Yeah, that was fun. I'd forgotten how hard it was since high school.

They didn't tell me and I didn't think to ask. I would think the being careful in another couple of days. I hope the stitches will be gone by the end of next week.

Hahaha!!!

Crisis averted.

Worked out in the garage until 10PM tonight. I risked running saws that late since I was hearing a bunch of fireworks and figured nobody was going to complain about me running them late with the doors closed while that was still going on.

Not only did I get everything organized and both of my work benches cleared off finally, but I repaired the entire wall and moved the benches back and I got around to putting the final trim pieces on the sides of the shelving system. It's a really sweet final touch on it that wasn't necessary for anything other than looks.

I was finally able to use the cordless jigsaw that I bought last summer to make them, and I got some good use out of my cordless multi-tool too.

Too true. The only thing on my mind was getting out of there and getting home. *L*

I think part of one stitch did come out tonight when I was taking my meds. I felt something on my lip after swallowing one of them. But I still need to rinse with salt water.

Yeah. Looking back on it, this was a crazy amount of time and effort. Aside from mowing the lawn twice, I'd been working out in that garage every day now for 9 straight days, usually until 9PM or later.

That's not even including the time I spent working on it a few months back before I ran out of 2x4 lumber and had to wrap everything up as best I could to start working on getting my car to pass the emissions test.

And then it's not including the huge de-hoard of 2019 that saw 50% of the stuff that was in the garage go out to the street or to Goodwill either.

What's nice about this too is that about 1/5th of the stuff that currently is on the shelves is temporary stuff that won't be there anymore once its used up for future projects on the house. Just like most of the lumber I had is either part of the shelving or the base of the garage on the fixed wall, was thrown out last week, is in cans to be thrown out this week, or will be picked up by one of my friends soon.

When that happens, I can do some slight re-org once again and have 2 or three of the mid-level shelves cleared out to put the most commonly used tools on, but still keep them out of the way and off the work benches. (Right now, I still have to get all of my power tools back inside and clear the benches of the tools I was using up until 10PM last night because I was too tired to bother with it when I finished).

Today I begin a much-needed cleaning of the house. I think I'm going to start in the basement. I need to clean up the work area first, and get my horses out in the garage. I can now do all of my painting out there instead of inside the house, and not worry about having to move everything constantly to park my car. I also have to go through all the free stuff I've gotten on rebate, figure out what I'm giving away and to whom and then incorporate it into the stuff out in the garage.

Oh... Drat. I just realized that I forgot to clean out the shop vac last night. I picked up quite a bit of mouse crap and a few long-dead (flat) mice along that damaged wall. Gross. I wanted to do that before I took a shower last night. I'd better do it before it hits 90 degrees. Still reasonably cool right now.

Later!

Or both?

Yeah, we had a good afternoon. Her prezzie went over really well with her and she did some shopping before heading home.

One of these times we are going to have to set up an afternoon for her to come and see my place. She still hasn't and I've been here 3 years now.

Managing to accomplish a fair bit in between doctor visits. Got a new phone for dear daughter and sister bc 3G is going the way of the dodo bird. So when it comes in we will xfer all relevant info to daughter's new phone and get it activated. And, of course, factory-reset her old phone and destroy her old SIM card.

Today is create the menu for the week (last week was full of easy-to-make family favorites: ground turkey shepherd's pie, chicken and dumpling soup, burgers and chili con carne, pork steak with apples and celery) and this week I hope to come up with more easy-to-make one-pot tasty meals.

Today is the one day during this work week where I can do yardwork, so I intend to dig up more vegetable garden to put in a row of beets and a row of chives, garlic, and cilantro. I've already planted tomato, zucchini, basil, and parsley. The rest will have to wait until the weekend. And once I'm done prepping and planting I'll go back to chipping away at the front yard. I already see how I can start moving some dirt around, once I clear the weeds.

So just OOC, me being nosy and all... when you say "cleanup" do you mean dusting, sweeping, and scrubbing? Or more like tidying up?

Or both?

Both.

