Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself.”"

I've read elsewhere (I'd have to dig it up) that the other half of this equation that *I* think needs to be there is something that the US won't commit to - and that's the promise that the US will not strike first.

But US policy has always been to reserve the 'first strike' option for itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_first_use That understandably makes a lot of countries nervous and is helping drive the whole crazy-train forward.

IF you think the US might nuke you first, you could be driven to acquire a nuclear option of your own. Sure, you won't win a nuclear exchange, but you could make a US first strike painful enough to make the US think twice.

Nobody. Not one single country, would agree not to strike first. What would it matter if they did? Nobody would believe them anyway. It would be like walking into a bus and a guy is pointing a gun at your face and he says "don't worry man. as long as you don't have a gun and you don't pull it out, I won't shoot you in the face". Would you believe that person?

Mutually Assured Destruction worked in an age without a prominent twisted ideology that is spreading that values God more than human life. I'm not so sure that it will continue to work as Muslim nations get their hands on them.

There's nothing mutual about it. A minor nuclear nation might possibly take out a US city. But in turn, it would be slagged completely. The destruction part of the concept would be totally one-sided.

Thinking you got one good nuclear strike in before your entire country was destroyed seems like the definition of losing. I can't imagine even the most diehard fanatics would go for it. Patton supposedly said something to the effect that nobody won a war by dying for their country, but by making sure somebody else died. Flip that around a bit and you'll see that most senior Muslim extremists aren't suicide bombers - they make sure somebody else is. I just don't see how they could compute a percentage where everyone who might participate in the cause is gone - the bombers, the audience, and, oh yeah, themselves.

The problem is, half of the country isn't going to read that article.

Without getting to sentence number one, she's attacked 60+ million people, and even if she is a psychiatrist, I don't believe she's qualified to mass-diagnose all of them.

Next time, pick a better title for your article, Ms. Gessen.

......

I thought more about it and I have no place to give her advice about her job.

Her job is not to present facts to people and/or change anybody's mind.

Her job is selling papers and/or getting clicks.

While 60+ million people aren't going to read that article, there is another 60+ million that wouldn't be opposed to read it, and a large amount of those love reading articles like that.

The only injustice being done here is to the facts themselves. If there actually are truly troublesome things about Trumps psychology that people should know about, they're being buried beneath politics.

It's not her job to worry about that though. That doesn't sell papers.

My second opinion?

Great title, Ms. Gessen.

Did you hear Trump called Flynt within an hour to claim the reward?

Just minutes after the publisher Larry Flynt offered ten million dollars in exchange for information leading to Donald Trump’s impeachment, Trump contacted Flynt and said that he would gladly provide the information himself in exchange for the cash.

According to Flynt, shortly after their phone conversation Trump sent him a voluminous number of e-mails, phone records, and other evidence of impeachable offenses, after which Flynt wired ten million dollars to Trump’s Swiss bank account.

“That was a lot easier than I thought it would be, to be honest,” Flynt told reporters.

The swift denouement to Trump’s tenure in the White House raised more than a few eyebrows in Washington, with some insiders wondering if Trump’s eagerness to accept the ten-million-dollar payment indicated that his net worth was considerably smaller than he had professed.

Robert Mueller, the independent counsel investigating Trump’s ties to Russia, expressed some sadness that he was not able to bring his probe to a conclusion. “I don’t know what evidence Trump had against himself, but I guarantee you I had more,” he said.

Meanwhile, the success of Flynt’s cash offer appears to have only emboldened the publisher, who announced that he is now offering twenty million dollars for information leading to the impeachment of Mike Pence.

Trump sent a tweet on Thursday morning: "Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th. Who paid for it, Russia, the FBI or the Dems (or all)?" This is, of course, common fare by this point in the arc of Trump's presidency. But even by Trump standards, this tweet is remarkable. He is suggesting that a dossier prepared by a former member of British intelligence has not only been totally discredited (it hasn't -- more on that in a minute) but that it might have been funded by some combination of Russia, the Democratic Party and, wait for it, the FBI! Indeed, Trump has a handful of manure he did not need to pick up.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Would he be better or worse than Trump

worse, because he'll have the whole Washington machine behind his goals, unlike Trump who the Deep State had to kettle and still doesn't trust

all the bad stuff that republicans want will pass thru Pence like grease through a goose

Trump is not the problem. He set himself against the Deep State's agenda. And the Deep State's been heading for WWIII for years.
As for you, you're just a Deep State useful idiot, furthering its agenda. So I hope you enjoy cesium in your coffee. You've earned it.

At least one person was charged Friday in connection with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s criminal investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, according to people familiar with the matter.

That person could be taken into custody as soon as Monday, these people said. The number and identity of the defendants, and the charges, couldn’t be determined.

A spokesman for Mr. Mueller, Peter Carr, declined to comment. The news of the charges, marking the first in Mr. Mueller’s investigation, was reported by CNN on Friday.

Everyone knows more about politics than I do ... including my "baby"
Brother who warned me against Pence: he'd be worse than Trump.

My friend who's living in PR always loved politics. He holds the
Republicans to be nuts ... in a dangerous way: a taste for War.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Well, it'll be interesting to see what happens!

Crooks and traitors, that's the Trump circle, crooks and traitors. People who betray friends, country and principle for personal gain.

Lets not forget those who post lies and disinformation in these threads and elsewhere supporting these derelicts in their corrupt endeavors.

i.e. Russian trolls and far right wing nuts.
