Or would you like me to add archives of all the times you told JSF to stop talking about Obama after Trump was elected to the collection of links below?

Fucking cultist hypocrite.

Focus on now: the Federal government is running smoothly. Couldn't say that when Trump was in charge. Every daily episode was another 16 hour long soap opera full of outrageous Trumptard incidents. Trump certainly was entertaining as a TV show but he did not know the calm and orderly way a government should run. The only time I remember things settling down were the days Trump was in the hospital with Covid-19. He was in no position to stir up chaos and disorder while on oxygen and drugs.

Maybe you might have heard about the US Constitution's guarantee of free speech? Or is it that you hate free speech and hate the US?

And btw, there's still not a single incitement to violence in Trump's speech.

1kiki, you're so funny I laughed! Trump’s team argued that his Jan. 6 speech inciting the insurrection was constitutionally protected and therefore not subject to an impeachment proceeding.

That’s ridiculous: Speech can be protected while still representing a threat to the constitutional order when coming from a president. Trump deliberately incited a violent effort to disrupt the constitutional processes governing the peaceful conclusion of a presidential election.

When the violence was in progress, he allowed it to continue for hours, ignoring entreaties that he call off the mob. Even if his exhortations were protected speech, they — along with the rest of his misconduct — are impeachable.

Trump’s team aired video showing numerous Democrats using the word “fight” in all kinds of contexts (which were almost never included). That was supposed to show Trump’s use of the word while inciting the insurrection was somehow analogous.

Trump’s efforts actually did incite the violent assault on the Capitol. Many rioters have confirmed this in their own words. As two researchers who closely examined the motives of the rioters recently concluded in the Atlantic:

The overwhelming reason for action, cited again and again in court documents, was that arrestees were following Trump’s orders to keep Congress from certifying Joe Biden as the presidential-election winner.

That completely destroys the fake equivalence Trump’s lawyers tried to draw (indeed, the whole point of the equivalence was to erase this glaring problem they face).

Trump’s team argued that because Trump used the word “peacefully” during his Jan. 6 harangue, he couldn’t possibly have intended the mob to get violent.

This is silly: It entirely sidesteps Trump’s well known use of mob-speak (as his own former fixer Michael Cohen has explained) to communicate his intentions while maintaining plausible deniability for them. It also elides just how reckless it was for Trump to drive the enraged mob toward the Capitol, when he surely knew what the result almost certainly would be.

Indeed, Trump himself had gone to great lengths to bring about that result, and Trump’s lawyers sidestepped this, too. He spent weeks telling his supporters (in the form of the stolen-election lie) that they were the victims of a monstrous injustice that they could only rectify by taking matters into their own hands (they were justified in using “very different rules,” as he put it), or their country would perish.

There is simply no question that Trump knew exactly how this might turn out. Not only that, Trump refused to call off the mob for hours after the violence started, which is strange behavior if he intended it to be peaceful. Which leads to...

Trump’s team argued he couldn’t have possibly incited the riot because some of the insurrectionists preplanned the assault. Trump’s lawyers showed a bunch of evidence designed to demonstrate this.

But it’s an absurd argument. It entirely erases from the story all of the public statements Trump made in the run-up to Jan. 6th.

The entire “Stop the Steal” movement, which culminated in Trump supporters from all over the country converging on the Capitol — leading to the assault — was relentlessly promoted by Trump’s propagandists and supporters, including Trump himself.

Here’s a partial sampling of Trump statements, culled from this Just Security timeline and this New York Times rundown:

Dec. 19: Trump tweets: “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th … Be there, will be wild!”

Dec. 27: Trump tweets: “See you in Washington, DC, on January 6th. Don’t miss it. Information to follow.”

Dec. 30: Trump tweets: “JANUARY SIXTH, SEE YOU IN DC!”

Jan. 1: Trump tweets: “The BIG Protest Rally in Washington, D.C. will take place at 11:00 A.M. on January 6th. Locational details to follow. StopTheSteal!”

