You OBVIOUSLY haven't read one single bit of the news - either that or you're a professional propagandist, sorry, PR flack.

Do you know what's allowed under Newsom's orders?

I'll wait.

HINT - I posted it in this thread.

This is an interesting bit on how an echo chamber originates and is spread - in this case with the help of the German government.

I've worked at home for the last 10 years - so yeah, let me tell YOU all about it... Gawd, what a dunce.

So you went out yesterday, went all over the place as if you were trying to spread the virus or catch it, you had your whiny excuses, BUT TODAY, right after your gov shuts all of California down and tells you something that was great advice a week ago, to stay home, and overnight you are preaching about what you couldn't listen to the day before. Just own it. You couldn't take someone else's advice until you had no choice and now you want to act like you were an early champion of the idea.

Are you sure you aren't a professional clown, because you sure do make me laugh.

"All over the place"? Two grocery stores in one week? No restaurants, no gyms, no gas stations or post offices or ... anything?

Not only that, but I was limiting our trips outside the home THREE WEEKS before the "shelter-in-place" order was issued. And I was using a mask then, too. What are you, a troll??

Oh, yeah ... don't bother to deny that one. I'll bet YOU were going "all over the place" the past three weeks. Bare-faced, too, I'll bet!

Yeah, don't bother to deny that either.

SIX, you insinuated that KIKI was in favor of government control over everything, which I know for a fact is not true. Climb down from that holier-than-thou perch and admit that you were wrong.

And JSF is a dunce when it comes to biology. He posted about some non-existent "correlation" between "something" and "something else" in his argument that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, and has not been able to back it up with anything. Not a citation or even a cogent explanation. It's at the bottom of his giant hole of ignorance about the topic.

You both sound like flat-earthers to me when it comes to AIDS/HIV, and you both sound like you're in denial about COVID-19. Don't you think it's about time you got over your childhood trauma and your collective ignorance/ideological bent on the topic and maybe learn something?

At this point, this isn't about me anymore.

Kiki has said 100 times more insulting things my way than whatever she thinks I said to her.

She's acting completely unhinged, and if there was any chance in hell that I was ever going to apologize for something to her, there is no way that's happening now.

KIKI, you're posting to someone who is posting from fear. You can't possibly change SIX's mind by shouting at him. I ran into the same thing about Iraq WMD, this person was convinced -among other things- that UN resolution somehow allowed USA intervention. I told poster that UN resolutions supersede each other. I dragged up the definition of supersede. I found and posted three examples of UN resolutions which actually DID authorize use of force, and compared it to the resolution in question. In the end I was so frustrated I wanted to crawl thru the internet and reach out and bitch slap the guy. Only time and experience showed him the error of his ideas. There's nothing you can do.

Yes, I know SIX has insinuated all kinds of things about you that aren't true. Just consider the source: if he can become THAT dishonest under pressure of fear, what the hell do you care what he thinks? Don't follow his example

Let's just get back to the topic at hand. SIX will either be shown wrong, or not, by upcoming events.

I think where SIX is making a big mistake is that he's comparing a whole year's-worth of death from a specific cause to a month's-worth of death from COVID-19. And, in the USA, the deaths haven't ramped up yet. But for purposes of illustration, look at Italy,

Quote:

The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy has leapt by 627 to 4,032, officials said on Friday, an increase of 18.4% - by far the largest daily rise in absolute terms since the contagion emerged a month ago.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-italy-tally-idUS
KBN2172VL

4032 deaths isn't a huge amount. But 4,032 deaths in a month ... well, that's 48,00 deaths in a year, which is a lot; given Italy's size. And that's assuming the death rate stays at last month's average, but what if it ramps up to over 600 PER DAY, which was the latest rate? That's over 219,000 per year, which would be a phenomenal amount for a nation the size of the USA, but is astonishing for a nation the size of Italy.

RIGHT NOW, the American death rate ... and I mean, literally, deaths per day ... is fairly low. But it IS accelerating, and the same calculations apply: In order to understand the impact of a particular death rate, you have to annualize the deaths in order to compare it to any other cause of death which has a known and relatively stable (calculable) death rate.

