Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Trump is terrible. If only the democrats weren't worse, maybe I'd vote for a democrat again.

You got no idea, brother. It probably gets said 10 times as much as it was ever said about Obama. We just know better than to say it out loud most of the time.

It's the one single biggest reason why Hillary lost so bad in 2016 and why none of the current poles are anywhere near objective reality in 2019.

I gotta give it to the MAGA people, they really stick to a slogan no matter what..."but Obama." The country could be going down in flames..."but Obama never had flames like these."

Not saying it "out loud" doesn't change a thing, it's still wrong-headed. IMHO.

I have no idea what you mean by "single biggest reason" why she lost so bad.

True that, polls can definitely be wrong.

You'll probably notice that I never used to say MAGA. That's a recent thing.

It's more push back against Democrats and the Legacy Media than anything else.

Democrats had made it loud and clear that their new vision of government "wasn't made for me", just like most of their movies that have been failing miserably recently.

Hillary jumped on board that train and insulted half of the country, convinced by all of her yes men (and yes women) around her, by the extremely flawed polls and by the Legacy Media that she was right and that there was no way she could lose.

But nobody learned any lessons from that since. I have to hear all the time online from people who finished college but can't even tie their own shoes without consulting their smart phones first how stupid and uneducated I am because I didn't get that piece of paper.

That's fine. We'll see who's laughing (again) in November of 2020.

I'm just hoping that they can keep giving Ginsburg the Weekend At Bernie's treatment until then. That would be a freebie issue given to Democrats and could possibly be enough to win back some moderates who have half a brain and are thinking about the bigger picture instead of needing immediate satisfaction for their feels.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

America, the land of the free

Quote:

I learned a long time ago that you are who you are. So yeah, no MAGA until now.

Quote:

It's more push back against Democrats and the Legacy Media than anything else.

Six, you must do whatever to survive in these times, I get that. You believe as you do and I'm not going to argue the point because you believe it so
strongly. I know people that think the opposite way so strongly that I don't bother talking to them about politics or religion.

Quote:

Democrats had made it loud and clear that their new vision of government "wasn't made for me", just like most of their movies that have been failing miserably recently.

Here's a prime example. This "conspiracy" exists based upon what exactly? Here's what I have learned over the years: there is a system that exists
aimed at anyone/everyone to keep the status quo (the way things are) in place. The stock market crash in 1929, was part of an experiment that was the impetus
for that type of "control." I remember watching the Johnny Carson show and these celebs would come on; Johnny would ask them, "what's the secret to your success?" Their answer would always be: "Keep dreaming, work hard and never take No for an answer."

I always wondered why they didn't actually say what "it" was that got them over the hump. They would never actually share that secret. Why am I saying all this? What does this lame story have to do with any of this? It's all bullshit Six. Sorry to say, it's all bullshit. Someone tells you: the odds are stacked against you. They give you some cockamamie story, that seems logical
and you think that they understand you, because they're "relating" and offer
up your life story as proof. So you say: they're speaking truth. Nobody cares about you, but "they" do. It's the old "gang" story: Fuck society, they tossed you aside, you're garbage to them. They offer up a handful of near-enough relatable stories, and away we go.

They are close enough to "your" reality that you question yourself. Sure, question everything, but understand fully before you commit. It's not easy turning back the clock. I'm not trying to change you, or what you believe.
That is up to you. What I am saying is that this belief can prove to be dangerous. If enough people believe this way, it could alter drastically the course of our history. Now, mind you, change can be a good thing. Revolution
comes in many forms. This country is no exception to the rule of survival of the fittest. It's had violent beginnings and, after 240 years, will probably
continue along that path.

My question is: who wants that revolution, and why? I love this country, and all the good people in it. We were once a strong nation, a mixture of people and cultures that benefited from the union of those different cultures and peoples. This land once belonged to a proud people that became to be known as
Native Americans. They lived the land for thousands of years. The early European settlers were welcomed with open arms, and helped to survive the brutal winters, all in harmony. And now they're being told to go back where they come from. They and others who were asked to come and become as one, immigrants who embraced the same freedoms we all cherish. Now that the country has been built and prospered, now "we don't have room."

