Thanks sigs.

People said I was crazy to spend all of that time on it, and they were probably right.

But I've got a pretty sweet custom kitchen you couldn't just buy and install from the store now that cost me just a couple more bucks than the cheapest fridge you could pick up at Best Buy.

It's just a shame that the cabinet doors don't have windows in them since a lot of artistry went into the insides of the cabs. Especially those lazy susan corner units.

I learned a lot too, and that's invaluable.

It's a shame I probably couldn't go into business doing this though. My step-mom asked my dad if I could do their cabinets. He told her not unless you want him living here the next half-year while he's getting it done.

She'll allow it. I think up until that point I didn't want to assist her, even though I'd hover closely around her anytime stairs were involved just in case. She needs to get exercise after that hip surgery a few years ago and she just won't do it. The doctor said she could have walked without a cane if she did, but she needs two of them to get around now.

But after that fall, I'm not taking any chances anymore. Until she starts exercising I've got to be supporting her from now on.

I understand. I also understand the stubborness of older women. My mum and my aunts were like that too. Need a lot of patience to deal with them for sure.

Yes, exercise will help that hip too.

Sorry about the gross pics, but I don't think anybody could truly believe how bad it was unless they saw them.

I've now got around 1,800 pics just of work in the kitchen. At least I have a cool journal of what I've been doing for a large part of the last year and 10 days.

She's actually not nearly as stubborn about a lot of things as she used to be. I kind of miss that about her sometimes, but I'm sure it makes my Aunt's job a lot easier most days.

She'd let me hold on to her while she's walking. I just didn't want to do it before because she's already relying far too much on those canes she shouldn't have to use anymore if she actually got some exercise. But after having her fall on top of me probably being the only reason she wasn't back in for hip surgery, those days are over until she gets some exercise.

My aunt says the plan is to work with my uncle on getting her some personal training with her health insurance. My uncle was looking into it, but then my cousin was diagnosed with Leukemia and they've had a lot of things they're dealing with right now.

Hopefully soon.

Getting the fridge back on the temporary boards was a bit tricky, but I managed it without doing any damage. I pulled it far enough away to install and caulk/paint the baseboard trim behind it, and I'm getting ready to roll it out onto the 2nd set of temporary boards so I can cut out and lay the permanant protective platform for the fridge and get it rolled back onto it.

Yeah... Not going to be doing the door trim anytime soon. I did remove the latch out of the door knob there so I could work on repairing the hole that lies behind the strike, but just the 90 seconds or so that it took to do that let in a ton of cold air. I'm afraid that door won't get trimmed out until sometime in March.

Oh well...

I'll probably wrap that up and get the fridge back into place and call it a day. I already got my taxes prepared last night and into this morning, so the day has been a success.

Maybe tomorrow I'll start working on that coat closet.

Started working on the closet today. Took the quarter round up off the floor and scraped as much of the caulk off the trim as I could. At least that yellow discoloration down there wasn't remnants of the mouse problem like I'd thought. It's a sick amount of dollar store caulk that the idiots put on and apparently wiped everywhere. Took me hours to scrape it all off. It was all over the face of the baseboards and even 2 to 3" up the walls in some places.

I know it's just a closet, but seriously... how drunk were you Bob?

I got most of the vinyl tile up off the floor. The front two have so much adhesive on them that I don't know how I'm going to get them off other than spending a few more hours slowly chipping away at them with a razor scraper. I think I'm done doing that today. I'm so glad they didn't do that to the floor in the pantry. I wish I could have just put the new flooring over the old vinyl tile, but there were parts of the tile that had peeled up before I bought the place and that would be noticeable under the new flooring if I didn't shim it up. In retrospect, that's probably what I should have done. Oh well.

I sanded down the walls and vacuumed the ceiling.

I'll probably cut down the rest of that hardboard to make my moving platforms and get that mess cleaned up in the basement and call it a day. I'm not really feeling it today.

JSF: I also had a question mark in your exchange, but likely not the same reason as you.
Brenda had said the temp was 10 degrees F. And that it was good. And you agreed. Before covid I usually said my fave temp was between -10F and 10F.
And now Brenda says it is 25F.
None of that sounds cold to me.

Brrrr!!!!