Jan. 3: Trump tweets a response to a supporter: “I will be there. Historic day!”

This doesn’t even include the many times Trump urged Republicans to subvert the results in Congress during the Jan. 6 count, which blared out to supporters that this was their last chance at a final apocalyptic showdown. Nor does it include the many times Trump’s propagandists and supporters also promoted the Jan. 6 last stand in similarly lurid and urgent terms.

The last argument is particularly troubling. It shows Trump’s team feels no obligation to engage in any remotely serious way with the mountains of evidence that have piled up from the weeks leading up to the attack. Instead, they just keep robotically repeating that the speech on Jan. 6 alone couldn’t have possibly incited the attack. All those weeks are simply being erased.

Yet despite the obvious hollowness of such arguments, virtually all GOP senators, perhaps with at most a few exceptions, will vote to acquit him. That they will not be even remotely troubled by the utter failure to engage with that entire backstory only confirms how firmly the fix is in.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

The Supreme Court's Brandenburg test for 'incitement':

Quote:

In a landmark judgment, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the (Brandenburg) conviction, contending that the Ohio law affronted Brandenburg’s freedom of speech, protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Instead, the Court held: “Freedoms of speech and press do not permit a State to forbid advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.” Because the (Brandenburg) rally was not obviously intended to incite specific acts of violence, and because it was not likely to do so, government restriction of Brandenburg’s speech was unconstitutional.
PEACEFULLY AND PATRIOTICALLY don't sound like exhortations to IMMINENT violence - do they?

TRUMP'S STATEMENT REGARDING ACQUITTAL

Quote:

I want to first thank my team of dedicated lawyers and others for their tireless work upholding justice and defending truth.

My deepest thanks as well to all of the United States Senators and Members of Congress who stood proudly for the Constitution we all revere and for the sacred legal principles at the heart of our country.

Our cherished Constitutional Republic was founded on the impartial rule of law, the indispensable safeguard for our liberties, our rights and our freedoms.

It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree. I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.

This has been yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our Country. No president has ever gone through anything like it, and it continues because our opponents cannot forget the almost 75 million people, the highest number ever for a sitting president, who voted for us just a few short months ago.

I also want to convey my gratitude to the millions of decent, hardworking, law-abiding, God-and-Country loving citizens who have bravely supported these important principles in these very difficult and challenging times.

Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun. In the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it!

We have so much work ahead of us, and soon we will emerge with a vision for a bright, radiant, and limitless American future.

Together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

We remain one People, one family, and one glorious nation under God, and it’s our responsibility to preserve this magnificent inheritance for our children and for generations of Americans to come.

May God bless all of you, and may God forever bless the United States of America.

It was both good and terrible to watch McConnell’s post-verdict speech in which he excoriated Trump – but said he had voted to acquit because the trial was unconstitutional.

It was telling that many of the 43 Republicans who voted to acquit felt the need to hang their hats on the constitutionality argument, which was rejected by constitutional scholars and twice by the Senate itself.

Not even Trump’s lawyers attempted to claim he won an election he actually lost by more than 7 million popular votes and 74 electoral votes.

Nor did Trump’s legal team, led by a personal injury lawyer and a former county prosecutor who declined to pursue charges against Bill Cosby, succeed in freeing Trump from blame for the attack on the Capitol, judging by Republican senators’ speeches.

Instead, Trump’s lawyers denied a copious and unambiguous record of what the former president said and did, while drawing false parallels between routine political speech and Trump’s coup attempt.

I think THUGR was assuming that Trump would be impeached and convicted, and (maybe) even run out of office in a rail. not that he would be impeached and acquitted.

Because if "impeachment" was the actual threshold, HE would have declared success a long time ago!

And JO, whatever happened to "innocent until proven gulity"? Don't tell me that YOU'RE ready to ditch our Constitution because it protects people you don't like!

Or are you just a fair-weather patriot?

