heavily against Clinton even though the polls leading all the way up to election day were telling a much different story.

Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong about this though. I'm a patient man. We'll see if I am or not.

The problem is collective narcissism, which is a thing. Blumpybots don't think for themselves and never have. Like Blumpy, they think of politics as a competition. If they win, they win. Yay, team!

They're oblivious to what they've won, or how it affects them. When it goes to shit, it's the other team's fault. Narcissists don't have the ability to take personal responsibility or admit when they're wrong.

All you have to do is listen to reichwing radio, or a Faux talking head and it's as clear as day.

I agree.

I just don't see how you can say anything different about the other side either.

If you're going to go the path of Wishy and start handing out psychological disorders to everyone, I think Narcissism is probably the most prominant one that afflicts Americans today. Probably ANY humans that live in the "internet culture". That is all that instagram and facebook really is. En masse Narcissism.

I don't think you believe me when I say that I was very much against GWB when he was president. My posts are all here. You can see the past. I'm not a Russian. I'm not a Nazi. I'm not a Blumpy-Bot. I'm not a GOP sycophant.

But can you see how calling somebody all of those names everyday will push someone to lean that way over time?

If I wanted to use a movie to describe what is wrong with most Americans, I'd use Rashomon. From the obituary of the script writer who died July 19th at 100:

“{Some, but not all,} Human beings are unable to be honest with themselves about themselves. They cannot talk about themselves without embellishing. This script portrays such human beings — the kind who cannot survive without lies to make them feel they are better people than they really are . . . You say that you can’t understand this script at all, but that is because the human heart itself is impossible to understand. If you focus on the impossibility of truly understanding human psychology and read the script one more time, I think you will grasp the point of it.” –
https://goo.gl/5sMFWd

A longer description of the movie:

Shortly before filming was to begin on "Rashomon," Akira Kurosawa's three assistant directors came to see him. They were unhappy. They didn't understand the story. "If you read it diligently," he told them, "you should be able to understand it, because it was written with the intention of being comprehensible." They would not leave: "We believe we have read it carefully, and we still don't understand it at all."

Recalling this day in Something Like an Autobiography, Kurosawa explains the movie to them. Two of the assistants are satisfied with his explanation, but the third leaves looking puzzled. What he doesn't understand is that while there is an explanation of the film's four eyewitness accounts of a murder, there is not a solution.

Kurosawa is correct that the screenplay is comprehensible as exactly what it is: Four testimonies that do not match. It is human nature to listen to witnesses and decide who is telling the truth, but the first words of the screenplay, spoken by the woodcutter, are "I just don't understand." His problem is that he has heard the same events described by all three participants in three different ways--and all three claim to be the killer. {All of them want to take credit for killing the bad guy, but somebody is lying. And the movie, just like life in America, never tells you who.}

Totally - it's just a competition and Trump is the coach. Trump rallies are pep rallies, "feel good" even if it's feeling good about hating others. Liberal rallies are more rally, here's what we need to do, and sure, definitely some anger about where we are now.

http://dailycaller.com/2018/07/23/conservative-alexandria-ocasio-corte
z-rally
/

07/23/2018

On Saturday evening, Democratic congressional candidate Cori Bush held a rally in celebration of her birthday. Bush, who is running in the Aug. 7 primary against seven-term incumbent William “Lacy” Clay Jr. in Missouri’s First Congressional District (St. Louis), brought in some star power for the event: Democratic socialist and Bronx native Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Over the years, I have attended my share of political events: tea party protests, a Rick Perry speech on tax cuts, a Ted Cruz rally, and even a speech given by President Donald Trump earlier this year. But nothing prepared me for the stark difference in tone.

Bush’s rally packed a few hundred friends and activists into a bar called the Ready Room in St. Louis, and almost from the moment I walked through the door, I was surrounded by a group of women who were discussing over drinks the reasons they had gotten involved in politics — the two things they all had in common were anger and fear. One even said, “I just couldn’t stand being angry and afraid all the time.”

As the rally kicked off, a series of invited guests took the stage, each sharing the reasons that they supported Bush. Several mentioned the Ferguson protests — which began after police officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown on Aug. 9, 2014 — and recalled being tear-gassed and arrested alongside Bush.

Others invoked the “Israeli occupation of Palestine” while still others told stories of “woke” grandchildren who asked over pancakes whether ICE was going to come and arrest them.

One even praised the strength and dedication of convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur — while Ocasio-Cortez (who was waiting in the wings) and Bush nodded along.

But then Ocasio-Cortez spoke, followed by Bush, and I saw something truly terrifying. I saw just how easy it would be, were I less involved and less certain of our nation’s founding and its history, to fall for the populist lines they were shouting from that stage.