Quote:

JSF: But yes, snow is more difficult when it gets too cold. Up at cloud level is colder than ground temps, so snow falls up to about 40F. Lower temps make it harder to encounter an even colder front which causes the precip.
That was kind of my explanation to myself: pptn occurs at fronts, where two air masses collide and one forces the other up vertically. But if you're smack-dab in the middle of a cold air mass, you're unlikely to encounter another air mass of ANY kind ... either colder OR warmer... so no pptn occurs. Correct?

Quote:

JSF: Today I noticed the Fox River was frozen over in Green Bay, I hadn't been paying attention. Probably not enough to walk on. Fox is one of the largest rivers in WI, and historically was a critical and crucial navigable waterway - for transport and trade to the frontier west of the Mississippi.

But now I recall that yesterday 40 people got stranded on an ice shelf which detached and blew almost a mile away in the Bay of Green Bay. 5 agencies had to assist in the rescue.

One of my Canadian friends is originally from Rainy River. Is that nearby?

I'm familiar with most of WI. Rainy River not ringing a bell.
Maybe MN or Canada.

Thanks for the tip! I don't know why it took me so long to think about it, but I've had a hard time maintaining an adequate diet, and it finally occurred to me that it might help.

I always recommend Boost, never ensure. I say against ensure, unless it has some specific useful purpose.

Boost for humans or pets who need nutrients. It's a delivery package for vitamins and minerals. Pet's who have had their teeth pulled and lost appetite, for toy dogs 1/3 of an 8oz bottle per day.
For people to repair, rebuild muscle, bone, tendons, ligaments, skin. If your muscles are expected to be sore tomorrow, a Boost before bed will reduce or erase that soreness. Boost supplies the vite & min, sleep at night is the time.
Boost is not really help for GI issues, flu, etc.

I say only get the "original" Boost, although Nestle recently abandoned the formula there had been for more than 50 years. Not protein, glucose, women's, or other nasty crap that Nestle has screwed up.

Well, gee. I was feeling low energy yesterday, and was plannning to drink a bottle of Boost. Then I fell asleep without. Because I was too tired.
Today temp forecast was 28F. But everything was melting, so I went out and ice scraped and shoveled snow and ice which was left over on the sidewalk and driveway. Without the Boost, muscles were really sore/tired. What a drag.

I cut down that hardboard and sanded the edges down. Got me a few really nice platforms for moving the appliances when I need to, and the two smaller pieces from the "L" shapes I had left over will probably be large enough to make the drawer bottoms for the kitchen drawers if I choose to just build my own drawers and give up hope of finding two that are the same size and suitable for the job.

Got everything about as clean as I can make it for now. Still a bit in disarray because the coat closet is taken apart, and I've got a ton of crap in the pantry again. I still have to go through all of that and decide what I'm not going to keep since half of it was in the curio cabinet before and won't be going back inside of it. My days of keeping anything I don't need are over.

Eventually I'm going to have to go into the attic and do another purge. Of all of those boxes I stored up there a few years ago, I've only ever opened 3 of them to grab things I was looking for. Most of it I don't even remember what was up there. So much for "needing" that stuff, huh?

It was 40 here today, but you can't tell with all the snow we've still got everywhere. Unfortunately, we finally get a day above freezing and the sun didn't come out once.

35 tomorrow, but more snow. Then at least 9 more days after that it's predicted not to get above freezing again.

I got the tile up off the floor in the closet, patched the walls and trim and managed to get two coats on the ceiling in both the closet and the pantry before my old man made a surprise visit.

Didn't get as much done as I thought I would, but it was nice visiting with him.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Honestly, I didn't even ask how she was doing when I talked to my Dad today. That's not a slight against her, since I like her. I guess it just shows that in the real world I'm as unconcerned about Covid as my online persona is.

That being said, I will ask tomorrow. It's rather shitty of me to have not asked. But my dad didn't even mention it on the phone today, so I'm assuming everything is fine so far.

I didn't even ask if my Dad was okay. Shame on me.

Late night tonight. I'd been working earlier in the day repairing damage to he baseboard trim after painting it last night and I got all of my caulking done. Then I put two coats of finish enamel on the baseboard and the supports for the shelf and the coat pole. Also sanded down the pole, stained it and gave it a first coat of poly.