For this 2nd impeachment, the dumass GoPs depended on a teknicality, and a misinterpretted teknikality at that, AND a tekniknikality they created at that, to justify not convicting.

If you really think such a flimzy and transparent excuse counts az exoneration, you are either really stoopid or part uv the crime that iz the entire Trump saga.

But really, all uv us here no the truth. I dont need to state it.

The only mystery for me iz wy the GoP leaderz didnt dump Trump wen they had the chans. Both timez. Especially this time.I see no advantaj that duznt evaporate befor it can do them any good.

The question you need you answer for yourself JO, is why does Trump have so many followers and so many voters? Is an entire swathe of the country comprised of many tens of millions of people of all economic levels, all education backgrounds, all(or both) sexes, all IQ levels, etc so boneheadedly stupid as you think (because, ya' know - you're smarter than everybody)? Or is Trump saying something the other 2 main parties aren't saying? Does he represent, however imperfectly, something other than the status quo?

57% of Senators said Trump was guilty. McConnell, who voted not guilty, said Trump was guilty but after 11:59AM on Jan 20th McConnell felt it would be unconstitutional to convict Trump. 58% of Americans say Trump should have been convicted in his second impeachment trial.

Former CIA Officer Says He Left Democratic Party Because of Impeachment
By Jack Phillips
February 10, 2021 Updated: February 11, 2021

A former CIA officer wrote that he left the Democratic Party due to the second impeachment of former President Donald Trump, saying that it only serves to exacerbate the political divide.

“For years, Democrats like me have watched with increasing alarm as our own political leaders and activists … have used an endless stream of hateful, violent and ultimately un-American rhetoric that has resulted in billions of dollars in economic damage and given birth to a violent national movement,” wrote Bryan Dean Wright, the former intelligence officer, for the Daily Caller.

Wright said the “modern Left” is infused with “systemic hatred” that has “inflamed profound political divisions and the predictable outcomes that come with them, most especially violence and destruction.”

“The most egregious example came in the summer of 2020, with Leftist race riots that cost upwards of $2 billion in damages,” he said, adding that Democratic leaders didn’t offer condemnations when “fires raged,” property was vandalized, and lives were destroyed.

Wright pointed out that democratically elected officials incited violence in 2020.

“A woman in New York City threw a Molotov cocktail at four police officers sitting in their vehicle during a riot” and “were unharmed only because the gas bomb failed to ignite,” he said.

“Next, a group of rioters in Seattle tried to seal up the doors of a police precinct and ignite the building on fire, burning cops alive.

“In all, over 700 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers sustained injuries in violence perpetrated by Leftist rioters. That includes retired St. Louis police Captain David Dorn, who died defending the city he loved from those encouraged by the Democrat Party’s incitement.”

Wright went on to cite rhetoric from mainstream media pundits such as CNN’s Chris Cuomo, who told viewers last year, “Show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful,” and NPR’s statement that “looting is a powerful tool to bring about real, lasting change in society.”

Such statements, he argued, served to gaslight people into committing acts of violence. At the same time, he suggested that it’s hypocritical to impeach Trump for allegedly inciting an insurrection when Democratic leaders and left-leaning media outlets emboldened rioters and anarchists last year.

House Democrats have argued that Trump’s speech incited supporters on Jan. 6 to carry out the Capitol breach, which left several people—including an officer—dead.

“For Democrats like me, we have no choice: we have to leave. But where do we go, politically, now that our party can no longer be salvaged? The answer is to be found in the exit data from the 2020 election: We’re already leaving, it turns out, and joining the new, populist Republican Party,” he said.

For the Democrats, this is the best possible result. Trump can run for President, again, displacing smarter candidates such as Ted Cruz, which is good for Democrats. Every voter who isn't a Trumptard knows Trump is guilty, which is good for Democrats. I'm sure Trump will get fewer votes from Independents next time than this time, which is good for Democrats. Then there is the chaos and stupidity Trump will spread within the GOP, which is good for Democrats. When the election audit that 1kiki and Signym want shows Trump lost, that is good for Democrats.

