Trump is a great benefactor to people like me. I love his tax cut for 1 Percenters. I would love to see the same intensive tax audit for Trump that Paul Manafort received. Trump having to pay back taxes would be good for the Treasury. I’d love that.

Manfort forfeited five New York homes worth an estimated $22 million as part of his plea deal with Mueller, including a Trump Tower condo.

Trump is at least 100 time richer than Manafort. Trump would owe $2.2 billion. I would love to read Trump’s tweets about how unfair it is.

Your cows farting could get us all killed. I don't see you doing anything about that.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I'm in the cattle and natural gas businesses. The millions of tons of methane from N.G. and the CO2 from burning the N.G. that I produce has more climate change affect than the few thousands of pounds of methane from flatulent cows. I'm NOT forcing Trump voters to eat meat or burn gas. I'd stop raising cows and shut in the wells if Trump voters stopped buying. But they aren't stopping because they believe there is no such thing as the greenhouse gas effect.

You ever think that maybe people just like eating a cheeseburger and not freezing to death in the winter?

I'm sure you'll find that a very large majority of Clinton voters indulge in a steak from time to time and pay their gas bill on time at the end of the month as well. I'm sure you'd still have plenty of business if your dreams came true and Thanos came down and removed all of the Trump voters overnight.

Maybe it's not politically driven at all.

It seems to me that the Democrats are going about this the right way even though it is impossible because the GOP controls the Senate to actually impeach and remove Trump before the 2020 election, no matter what is discovered or what kind of smoking gun emerges.

It's a problem that the framers of the Constitution didn’t anticipate. They assumed if ever we had a president who was a demagogue, Congress, regardless of alliances with the president, would do its constitutional duty and not let years go by before doing anything. They would have been shocked not so much by what an odd president we now have but by what a passive Republican Party we have controlling the Senate.

I think the Democrats should be thinking purely in terms of discovering every fact that is relevant about how Trump won office and how he has conducted himself in office. They really should talk as little about impeachment as possible because every time they mention it the other side says: “You see, you’ve already convicted the president and you don’t even have all the facts yet.”

JewelStaiteFan, Inauguration Day occurs in the USA once every four years on January 20. I am certain that your "Impeachment Clock" needs to be reset for daylight savings time since your number: 2,245 days from now is May 2.

On a matter of more importance, one that shows Trump attempting and failing to lock up Hillary:
www.thedailybeast.com/doj-finds-letter-it-said-didnt-exist-ordering-sc
rutiny-of-uranium-one-hillary-clinton

The fact that they only ‘found’ the letter the same week Matthew Whitaker was heading for the exit makes it hard to see DOJ’s previous denial as anything but a deliberate attempt to conceal the extent to which President Trump’s authoritarian demands were being put into action. The authoritarian instinct in the Trump administration needs to be investigated. Sessions and Whitaker shouldn’t escape accountability by skipping town.

It is black and white proof that Trump ordered them to get Hillary into prison, either one way or the other, even if they had to fake the evidence. But Utah U.S. Attorney John Huber would not, so Trump gave up, at least temporarily. Thankfully, Trump has both a short attention span and is not methodical. Instead, he is disorganized. Sad.

Your question: "You ever think that maybe people just like eating a cheeseburger and not freezing to death in the winter?" Answer: Sure.

My question: You ever think that maybe Trump just likes eating a cheeseburger and not dying in the prison? Answer: Sure. Those two desires motivate all that he does. Too bad he doesn't have deeper, more complex motives. He'd be a better man if he did. Better President, too. But I'm sorry to tell you the man is shallow. He is not maturing in the job. He will not be blossoming into Abraham Lincoln, although he has compared himself to Honest Abe.

Not really. I know plenty of Trump voters. It is easy to get under their skin. They are overly sensitive, touchy, crybabies. It's why they have problems making it in the world. Too bad for them if they are irritated by me or feel their "honor" is besmirched. Here is another story that bothers Trump voters: Deep Throat brought down Nixon by giving reporters for the Washington Post Woodward and Bernstein inside information about Watergate. Deep Throat was the second man at the FBI. Trump knows this history and he dumped FBI Director James Comey and FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe because he doesn't want to end up like Nixon. Trump needs people who pledged their loyalty to him because he committed crimes bigger than Watergate.

