Hey Jack - I guess we X-posted! This was to Signy, posted before your expl came up.

I have one quick comment off the top of my head - before I think about I too deeply - "1. I need to shorten the float and get the pump lower into the well so it goes off earlier and stays on until the level gets lower before shutting off without going too low as to make the pump suck in air." Is your pump submerged or above the well? Submerged pumps might rely on water for cooling, so if submerged, you probably shouldn't allow the water level to expose it.

You keep posting this over and over again in a thread. So, here it is again.

Some old and dead electronics taken in to be recycled today.

3 windchimes hung up. Indoors.

But I did drop some ice cream on the floor. :(. Cleaned that up and had to get some more out of the freezer.

Tonight, Trump moves to Florida to avoid being caught cheating on his 2020 New York state income tax. Reelect a crook for President:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump tweeted
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House, is the place I have come to love and will stay for, hopefully, another 5 years as we MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, but my family and I will be making Palm Beach, Florida, our Permanent Residence. I cherish New York, and the people of New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state. Few have been treated worse. I hated having to make this decision, but in the end it will be best for all concerned. As President, I will always be there to help New York and the great people of New York. It will always have a special place in my heart!

If that were true, one would think that he was just going to get caught cheating on his Florida income taxes in 2020.

I assume you mean his 2019 income taxes that are paid in 2020?

If that's the case, New York will still have an opportunity to at least look over part of them.

For a business owner, you seem to be pretty clueless about how taxes work. You must have one hell of an accountant.

I laugh every time jack kiki and sig correct peoples grammar and spelling. Especially jack who I don't think went past the third grade. And what do they think we'll do if they find we've misspelled a word, cry?

It only shows them to be trolls. Something we've pointed out about them long ago.

"The Grammar and Spellcheck Troll

You know this type of troll. They're the people who always have to tell other users that they have misspelled words and grammar mistakes. Even when they do it by simply commenting with the corrected word behind an asterisk symbol, it's pretty much never a welcomed comment to any discussion. Some of them even use a commenter's spelling and grammar mistakes as an excuse to insult them."

And this is usually done by posters who make the most mistakes.

1) If that were true, one would think that he was just going to get caught cheating on his Florida income taxes in 2020.

2) I assume you mean his 2019 income taxes that are paid in 2020?

3) If that's the case, New York will still have an opportunity to at least look over part of them.

For a business owner, you seem to be pretty clueless about how taxes work. You must have one hell of an accountant.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

1) Florida does not have a personal income tax. I would know; I lived there until I was 13 years old and I was filling out my own tax forms from my job as a paperboy. But the internet also knows there is no income tax:
www.stateofflorida.com/taxes/

2) Trump's final income tax form will be for 2019. His accountant will fill it out in 2020. Any cheating he does in 2020 won't be reported to NY. And did you notice that Trump is not making available to the public his tax returns for the years he is President? All Presidents do it, but not crooked Trump. Here is Obama's first year in the White House: https://s3.amazonaws.com/pdfs.taxnotes.com/2019/B_Obama_2009.pdf
Here is all Presidents': www.taxnotes.com/presidential-tax-returns

3) Trump is not making his returns available because he remembers what happens to tax cheaters like Nixon: "President Nixon's Troublesome Tax Returns"
www.taxhistory.org/thp/readings.nsf/cf7c9c870b600b9585256df80075b9dd/f
8723e3606cd79ec85256ff6006f82c3?OpenDocument

Nixon had to surrender half of his wealth to pay just the taxes he owed during his years as President. Trump has a history of tax cheating that extends back decades. How much of his wealth will he have to give up? Nobody knows: "Why hasn’t New York charged Donald Trump for tax fraud?"
www.cityandstateny.com/articles/policy/criminal-justice/why-hasnt-new-
york-charged-donald-trump-with-tax-fraud.html
Last October, the Trump family’s decades-long tax schemes were revealed, but the state has taken no action.

Trump is moving to Florida to help his lawyers delay New York from collecting taxes by suing him.

Assuming that you're not lying, which we all know you are, that says a hell of a lot more about the sad state of our school systems in America than it does about you.

Not sure what's worse...

