Out for my walk in a bit on what seems like a sunny day. Debating about a jacket. Holiday Monday up here.

That's the best weather there is, IMHO.

I've only mowed it 4 times so far this year, and I'm using the highest setting on the mower every time. It actually looks phenomenal compared to last year. And even though I still had dandelions after weed 'n feed applications last year, it was half of what it used to be, and since I wasn't obsessing over it I can hardly believe that the season has already passed and I'd hardly even given it any thought compared to how they were plaguing my thoughts last year.

Tomorrow I'm going to get my hoses out and hopefully spray the weed 'n feed and get my proper insect poison spread around the foundation of the house and garage.

I really wish I took pictures of how bad I let this house look back in the depths of the drinking so I could really compare them to how everything looks now.

Light years.

As long as you're doing what you're capable of and can look back on your day and be pleased with the work, you've got nothing to feel bad about at the end of the day. You've been through a lot this last year and came out the other side of it. Don't hurt yourself or press yourself too hard. The lawn will always be waiting for you tomorrow.

Oops... I read the instructions on the lawn spray and that's out of the question today. You're supposed to do it when there won't be any rain for at least 48 hours and it's supposed to rain pretty heavy tomorrow with more rain through Friday.

I dunno how I forgot that since I did it last year. I must have been mixing up the directions with my "everything" killer that says it's okay if it rains even 30 minutes after application.

At this point I think it might be a little late in the year to do it and I should probably wait until fall. If I can get a good day to do it before the end of may I'll still do it now though. I really don't think it needs the "feed" part that much this year since everything is so full and green.

Still going to get the hoses set up and drop the insect killer.

I'd really like to get the rest of my new shelving in the garage finished too, but I haven't been able to find too much scrap 2" boards from other people and 2x4's are still $6 a piece right now.

I'll have to find something else to start on that isn't one of my major projects. I've got some other obligations this week and I don't like getting into anything heavy when I know I've got to break away from it imminently.

Put the poison down today and got the hoses out right before the big rains set in.

One of the hose nozzles is knackered and I'll need to get a replacement. Luckily for me, they're on sale right now for a great price so I'm going to pick up a few backups when I go out.

Going to clean the kitchen/bathroom/living room and get some laundry done. I'll be going to my Grams and aunts probably tomorrow night through Friday to help get some more things done while my aunt is on vacation, but they're probably coming over this weekend for the first time in a few months to see what I've been working on since they've last been here, so I want the place really clean.

What a chore. It's one thing to walk in the rain occasionally bc you like it. It's another thing to have to do it over and over to run errands. Same with snow and ice. I hope it dries out for you soon.

May your rain only fall at night!

Ehhh, I'm sure we'll eat, but I haven't gone out to eat with them since the Covid crap. I was never big on going out to restaurants in the first place, so there's no arguments from me. She was only barely 87 when that all came down. Pushing 90 now. The lack of exercise for two years has kind of taken its toll on her. She won't do anything unless she's pushed into it.

I'm sure I'll get a game or two of Upwords in with her tomorrow in between helping out my aunt.

I've been teaching myself Sudoku and even tho it's a game (mostly) of logic, some games ARE harder than others and some REQUIRE taking a guess. Even in that, there's luck involved. So, best of luck!

Cool. One of my mah jong group was learning that game. Not sure if she stuck with it though.

I had tiny bit of luck. Finished off the morning with over 3,000points but I didn't win anything. Oh well. I had one decent hand that got me over 2,000points because it was all winds and dragons. Those pieces are worth the most. So, that was 3 doubles then I had another 2 doubles plus one flower that was my own for the round.

Oh, how I hate my allergies. They used to show up only in the Spring but now they can run all year. I did get some more eye drops. Have to have them on hand for when I vacuum or take anything down to recycling or the garbage.

I'll bring the dinner if you make dessert?

I'm not much of a baker. Could never get the hang of it. Pot pie (with top crust only to save on carbs) is about as far as I got.

That's a fair trade.

I confess the tart shells are bought. I haven't made pie crust in years and truthfully I do very little baking now.

When I was younger and my mum was alive, I would bake whole apple and sometimes rhubarb pies, cakes. Tried my hand at cookies but they didn't come out so good, so I never did that again.

I like to bake but baking for one person is kind of a drag. I'll likely make up some of my eggless, milk less cupcakes for my birthday.

Making homemade applesauce is easy. Cut up the apples put them in a pot with a bit of water and sugar then cook down until soft or mushy. Depending on how you like it. For me this eliminates the risk of lemon being in the mix. Processed apple sauce can have that added.

My dad was the true baker in the family. Cakes, cookies, pies and bread. Oh so good.

Ended up getting a ton of stuff done at Grams.

The basement I used to live in hasn't been cleaned in 12 years since my uncle who was living down there passed away. I hadn't even been down there in years even when I did go over there. My aunt was hoping I could sweep the floors for her.