See what I mean, SIX? Any other topic, you would have caught the error. But this just goes against your ideological bent, so you propagated it instead. Please return to sanity soon.

You're not taking into account the amount of cases there are.

Testing has hardly even begun and hardly has been reported. It's pretty hard not to count the dead people.

There could be a quarter of a million people who have or have had the Coronavirus (which drops the death rate to well below that of the flu). Maybe there's already a million.

One single day of a small amount of updated tests have already showed a lower fatality rate than the day prior, both by CDC and Johns Hopkins counts. There is zero reason to suspect that ratio will only continue to drop as more people are tested.

My brain isn't broken. I've seen movies like Outbreak before. I know exactly what you're paranoid about right now. It's the same fears the legacy media has been trying to make everybody scared of.

You and Kiki weren't buying it when it was Russiagate. They found the thing that scared you now though.

Don't feel too bad about it. You're in good company.

SIX you're using wrong terminology which is confusing.

Death rate is deaths per total population, case fatality rate is deaths per infection. Death rate is always lower than case fatality rate.

You're arguing EXACTLY what I posted way at the beginning of this thing. You're not telling me anything I don't know. If you had bothered to read the earlier posts instead of throwing a giant hissy fit you might have noticed.

And I'm not scared, but I'm old and we have a disabled daughter to take care of, so I need to take precautions. It sure would be nice if other people took precautions to, instead of just cavalierly tossing "old people" into the trash bin.

You made your prediction. My point is somewhat different: even if the case fatality rate isn't catastrophically high, of it's infectious enough it can have a large impact

I'm not throwing a hissy fit. Kiki is.

Her behavior is disgusting.

My predictions is that the percentage of deaths to actual legitimate confirmed cases isn't going to be any higher than the flu when enough testing is done and that the rates we've heard so far are fantasy numbers based off of zero evidence of the big picture.

Call it whatever you want to call it.

And don't worry about the elderly. The Democratic leaders in your state have enacted the same policies that China did to protect them. Democratic leaders in New York and Illinois followed right behind them.

Coronavirus will end up being worse for liberty than 9/11 was when this is over.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/99-25-of-those-who-died-from-viru
s-had-other-illness-italy-says/ar-BB11mr4X

Quote:

99% of Those Who Died From Virus Had Other Illness, Italy Says

The new study could provide insight into why Italy’s death rate, at about 8% of total infected people, is higher than in other countries.

The Rome-based institute has examined medical records of about 18% of the country’s coronavirus fatalities, finding that just three victims, or 0.8% of the total, had no previous pathology. Almost half of the victims suffered from at least three prior illnesses and about a fourth had either one or two previous conditions.

More than 75% had high blood pressure, about 35% had diabetes and a third suffered from heart disease.

The average age of those who’ve died from the virus in Italy is 79.5. As of March 17, 17 people under 50 had died from the disease. All of Italy’s victims under 40 have been males with serious existing medical conditions.

While data released Tuesday point to a slowdown in the increase of cases, with a 12.6% rise, a separate study shows Italy could be underestimating the real number of cases by testing only patients presenting symptoms.

According to the GIMBE Foundation, about 100,000 Italians have contracted the virus, daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported. That would bring back the country’s death rate closer to the global average of about 2%.

Sounds an awful lot like what I've been saying the whole time to me.

Yes, I know, SIX: Truth hurts.

The sad thing is, it isn't even necessary to toss [some] people out of your imaginary lifeboat. This COULD have been handled ... and still COULD be handled ... with lots and lots of testing, which might have meant isolating SOME people (much less economically disruptive) instead of everyone. Once antivirals and vaccines are in play, this collapses down to a somewhat worse-than-average flu, not the economy-altering event that it has become for some, and possibly will be for others.

Do you know what I think, politically-speaking? Trump - never one for details - was taking his cue from BoJo, and BoJo's approach was to "take it on the chin". That is,untila Royal College of London report detailed for him howmany million dead that would mean (There goes your political future, BoJo!) and that report was sent to Trump, which caused his butt to pucker.