Quote:

Hillary jumped on board that train and insulted half of the country, convinced by all of her yes men (and yes women) around her, by the extremely flawed polls and by the Legacy Media that she was right and that there was no way she could lose.

Yes, she fucked up. She arrogantly assumed that her place was guaranteed.
I'm not even going to argue the point. Too much to unpack. So, I'll give you that one.

Quote:

But nobody learned any lessons from that since. I have to hear all the time online from people who finished college but can't even tie their own shoes without consulting their smart phones first how stupid and uneducated I am because I didn't get that piece of paper.

I wouldn't say that no lessons were learned, but, for the most part, dumb things have been repeated. The Dems, no matter how much book-learning they
have accumulated, still have much to learn. I could tell you some things about "smart" people who think they know everything. I once had a job where they
measured, poked and prodded at my section, my area and thought they could
improve efficiency. They fucked up so badly that they had to do it twice. They
gave their money away rather than pay the workers a decent wage and ask for
their expertise of their own area. Fuck "em, they deserve to get taken advantage of.

So you think the solution is "fuck all those who want what I have. The ones who come here "illegally." The people who once were proud warriors and were tossed aside by a historic movement. A revolution. To the victors, goes the spoils. These people became unwilling slaves. And now we face a new "wave" of
revolution seekers, looking to make history by wiping out all who don't look and think like "them." People who came from other lands, here to America.
Remember who's calling the shots. Someone somewhere is looking to take advantage of those "spoils." Be careful what you wish for and who controls that wish. You may wind up an "unwilling slave."

Quote:

That's fine. We'll see who's laughing (again) in November of 2020.

Who would benefit most from that situation? Is America as strong as it think it is? If you get "your" wish and all the "illegals" were gone. Deported.
What do you think happens to the nation? Who would you answer to then?
Would America still be a sovereign nation, strong and independent?

Quote:

I'm just hoping that they can keep giving Ginsburg the Weekend At Bernie's treatment until then. That would be a freebie issue given to Democrats and could possibly be enough to win back some moderates who have half a brain and are thinking about the bigger picture instead of needing immediate satisfaction for their feels.

I have no clue what you're talking about. I'm guessing it's about the 2020 elections and how you're gonna sweep back into the White House. When and if that happens, the Rule of Law will be dead. Then you get Donald the Dicktator.
President for Life. Goodbye freedoms. No more freedom of speech, no more guns (except for those who back Trump), no more freedom of religion. You'll finally get the one "state-controlled" media that will only tell you "his" truth.
Talk about "fake" news. This is the future with your fearless leader.

Well, good luck with that.

MAGA 2020.

For nearly three years, President Trump has spun an alternate reality in which he was not helped and tainted by Russia during the 2016 Presidential campaign but, rather, his political opponents and his accusers were. During a rambling fifty-three-minute live phone interview with “Fox & Friends” on Friday, Trump insisted again that the plot to block his election and bring him down once he was installed in the White House was “perhaps the biggest scandal in the history of our country.”

On Tuesday, two of the President’s most prolific accusers plan to disrupt the narrative by telling their own story. Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, the co-founders of the Washington-based private-investigative firm Fusion GPS, which has mined deep veins of muck on Trump for years, at the behest of his various political enemies, will try to throw the book at Trump with the publication of “Crime in Progress: Inside the Steele Dossier and the Fusion GPS Investigation of Donald Trump.”

Fusion was the firm that hired the former British spy Christopher Steele to research Trump’s ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign. After nearly three years without a word from Steele, while the so-called pee tape and his other sensational findings sparked furious controversy, the former M.I.6 spy speaks directly and on the record about his own part for the first time in the book, an advance copy of which was given to The New Yorker.

Whether Simpson and Fritsch’s score-settling, tell-all account will change any minds remains to be seen, but they present a mountain of evidence that Trump’s dealings with corrupt foreign players—particularly those from the former Soviet Union—are both real and go back decades.

