Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I was at the grocery store for a few small items and I asked one of the store people if they would please bend down and grab a hand basket for me. I was pretty sure I could bend down, but I didn't want to test out if I could stand back up!

I know I have a weird sense of humor, but if I **had** bent down and got stuck - aside from being inconvenient, painful, and really annoying - I think it would have been kinda' funny. Like a sitcom - what's the worst outcome of this scenario - skit.

But I feel for you. Actually, I feel for us both. There certainly are better things in life than being painfully hindered.

But about my sense of humor ... I once took a neurology/psychology class and one of the things you had to do was be a lab rat in an experiment. Anyway, one of their experiments was to put you in a soundproof room and play random tones and give you random uncomfortable electric shocks while being wired up in a lie-detector type rig (to see if you'd associate the tone w/ the shock and have a stress reaction to the tone, I guess).

Anyway, I got zapped TWICE!! ... IN A ROW!!! and it was SO unanticipated and novel, I literally burst out laughing, because it was like the funniest joke to me. HA HA!! YOU GOT ME!

But that's just me.

I wonder if they were busy scribbling notes behind the one-way mirror....

Something similar happened... well, not exactly. You know those "fun houses"? Universal Studios has one, and I used to persuade DD to go thru them with me, but it was always a tense experience for me. Not because what happens inside scares me, but bc it scares dd, and then it's so dark in there and with enuf mirrors that it is literally impossible (with my bad eyes) to see where to go next. I have to follow the person right in front of me, like an ant trail, or I might not know which way to turn, panicking dd. And then, with her hanging back and me trying to urge her forward ... nicely ... with the ppl in front of me get further and further away ... well, not the most fun in the "funhouse"!

So we exit, and I release my breath bc I was a little wound up, and some employee snuck out and tapped me on the shoulderblade with a long (fake) fingernail and I shrieked. LIKE A GIRL! REALLY LOUD!

And then I burst out laughing bc it was so unexpected, and HAHA! they got me, too!

It's not something you can go to the doctor and cure.

Brenda is depressed because all of the social interaction she used to do has been ended by lockdowns.

When's the last time you got to play Mah Jong with your group, Brenda?

People who live alone and who weren't already fully or near fully used to being alone and comfortable living that way nearly 24/7 are being hit especially hard by this.

Even I have seen far less people than I usually did in the last few months, and the only physical contact I've had since March was hugging my brother because he doesn't give a shit about social distancing either. I've seen my old man about 3 times since then and he doesn't hug anymore.

I'm sure he hugs his wife and my youngest brother that is living with them though. People who live together at least still get to do that in 2020.

I feel your pain, Brenda. This whole situation sucks.

But as I think about it, I hope you realize Brenda that you're still my role model!

I've learned a lot from you that's really important, and which you keep reminding me of whether you know it or not. So I hope some day I can repay you in some way. And if it's now, please let me know.

I've been through counselling on my own. My doc after my mom died prescribed an anti-depressant for me but when I went back on seizure meds, I had to stop.

It's like Jack said a lack of interaction. I've been by myself over the years because I've chosen to be and I am fine with that.

It's got nothing to do with this new place. It's just stuff.

I don't really think so.

Think it was March about the middle of the month. Same thing with work.

I was used to being on my own but I got used to being around people and now that is gone until at least October it gets too me every so often and this is one of those times.

The last time I hugged someone was my friend when I saw her for her birthday and that was in the beginning of June.

I rarely see any of my group and if I do. They stop and talk for a minute or two then they are gone. They have bigger social circles than I do.

Add stuff I want to do and I not getting any answer from people. It just adds up. I'll be alright.

This will pass as I try to put it on ignore.

I'm sure you will.

The "I'm alright." means. I'll get through this as I always do. Sheer force of will and my own stubbornness.

I will be out for "walkies" in a bit. Need to do some things.

"Figuring out my story." Well, you know I've posted a few things here that I've written over the last few years. I don't like it when something doesn't come together and sometimes it takes me a little time to get it all right. Like this latest piece I am working on. But again it is just me being my stubborn self.

Though the stubbornness is a family trait. Seen on both sides but maybe a little bit more on my dad's.

The walking is good for me and even my GP asked me if I got out during the lockdown and I said I did. I am now staying out longer than an hour which gives me more time to get things done.

Think somewhere along the line I mentioned that I fell into the writing by accident. I had had a row with just about everyone in my life and so I picked up a pad of paper and pen and just started. And this is coming from someone who loathed English class in high school. I like to get them right even if no one sees them. I write stuff for myself and for here, so I want the plot to work and hopefully the characters to seem right.

I'm already sort of starting to see the end of this bit of the blahs.

Been out for my walk. Got to a local thrift shop which netted me a t-shirt and some jeans. Needed the pants. Got one pair that the backside is about done in them.