I have absolutely no respect for how Trump handled this, just as I have no respect for how Trump prostituted himself to The Fed in order to keep stock prices high. It's THE ECONOMY that needs revamping, not the hedge funds that need bailouts. Shit, if you're going to print money anyway just tell the Fed to blow off, print the money yourself (like the USA is Constitutionally supposed to do) and spend it on revitalizing manufacturing and infrastructure. Tell the rest of the fuckers to go hang. But Trump was too busy playing footsie with the Fed and letting them blow the Everything Bubble.

I realize that this is way off-topic. I support Trump for SOME things, but not everything, and he's done some really stupid shit, including listening to his neocon-in-waiting and playing regime-change games and blowing bubbles when he really should have been attending to home.

Oh,and not paying any attention to the crisis that was lurking around the corner. Now THAT was stupid.

While that's definately not untrue, that's only the far smaller portion of it. It just needs to be said because it's FACT OVER FEELS.

You skipped the part where they're saying that there are at least 100,000 cases of it already in Italy. Not 14,000.

You also skipped the part where 100,000 brings it close to the 2% rate globally.

18,500+ here already brought it down to 1.222%, and there are likely many, many more people that have it.

Kiki just said in a follow up post that it will blow past 20k this morning. That's not because that many new people just got it in the last few days. It's due in large part because testing has only really begun to start.

If there are actually 100k people here that have it, the percentage of dead in this country goes down to .35% even if the dead number goes up to 350 by tomorrow.

If there are 250k people here who already have it, that percentage goes down to .14%, which is not far from flu numbers. If half a million people already have it, we're looking at only .07%.

Now... I'm not one to scream libel and threaten lawsuits, and look down at anybody who does that here as extremely pathetic, but it's really fucking stupid for somebody to claim that I'm doing it, and then continually say that I don't give a fuck about old people when that's not the point I'm trying to make.

SIX, no matter how you dress it up, justify, or rationalize it, your message is still the same: I'm young and my risk factors are low, so fuck the old people.

Those row of coffins and convoys of military vehicles carrying them? The makeshift ICUs filled with the critically ill,and the hallways of those who were denied care? NO BIG DEAL

A few hundred thousand or a million dying? Not as important as "people" (ie younger people) getting "hurt" economically or politically

This has nothing to do with freedom, or logic, or facts, this all has to do with SIX finally feeling a little less stressed economically and slightly less isolated socially, his exaggerated fears soothed, and then having it all potentially snatched away. I've got mine and you can't take it

It looks like somebody found YOUR price, doesn't it? It is the very low price of SIX being lifted from the life of a sewer rat

I feel sorry for your fears and your pain, I really do. I hope you succeed in life, but you have GOT to start making smarter decisions! This virus is not an "either/or" choice, unless you choose it to be. I know you're smarter than that, SIX. Put on your thinking cap and figure out how everyone can get something positive out of this, assuming that better policies prevail. And if better policies do NOT prevail, then the fault is with the policy-makers, is it not? NOT the people whose necks are on the chopping block, along with yours.

Violence has been the sire of all the world’s values,” wrote poet Robinson Jeffers in 1940. “What but the wolf’s tooth whittled so fine the fleet limbs of the antelope? What but fear winged the birds, and hunger jeweled with such eyes the great goshawk’s head?”

We’ve taken these metaphors for evolution to heart, reading them to mean that life is a race to kill or be killed. “Darwinian” stands in for “cutthroat,” “survival of the fittest” signifies survival of the ruthless. We see selective pressures that hone each organism for success and drive genetic innovation as the natural order of things.

Two Models of Evolution: The early interpretation of Darwinian evolution as life-or-death contest is being complemented by an understanding of the importance of cooperation. Photo by Martin Harvey / Auscape / Getty Images.

But we know now that that picture is incomplete. Evolutionary progress can be propelled both by the competitive struggle to adapt to an environment, and by the relaxation of selective forces. When natural selection on an organism is relaxed, the creative powers of mutation can be unshackled and evolution accelerated. The relief of an easier life can inspire new biological forms just as powerfully as the threat of death.

One of the best ways to relax selective forces is to work together, something that mathematical biologist Martin Nowak has called the “snuggle for survival.” New research has only deepened and broadened the importance of cooperation and lifting of selective pressures. It’s a big, snuggly world out there.