The fact that your teachers gave you a participation trophy for your 3rd grade reading comprehension level via false praise, the fact that there were girls in your class that were even dumber than you are, or the fact that you were even accepted into college in the first place.

How was I embarassed by Second again?

Trump's been living in New York for a long time. He's lived most of 2019 in New York. If Trump was cheating on his taxes in New York, they can catch him cheating on his taxes in New York.

In fact, they don't really have a deadline on that. They can bust him on his 2019 taxes until 2026, so they can take their sweet ass time about it.

I don't give a shit that Florida has no income taxes (which I already knew because my parents live there). There is two reasons for this:

1. You're talking about FUTURE POSSIBLE CRIME. Let's stick to all the bullshit you think happened in the past for now, shall we?

2. Trump derives hardly any of his income from income taxes. If you want to talk about closing loopholes that the wealthy use to get richer, by all means. Trump doesn't fill out the same 1040 that you do, dumbass.

Where did you get your false idea? When Trump inherited from his father, the tax rate on his inheritance would have been 55%, except his cheating lowered his rate to 5%. Same thing happened at his mother’s death. This is billions of dollars going from parents to the Trump children.

Is Trump’s tax cheating enough to remove him from office? Trump's sister, a federal appeals judge, resigned because she was caught cheating. Trump was in the same deals as his sister but she had to make her tax returns available. Meanwhile, Trump keeps his returns secret.

The sister’s cheating was obvious, but obviously nobody competent at detecting tax cheating had ever looked at her returns until after her brother was elected President. And nobody in government will ever look at her returns, now that she has resigned.

The American Bar Association Journal has the story on Trump’s sister tax cheating: www.abajournal.com/news/article/trumps-sister-a-federal-appeals-judge-
resigns-amid-ethics-inquiry

The bigger the cheater, the more likely the cheater won’t pay. Not my idea of a well designed tax collecting system, but what can you do about it? How do you get a President to sign a tax law for better enforcement when the President is the cheater? Come to think of it, how to get that law passed when the GOP is filibustering it in the Senate? Right now there are 300 House of Representative bills that will never be voted on in the Senate because Mitch McConnell does not want to go on record as opposing them. The bills will die of old age in the GOP controlled Senate:

Trump wanted stolen Democratic emails possessed by Wikileaks

The notes recount interviews with former Trump deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates in which he detailed the campaign’s efforts to obtain damaging information on 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, including emails that the intelligence community later concluded were stolen by Russian hackers.

[Rick] Gates recalled a time on the campaign aircraft when candidate Trump said, 'get the emails.' [Michael] Flynn said he could use his intelligence sources to obtain the emails," investigators wrote in a summary of Gates' April 2018 interview with Mueller's team.

Flynn was a foreign policy adviser for the campaign and ultimately became Trump's first national security adviser. He later pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI in December 2017 and faces up to five years in prison on the current charge.
"Flynn had the most Russia contacts of anyone on the campaign and was in the best position to ask for the emails if they were out there," the investigators added.

Everything works great. I let the generator run for an hour straight. I immediately forced a near full well to pump out off the generator, and followed that up with a full load of laundry. I'm still getting enough water in through the inlet for it to go off by itself every 10 minutes or so, so it went off at least another 4 times on its own before I shut everything down and put it back on the main.

The hooks I bought were perfect for the application too, but my cheap ass didn't buy enough of them. I don't think I really had any idea how thick and heavy this cord was going to be until I got down there with it. Going to pick up a half dozen of them later today or tomorrow, get them installed and also figure out if the shelf support I was planning on using is going to be durable enough for the job or if I'm going to need to buy something better. The support I have is probably good enough, but I'm going to be hanging about 80 feet of the heaviest damn extension cord I've ever owned on it, so I need to make absolutely sure it will work for the long haul.

While I was at it, I also did a test on my snow blower and fired up my leaf blower for good measure. Went to fill the air in the snowblower tires and wouldn't you know it... One of them are flat. :( I'm not sure why that always happens with small tires in my garage like that. This is my third flat since I've owned the house. I'm sure those tires aren't cheap to replace and/or fix either. Going to want to take care of that ASAP either way though.