Was done with that before 6PM and wasn't planning on doing anything else, but I got the bug and just finished cutting in the walls for paint. I decided to use the gallon of paint I bought back in November of 2019 that I was going to use in the kitchen but decided not to. It's more or less a really light grey with just the slightest hint of green... barely even noticeable. I wanted to keep the closet light but also have some contrast from the trim since I've put so much work into it.

Unfortunately, it's more of that Pittsburgh Premium and their product wasn't any better three years ago than it is now. (Except for the enamel paint in that line, I'm never buying that stuff again, even if it's on a great sale). I'm not even going to put a roller to the walls until I cut it in a 2nd time. I've got a fan on it and I'm letting it dry right now and I'm going to do that before I go to bed. If I feel like it after that, I might give it the first roller coat so all I need to do tomorrow before putting the new flooring in is cut in and roll one time.

I'll be putting a few more coats of poly on the poll tomorrow too, but I'll probably wait a week or so before putting it in and hanging my coats back up on it.

I'll show you some before/after pics when I'm done with it. You can see how crazy I am since I'm putting way more work into a closet than most people ever would.

Lean against the wall, hands low, butt sticking out. Do the leg squats that way. Should give you max steadiness and sturdiness to confidently do as much leg workout as you have energy for. Or maybe just grip the bedcovers with feet on the floor.
Also, have you tried ankle or wrist weights? Lay in bed to move arms and legs Round. I keep seeing them for a few bucks at Goodwill or thrift stores. Like with a vellcro band.

Cut in twice and rolled it once. I've got a fan on it now and I'm going to roll it a second time before I clean up. My lamb's wool rollers waste quite a bit of paint during the cleanup, and since I'm going to need 3 coats with this paint I only want to have to clean it up twice.

It's ridiculous thinking that I might not be able to paint two moderate sized closets with a gallon of paint, but man is this paint crap.

lol yeah... Man this paint is trash. At least it looks good and washes well when you get it up, but I've never used a paint before that took three coats to put a darker color on a light color.

Most people would let this go after two coats since it's a closet. You only even see the spots right now when I've got a 3' long LED bulb in the closet that won't be there when I'm done. But I'm going to finish what I started.

No big deal. I enjoy painting a lot more than all the prep to get to that point, and it's more practice for me.

Third coat on and drying. I'll probably wait until tomorrow to install the shelf and the flooring so the walls have time to cure before I rush into that. I'll still be putting coats of poly on that pole and hopefully have that done and ready to go tomorrow.

I've got a little more than half a gallon left, so I should have enough to do the pantry when I get to it.

That's what I did.

She's was too heavy for me to keep her from falling entirely, especially since it happened so quick. I just kind of cradled her and fell back with her so she'd fall on top of me. When she was ready, I helped get her back up into a sitting position and she scooted herself out onto my front steps where we could both help her back on her feet.

I found out later from my Aunt that she still got bruised up a bit despite my Grandma saying that there wasn't any pain the next few days I checked up on her.

I'm just glad I was behind her. She's got quite a bit of padding to fall on, but if she breaks something she's probably in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

I think the reason why it didn't come to mind is because Boost (and Ensure) have always been notoriously low in protein, more like milkshakes and sugar with some vitamins thrown in.

It's hard to want to get up and go if you're cold. Maybe try using a small space heater in a small room to get it toasty warm and comfy for exercise?

I've always enjoyed fog. Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems like things are quieter and more peaceful when there's fog.

I pulled it far enough away to install and caulk/paint the baseboard trim behind it, and I'm getting ready to roll it out onto the 2nd set of temporary boards so I can cut out and lay the permanant protective platform for the fridge and get it rolled back onto it.

That was some good work you posted!

Have you thought of permanently putting any heavy appliances onto locking rollers? (Obviously with the locks in front, where you can reach them! And maybe you won't need locks, but here is SoCal I don't want things dancing around in an earthquakes.) That's something I'll be doing when I eventually gut and remodel my kitchen.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Hubby has his drill press, table saw and bandsaw on locking/rolling platforms. They allow him to reconfigure his (small) shop to accommodate various sized projects and they work great.

Don't frigs comes with wheels already, tho?

That is very true. Which is why after taking a fall, my mum bought herself a walker.