Do you know what's allowed under Newsom's orders?

I'll wait.

HINT - I posted it in this thread.

You obviously don't understand what a virus is. You try to pass yourself off as some science person, and yet you went out well after social distancing and "stay home unless you have to" common f*kcing sense was well known. And now you want to excuse your lazy thinking by saying some politician said it was ok... sort of?

You should have stayed fracking home, period. You really didn't have food at home? You really needed that 10lb pork roast?

LOL. Okay Wishy. Nice way of saying incel. You must have been loading up on Omega3's because you certainly have a much more intelligent way of saying things than you used to.

Have I ever once came off to you like a person that gives a shit about fostering a single person, let alone an entire generation?

To be fair, she might not have said that. You may be mistaking that for something that I said. I know that I was saying that those drywall masks aren't going to do shit to prevent you spreading or contracting the flu or any other virus.

But, I don't know. She might have said it. I'm starting to confuse things that Sigs and Kiki have posted over this last week.

Health officials in New York City and Los Angeles County are signaling a change in local strategy when it comes to coronavirus testing, recommending that doctors avoid testing patients except in cases where a test result would significantly change the course of treatment.

A news release from the Los Angeles Department of Public Health this week advised doctors not to test those experiencing only mild respiratory symptoms unless “a diagnostic result will change clinical management or inform public health response.”

The recommendation reflects a "shifting from a strategy of case containment to slowing disease transmission and averting excess morbidity and mortality," according to the statement.

The guidance said coronavirus testing at L.A. County public health labs will prioritized those with symptoms, health care workers, residents of long-term care facilities, paramedics and other high-risk situations. Others are encouraged to simply stay at home.

At about the same time, the New York City Department of Health directed all healthcare facilities to immediately stop testing non-hospitalized patients for Covid-19.

Well, that'll skew the numbers!

Unlike people who have immediately gone from viewing the government by its own nature as an enemy of the people to their savior when they get panicked, just like our Forefathers warned us against, I will never, EVER waver on that issue.

So... Here's me continuing to "Warrior", against manufactured panic and our own government exhibiting fascist behavior in the name of "protecting the public".

The part of that article you should REALLY focus on is this:

Quote:

But Matteo Bassetti of Italy's prestigious San Martino clinic in Genoa said the government probably had no idea how many people really had the new disease.

"There are so many people walking around who have the virus and who are at risk of infecting others," Bassetti told Italy's AGI news agency.

"The 40,000 cases we are talking about (in Italy) could actually be 100 times higher."

Could actually be 100 times higher. 100 times higher. Higher by 100 times.

I could say that another 100 times if you need me to until you get the implication of that. In fact, over the last 10 or so days, I ALREADY FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN. I just don't have a fancy degree and wear a lab coat so nobody takes what I have to say seriously.

I will detail what that means in my own thread on the topic.

So I did some pencil-whipping of my own. I took a look at the USA population distribution by age https://www.statista.com/statistics/241488/population-of-the-us-by-sex
-and-age
/ and crossed it with the Chinese death rate by age https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-death-age-older-people-hig
her-risk-2020-2?op=1
assuming that the virus is unconstrained and that 80% of the population gets the virus within one year.

Using those basic figures and assumptions, I calculate a death rate of 15.73 MILLION in one year:

127,000 dead in the 40-50 age range
445,000 .... 50-60
1,077,000 ... 60-70
2,169,000 ... 70-80
1,501,000 ... 80+

The remainder of the population accounts for an additional 322,000 deaths

So we can discuss the differences in basic health status of Chinese v Americans, health care delivery, the speed of the spread of contagion (maybe it will take 2 years to reach the 80% mark), whether the overwhelmed medical system will allow additional deaths from car accidents, heart attacks, cancer, difficult childbirths etc. but I think 15 million in one year is a good first estimate.

Check my math!

I've been thinking about this.

First of all, it means the testing capacity is so FUBARed they've given up even trying to test in a high demand situation.

And it looks like NYC Health has pretty much written off the entire city ... unless they're now issuing blanket quarantine orders for anything that looks like COVID-19. They're not even trying to isolate cases, or even count numbers as they go in and out of medical offices, clinics, and ERs.