Trump spent the entire campaign denying he had borrowed money from Russians. But he had, which is why he keeps his tax returns secret so that those can't be used as proof. Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, who served for years, pleaded guilty in November 2018 to lying to Congress about the Trump real estate project in Russia and the extent of the president’s involvement in and knowledge of that deal. It would be Trump in prison, except his lawyer fell instead.

Boomers tell the younger Americans they can't have a raise and those youngsters just passively, and bitterly, accept it. But you should know the Boomers' secret: they can easily afford to double your wages, but they won't because you are stupid enough to accept what little the Boomers feel like offering. D.C. Circuit sets back-to-back impeachment-linked cases for Jan. 3

Jan. 3 is lining up to be the Super Bowl of court dates in the House’s impeachment-driven battle to learn Robert Mueller’s secrets.

A three-judge federal appeals court panel announced Wednesday it will hear oral arguments on that date over the Justice Department’s quest to cloak former White House counsel Don McGahn with absolute immunity against having to testify in the ongoing inquiry into impeachment President Donald Trump.

The fast-track schedule creates a tag-team match of sorts for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, since another key impeachment-related court fight — an attempt to obtain grand jury secrets in special counsel Mueller’s final report — was already scheduled to be heard on the same Friday just after the New Year.

Same article:

Quote:

The Democratic-led House won both cases in front of District Court judges, but is now trying to fend off efforts by the Justice Department to overturn those decisions. Both panels could be relatively friendly to the administration since Republican appointees outnumber Democratic judges, 2-1, even though the active bench of the court leans the other way, 7-4.

While the cases are moving at a rapid pace for the federal courts, it’s still not clear whether they will result in the House getting any of the information it is seeking before it votes on whether to advance articles of impeachment to the Senate. That could happen before Christmas and House leaders have said they are not inclined to wait on the courts.

That article ended: “Trump could not get money here. He found Russia, and the Russians gave him a lot of money. He has got to be doing a quid pro quo. It’s just logical. It’s just too much money.” The Mueller Report did NOT look into money. Mueller didn't subpoena Trump's tax returns. Congress did, but did NOT receive the tax returns. Trump promised to reveal those returns to the American Public, not just to Congress, while he was a candidate. But while President, Trump made all 73 years of his tax returns a Top Secret. He keeps losing the court cases for secrecy, but he keeps refusing to do what he promised to do before the 2016 Election.

The Mueller Report did NOT look into money.
Really???

2) Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, was indicted on a total of 25 different counts by Mueller’s team, related mainly to his past work for Ukrainian politicians and his finances. He had two trials scheduled, and the first ended in a conviction on eight counts of financial crimes. To avert the second trial, Manafort struck a plea deal with Mueller in September 2018 (though Mueller’s team said in November that he breached that agreement by lying to them). He was sentenced to a combined seven and a half years in prison.

3) Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign aide and Manafort’s longtime junior business partner, was indicted on similar charges to Manafort. But in February 2018 he agreed to a plea deal with Mueller’s team, pleading guilty to just one false statements charge and one conspiracy charge.

Trump adviser Flynn paid by multiple Russia-related entities

36) Michael Cohen: In August 2018, Trump’s former lawyer pleaded guilty to 8 counts — tax and bank charges, related to his finances and taxi business, and campaign finance violations — related to hush money payments to women who alleged affairs with Donald Trump, as part of a separate investigation in New York (that Mueller had handed off).

Jeeze, why do you lie so often and so badly?

What swimming in my underwear taught me about Donald Trump and getting away with it

Michael J. Stern, Opinion columnist

Last month I swam laps at a public health club in my underwear. I forgot my bathing suit and was damned if I was going to spend an hour walking home and back to get it. As I approached the pool, the horrified stares from two older women in the whirlpool made my humiliation feel as though I’d accidentally taken a double dose of my daily “skin on fire” niacin. But as a litigator, I’ve learned to watch my case circle the drain and not flinch. And so I shot the women a look that said “You perverts, haven’t you ever seen a man in a Fruit of the Loom bathing suit?”