I saw how easy it would be, as a parent, to accept the idea that my children deserve healthcare and education.

I saw how easy it would be, as someone who has struggled to make ends meet, to accept the idea that a “living wage” was a human right.

Above all, I saw how easy it would be to accept the notion that it was the government’s job to make sure that those things were provided.

I watched as both Ocasio-Cortez and Bush deftly chopped America up into demographics, pointed out how those demographics had been victimized under the current system, and then promised to be the voice for those demographics. The movement, Ocasio-Cortez shouted, “knows no zip code. It knows no state. It knows no race. It knows no gender. It knows no documented status.”

Bush, after saying her piece, noted that she had been careful to allow speakers from across all demographics to make it clear that she was not running to represent just one particular group, but all.

I left the rally with a photo — in part to remind myself of that time I crashed a rally headlined by a socialist, but also in part to remind myself that there, but for the grace of God, go I."

Ironical - who'd want those things for themselves or their families??

Democrats and Republican voters want the same government benefits, with a huge exception: Republicans do NOT want to pay for benefits that go to anybody but themselves. That would be why the GOP always talks of "reforming" Social Security, Medicare, Obamacare, etc. The GOP wants to cut the costs and Republican voters go along with it because some benefits go to people they intensely and instinctively dislike.

Pity (or government aid) would be no more if we did not MAKE men poor.

What Americans need, more than anything, are meaningful jobs at living wages. Not a government teat to latch onto, which disempowers people in their own lives.

Now, there are some areas where government rightfully should step in, such as managing the "commons" and building infrastructure, issuing currency and defending the borders, managing trade and breaking monopolies.

Signym, don't you remember the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo space program? It created millions of good paying jobs. And then Nixon killed it. Don't you remember the Interstate Highway Program? Or TVA? The Superconducting Super Collider? I remember when that was idiotically killed by the GOP and then all scientists, engineers and construction workers were fired.

Once you go to the moon, or build the highway, or electrify the Tennessee Valley, the Federal government could keep going farther. It does NOT have to stop. It could invent bigger goals that create more jobs that pay well. But the Federal government did not. I blame the GOP. The GOP denies it. Ha! Liars!

Some of those old federal programs are still limping along. Nasa still exists. So does the TVA. But the old programs have shrunk to a skeleton of what they once were and the program managers fired the excess employees. It did not have to be that way, but it happened because the GOP wanted it.

Now jobs are created by the top 1 percenters and they are motivated by profit for themselves, not jobs for the other 99 percent. That is why America is the way it is today. Don't try to claim it did not happen. Don't try to claim that the GOP wasn't the motivating force. I watched this happen over the last 50 years. I was there.

The government turned control over to the unelected, uncaring 1 percenters who let the government look after the other 99 percent of Americans while the 1 percent look after only themselves.

HA HA!
Well, it's a good thing that I'm not a partisan Republican, and have NO INTEREST in defending the GOP!!

Lookit, SECOND, I worked for a government agency that (I believe) had a legitimate mission to defend public health. Our agency - unlike other government agencies - successfully withstood wave after wave of pushes for "privatization", so I know all about the GOP and it's interests.

Quote:

Are you being ironical here? The top 1% have NO interest in "creating jobs" ... if anything, THEIR main interest is in GETTING RID of jobs.

HAHAHA!!! AS IF THE GOP WAS THE PARTY THAT SHIPPED JOBS OVERSEAS!

SECOND, you have a SERIOUSLY warped view of history, especially American economic history. Democrats have had just as much of a hand in destroying jobs in America as the GOP. Once the "globalization/ financialist" sector bought the Democratic party (somewhere before Bill Clinton) Democrats stopped representing working Americans. That's why they turned to "identity politics": because they have nothing left to peddle.

I am in no way saying that Republicans are better.

The entire government is fucked up by money. Name me ONE CASE since roughly 1990 when a Democratic administration actually did anything good for American jobs. I'll bet you that you can't

I'm going to add, btw, that you constantly mistake my CRITICISM OF YOU as a defense of Republicans in general and Trump in particular. I think I've already made VERY CLEAR what I think our national goals should be, and just as clearly neither the GOP nor Democrats are heading in the direction I think we should be heading, and in fact I think the political establishments of both parties are driving this nation into the ground.

Trump has done three or four ESSENTIAL things towards restoring our economy, such as maintaining sovereignty over our trade decisions. That means that these decisions will be made in UNITED STATES venues, not in Singapore or Zurich. That means that we ... you, me, SIX, WISHY, KIKI, and THUGR ... still have (at least in theory) political control over our nation's direction. Which is far better than having no control at all. But that doesn't mean that I agree with every single decision that he has made, and in some cases I disagree with him intensely.