Won't let that bring my mood down though. It's been a great day. :)

When you sell it, the next owner is going to have a perfectly lovely functional family home, where everything works like it should. I hope you make beaucoup bucks on it, you sure have put in your "sweat equity"!

Enjoy the winter, being as snug in a bug in a rug.

So, over at this end ... not sure f I posted this but the reason why our efforts got kicked into hig gear is because we're having out-of-town visitors stopping by. And altho they're only staying a day and a half (on their way to some place else) I've always felt that they were cirtical/judgmental. And, wowuldn't you know it but it was the guest bathroom sink that we had to remove!

So. Vanity has been modified and painted, the sink is installed, the bathroom and guest bedroom have been cleaned. I also did some adventitous cleaning and dusting, changed the filters on the return air ducts, and managed to tidy up the office considerably. While that, I have 1 1/2 large boxes of giveaway stuff collected and will be adding more.

So Tuesday is D-day for us. Hubby is building a platform for the mattress (so they don't have to sleep on a matress on the floor!) and I only need to wash the comforter, mattress cover and one other large item and move the nightstand, light, etc in place and just vacuum up all of the floors around the house. (It's so dusty around here!)

Once our visitors have come and gone I'm going to cover the bathroom vent (the one that goes right thru the roof) with cardboard so we don't get leaves and dust blowing in, cover the bed with an old sheet, close the door and keep it in its more-or-less pristine state until next time, when it should only take a little dusting to make it good again.

One room DONE.

Well... Second did quote something that made sense in another thread the other day, although it didn't apply at all to the point that he was making where he put it, of course.

It was in regards to how easy Americans have it and how they don't need to use most of their brains because of that.

I might bitch a lot, and I might have the added pressure right now of overcoming a lot of crap I let pile up over the years on top of additional pile ups because of neglect, but I generally thrive in chaos. I'm learning so much here about stuff that most Americans never even think about I could probably write a book.

Maybe I will. I could call it something like "The American Handyperson's Prep Guide For The Second Great Depression"

You might be right here. It's probable that a lot of these problems were problems from day one, but I wasn't aware of what was behind the walls and under the floors.

There was a lot of damage I either directly caused or I'm responsible for from neglect though. If anything, I'd like to think that the work I've done vs the new shit that's popped up that I need to take care of comes out to a wash.

Now that the porch is back in, I really think that I could sell this house tomorrow and make back what I paid for it. Especially since it's a better market than when I bought it.

We're not there yet. Not by a long shot. But I do believe that once the screen door is installed and I get that visqueen up over the louvers this week that at least I will have taken care of any of the things that were causing the place to degrade prematurely.

Let's see....

Structural repairs and a new floor in porch. Cracked drain pipe fixed. Backup solution for the sump pump in the event of power failure. Racoon family removed and access sealed so it won't happen again. Crawl space visqueen scoured so all of my work down there wasn't gross. House de-hoarded, with most of the garage de-hoarded and organized as well. Ground re-graded all along the house. Patio pavers all pulled up and ready for grass to be planted in the spring. Heat system working at least 5 times as good as it ever has. New entry steps for front porch and pillars re-painted.

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting at the moment. It's been a good few months.

PS: What kind of generator? We're looking at getting one.

It's a Dewalt. It was used and out of the box, and I didn't get the manual with it, so I couldn't tell you what the specs are.

Without measuring it, I would guess it was around 3 feet long, by 2 1/2 feet wide and 2 1/2 feet long. It's got three plug receptacles. Two standard A/C wall outlet types as well as a 4-prong 20AMP.

If I bought more plugs for it, I'm sure it would power the fridge and a light or two and maybe even a TV. I haven't really tried to research the exact specs yet since at this point I'm just thrilled to have a working backup solution in place for the next outage event.

Be sure to do your research before you buy one so you don't throw away your money. It's not something to skimp on since it will be the emergency backup and if it fails or isn't up to your necessary tasks you throw at it, you won't know that until after it fails on you at the worst possible time.

Glad to see you're still making good progress.

I agree. Having guests, unexpected or not, is a very good catalyst for getting more work done.

