I believe there are 2 things going on with this.

1. The Dems will say publicly they are holding things up until Moscow Mitch agrees to certain trial terms. I think that's just a stall, though. I think every Dem knows McConnell will never bend, so the stall is built in to go as long as the Dems want it to.

2. The reason the Dems want the stall is because there's more evidence of Trump's sh*tty lying behavior about to come out ala Lev and Igor and Rudy. It's just going to look worse and worse for Trump. NOT that he will be removed because of it, but he will look that much worse to any undecideds in NOV. The guy is his own worst enemy and can't keep his mouth shut. So basically, let him hang himself. That would be sweet justice.

Trump is on record saying: "I would actually like people to testify. ... I would love to have Mike Pompeo, Rick Perry, Mick Mulvaney, and many others testify about the phony Impeachment Hoax."

Democrats are in a position to call the president's bluff. John Bolton might not lie to protect Trump, since he was fired. Especially if Bolton is made aware that he can go to prison as did Trump's attorney Michael Cohen, who also lied to Congress and eventually, a year later, his lie was discovered.

Sure, they're great at taking the President to task for his actions, but have you heard Chuck, Nancy and Jerrold sing?

What is Nancy doing now?

She's holding onto the publicly available impeachment results and not giving it to the Senate until she gets "assurances"?

They're looking for more evidence to convict now. Shouldn't that have been done before a vote? Why did they blow their load and force the vote before Christmas if they were just going to hold onto it indefinitely while they scatter and look for more evidence?

Not a good look.

By the way...

Betting odds on removal from office now stand at -5000 No to +2000 yes. Vegas odds are 500 to 1.

It's quite amusing seeing just how many people are getting infuriated today while somebody has to explain to them why Trump is still their president today.

If you have not noticed, Mitch McConnell said he is NOT calling any witnesses in the Senate. The House is NOT letting the trial start before Mitch backs down. But if Mitch wants to start the trial without the prosecutors from the House, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court won't let him. We knew three years ago that the GOP would never remove Trump, but that does not mean Trump is innocent. The prosecution will drag Trump across concrete until he dies from blood loss or his head pops off, but the GOP Senators will vote that Trump is innocent, despite that.

lol

What I think is the most amusing thing here is that this is exactly what Trump wanted. He was blatantly begging for it.

Think about it for a minute...

Not only does this ensure his reelection in 2020, but it's much deeper than that. It's common knowledge how narcissistic Trump is, right?

How many of the 44 presidents before him can most people name? 10? 15? Maybe 20 if they're above average IQ and don't google it first?

Trump just ensured that he won't be forgotten, no matter what else happens. He has no problem being an agitator, troll and laughing at people who throw a bunch of hyperbole his way. What some consider a badge of infamy, that little asterisk that will now be on his name for the history books, has just elevated him to an exclusive club. 25 years ago, that might have been a horrible thing, but with Bill Clinton being a part of it in a similar partisan bullshit attempt at removal, the stigma is gone.

He's no longer one of 45. He's one of 3. Just the way he would have wanted it.

The Democrats were lead like marionettes on a string every step of the way, and yesterday they delivered the 2nd best Christmas present that Trump ever got.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump is angry tweeting at Christianity Today:

A far left magazine, or very “progressive,” as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President. No President has done more for the Evangelical community, and it’s not even close. You’ll not get anything from those Dems on stage. I won’t be reading ET again!

In our founding documents, Billy Graham explains that Christianity Today will help evangelical Christians interpret the news in a manner that reflects their faith. The impeachment of Donald Trump is a significant event in the story of our republic. It requires comment.

The typical CT approach is to stay above the fray and allow Christians with different political convictions to make their arguments in the public square, to encourage all to pursue justice according to their convictions and treat their political opposition as charitably as possible. We want CT to be a place that welcomes Christians from across the political spectrum, and reminds everyone that politics is not the end and purpose of our being. We take pride in the fact, for instance, that politics does not dominate our homepage.

That said, we do feel it necessary from time to time to make our own opinions on political matters clear—always, as Graham encouraged us, doing so with both conviction and love. We love and pray for our president, as we love and pray for leaders (as well as ordinary citizens) on both sides of the political aisle.