Signym, every time you write about reality, you write bullshit. You cannot truthfully write “Well, it's a good thing that I'm not a partisan Republican, and have NO INTEREST in defending the GOP!!" You are obviously pretending that Democrats are no better than Republicans. The facts say you lied.

I see an obvious trend where Democratic Presidents create more jobs than Republicans, with the exception of Reagan.

Which President Created the Most Jobs?
12 Presidents' Jobs Creation by Number and Percent
www.thebalance.com/job-creation-by-president-by-number-and-percent-386

Bill Clinton (1993-2001) added 21.5 million jobs, a 19.6 percent increase.

Barack Obama (2009-2017) created 17.267 million jobs by the end of December 2016, a 12.8 percent increase.

Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) added 15.9 million jobs during his eight-year term, a 17.6 percent increase.

Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1969) added 11.9 million jobs to the 57.36 million employed in December 1963. That's a 20.7 percent increase.

Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945) added 10.3 million jobs, a 32.7 percent increase over the 31.5 million workers since 1939.

Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) added 10.5 million jobs, a 13 percent increase.

George H.W. Bush (1989-1993) added 2.6 million jobs.

George W. Bush (2001-2009) created 2.1 million jobs during his eight-year term.

The difference between GOP Presidents and Democrats? It can be measured in millions of jobs.

Here's the problem when you take a statistic and only look at that single stat and not the bigger picture at the time, or in the future for that matter.

Numbers 1 and 2 on that list are artificially inflated.

Clinton's numbers were so great because of opening the floodgates to China, as well as the dot com boom. Obama's numbers were so great because we gained millions of low paying jobs that do not pay livable wages for most Americans. More people than ever today have to work multiple jobs, not only because of how low the pay is, but because the ACA laws dictate that 30 hours + is full time, so most employers will hire more people at shit wages rather than take on full time employees and pay for their health insurance.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I think this tells a more complete story. Shadowstats continues calculating unemployment using the same procedure that was used before 1994, when long-term discouraged workers were redefined out of existence.
Unemployment fell during the tech boom (Clinton). Rose during the tech bust in 2001. Fell during most of GWB's Presidency during the real estate bubble, and rose dramatically during the financial crash of 2008. (So if you were to look at GWB's tenure, he wound up more-or-less where he started ... but you would have missed the "boom" years in-between.) If you are to believe Shadowstats, REAL unemployment did not come down significantly during Obama's reign either, altho the "official" figures are designed to tell a happier story.

I see that Signym and 6ixStringJack are doing what they can to obscure and confuse that the economic performance of the Democratic Party is very different from the GOP. I know why you are doing that. You want to reject both and seek a third way.

As reminder to all American citizens, voters, Russian trolls Signym and 1kiki who don’t want to declare themselves Republicans ---- your political choices are Democrat or Republican. Do you say that is not enough choice? What are your other choices? That is easy to know once you answer this question:

How many elected third party politicians are in America?

You could easily memorize the name of every one of them. (Note the word “elected”. Lost the election? Then don’t bother remembering that politician. Anybody think Jill Stein will ever be elected to anything bigger than Lexington Town Meeting Representative? Remember Ralph Nader for President 2000? Forget him, too, but remember Nader elected George W Bush because of the recount in Florida.)

Here is your list to memorize:

1) Bernie Sanders, Vermont’s Senator
2) Angus King, Maine’s Senator
3) Gregorio Sablan, Delegate to the House of Representatives from Northern Mariana Islands
4) Bill Walker, Alaska Governor, but who is also endorsed by the Democrats
5) a couple of dozen in the state legislatures (don’t bother remembering these guys. They have no more power than Lexington Town Meeting Representative)

And that is it.

Your choices are Democrat or Republican, or a few former D’s and R’s that quit to become “independent” or created their own bad joke party such as Kent Ackley of "Common Sense" Independent.

I didn’t design the system. That is how it works with the rules established by the Founding Fathers. They could have designed a Parliament if they were far-sighted and wise. They had the British example, but their hatred of King George III clouded their judgment. Now we are stuck with either D or R and no third nor fourth way, at least until a new Constitution is written.

The U.S. Constitution is the oldest and creakiest in the world. Norway’s Constitution, a much younger #2, is a Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy. #3 is another Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy. #2 and #3 have been extensively revised, unlike #1.