Trump rips McConnell in lengthy statement after McConnell acquitted Trump in impeachment trial. The two worked closely together during the former President's four years in office.

"Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again," Trump said in the statement. "He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First."

Trump's call for compassionate leadership came in a petty statement full of ad hominem attacks, including a jab at McConnell's family.

Trump asserted Tuesday that McConnell's shortcomings had contributed to the party's loss of the Senate majority.

The clash between the current and former GOP leaders comes as the Republican Party at large grapples with warring factions at odds over whether to continue in Trump's likeness or forge a path veering from the former President's legacy.

McConnell has repeatedly rebuked Trump's incitement of the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol, though he voted to acquit the former President of the charge. In remarks on the Senate floor shortly after Trump was cleared in a 57-43 vote, McConnell suggested that the former President could be subject to criminal prosecution.

"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility," McConnell wrote Monday in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal of the riot. "His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world's largest megaphone. His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

Since 6ix needs pointers, it's bad for the GOP's future that Trump is attacking its most successful politician who won reelection for 6 years at the same time as Trump lost and two Georgia Senators lost because of Trump's chaotic "help" in a runoff election.

That is not how politics works. If you get rid of the winners, such as McConnell, and replace them with candidates Trump likes, the GOP will lose elections. Does it need explaining that the Democrats will take the seats lost because Trump's handpicked candidates stink to high heaven? I look forward to Trump "helping" in many GOP elections. Luckily for the Democrats, Trump couldn't "help" if he had been convicted.

What happened in this trial was that Trumptards had preformulated ideas or judgments. And then whatever facts were presented to them, they found a way to send those facts outside of the frame. Trumptards are very good at that.

Trump is not a problem for someone like me. Me and my money are on the same side as his money is on. The problem is the millions of Trumptards who aren't rich. You can't have a well functioning nation when the poor Trumptard third of the population think they are smart, brave, hardworking, etc., especially when they don't actually have in sufficient quantities the qualities they keep bragging about. Since Trumptards can't see Trump for what a incompetent executive he is, it is unlikely they will look carefully in the mirror and see how incompetent and goofy they are and realize that Trumptards need to straighten up and act more like the people they are in their imagination.

There is nothing uniquely wrong with Trump, other than he cheats the Federal government out of $billions in tax payments rather than mere $millions. And there is his disorganized and chaotic management style. Did I mention he lies often and committed insurrection? A much larger wrong is that Trumptards don't see how goofy and loony Trump is.

There are a many things Trumptards don't see besides Trump deserving the punishment for insurrection. For a huge example that made it into today's national news: "Texas grid fails to weatherize, repeats mistake feds cited 10 years ago"
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/energy/article/Texas-grid-ag
ain-faces-scrutiny-over-cold-15955392.php

The Texas electric grid failed because the Trumptards running Texas don't see problems until these become crises. The grid is a problem. Trump is problem. There are smaller problems that don't get fixed until too late because Trumptards are in charge. Here is one:

City of Baytown - Government
We regret to share that water service will not be restored tonight. We will have a better understanding of the situation tomorrow. We look forward to resolving this issue and apologize for the inconvenience.
https://www.facebook.com/BaytownCityHall/photos/a.941059469244686/4404
330049584260
/

It is a simple problem of not winterizing or heat-tracing small diameter tubing at the water-treatment plant. The result is no water for ALL of Baytown, despite there being electricity from emergency generators to run the water pumps and filters and chemical dispensers. The Trumptards of Texas did not see a need to winterize the water treatment plant because it doesn't get below freezing often in Baytown. But then again the Trumptards didn't see a need to punish Trump because Presidential elections don't happen that often.

Funny how Trumptards didn't react to riots and killings inside the Capitol Building. That never happens. I wonder what is wrong with Trumptards? Something bad has got a grip on the Trumptards' brains. Trumptard obstinacy and obtuseness at a water plant is a problem for everyone in Baytown. Trumptard obstinacy at the state level is a problem for every electric user in Texas. Trumptard obstinacy and obtuseness about Trump is a national problem. Trumptards make problems where there would be none.