With each lap, I expected a pool skimmer to hit me on the head before security dragged me out of the pool. But it never happened. And so instead of making a beeline to the locker room when I was done swimming, I was emboldened. I smiled at the same ladies as I joined them in the whirlpool. By this time, their shock had subsided and their expectations recalibrated. They didn’t raise an eyebrow as they shared a hot bath with a stranger in his underwear.

As I walked home it occurred to me: That’s how President Donald Trump gets away with it.

Trump has desensitized his political base to his corruption by serving them more corruption. Something can only remain shocking for so long. Eventually the “unprecedented” becomes routine.

But it’s more than that. Legitimate allegations against the president are met with fake indignation and theatrical counterattacks: To undermine the FBI’s Russia investigation, Trump ordered a probe to “investigate the investigators.” In response to a whistleblower complaint disclosing Trump’s efforts to bribe Ukraine into manufacturing dirt on 2020 presidential rival Joe Biden, Trump has all but placed a bounty on the head of the civil servant who revealed the president’s scheme. And Trump’s attacks on the late Sen. John McCain lasted beyond the grave. Seven months after McCain’s death, Trump falsely claimed McCain had peddled “fake" news to the media and was “last in his class” at his military academy.

Whether it is intuitive self-preservation or narcissistic calculation, it works. Roughly 40% of the American public accepts Trump’s explanation for the clown car of horrors he has wrought on American politics since he loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly . . . I mean had his servants pack his limousine and moved to the White House.

Trump didn't do that. The Legacy Media did that, every single day for over three years now.

Just one more prediction that I made, very early in his Presidency, which might have already come true.

The Democrats themselves aren't helping matters either with their impeachment over nothing. They blew their load way too early and chose the entirely wrong hill to die on. This is one of the single biggest mistakes that the party as a whole has made, at least in my lifetime.

What is the statute of limitations on potential charges against Trump?

One of the more eye-opening aspects of former special counsel Robert Mueller's testimony on Russian meddling in the 2016 election was Mueller's indication that President Trump could face charges once he leaves office. Mueller testified several times during questioning Wednesday that Mr. Trump could theoretically be charged once he returns to life as a private citizen, though current Justice Department guidelines say a sitting president can't be indicted.

At one point Wednesday, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler asked Mueller: "Under Department of Justice policy, the president could be prosecuted for obstruction of justice crimes after he leaves office — is this correct?"
"True," Mueller answered.

There are 10 obstruction charges waiting for Trump when he leaves office. With those come documents; testimony revealing the destruction of documents. I will particularly enjoy Trump being subpoenaed and being forced to testify.

There are also 17 independent investigations taking place as we speak. And the bill on those is coming due. Perhaps best of all is the countless lies some of you have posted here in defense of Trump that you will be held accountable for. And the absolute stupidly of what you've posted being revealed as just that; stupid.

Worse, there is REAL corruption in the Biden's dealings with Ukraine (as opposed to the phantasmic fever dreams about Trump and Russia) and if the House votes to impeach and this goes to the Senate, this will come out. Maybe this was the wrong hill for which to commit suicide.

I wonder if the House will vote censure rather than impeachment, or if they've become such a pack of baying dogs they can't see the potential trap.

An institutional setup where the president needs 60 senate votes to pass a law, 50 senate votes to confirm an ambassador to Peru, but only 34 senate votes to enjoy impunity for law-breaking seems flawed.

Almost everywhere it has been implemented, the Madisonian system has ultimately failed, ending in presidential autocracy. All of the tools are now in place for the US to fail as well. If Trump doesn’t succeed in a second term, then the Sulla or Caesar who ends our republican experiment is alive now and has learned the necessary lessons. All that is missing is their competent and strategic implementation.

The bottom line is: provided a President has 34 Senators and a majority of the Supreme Court who will back him, he can do anything he wants. And I’m not even sure the Supreme Court majority is necessary. If Trump were to defy the Supreme Court about, e.g., his tax returns, who exactly is going to force him to obey? The voters? Perhaps not.