I have not had a change of heart. Since we Americans are trapped inside a two party system by the Founding Fathers and their creaky old Constitution (it's almost as old as the English system of miles, acres, pounds, gallons. The USA is the only country still using that crappy measurement system. I was an engineer and that is why I want to think metric) I will stay with the Democratic Party.

What I want the Democrats to do is punch in the face the kind of people who regularly vote Republican. The Democratic Party, run by wimps, refuses to do it! I find that disappointing. From Texas I know Trump voters as liars, numbskulls, and racists, except for the rich Republicans voters. I need to add the liars claim they are truthful, the numbskulls claim they have commonsense, and the racists claim they aren't, but in private they are.

Ads from the Georgia gubernatorial nominees perfectly illustrate the difference between the political parties:

Democrat Abrams’s ad is called “Trusted” while Republican Kemp’s is called “Offends,” and they only diverge further from there. Abrams talks about issues, and she talks optimistically about making people’s lives better in a concrete way. Kemp, typically for a 2018 Republican, talks exclusively about diffuse threats to the white Christian cultural order.

Abrams says she has “a boundless belief in Georgia’s future,” and talks about Medicaid expansion, middle-class taxes, and mass transit.

Kemp describes himself as “a politically incorrect conservative” and literally does not mention any policy issues. Instead, he says that he says “Merry Christmas” and “God bless you,” stands for the national anthem, and supports our troops, and that if that offends you, then you shouldn’t vote for him.

Obviously there are literally no people in the United States of America who are offended by people who say “Merry Christmas” in December, but over the past 15 years, the conservative establishment in America has spun up this weird alternate reality in which totally normal, inoffensive behavior is under siege in American life and can only be protected by electing Republican politicians.

The White House responded with a form of information warfare straight out of the Kremlin playbook that it has used time and again :

A scandal erupts over something Trump or another White House official says or does. (In this case, audio of Trump and Cohen discussing how to buy the rights to a woman’s allegation that she had an affair with Trump.)

Media frenzy ensues.

The White House issues an outrageous-but-plausible-if-you-want-it-to-be denial about some detail of the story. (In this case, the White House released a transcript of the call, which claims Trump said “don’t” before “pay with cash.” The “don’t” is not audible on the tape.)

Journalistic rules about reporting both sides of the story mean the media spreads the White House’s fake version of events, whether the “don’t” is audible or not.

The story becomes muddied. Some attention is diverted to whether or not the White House has lied, rather than the scandal itself.

This strategy of denying otherwise clear evidence exploits a flaw in the Western media’s drive for objectivity, and takes the edge off scandals. By Quartz’s count, this was the fourth time in just the last two weeks that the administration has employed such a tactic straight out of the Kremlin playbook.

Did you manage to type that with a straight face?

The article that you linked had a fatal flaw ... it merely looked at the jobs at the beginning of a tenure versus the jobs at the end, without reference to what part of a "business cycle" these endpoints were at. Even that article ... the one that YOU linked ... qualified their data about that. It said, in part

Quote:

A president's record at job creation depends somewhat on the business cycle. For example, those who inherited a recession, like Clinton, Obama, Reagan, Carter and LBJ, did better at job creation. They started with a low base, and so had nowhere to go but up. Those that created recessions, like both Bushes, Nixon, and Eisenhower, did the worst.
I dispute that Presidents can always create recessions that occur within their terms of office. It's the Fed that has the power to blow and pop bubbles, not the White House.

So how about addressing the actual charts and data that I brought to the board? Yanno, the five or so charts in which it is impossible to tell which party was in power at any particular point in time? Because it doesn't matter to me how much the Dems CLAIM to be for the "average working American" having "kitchen table" discussions, RESULTS COUNT. Obviously, Signym, you are going to be stubborn. You are going to want more data before deciding if there really is a difference between a D President and a R President. There will never be enough data to force you to chose one side or the other because you want a third way, one that does not exist because the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution with no place for a third way. They didn't know it immediately, but by 1800 it was obvious they had created the two party system. Not three. Not four. Two.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_parties_in_the_United_States

Just looking only at the economic data, neither an R or D President will ever pop out as one being vastly better than the other because the people who really run America the way they want it to be run, the 1 Percenters, don't change when the White House changes between parties. There is not an R team of 1 Percenters and a D team of 1 Percenters and one team leaves the field and the other team takes control when the White House changes from R to D. Everything will stay the same, economically, if the 1 Percenters stay the same people and if the Federal Government does not go to war against the 1 Percenters. War has happened! The change over from an R President to a D President in 1933 caused a War between the Feds and malefactors of great wealth. But it took a World War to make the biggest difference in America's distribution of wealth.
http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/document/campaign-address/

Let's pick one thing as an example of how D Presidents and R Presidents are different in how they treat the 1 Percenters. R Presidents deny that there is a greenhouse gas effect, that carbon dioxide and methane cause global warming, and that 1 Percenters who are coal mine owners need to sell less coal. D Presidents are the opposite.