Trump also has attacked the top two guys at the Department of Justice: Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Same reason: Trump committed crimes.

Trump also attacked Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Same reason: Trump committed crimes. Trump attacked everyone who ever worked for Mueller. Same reason: Trump committed crimes and he doesn't want to end like Nixon.

www.history.com/news/watergate-deep-throat-fbi-informant-nixon

Last, but not least, Trump remembers Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein bringing down Nixon with their daily stories about Watergate. That newspaper doesn't have any famous reporters working on Trump's story, so Trump attacks the entire newspaper and its owner. Trump doesn't want to end like Nixon. He is doing what Nixon could have done to protect himself from prosecution.

What is your favorite warm-weather activity?

When Mueller stepped down as FBI chief, Obama called him “one of the most admired public servants of our time,” adding, “I know very few people in public life who have shown more integrity more consistently under more pressure than Bob Mueller.”

Trump has given a darker assessment, accusing Mueller of pursuing a “rigged witch hunt” while declining to sit for an interview with the special counsel’s team.

The president in November 2018 wrote on Twitter: “Mueller is a conflicted prosecutor gone rogue. The Fake News Media builds Bob Mueller up as a Saint, when in actuality he is the exact opposite. ... Heroes will come of this, and it won’t be Mueller and his terrible Gang of Angry Democrats.”

He also has faulted Mueller for not investigating Hillary Clinton, the defeated 2016 Democratic presidential candidate.

Trump’s attacks on Mueller appeal to his conservative political base as shown when he won cheers denigrating the special counsel during a March 2 speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland.

I'm going to put this in the "predictions" thread. Not that this is a prediction, but it's a marker of a firm opinion about Mueller.

When Mueller's report comes out, it'll be interestig to see how this opinion holds up. Will it wilt and turn critical, like the Democratic opinion of Comey when he revealed that the FBI had temporarily re-activated its investigation of the Hillary email scandal? Will Democrats turn on Mueller, their "fundamental" opinion of a person not based on fact, law, or morals, but only responsive to whether they think he's for or against their tribe?

When Mueller's report comes out, it will not have the results of a tax audit on Trump. An intensive audit of Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen revealed tax cheating, enough to send them to jail, but Trump is not getting that attention from Mueller, I predict.

There are reasons to believe Trump cheated: he lied about the IRS audits preventing him from showing his returns to the public. He lied about $500,000,000 in estate taxes he didn't pay. He lied about the tax law rewrite that was designed to benefit him. Trump is guilty, but Mueller will leave it to the voters to decide because he already knows that GOP controlled Senate would be Trump's jury in a trial.

It's pointless for Mueller to waste his time making a case against Trump when the jury has already decided Trump is innocent. Mueller spent his time on cases where the jury is not the Republican party.

I guess you missed this part:

Quote:

Whether or not these accusations are legitimate is up to the courts to decide. This is in no way an indictment or direct attack on the president; all we are attempting to do with these events is construct an educational case study. By analyzing these scenarios, we should be able to establish a working knowledge of tax fraud and, by extension, tax law itself.

If this was the real world and Trump was my employee, I'd fire Trump now. If he complained that he had not yet been convicted of embezzlement, and therefore it is unfair to terminate his employment, he is still fired, and escorted by security off the premises, and I would redouble my efforts to get together the proof Trump stole from me, the proof that would be needed by prosecutors when Trump came to trial. Vice President Mike Pence can handle Trump's job immediately. Trump is not an essential employee. He can be replaced easily.

I dunno. Sounds like you just don't like the guy because he doesn't agree with your politics.

You bet your ass you'd better redouble your efforts to find proof he did anything wrong, or else you'd be on the wrong end of a wrongful termination suit in the scenario you laid out.

Trump has made clear that he will not accept losing the 2020 election. If he loses, the Secret Service will escort him out of the White House and put him on a plane to either Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago, or Moscow -- it's Trump's choice. Then the prosecutors begin work on convicting Trump of tax evasion.