Conservative columnist Rich Lowry has flat-out stated, in essence, that he would prefer a Trump who tramples on the Constitution but appoints judges who will outlaw abortion to a presidential candidate who believes in the rule of law. Which makes the point that “If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”

While winning in 2020 is essential, simply going back to “normal” isn’t going to do the trick. The Constitutional fabric of a President being constrained by the law has been rent. Shoring up and repairing the weak points via updating the Constitution about things like the Presidential veto, emergency powers, appointments to legislative bureaucracies, lame duck sessions of Congress, gerrymandering, and the right to vote are all necessary, even if they appear to be a superhuman lift.

First you were whining about the Electoral College. Now you're whining about how many Senate votes it takes to convict and remove a President (among other things). "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments…[but] no person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present" (Article I, section 3).

You really dislike the US Constitution, don't you?

You know, if you dislike it so much, why don't you go live somewhere else that's constructed more to your liking?

I didn't like the Vietnam War, either. But I didn't move to North Vietnam. Instead I joined the US Army. Then when I got a close and very personal look at how Richard Nixon was fighting it, I really, really did not like it: an enormous Republican engineered fiasco that the voters back in my Texas supported to the bitter end.

When it came time to write out the articles of impeachment, Nixon's war strategy almost became one article. But the House of Representatives was happy to keep the impeachment focused on a third-rate burglary that didn't actually steal anything, a burglary where Richard Nixon was not even at the Watergate on the night of the burglary attempt.

What the House of Representatives never knew is that Nixon, before he was elected, used his influence to keep the War going so that he would have the best possible situation to be elected and then, four years later, reelected: "When Candidate Nixon Conspired With a Foreign Power to Win An Election"

It took decades to unravel Nixon’s sabotage of Vietnam peace talks. Now, the full story can be told.

I really love-love-love Nixon and all those wonderful people back in Texas who supported the Vietnam War without ever understanding why we lost: the War's unstated purpose was to keep Nixon in the White House. Very successfully, the War did -- anti-war candidate George McGovern was crushed by the huge number of Nixon's war supporters/voters who were in true love with war. Unfortunately, there was that third-rate burglary at the Watergate which messed up a perfectly workable plan. If only the burglars had not been caught by the Security guard, Nixon would have not resigned. "THIS DAY IN HISTORY: JUNE 17 1972 Watergate burglars arrested"

Yup. This is a terrible thing for the Democrats in general.

Not only is Trump going to walk away from it unscathed, but it helps to assure that he gets reelected in 2020 and might have some unintended other backfirings as well.

Nancy Pelosi made a terrible mistake when she let Trump push her into officially going forward with it.

I've noticed that Trump defenders cannot understand the subtleties of Nixon's wrong doing. Maybe that is why Trump defenders cannot understand what Trump did wrong? You are way over thinking this second. Giving to much credit to your antagonisers. Even when the evidence shows Joe Biden did nothing wrong the trolls here refuse to accept any of it.

Even when Clinton is cleared of any wrongdoing pertaining to Benghazi. After many different investigations, they won't accept her innocence.

They know the difference between right and wrong. It just matters to them what side is being accused before they'll determine guilt or innocence. Or what Putin' agenda is, America bad; so they can formulate their opinions based on that. Then to others it's simply about supporting their white supremacist clan leader.

Totally, T. There's very little actual thinking going on for defenders of Trump. Mostly just variations on, "No he didn't," to outright fabrications they hope will stick (anything Gaetz and Nunes cook up), or repeats of "What about Clinton, Obama, Deep State..." plus being overly defensive, name calling, all of it over and over. There's really nothing you can appeal to intelligence-wise that will make them see the light since they don't give a sh*t about the light. I'm guessing they know Trump is a lying sack of sh*t who cheats all the time and is starting to loose his mind. They just hate the boogey man even more (Dems, libs, anyone who might be getting more than they feel they are entitled to), or just having a rooting interest other than the US.

You are telling me that Trump voters do NOT understand the rule of law, that the rules are the same for everybody. I noticed that among my employees. The Trump lovers think they are somebody extra-special but they are really a bunch of bastards: mean as hell to the employees who don't support Trump. The Confederates had the same behavior pattern: mean as hell to slaves and abolitionists, puffed up with pride in themselves, but no believable reasons to be so proud. They are just ordinary people with a superiority complex or grandiose delusions.