Let’s grant this to the president: The Democrats have had it out for him from day one, and therefore nearly everything they do is under a cloud of partisan suspicion. This has led many to suspect not only motives but facts in these recent impeachment hearings. And, no, Mr. Trump did not have a serious opportunity to offer his side of the story in the House hearings on impeachment.

But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.

The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.

The latest Russia bombshell bolsters Democrats’ demand for evidence

After meeting privately in July 2017 with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, [President] Trump grew more insistent that Ukraine worked to defeat him, according to multiple former officials familiar with his assertions.

The president’s intense resistance to the assessment of U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia systematically interfered in the 2016 campaign — and the blame he cast instead on a rival country — led many of his advisers to think that Putin himself helped spur the idea of Ukraine’s culpability, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions.

The report continues: “One former senior White House official said Trump even stated so explicitly at one point, saying he knew Ukraine was the real culprit because ‘Putin told me.’ Two other former officials said the senior White House official described Trump’s comment to them.” In short, “The concern among senior White House officials that Putin helped fuel Trump’s theories about Ukraine underscores long-standing fears inside the administration about the Russian president’s ability to influence Trump’s views.” Finally, "Three former senior administration officials said Trump repeatedly insisted after the G-20 summit that he believed Putin’s assurances that Russia had not interfered in the 2016 campaign. The officials said [chief of staff John] Kelly, national security adviser H.R. McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson all tried to caution Trump not to rely on Putin’s word, and to focus on evidence to the contrary that U.S. intelligence agencies had collected.”

There could be no better example as to why the Senate must be able to subpoena former officials for the impeachment trial and obtain documents Trump has concealed under a spurious absolute immunity defense. It is essential to end the Trump coverup and figure out how to force John Kelly, H.R. McMaster and Rex Tillerson to appear in the Senate trial.

Incomplete analysis.

The Dems had NO evidence of any high crime or misdemeanor. If you had paid attention to what the so-called witnesses testified, you yourself would have realized that they heard nothing, saw nothing, and did nothing. Nobody testified that the transcript was inaccurate, and neither person at either end of the phone call (Trump, Zelenskiy) said there was any pressure.

So if the Dems believe that more evidence [I can't say "more" evidence because none was presented to begin with] WHY did they go ahead with impeachment on the basis of nothing? WHY allow Trump to be able to make the case that he's being persecuted? Why not wait until actual evidence... probative evidence ... is forthcoming and be able to make a case that will convince independents? Why paint themselves as rabid partisans engaged in political theater? Because with this impeachment, Trump's approval rating has actually gone UP, so this was counterproductive so far.

And what happens to YOUR case if there is more evidence forthcoming that ties Joe and Hunter Biden to money-laundering and ties Joe Biden to interference in Ukraine with an ongoing corruption investigation? Or links the former Ukrainian government (under Poroshenko) to the DNC and election-meddling in the USA in 2016?

What would independents say? Just as importantly, what would YOU say? Would you continue with the fiction that Democrats are as pure as the driven snow? Or would you finally admit that Dems, too, have a lot to answer for?

BTW... Moscow Mitch is a cheap smear, just as much as Russian Troll and collusion with Russia. NONE of those are factual or true. That CC resorts to such loaded terms ... and that you fall for them, JO ... doesn't say much for his honesty or your intellect.

Job approval has remained steady, support for impeachment is in the negative numbers now, and betting odds on Trump winning 2020 dwarf anybody else out there.

Pushing back against charges that Senator Mitch McConnell is a Russian asset, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said on Tuesday that McConnell “has never been an asset to any country.”

“You can scour the four corners of the globe, and you will not find a nation that would ever in a million years consider Mitch McConnell an asset,” Putin said.

The Russian President urged pundits who have called McConnell a Russian asset “to look up the word ‘asset’ in the dictionary.”

“You will find that ‘asset’ means a useful or valuable thing,” Putin said. “The only part of that definition that fits McConnell is ‘thing.’ ”

Pressing his case further, he said that it was debatable whether McConnell was even an asset to his home state of Kentucky. “Maybe compared to Rand Paul he is, but that’s setting the bar ludicrously low,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Putin said that people who ask, “Who does Mitch McConnell work for?” are asking the wrong question. “The question should be ‘When has Mitch McConnell ever worked?’ ” he said.