Did a lot more than that. Got all the cobwebs off the ceilings and walls, moved everything that she said needs to be thrown out (which was everything not attached to the wall) out to the garage to be salted out with the trash over the next month or two, and then I swept up the floor. My aunt says that's the most empty the basement has been since they first bought the place when she was 3 years old. Once everything is out we're probably going to power wash the walls and floor since there are drains down there.

Next time I go back I'm going to do the same to the bedroom and large closet I'd built for myself down there and the fruit cellar if time permits. There's quite a bit of mouse crap in both of those spots though, so it might take more than one day. They took care of the mouse problem last fall, but it must have been worse than my aunt thought. I know where they're coming in, so I'm going to take care of that before winter.

There's also a janky light right by the washer/dryer setup, so I'm going to get a new one and fix that for her. The washer/dryer setup was horrendous too. It really must have been a nightmare for my aunt to even go down there to do laundry, having to duck and weave through the cobwebs and just have that shit all over the place. I gave the washer/dryer a real good cleaning with some bleach and cleaned off a shelf and cabinet on the wall that I installed about 20 years ago now after throwing out about 40lbs of junk around that area so now there's a nice clean place to put the laundry detergent and fabric softener as well as the drain catches and some household cleaning products.

Hopefully all the pictures I'd put down there in plastic cases are still fine, but other than that it's all being junked.

I think my aunt is starting to have a real hard time keeping up with the house and taking care of my grandma on her own. At this point, anything I can do to make life a little easier for her is a win. I didn't let her help me with any of that work today and told her to just relax and enjoy one of her last few vacation days before going back to work.

I didn't have time to play Upwords with Grams though. I promised her that we would when I come back next week.

That was some seriously awesome work, SIX.

I divide work into the kind of stuff you have to do every day (brush teeth and, in my case, cook and wash dishes), the kind of work you have to do every week (sort mail, water potted plants etc) the work you have to do every few weeks, and the work you do maybe once a decade or might not even have to repeat in your entire lifetime.

THAT once-in-a-decade kind of work is a real accomplishment. I hope you're as pleased with your work as your aunt is!

Actually, if my grandma knew what I did outside of the cleaning she wouldn't be thrilled at all. She's always been a mid-tier hoarder, and it was always a struggle to try to get rid of anything. If she knew our plans to get rid of two entire filing cabinets of bills and other paperwork BS from decades ago next week, she'd pop her top.

It needs to be done though, and since my old man wants nothing in that house and I'm taking my aunt at her word that my uncle doesn't either, I'm going to get rid of everything I see that isn't useful for their lives now.

I have to keep my own hoarding tenancies in check too here. I have taken a few things I've found so far. One is a vintage Panasonic radio that still works fantastically and just needs to be cleaned up, and the other is an ancient pipe wrench with my great-great grandfather's last name etched into it. (I thought all of that stuff had been thrown out by my other uncle years ago. Maybe more will turn up... hopefully???)

The basement will be super easy to clear out. The 2nd floor will be easy for small stuff, but getting furniture downstairs is going to have to be done while she's napping or super quietly. I know my aunt wants the first floor cleared of everything they don't use too, but I don't know how we're going to be able to do that. I'm not even going to think about being the guy clearing out the small bedroom that she uses as her closet that is 95% full of clothes she hasn't worn in decades. I think that stuff is going to have to stay for now.

Part of me feels bad doing this knowing that she wouldn't approve if she knew it was happening, but at this point it's really not about her as much as it is about her kids and what they're going to have to deal with one day. I only wish I could have gotten her to do this stuff decades ago. Drawing from personal experience, I think she would have been happier with a de-cluttered house.

Anyway... Got the yard work done and just drying my hair off before I go out shopping.

Mone of my sisters who was never good at paperwork was taking care of our mom. They had a room full of paperwork, which I sorted when mom was in hospital during of of her stays. A lot of Explanation of Benefits which gave me insight into dad's final years and decades-old bank statements from accounts long-since closed. I boxed it all up categorically and even bought a filing cabinet to sort out the financial records for when it came to.e to do an asset search. Found a few literal shares of stock (not worth much, if anything) but in the end made sorting the estate easier. Also did long term care insurance reimbursement filing which was a PITA bc sis paid by week and reimbursement was by month. At one point we also took down furniture and tossed a lot of junk from the basement.
Anything you can do along those lines is a big help.

I will be going through it reasonably and not just throwing away everything willy-nilly like my Aunt likely would given her current state over everything. I won't be opening every ancient envelope or anything like that because many of them are the SAME because they're bills from the same companies month after month for years, but I'll bet there are some photographs in those file cabinets, and possibly some more old shares... Funny you mention that, because I did "liberate" one single share of Commonwealth Edison from that cabinet many, many, many years ago. It's not worth much, but I don't intend to sell it anyhow. It was from the days when those things looked like letter-sized currency, and I didn't want anybody else to grab it and sell it for the price of eating lunch out. It deserves to be framed like the "Chocolate Seal" $100 bill my Grandpa was so proud of will be framed now that it's the one thing I got from him after both of them passed away on my Mom's side.