And what specifically is LACounty doing?

And, as usual, important specifics got left out! If someone presents with something that looks like COVID-19, are they still recommending quarantine at home even if it's unconfirmed? And quarantine of family members from the sick person in the same home? Or have they written communities and families off along with quarantines? If so, was it because experience was showing them that people weren't, or couldn't, stick to quarantines due to asocial responses, mingy apartments, and lack of helpful family and/ or neighbors?

LACounty is going with quarantining unconfirmed COVID-19 patients.
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-03-20/coronavirus-county
-doctors-containment-testing

As I read this, lack of confirming test results were an obstacle to quarantining patients. They've decided to both stop testing AND simultaneously not base quarantine orders on test results. Instead, they're ordering quarantines based on 'clinical' diagnosis only.

How can the testing situation become so incredibly FUBARED? Is it overwhelming demand? Inability to prioritize testing? Kits that don't work? Desire NOT to see the results? Concern that the testing situation is mixing the worried well with the truly sick?

Isn't it a little late to wait until someone is hospitalized until they're tested? If they have Covid-19, shouldn't they be put into a negative pressure isolation unit immediately??

SIX: Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Oh jeez, now you sound just like WISHY. SHE'S willing to sacrifie millions ... billions ... on her altar of "liberty" and so, apparently, are you. No wonder you argue so much: you're very much the same.

SOMETIMES you have to sacrifice "essential liberty" ... like, the freedom to go around potentially infecting others ... because real-world circumstances (which respect no ideology) require you to do so.

But people should be able to make distinctions between virus-related responses and power-grabs.

Making test kits as available as possible to as many as possible? A useful response.
Quarantining demonstrably infectious people? Useful response.
Arrogating the power to confiscate guns and alcohol? Power grab.
Asking for the power to indefinitely detain people without trial? Power grab.
Ordering "shelter in place"? Useful, but only if combined with enhanced testing, otherwise it becomes, in effect, indefinite detention.
MANDATORY de-identified case reporting? Useful response.
Transparency of data? Useful response.
Doxxing people? Power grab.
Enforcing "political correctness" on discussions? Power grab.

I would, for example, never accept that Congress write a new, permanent law (like the so-called "Patriot" Act) when the government already has all of the power that it needs AND the situation is only temporary.

I would never accept censorship of the internet (like RUSSIA!RUSSIA! prompted).

Nor would I accept universal surveillance.

Not too keen on the Fed bailing out hedge funds either. These are big boys and girls, whenyou invest in a hedge fund you know your money is at risk, and if your bet goes sideways you should expect to swallow the results.

I understand "never let a good crisis go to waste" means that all kinds of interests will be doing their best to weaponize the event. But since "doing nothing" is not an option, you simply have to be a wise analyst of cui bonoand separate the wheat from the chaff,

It's shortages ... shortages of test kits, and of masks, gowns, and gloves to safely do the testing; and an unwillingness to risk medical people by doing unsafe testing when they are, and will be, needed elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if was also long turn-around-times because the US doesn't have high-volume testing capabilities. Many different laboratories are all siloed with their own different mix of equipment and instrumentation geared towards flexible but EXTREMELY low-volume 'specialty testing'.

Checking out the link back to the original at medium.com - it's always interesting when a recent link gives a 410 error "This post is under investigation or was found in violation of the Medium Rules.".

OMG his analysis was - scrambled. Here's one example - he talked about the 'fact' that R0 was dropping in different countries, as if it was some magical kinder, gentler virus that was being more polite. But measured R0 - which is all we have in the real world, and which is what he was talking about - is VITALLY dependent on the social circumstances of the society the virus is spreading through. To illustrate the point - measured R0 will vary between a society where everyone lives alone v a society where extended families live 30 in a single hut. And as a matter of recent historical fact - R0 was dropping because countries were/ are taking active measures to stop viral spread.

I'd do an extended discussion of his discussion, but I know no one would read it because their minds are already made up.

Anyway, he's a guy who definitely has an agenda to push -
Who is Aaron Ginn?