Christianity Today wrote:

Trump’s evangelical supporters have pointed to his Supreme Court nominees, his defense of religious liberty, and his stewardship of the economy, among other things, as achievements that justify their support of the president. We believe the impeachment hearings have made it absolutely clear, in a way the Mueller investigation did not, that President Trump has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath. The impeachment hearings have illuminated the president’s moral deficiencies for all to see. This damages the institution of the presidency, damages the reputation of our country, and damages both the spirit and the future of our people. None of the president’s positives can balance the moral and political danger we face under a leader of such grossly immoral character.

Former Republican Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) called on current GOP senators to put "country over party" when President Trump's impeachment trial begins.

"My simple test for all of us: What if President Barack Obama had engaged in precisely the same behavior? I know the answer to that question with certainty, and so do you," Flake wrote. "You would have understood with striking clarity the threat it posed, and you would have known exactly what to do.

"But what is indefensible is echoing House Republicans who say that the president has not done anything wrong. He has," he continued. "If there ever was a time to put country over party, it is now. And by putting country over party, you might just save the Grand Old Party before it’s too late."

The editor in chief of Christianity Today explains his scathing editorial about the president’s behavior—and the damage he argues his fellow Christians are doing to the Gospel.

I don’t think it was until the impeachment hearings that there was some sort of smoking gun that was just unambiguously clear. The Mueller investigation was so confusing. It was hard to tell what was legal or illegal, moral or immoral. I just don’t know how that world works. But with the impeachment hearings, it became absolutely clear that he tried to use his power as the president to manipulate a foreign leader into getting dirt on his political enemies. That’s unconstitutional, and it’s immoral. So it was kind of a clear moment.

Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

When is an impeachment NOT an impeachment? Now that's a philosophical question for the ages.

It's a bit like abortion. Is the line between fetus and birth? Between fetus and pain? After conception? After the pregnancy fails to advance? After the tissues are resorbed?

Tell me SECOND, is it too late for your abortion?

Posted happily drunk!

Sorry to inform you, but Trump was impeached. The impeachment alarm clock bell has rung and it can't be unrung:

JSF's post works as a metaphor. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison. In this instance exposing his level of intelligence or lack there of.

Trump has been impeached. Done, over...

And, quietly, the tissues of conception are resorbed. The bell is unrung.

Sorry to inform you, but politics, law and engineering are not reproductive biology. If McConnell won't allow the witnesses chosen by the prosecutors, then Trump's trial is not gonna start. If Trump won't allow Mulvaney, Bolton, and Pompeo to testify, again, the trial won't start. If the White House won't turn over documents, evidence, tax returns, the trial won't start. We knew for years that McConnell and the other GOP Senators, except for maybe Romney and Susan Collins, will instantly vote not guilty before the trial even starts, which is why it is not starting.

White House lawyers have made the argument that the President has the constitutional authority to ignore all congressional requests because he cannot be indicted, convicted, or investigated. In brief, as President he stands above the law. All the lower court rulings thus far have dismissed this argument as frivolous. Perhaps the cases can be bundled and decided by the Supreme Court sooner rather than later. Until then, Trump's trial is not starting.

Pelosi has no Constitutional authority to determine what happens in the Senate. "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments ..."

As far as I'm concerned, the House can hang on to that useless charade as long as it wants - into infinity (or until it expires in 2021, like any bill that's failed to move out of the House). It'll be a noose around their necks, politically-speaking. They'll have to keep stumping the same tired-old slogans that people have already written off.

You know what ** I ** find funny?

Nobody can quote Trump as saying anything except "I want nothing.". And it looks like the text of the phone call isn't enough, which is why the House wants additional testimony. So, absent a quotable quote from Trump, and with the phone call falling short, according to the testimony (which you'd know if you bothered with it), Giuliani is the linchpin in all of the supposed extortion. And the House wants nothing to do with him. They've never demanded even once that Giuliani testify. It's almost like they're afraid of what he'll say.

That's what I find funny.

FLIES SHIT.

Yeah... um... actually...

lol

It sounds like impeachment might have not actually been official.

That would seriously be hilarious if it ends up being true.