The more I think about this though, there's no way I'm going to be involved in throwing out anything from her closet/bedroom, and I will do everything in my power to make sure nobody else does either. With the state of my Gram's short term memory being what it is, and her inability to let anything go, that would be a daily nightmare for her and everybody else. Every morning she'd wake up and freak out about where her stuff went and she'd have to relive that horror every day.

I'm here to help... everybody... But this is all pretty sensitive and needs a delicate hand. Psychologically speaking, emptying out that room except for the things she still uses would probably be the worst thing we could do to my grandma.

I agree. Messing with your grandma's immediate environment would be disorienting and distressing. She may be depending on those things to help her remember.

I try to get dear daugher to let go of things bc she's got hoarding tendencies. But bc of her seizure disorder she can't remember much of her past.... but when something does trigger a memory it's detailed. When I try to get her to give up some things. She doesn't communicate well, but she managed to get out "I don't remember and now you're taking these away from me too". It was very sad and heartfelt.

I think you're doing the right things the right way.

I didn't even consider the memory issue as far as her belongings went... Those are good points. For now, my grams only forgets immediate, short-term things. As far as I can tell, she never struggles with any of the old memories (or at least any more than any of us do).

Sometimes I think that she sub-consciously made a choice along the way to just allow this to happen as well, just like she refuses to do any form of exercise that would make life easier for her and my aunt while she's still more than capable of doing so. If we cleared that room out on her, that part of her might just give up and really start forgetting everything.

I can tell it's going to take some more talking with my aunt about clearing that room out. She didn't seem to "get" where I was coming from when I mentioned it over the phone this morning. But I don't think it will be a problem after we get the basement and 2nd floor cleared out. I think my aunt is kind of panicking about things right now and once the hoard on 2 of the 3 floors is completely gone I think she'll become more reasonable about this too.

It's not as if we can't get rid of anything on the 1st floor and make it much more organized and streamlined, especially if we were to do most of that over time instead of all in a day or two. I just don't want her touching that one room at all.

I remember having a similar conversation with my mom when I was a kid as your daughter had with you when she was throwing away a bunch of school stuff I'd done from some file cabinets one day. Jeez... I might have already been showing signs of hoarding before I was 10 years old.

Me too, Brenda.

I was going to work on cleaning my house today, or at least as much as I could get done before my aunt and grandma came over, but with it hitting 90 degrees today and my aunt's A/C out in her car, we agreed to put it off for another weekend. So instead of doing right and getting a jump start on cleaning the house anyway, I've done nothing all day and it's been pretty nice.

Seems like a good idea. I hope your aunt can get her car AC fixed.

Sunday is usually my one day to do nothing around my apartment. Tomorrow it is a bit of grocery shopping then chores when I get back.

Yeah. All the years I've driven I've only had working A/C about two of them. She's willing to try one of those recharge cans that supposedly seal any small leaks. I let her know that she might be throwing $40 or $50 away on it though. It's why I've never done it.

I should be getting some chores done today. We'll see if that happens or not.

I hope, when all is done, that you would feel as if you were in some very nice landscape, something that nature had put together in a happy combination of loveliness.

The lie that is Signym

Signym has solidified her role as being a stupid evil troll in these threads. We are once again witnessing her never ending support for Putins’ rampage against women and children. Yes, just as we did with Syria and Chechnya in the past, today we witness her support for Putin over Ukraine.

She always offers her support for Putins’ criminal assaults on civilians. And all other Russian criminal endeavors. The hundreds upon hundreds of targeted and destroyed civilian entities. Hospitals, schools, orphanages, senior homes, cultural centers and theaters where women and children attempted to take refuge from Russian bombs. You name it. All supported here by Signym, kiki and yes Jack. In Jacks case, to not condemn an evil act is to support an evil act. Some cower from the evil, and yes sadly, some try and capitalize on it. Like to use it to troll in these threads.

All three project lunacy because their propaganda cannot change facts into lies as they would like. The problem they all have, is the facts stay with us and the lies do not. The facts come from the best sources possible and the lies do not. All their attempted deflections away from the truth while trying to promote fake propaganda, is being defied by most of the democratically elected world leaders. And the world’s mainstream press.

I now have to admit I am now wondering if Jewelstatefan is not just another of Kikis’ bots.

Well to quote Antonio Banderas in Desperado, "You Miss Me!" *L*

No rain while I was out. Put off the grocery shopping as I realized I had to get a birthday present for a friend. Her birthday is on Sunday. And when I took a turn around the grocery store the most appetizing thing I found was some ice cream on sale. *L*

So, we shall see what happens tomorrow.

It is a good scene.

I didn't buy any ice cream today but it should still be on sale tomorrow. So, I might just buy a box along with something to make for supper.

I like a little ice cream in the afternoon. Makes a nice snack.