The Power of Petty Personal Rage
Hamburger paranoia, drinking straw police, and the state of the right.
www.nytimes.com/2019/03/11/opinion/captain-marvel-republican-rage.html

Demented anger is a significant factor in modern American political life — and overwhelmingly on one side. All that talk about liberal “snowflakes” is projection; if you really want to see people driven wild by tiny perceived slights and insults, you’ll generally find them on the right.

Just to be clear: I’m not saying that most conservatives are filled with rage over petty things. What I’m saying instead is that most of those filled with such rage are conservatives, and they supply much of the movement’s energy. Not to put too fine a point on it, pathological pettiness almost surely put Donald Trump over the top in the 2016 election.

We should realize what’s happening. It may be comforting to believe that politics is driven by more or less rational considerations of costs and benefits. But the reality is that a lot of it is driven by unreasoning rage.

You two prove that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is correct. She understands the rue/1kiki and 6ix type of American. Pelosi concluded that impeaching Trump would make everything worse. Too many Trump supporters are overly proud of themselves and their intellect and they won’t turn against Trump because that would be admitting voting for him was a mistake. Impeachment will only make them more stubborn, and governing more difficult. Who wants another government shutdown that accomplishes nothing? Trump does, that's who, if he is impeached.

Pelosi removed the rights tool for firing up the troops. No impeachment "he isn't worth it".

If Mueller's report sets it up or congress collects enough evidence to where republicans have to vote for impeachment, then Pelosi will start the wheels rolling quicker than you can say, get em. Until then congress will continue to gather the evidence.

The important thing is to get a democratic president into office. Then the indictments against Trump and his family can begin without concerns that they will be pardoned.

The shutdown lasted 35 days. "The GDP figure in 2018 was $20,500,600 million". Or, $20,501 billion. On an annual basis, the shutdown cost the economy about 0.05% GDP.

That wouldn't even make a minuscule dent in greenhouse gas emissions. dubya did a much better job.

In the corporate world, a multi-billion dollar blunder such as Trump committed by shutting down the government would get the CEO fired by the board of directors, after the board considers what action to take for about 5 minutes. But the U.S. government can't take swift action because it wasn't designed for it. The basic design is still the same half-ass arrangement that George Washington operated under. But if the government did get around to voting on the matter, it probably would fail to make a decision. It has failed twice in the past: President Andrew Johnson and President Clinton. There wasn't a good reason NOT to fire these guys, but it didn't happen. There were replacements standing ready to jump into the job of being President, but the Senate couldn't make a decision. If the Capitol building was on fire and the Senate had to vote before any Senator could leave the burning building, they would all be dead. If the Senate had a year to make the decision, they would still all be dead.

It shouldn’t take a special counsel to catch Trump cheating on his taxes.

From a policy standpoint, the single most important thing about former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s sentencing on Wednesday in federal court is an observation from his lawyers: He would never have even ended up charged under normal circumstances.

If Manafort had not gotten caught up in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, his lawyers argued to two different judges, he’d never been arrested or charged for white-collar crimes.

From a legal standpoint, the argument “and I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for you meddling special counsels” isn’t especially strong. Judge Amy Berman in Washington, DC, rejected it.

If Trump had lost the election, no special prosecutor would have been appointed, and Manafort’s various tax evasions and other frauds would have gone undetected.

But the problem isn’t the federal government punishing Manafort (or Trump) for tax cheating, it’s how rarely the perpetrators of tax cheating go to jail. They pay what they always owed and there is no prison time. But mostly they don't get caught and they pay nothing.

Judge strongly rebukes Manafort’s — and Trump’s — ‘no collusion’ refrain

Today, Manafort’s lawyer said, “Two courts have ruled no evidence of any collusion with any Russians.” The judge called the lawyer a liar.

Why did Manafort’s lawyer make an untrue claim?

The answer is that Donald Trump likes to pretend that people keep exonerating him in the Russia scandal. If Manafort’s defense team can align themselves with the president, perhaps Trump would give his former campaign chair a get-out-of-jail free card.

Whether or not this ploy will work is not yet clear – White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters this week that Trump will make a pardon decision “when he is ready” – but either way, Manafort’s lawyer is hardly being subtle.