Another example: R Presidents always want lower taxes on the wealthy 1 Percenters. A D President would never have signed Trump's tax bill.

Another example: R Presidents always want fewer regulations on Wall Street 1 Percenters but a D President would never weaken the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
www.investopedia.com/terms/d/dodd-frank-financial-regulatory-reform-bi
ll.asp

When a D President was replaced with a R President in 2017, the economy kept chugging along the same old path the 1 Percenters wanted, but the R President has been removing obstacles that slow down the 1 Percenters' wealth accumulation.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker walked away from his meeting with President Donald Trump on Wednesday with a freshly won trade detente, and he may have had flash cards to thank.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Juncker came to the meeting in Washington well-prepared, with “more than a dozen colorful cue cards with simplified explainers,” such as numbers and factoids about complex topics such as automotive trade. Each easy-to-read card had, at most, three figures, a senior European Union official told the Journal.

“We knew this wasn’t an academic seminar. It had to be very simple.”
A senior EU official, on Juncker’s trade strategy

By the end of their three-hour meeting, Juncker and Trump had agreed not to impose any further tariffs and to work toward “zero tariffs.”

Juncker said later that he wanted to persuade Trump that a tit-for-tat trade war was not a smart move and would only end up hurting both sides.

But, “If you want to be stupid,” he told Trump, according to the Journal. “I can be stupid, as well.”

Turns out, Juncker can be pretty smart too. He was apparently following the example of top White House officials, who have learned to deliver Trump’s daily intelligence briefing in short bullet-points loaded with maps, charts and “killer graphics,” according to a Washington Post report last year.

Hedges opines that American society’s lack of upward mobility — its class inelasticity — has made the outward appearance of wealth matter disproportionately more than ever. We desire $700 shoes, gilded bling and other trappings of the “haves,” because we want to disguise the fact that we are the have-nots.

Needless to say, Donald Trump appears in the film, if only in passing, about a half-hour in, when the businessman turned president’s role as an avatar of the American Dream — a self-made mogul, or so he would have us believe — is held up as an explanation of his political ascendancy. We voted for him, in other words, because we want to be him, or at least to believe the version of him we saw on “The Apprentice.”

Interviews with the subjects, now 40-ish, of “Fast Forward,” paired with shots from the book of their former, less introspective adolescent selves, also add useful substance and poignant wisdom. Florian Homm, the wealthy German former hedge fund manager who went on the lam in 2007 after being charged with investment fraud by the U.S. government, appears in interviews, too. Homm comes across as unchastened, but at least more cautious about the empty promises of prosperity. “If you think that money will buy you anything and everything,” he says, “you’ve never, ever had money.”

Greenfield, for the most part, wisely leaves the preaching to others. If “Generation Wealth” has a message that empty acquisitiveness is bad, it delivers it, like the rest of her work, by showing, not telling.

Reagan’s Son: Trump’s Base Would Pick Putin Over Any Democrat As U.S. President

The son of former President Ronald Reagan believes Donald Trump’s political base is so consumed by hatred for the Democrats that they would vote for Vladimir Putin to be America’s president instead of virtually any member of that party.

“They really aren’t in touch with reality. The most important thing to them [is that Trump] seems to hate the same people that they hate,” Ron Reagan told Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s “Hardball” on Thursday. “That’s the real Trump derangement syndrome.”

On the other hand, they like the people Trump likes, Reagan said. Russian President Putin’s popularity is rising, he noted.

“If it was left just up to Trump’s base, they would elect Vladimir Putin as president of the United States over virtually anybody with a D after their name,” he added. “If Trump seems to love Putin, they’ll love Putin, too.”

The perpetually-drunk Juncker probably NEEDED flashcards!

There was a video from a few years ago, which is no longer available, showing Juncker passing a review line and leaning heavily on the male representatives while fondling their neckties. Hilarious!

Signym, I should have testified that Texas Republicans in Harris County would vote for Putin rather than Hillary. Did you know Hillary killed four Americans at Benghazi with her bare hands and bathed in their blood? Ask any Texas Republican. They know for a fact she walked over their corpses. Even Putin as US President would be better than her, despite him being ineligible because he is not a native born American. Obama got elected and you know he was born in Kenya and was less eligible to be President than Putin. Ask a Texas Republican and they will tell you that rock-solid and true fact.