It's a ton of maintenance. Even when I have it fully restored and things were all in working order, there is just so much land and landscaping to take care of. Water is always going to be an issue because of the location too, so any solutions I make are only temporary measures relying on mechanical parts that will eventually fail and cost money to replace. It's way too much house for one person too. I really only live in one room and use a kitchen and bathroom like I have done for years in previous apartments. Also, my aversion for paying somebody 5 to 10 times more to do something than it would cost me to do it is fine when I'm 40 and in generally good health, but in a house that will require much more of that than most other homes, I've already decided that one way or another this is not the house I'm going to die in.

I got it for so cheap because it was a rehab/foreclosure and I bought at the rock bottom of the market. It's virtually already paid for itself since I would have thrown what I paid for it away on rent the last 8 years.

Looking at it one way, if I sold it for $25 right now I'd be making a profit. But I can't look at it that way since I wasted all that time and didn't do anything to bolster my nest egg. I figure right now I'd have to sell it for what I paid plus $10k to break even.

Now that I'm not sitting here everyday afraid that it's about to fall over, I'm not in such a huge hurry. I've still got some time and energy in me to keep making improvements. My loose plan at this point is to spend the next year or two and around $8k to $10 in repairs and upgrades and sell the house for a $50k profit when I'm done.

It would be so nice to then take that money, move into a house for half of what I sell this one for that only has 2 bedrooms and a small lawn and isn't on a floodplain and is down by my brother where things are cheaper, life is slower and people are nicer.

That's the dream.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Well, not "DONE" done, just at the point where we don't have to work on it anymore. At some point in the distant future we would like to replace the entire vanity, and the bathroom needs repainting. But that's for the distant future. It wouldn't have been such an issue if a copper pipe hand't ctacked and dear daughter hadn't taken it upon herself to start complulsively peeling paint, so all we've done is recover lost ground, and that not even 100%.

Made progress elsewhere but it's been scatteredt ... painting the back bedrooms, declusttering everywhere, organizing and decluttering the garage ... but since no whole rooms have been entirely done it's harder to see progress. You probably know the feeling! I CAN count the number of giveaway boxes, and bins and pounds of trash crossing the perimeter in the outbound direction ... about 200 lbs of scrap wood and 300 lbs of scrap metal and the equivalent of six large boxes of donation items ... I think the next thing is to figure out how to sell the bigger more expensive stuff.

Anyone want an entire setting of fine china?

Anyway, I'm looking foreward to the day when I can si down, look around and think to myself ... this room is DONE, and easier to keep clean!

Ran into my manager yesterday as I was heading out and we had a nice little chat. She asked me how I was doing and I said I was good. Still doing organizing but that was a good thing. She said, "Well, you are home now and you can do it whenever you want." I agreed and added, "I can sit down and watch tv or get up and do a couple of small things. " In my head I added ,"No rush at all."

Hey Sigs...

I think this would be the "new" equivalent to the generator I've got. It may be a little more powerful than mine, and has a few extra plugs on it than mine does. I'm not sure if it is actually more powerful or it's because it's just a newer model. Mine is probably a decade old or even older. Everything under the doodad panel looks pretty much identical to what I'm working with.

PRICEY. I had no idea what a great generator my step dad gave me. I'm going to have to make that up to him when money allows.

Got all of my leaves to the curb today, and I hadn't planned on even doing that. They're not all down yet, but it should be at least half of them gone when they pick them up tomorrow. I don't think I've ever been this proactive with that since I've lived here.

Before I did that though, I removed all the old and cracked caulk from those shitty louvers on the front of the porch that was letting the melting snow get into the walls and floor on Halloween. Used a few blades, then sanded it all down and washed it good and got the new caulk up there.

Probably didn't need to do that once I have the visqueen up since I plan on ripping all that shit out and putting legit windows in front next year, but can't be too safe.

Hopefully tomorrow is the day we get the screen door installed. I think I know the one I'm going to get. It's 270 bucks. Just need my friend to make sure that it's good for our needs and we'll pick it up and get her installed.

I hope what I've gotten done recently isn't making you feel that way in comparison, Kiki.

I've had plenty of time where I've done next to nothing for days at a time since I've been unemployed. But the clock is ticking on a few fronts at once right now, particularly the weather, and I've also had to face a few near emergency situations that forced me to work that much harder.