Went out to lunch in a local restaurant and had French toast with real bacon. Very good but a little heavy. Feeling just a little icky but I'll be okay. Not very often I eat that.

Been flogging myself thru yardwork ... it is an unending chore, especially if you've committed to what is essentially a garden front yard and a large veggie garden in the back.

Got a bin or more of bermuda grass dug. Not a lot, but it was a righteous bin as is was all close digging right around established plants. Also some prunings and a bin of avocado leaves raked.

But it was going so slow I decided to take a weekend vacation from outdoor work, and do paperwork and shower scrubbing and such. I have to say, my body really needed the break.

It's coming clear to me with each advance of arthritis that I'm going to have to find some way of staying mobile and functional, and it's going to take a concerted effort on my part if I don't want to end up chairbound in ten years, so I better start attending to that and maybe do some online research.

Speaking of which, my back is still tweaked. It's not so bad that I can't get around at all, but bad enough that I'm shuffling bent over and I have to be very slow and deliberate with everything I do, and take frequent breaks. So everything I'm doing is very, very slow. OTOH I made chicken jok (a SE Asia rice porridge) where I substituted a fair bit of riced cauliflower for the rice, and it came out very tasty!

Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,

The civil unrest that we witnessed all across America this weekend was extremely alarming. For a few weeks, it seemed like the chaos that erupted in the immediate aftermath of the tragic death of George Floyd was subsiding, but in recent days there has been a dramatic resurgence. Within the last 48 hours, there have been eruptions of violence in major cities such as Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Oakland, Louisville, Austin and Richmond. At this point we have seen sustained protests and rioting for nearly two months straight, and it looks like the chaos isn’t going to disappear any time soon.

Over the past few weeks, a few people have written me emails suggesting that the civil unrest will disappear if Joe Biden wins the election in November.

But I don’t believe that this is true. Virtually all of the rioting is happening in cities that are controlled by Democrats, and the leftist politicians that run those cities do not have any control over the Marxist protesters at all.

For example, just look at what has been happening in Seattle and Portland. The politicians that run those cities are radical Democrats, and yet those radical Democrats have been completely and utterly unable to end the violence. The following comes from the Daily Mail…

The streets of Seattle turned violent Saturday when protesters set fire to a youth detention center and a police precinct. Other protesters threw rocks, bottles, fireworks and other explosives at cops, with the unrest leading local authorities to declare protests had turned into ‘riots that afternoon’.

Portland geared up for its 59th night of unrest Saturday with swathes of demonstrators marching from the federal building to the Portland Marriott where they believe federal officers are staying, in the wake of a violent night Friday that ended with at least one person stabbed.

To me, it is absolutely amazing that Portland has had 59 days of protests in a row.

One man that actually lives in downtown Portland says that his neighborhood has essentially been turned into “a war zone”…

Gabriel Johnson has lived in the Essex House Apartments in downtown Portland for seven years. He has loved it — until now.

“I compare it to a war zone and some people will take that and say he must be exaggerating but no,” said Johnson.

Johnson said he is kept awake by the nightly demonstrations taking place just two blocks from his home. The sounds of fireworks and flash bangs, he said, are overwhelming. The tear gas is bad, too.

And Johnson certainly knows what a “war zone” is like, because he is actually a military veteran.

Elsewhere, two very heavily armed militia groups nearly came face to face in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend

More than 300 members of the Atlanta-based Black militia NFAC, or “Not ******* Around Coalition” came to Louisville demanding justice for 26-year-old Breonna Taylor, an ER technician who was fatally shot by officers in March.

The group came close to 50 far-right “Three Percenter” militia members, who were also heavily armed. Police kept the sides apart and tensions eventually dissipated.

My threshold for the shit hitting the fan is when guns come out and people start shooting. We came very close to that.

Quote:

If just one person had gotten an itchy trigger finger, that situation could have gotten out of control very rapidly.

But there was one unfortunate incident when a member of the NFAC accidentally had a gun discharge…

Police confirmed three members of the NFAC were struck by gunfire when someone’s gun discharged while participating in a demonstration Saturday. All three victims went to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, things got really crazy down in Atlanta.

Rioters attacked the local ICE and DHS field office, and they came close to setting it on fire…

Atlanta also endured a night of unrest across Saturday evening into the early hours of Sunday as protesters took aim at the city’s ICE and DHS field office, smashing windows and attempting to set fire to the building.

Reports suggest that nobody was inside the building at the time, however extensive damage was caused to the front of the facility.

Agents were seen patrolling the grounds early Sunday, as FBI officers snapped pictures of the shattered windows and what appeared to be scorch marks left from fireworks on the office’s walls.

It is important to understand that these rioters are very serious about their goals, and they aren’t going to be happy with just a few half-hearted “reforms”. For many of them, nothing short of the overthrow of the entire system will suffice.