The second impeachment trial, in which 57 senators voted to convict, demonstrated Congress's own desire to hold Trump accountable. Republicans who saved Trump from the two-thirds vote required for conviction stood on their claims that the Senate should not try former office holders. Afterwards Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made clear he didn't consider Trump exactly innocent. "Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day."

This Trumptard, once Texas governor then Trump's Secretary of Energy, is an idiot if he believes what he said today about power blackouts. He was 1,000 times bigger pain in my ass than Trump was, but Gov Perry was never entertaining as loony Trump could be:

Former Texas governor Rick Perry suggests that going days without power is a sacrifice Texans should be willing to make if it means keeping federal regulators out of the state’s power grid.

In a blog posted on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's website, Perry is quoted responding to the claim that “those watching on the left may see the situation in Texas as an opportunity to expand their top-down, radical proposals.”

“Texans would be without electricity for longer than three days to keep the federal government out of their business,” Perry is quoted as saying. “Try not to let whatever the crisis of the day is take your eye off of having a resilient grid that keeps America safe personally, economically, and strategically.”

Texas’s power grid, run by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, occupies a unique distinction in the United States in that it does not cross state lines and thus is not under the oversight of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

That has long been a point of pride with Texas politicians who in the 2000s chose to deregulate the state's power market and allow power companies, not state regulators, determine when and how to build and maintain power plants.

That system has fallen under scrutiny in recent days as millions of Texans are left without power following an unusual cold snap. Following a near identical episode a decade ago, federal regulators warned Texas it needed to take steps to better insulate its power plants.

But there is little indication that happened, prompting criticism of ERCOT from Texas Republicans and Democrats alike.

Perry, former president Donald Trump's energy secretary, however, blamed the rolling blackouts on the rise of wind and solar energy in Texas.

“If wind and solar is where we’re headed, the last 48 hours ought to give everybody a real pause and go wait a minute,” Perry said. “We need to have a baseload. And the only way you can get a baseload in this country is [with] natural gas, coal, and nuclear.”

That argument has been made by numerous conservatives in the midst of the blackouts. But it does not line up with early reports indicating the majority of the lost generation was natural gas plants not wind turbines, which actually performed better than grid regulators had anticipated, said Michael Webber an energy professor at the University of Texas.

After 4 years as Trump's Energy Secretary, Rick Perry knows nothing about Energy. Not knowing but thinking wrongly they know is a defining characteristic of Trumptards. It is why they screw-up on the job without being aware of it.

Trump attorney rips off mic after questioning from CBS News anchor.
Besides Trump, he also represented a man who claimed to have been served a fried rat at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. What an idiot a lawyer would have to be to take the rat case: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/critter-fritter/

I already posted about this at 1:03AM this morning.

You or CBSN are late on the pickup.

Lana Zak should be fired.

McConnell’s decision to speak forcefully against Trump immediately after his vote to acquit was the only way that McConnell could guarantee his position at the center of the debate over both the policy and political approaches that the GOP will take in the coming years. If McConnell had voted to convict, he would have faced a leadership challenge or outright removal from his role as Republican leader.

McConnell has positioned himself as the de facto leader of the effort to push back against Trump's preferred congressional candidates -- in particular, those who he does not see as viable general election candidates in 2022.

McConnell's role as party leader enables him to direct the considerable campaign finance and infrastructure resources of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) to support candidates he sees as more viable. It also allows him to exert more influence via outside conservative SuperPACs like American Crossroads and the Senate Leadership Fund, both of which take guidance from the Senate Republican leader.

More broadly, McConnell likely believes that his recent impeachment-acquittal two-step was the only way to keep power and rid the Republican Party of Trump's influence for good -- ahead of the 2022 midterms and next presidential election in 2024.