Been in a bit of a manic state recently, fueled by a lot of cheap coffee.

It will be nice to just have a normal job and a normal life like everybody else does one day and work half as hard as I'm doing now.

I blow thru things but only to about the 80% level. Nothing is ever fully done; and sooner or later it needs to be re-done and/or completed. I keep thinking ... when I get more time I can get this truly finished ... but that time never seems to come. This house is too big for us. When mom lived with us it made sense, but when she passed away it got to be one or two rooms too big. But by then the prices had gone up ... hubby wanted to know if we could finda smaller place quite a few years ago, so I dipped my toes into the RE market and told him the sad truth ... that we could find one smaller, but not cheaper! So here we are, until we commit to a BIG move ... like, out of county of even out of state.

What I would LIKE to do is to be able to check off a bunch of things that won't have to be re-addressed later. What that means, I think, it getting rid of a bunch of big useless items and also re-organizing.

I looked around the house and realized that it looks like the house is being "worked on" but it isn't "working for" us. The furniture, the setup, doesn't promote the things we want or need to do; it's just what accumulated over the years and how we managed to fit in-between things. So I need to put my thinking cap on and re-imagine what this place could do for us, and also (like I said) shut off a room or two so that it's not so hard to keep clean... this is an incredibly dusty neighborhood!

*****

Speaking of which... SIX, you truly do seem energized by crisis. Still, the emotional highs and lows must be tiring!

I have a question, sort of inspired by my revelation about our house .... when your home repairs and maintenance are no longer an urgent urgency, how do you plan to re-configure your home to work for you? The related question, which I already asked, was: What would you LIKE to do with your time? I think you have a game-related software project to work on, but do you have any other projects/ plans/ hobbies?

Re home remodeling / reorganizing ... everything I've read said ... think about what you do day to day ...

BUT - what if, for example, you don't have a kitchen that lends itself to cooking. So you don't cook, day to day. But you would cook, if you could.

Why remodel and reproduce all the same limitations of your current space by reproducing what you now do day to day?

I've read a few really good organizing tips however and come up with a few myself:

a place for everything
store it where you used it
keep everything you use daily out in plain sight
pull-out drawers below waist level, cupboards above
wide drawers to avoid having to open a lot of them to find something
open shelves are freaking dust-catchers

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/03/t-magazine/kitchen-organization.htm

kitchens "Bennett believes that all cookware falls under the four pillars of “prep, cook, serve, store” “PREP” includes tools like mixing bowls, her mortar and pestle, a scale and a measuring glass, while the “COOK” drawer is full of pots and pans. Items for serving — plates, bowls and glasses — are in the cupboard, her resealable containers are all stacked in a drawer of their own, and never shall the four ever meet.

That's good to hear that it's not me. I'll just tell you what I told my team lead at the old job... "Do yourself a favor and don't compare anyone else to me or you're just going to frustrate yourself. Take your next best employee and stack them all up against number 2."

You'll get to it. Just stay positive. I had a major setback tonight that really puts a damper on all of the work done so far, but I'm not going to let it kill me until spring.

I'll get to that later...

Not sure. My dental situation is unique to the point that we didn't even know that I still hadn't had any cavities for sure until I specifically asked the dentist to look for them. My problems were so far beyond what is normal that we don't tend to look at normal things.

I've actually never heard the word "abscess" used when diagnosing any of my problems. It was just time for the teeth to go when they did. Several of them putting me in pretty bad pain 24/7 for weeks or even months before I took care of it. (Either on my own or with dental expertise).

I would think that mild pressure would be the beginnings of one, or at least something to be concerned with. In my case, that never got any better and only eventually got worse. I wouldn't wait on it if I were you. What might be a very small problem if you catch it early could end up a much larger one.

I'd be a smartass right now and say "ask me how I know", but you already know the answer to that question.

Good luck, whatever it is. I truly feel your pain.

Yeah. It's all pretty tiring. Not emotions so much though... more like instinctual impulses more than anything else. I'm basically a cave man with a high vocabulary at this point.

I think you have a game-related software project to work on, but do you have any other projects/ plans/ hobbies?

Well first, I should point out that you're asking yourself the right questions and thinking about making the right decisions, IMO.