And as we draw closer to the November election, anything and anyone associated with President Trump will be a potential target. Trump supporter Bernie Trammell probably never imagined that his support of Trump would get him gunned down in front of his own business, but that is precisely what just happened…

Bernell Trammell, a Black Donald Trump supporter, was reportedly shot and killed in Milwaukee on Thursday (July 23). According to Fox 6, the 60-year-old was gunned down during a drive-by shooting in the neighborhood where he was known for displaying signs reading “Vote Trump 2020” and recited Bible verses.

Trammell was discovered dead in front of his business. A makeshift memorial containing flowers and candles has been set up on the sidewalk where Trammell died.

I guess only SOME black lives matter. BLM/Antifa protesters probably thoght of him as a race traitor.

Quote:

One could probably imagine something like this happening in Seattle, Portland or Los Angeles.

But Milwaukee?

It is so sad to watch our major cities being torn apart, but a lot of Democrats out there seem to think that all of this chaos is just temporary and that it will come to an end once Trump is removed from office.

Unfortunately, the truth is that these protests were never primarily about Trump. Yes, the protesters hate Trump, but they aren’t exactly fans of Joe Biden and other moderate Democrats either. As Susan Duclos has pointed out, if Joe Biden and the Democratic Party actually believe that they will be able to control these protesters if they win in November they are being extremely delusional…

This is a political calculation on the part of the liberal media and democrat politicians. Support the violent protesters, cause as much chaos and mayhem as possible before the 2020 presidential election, hoping that Trump will be blamed and their candidate, Joe Biden, will win.

The problem, for them, is even if it works there is no way they control the monster they created and if they think they can, they are more delusional than originally thought.

I have been warning that this civil unrest was coming for a very long time, and it is eventually going to get much, much worse no matter who wins in November.

If you currently live in the heart of one of our major cities, please do not be fooled into thinking that these protests are just temporary and that things will eventually go back to normal.

These protesters have a fervor that is almost [ALMOST?] on a religious level, and they are entirely convinced of the righteousness of their cause. They are never going to give up, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals.

Whatever their goals are.

I'm not hearing any concrete "goals". What I'm hearing is an ever-shifting set of nonsensical demands, anything from "defund the police" to "give us a hundred X hundred mile territory so we can set up a black nation for blacks only" to... no dmeands at all. Just rioting.

Welcome to the color revolution!

America's Major Cities Are Being Turned Into War Zones, And It's Not Going To End In November

This may be confusing. But if you replace "major cities" with Sanctuary Cities, it should all make sense.

It does and I had been avoiding the sink and the mirrors but I thought might as well take care of them while I am in a mind too. Sheets needed changing and Sunday's a good day to do that for me anyways.

FYI Sigs...

I haven't tried cleaning them yet since they look just as good as the day I put them up, but with the windows prepped properly all the vinyl still sticks up just as good as it did the day I put them up and isn't peeling anywhere. I've already gotten several compliments on how good they look and how much brighter the house looks.

I haven't made up my mind if I want to put it on the 4'x5' window in the livingroom or not. Bought an extra roll specifically for that purpose, but after washing the windows outside and cleaning them inside it is pretty beautiful looking out at the large maple tree and I might not want to cover that up.

Went to a mall in another city. Pretty big waste of time only found 1 item I was really looking for. Oh well it got me out of my city for a change.

Most interesting thing I did see was a double decker bus. Now, this was not a tourist bus but a regular transit bus. I had heard our local transit was phasing them in but this was the first time I had seen one.

How's the weather been up there, Brenda?

Finally going to see a day tomorrow with a high under 80 for the first time in over 3 weeks. It's 80 right now with 75% humidity and the sun is nearly down. High was 87 today. Had just about enough of that for a while.

Pretty sweet though. Not a single day predicted to be higher than 80 degrees now until next Friday, with lows in the 60's overnight so I can finally get some fresh air back into the house.

Got my A/C bill. Crazy low compared to what I thought it would be. Less than $140 for gas and electric combined. I was just hoping that it would be less than $200. Been running the A/C even more since I found that out, but the next bill won't close to that high anyway if the new coolish weather pattern holds. I think there was a 2 day stretch where I even had it on over 48 hours straight.

Damn little thing is a beast though. Just needs some help getting the rest of the house with my massive fan strategically placed is all.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

First year in the last 5 that it didn't rain a ton all summer and I'm loving it. Almost forgot how bad it can be when it doesn't stop raining. Fingers crossed when I get the gutters up and fix the known crack in my foundation that days of bailing out my basement are done.

I've been spending at lot of time on NEXTDOOR where there are active moderators who weed out trolls, and where my information has a good chance of changing behavior regarding COIVD-19 in my area.

Not only that, but I got good leads to some local arborists and handymen - in this case, a female college student working through school. Always happy to help out someone who's now where I've been!

And I have to say, not dealing with trolls and having actual fact-based discussions with people feels great!