Checking off things that you can do once and have a very low likelihood of having to re-do any time soon is a great idea. Especially if you don't find yourself in a position like mine where 6 out of 10 things you'd like to just snap your finger and have magically finished are emergencies.

I can say from my own experience that getting rid of shit you don't use, especially BIG SHIT is a huge plus. I do think that if you stay true to your de-cluttering efforts that over time you're going to look back and realize that it was more than clutter... especially if you have a house that is "too big" and that extra room has just become a place to store extra shit that you don't need.

Don't get me wrong... I'm sure it's nice stuff, but if you're not using it than it's just shit and needs to go. Except for a box or two of sentimental stuff and perhaps a large piece or two with real sentimental value (even better if you can incorporate them into your every day life in a useful way), I would work on getting rid of anything that you don't use regularly that you haven't even pulled out in the last 2 years for any reason. In the mean time, I'd make it a rule that if you buy something new (or just bring something new to you in the home) that you get rid of something else. Especially until you get to where you want to be.

Eventually, I think it would also be a good idea for you to move into a place that is more manageable and practical for your needs as well. That place is only going to seem less manageable and practical as the years tick by. You're not going to be able to enjoy your retirement the way you would like if you're always fixing stuff and cleaning rooms you don't even use.

As for me?

Although I got sidetracked from the de-hoarding on my own end when the rehab stuff worked, I did get about 90% out of the house that I wanted to. I may even go back to the boxes of saved stuff and get rid of more at a later date when I realize that I'm not going back up there to pull any of it back out now that I'm not in panic mode to move out.

It's been since around the middle of August that I stopped getting rid of stuff, and I'll tell you that I don't believe I've ever once regretted getting rid of any of it yet. Everything I use is easy to get to and organized.

Mind you, I'm very much a creature of habit, and I can get by on a very minimalist lifestyle. This approach might not work for everyone, but I absolutely LOVE not having to dig through drawers and closets to find the things I need, whether it be simple cooking utensils or a tool I need for a job. I can now keep in my mind where everything is and I also have a mental inventory of what I own and where it is located at all times.

I didn't quite get there with the garage yet. In fact, because of construction materials I needed, and my new need to have my generator in a place that is quick and easy to get to, I actually back-slid on the progress out there and won't be able to make much more headway now until it gets nice again next spring. I'm still miles ahead of where I was last spring though, and although I might not have as easy a time finding what I need out there, I don't have a need for things out there nearly as much as I do the stuff that is inside the house. I also put together a tool box inside my kitchen pantry that has 90% or more of the tools I'd need for everyday use.

As far as projects... hobbies?

Yeah. I love the video game software project, and I can't wait to get back to it one day. If I ever was able to get everything done that needs doing and get myself into a much lower maintenance home where I could set myself up with a nice tool shop I'd probably extend that love into making hand made arcades, arcade joysticks and bartop arcades to house the hardware that runs the software.

I love making things. When I get myself into a financial situation that is stable and I've got a bit of positive cash flow to burn I'd love to do that one day.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

As for my house repair side of things, what I had feared with the door situation is the reality. My friend said "don't worry about it. you worry too much."

He's usually right. This time I shouldn't have listened. The opening is too small for any standard size door (goddamned Uncle Bob). There's no way to open it large enough for a standard door. I can't exactly raise the roof. Even before the settling occurred on the far side, this door opening isn't enough for an 80" door. I need a 78" door. My local store doesn't even carry them online. Home Depot has them, but you have to have them delivered to the store or your home ahead of time and can't just go there and pick them up on a whim.

It's November 4th. We ran out of time. I'm just going to have to try to seal everything up with plastic for now and put it on my spring to-do list. I may even seal it up so I can't even access the back door until the spring. This will be extremely unfortunate if we have a heavy snow season since there is no walkway to shovel from my garage to the front door.

Oh well...

Cold tomorrow, but decent on Wednesday. I've got my work cut out for me weatherproofing everything on what is likely to be the last decent day we have here in 2019.

I'm going to try the Great Stuff fix on my snowblower tire. Just found out that my only available option for replacement tires on it are a 2 pack of "maintenance free airless tires" for $115 bucks, which makes one wonder why they aren't originally installed on a goddamned unit that costs $500 in the first place and I got for $270 new. I'm not paying more than 1/3 of what I paid for the whole damned thing for new tires.

I saw a new method for doing this that makes a ton more sense than how the other guy said to do it for the spreader tire that requires pulling the stem out of the innertube. Stem tools are cheap, but apparently not easy to come by these days unless you want to order them online. Both Walmart and my local auto parts store have them for online order, but not in the store. Supposedly you can just do it with a pair of needle nose pliers. I actually know that I have one somewhere, although I didn't know what it was when it came in a huge lot of 300 tools I bought years ago on ebay. I might luck out and find it in my garage.

The guy who did it for his own snowblower did an update video 2 years later and it still works. I just got 2 cans of Great stuff for $5 the other day on sale. $2.50 sure beats $115.

According to the National Weather Service, it was warmer than average in most places in Southern California in October, except in the Antelope Valley. El Niño and La Niña are in neutral this year, but most of the rain in the Los Angeles region comes later in the season, and 60% to 70% of that is borne by atmospheric rivers, which stream moisture from the tropical Pacific into California like a fire hose. “And there are no good predictors for those,” Patzert said.

There are many factors in California’s water picture, and it’s too early to call the game, Patzert said, but “it’s the first quarter right now and the Santa Anas are ahead 28-0.”

Confused here. How is it that she "runs" the games? Does she host them at her place? Does she maintain a schedule? Does she supply the tiles? Does she collect dues? Bring food and drinks?

I mean, I was the "coffee person" at work which meant I collected the dues and bought the supplies and bought new coffee-maker when the old one crapped out but there was a set of responsibilities along with that. I would never say I was "the Scrabble person" at work because it just depended on who dragged out the Scrabble board and rounded up another player or two or three.

How can someone play NOT "nice"? Aside from not crowing every time you win or making nasty remarks about other people's playing or being a sore loser, what else are you supposed to do? Let other people win?

I guess I just don't understand the dynamics.

But now that yo have a place of your own, is there anything preventing you from hosting your own mahjong games?

Why remodel and reproduce all the same limitations of your current space by reproducing what you now do day to day?

I've read a few really good organizing tips however and come up with a few myself:

a place for everything
store it where you used it
keep everything you use daily out in plain sight
pull-out drawers below waist level, cupboards above
wide drawers to avoid having to open a lot of them to find something
open shelves are freaking dust-catchers

l

kitchens "Bennett believes that all cookware falls under the four pillars of “prep, cook, serve, store” “PREP” includes tools like mixing bowls, her mortar and pestle, a scale and a measuring glass, while the “COOK” drawer is full of pots and pans. Items for serving — plates, bowls and glasses — are in the cupboard, her resealable containers are all stacked in a drawer of their own, and never shall the four ever meet.

keep bedrooms spare

All VERY good advice! But it will be hard convincing hubby that open shelves (including bookshelves) are dust-catchers. He LOVES open shelving because he had them at work and everything was viewable (he's tall). I keep reminding him ... but it doesn't seem to stick ... that he worked in a double-HEPA filtered positive pressure room. Dust wasn't problem for him, unless it came in a very dusty computer case.

Understand about not reproducing the limitations of the current place with a new setup. That kind of gets into a metaphysical projection ... what WOULD we being doing if we had the time/space? (Besides maintaining the house, I mean!) Have to take into account our interests but also our declining physical capabilities ... woud not commit to restoring an old car top to bottom unless I had a LOT of time because everything would go very slowly. So probably mostly smaller projects.

But first, I think, is de-cluttering and re-organizing. It's impossible to clean or get anything done if everything is everywhere. Think about how to make current tasks more time-efficient. Once time-pressure is reduced we can think about options.

Sounds like she's the alpha dog of the group, and probably a crappy one at that.

You come off as a nice person with a lot of wit here. Maybe it's time you bump her from that seat.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I beat her three times last week. And yes she does get upset when I do.

She's the chairperson of the group and having been a school teacher, elementary. She likes being in control.

Thank you Jack. I like to think that I am a nice person and I do try not to step on anyone's toes in the group. Don't know if I want the job.

The problem is that I do and I can pretty well name a couple of the ones who are the complainers.

So, what else does she do that's so annoying?

Well, I dislike being treated like I am 5years old when I am playing. And that involves a few things about her mannerisms.

She's the chairperson of the mah jong group and everyone agreed to let her lead it.

I'll admit that I get frustrated with the way that I play or the tiles and remarks might slip. They take it all personally but then when I say nothing which this lady thinks is wrong, they can make all the remarks they want and I have to sit there and take them.

Unfortunately SIG, there is. I don't own my own set of mah jong tiles. Wish that I did.

I hope it works out. I don't really have any advise to give you beyond that. I generally just avoid situations like that because in the past I've ended up letting things just stew inside of me until one day I explode. Sometimes it ended in just a lot of yelling, but other times I've ended up beating a few people within an inch of their life. It's not something I'm proud of, and once the red clears from my eyes it's instant regret. It's part of the reason why I live the loner life is because of my anger management issues.

Maybe Sigs and Kiki have some good advice to give you.

Front part of my porch is now water tight. Hard to explain how I did everything without pictures, but all the pieces fell into the right place and this solution is better than I could have ever hoped for going into it. It would probably survive the next 5 years without any further maintenance. :)

Tomorrow is the last warm day. Need to make the screen door area watertight and see if I can get the vinyl siding back up. If not, going to need to wrap the base of the back of the house with plastic too until spring. Also going to see if I can fix the flat on the snowblower tomorrow. I should have time for all of that. The front took longer than I had hoped, but I knew that wasn't going to be an easy job solo. Everything else should be a lot easier.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

No worries Jack. Sometimes I just need a little moan.

I just basically put them on ignore. It's not my fault I can intimidate them.

Well, I dislike being treated like I am 5years old when I am playing. And that involves a few things about her mannerisms.

Ok, but still confused. If what irritates you is "mannerisms" then she does the same to everyone all the time. Tho it may be incredibly annoying (example, someone pointing their finger to the sky whenever they want to emphasize a statement) it's not directed at you or anyone in particular. So if it's truly a mannerism you shouldn't feel annoyed by it because it's all "her" and not "you".

OTOH if what she's doing is directed specifically AT YOU, then it's not a "mannerism", it's an intentional comment (even a non-verbal one) and possibly an insult. In which case, it would be perfectly appropriate to feel annoyed.

So, what does she do, specifically?

Well, this all sounds pretty toxic. How did everyone seem to have gotten so far away from just having fun?

I just looked up the price of tiles, they're not THAT expensive. Something else is going on here. Maybe you should quit this group which seems so toxic and do something else to get out. Yanno, look around develop your options, and then join a volunteer group, take a class, or something. See how it goes, and then quit your mahjong group if you like the new group.

I didn't notice the part about talking politics on first read...

Yeah. I probably wouldn't do that if I were you.

I'm not going to pretend that I don't ever engage in political talk in the real world, but I'm extremely picky and choosy about where I do and with who. I never talk about it at work. I'd imagine that if I did any extracurricular activities for enjoyment that I wouldn't do it there either. Basically, if it's at a place that I have to go back to regularly or that I enjoy going back to regularly, I'm not going to make that situation uncomfortable for myself in the future by engaging in these talks.

On an individual basis, I only ever open up about my own views with people who freely talk about it and I have a good feeling that we're both on the same page already. I do not like debating differing political views with people in the real world, simply because of the ease at which it becomes a topic of hostility. Everybody in 2019 goes into these things with a lot of preconceived notions about people who disagree with them politically, even though in most cases none of them are true on an individual level.

If you're the minority opinion in your group, and you're telling them that they are wrong, they're likely taking that as a personal insult even if you didn't mean for it to be (and it is quite possible that you in fact DID mean it to be).

In you Mahjong group case, you don't even have to be the minority opinion. If this woman you're talking about is the self-made queen of the group with no opposition, it doesn't really matter what the rest of them think if they're all going to have her back.

I dunno. I guess long story short now that I realized that politics were involved I could update my previous lack of suggestions to just advise that you try to avoid the politics and maybe have other things to talk about and change the subject up on them.

If nothing else, I can't imagine that it's very fun to play a game while talking about all of that bullshit anyhow.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