I also got ALL project work out of my basement and most of my tools, including dusty horses I had set up down there for the kitchen cabinet work and trim work, along with all the plastic protecting the floor that has had the sawdust from all the sanding and just life happening on it for what seems like forever now. I did leave the stack of baseboard and trim that I have yet to use up high on a few old dresser drawers, but I wrapped them in old bed sheets and out of the way. You can hear my echos down there when I talk now. The only other things I have down there now are my 6 shelving units with my cordless tools I don't want to leave outside, all of my paint and caulk that can't stay in the garage, a small tool box and my free-after-rebate hauls that I haven't used or given away yet.

I was going to finish the work I started yesterday, but after spending a few hours out in the blistering heat with a new acquaintance and possible "business" partner (bartering for work), I decided that the 100 degree day with a real feel of 115 was the perfect day to lounge around and take a nap after 10 straight days of working until past 9PM every night. (I'm SOOOOOOOO glad I have that A/C now).

This guy has a bender and has 30+ years of experience with aluminum. He's going to be coming by in the next few weeks hopefully to finish off the new porch windows I did with my friend and his dad last fall and we're going to come up with a plan to finally fix my front porch overhang and get those pole jacks out of there. He's got a lot of work, mostly painting and landscaping that he needs done at his house, so we're hopefully going to be trading a good chunk of work together. Windows and aluminum are just his specialty, but he knows quite a bit of other stuff to. It will be nice too have somebody come and help me out first for once so I don't have to go chasing them all around for months (or years) to get it paid back.

I was hoping to get some gardening done today, but since dear daughter needs a phone ASAP (and is getting one by Thursday) we were trying to find a way to shift off all of her critical info off her old phone. We already moved the texts off with "SMS backup and restore" (altho I would like to find a way to move them off as plain text so ANY program can read them, there's just so much additional info with each text, linking - for example- a series of texts together as a "conversation") I'm not sure it's possible.

SO then we saw how many photos she had on her phone. Was going to try it the old=fashioned way ... forwarding a text to email with pictures attached ... but her phone is so old and the doesn't get signal too well, so LTE was unbelievably slow and unreliable. Cable xfer would have been preferable but her USB port is "charge only" so it would have to be either Bluetooth or Wifi. Tried Bluetooth, maybe didn't try hard enuf but it didn't seen to want to go, and I hate the idea of google OneDrive of whatever the frak it's called so we tried a couple of different apps but finally settled on Telegram. Once we get the pix off her phone I'll just uninstall it bc there's a lot of dodgy accounts around (meetupininsertcitynamehere" kind sticks in my memory, and if I can see them I'm sure they can see me. Good thing I anonymized the account name.)

Anyway, this is not at all elegant, very quick and dirty/under time pressure, but we'll get it done.

Yeah. This will be the third person I've been doing it with. He wants to start doing some of my stuff first, which is the way I want it too after having so many obs planted elsewhere that I have to chase to get back.

I bet a lot of people who have skills are doing stuff like this with the economy the way it is.

Yeah. I've been thinking about that too. I've also got some respectable references under my sleeve, and it's rare that I can't figure out how to solve a problem through youtube or DIY forums along with advice from people in the industry that I know personally.

Jack of all trades, master of none... with a quite a little bit of tech know-how on the side. It's an interesting mix.

Once I get my house down to about a dozen or two projects instead of a hundred or two, I think I'm going to get bored. I'm either going to have to hang a shingle on my roof or look around for a semi-permanent gig somewhere.

Are you SURE the USB port is charge only? That seems pretty odd to me. Did you try other cables? Sounds like you got a temporary solution.

I wouldn't be paranoid about the photosharing sites. (Onedrive is Microsoft, Photos is Google).

You know how paranoid about things I am... or at least I used to be. All of my photos are up on one of the above. Unless your daughter has things on there that need be hidden, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Google already knows everything about you and Microsoft probably knows 80% as much as Google knows anyway.

I don't really have any advice on the SMS to TXT thing. I tried looking on CNET to see if there were any programs you could download and run on your computer to convert them after you got them off the phone, but I couldn't find any.

There are a lot of online places that would do it for "free", but you're giving them all that information too for free. There also appears to be apps you can download from the Apple or Google Play store that will do this as well, but again, you're running all those text through a third party app you have no reason to trust.

Just doing a search on Google for this right now made me realize how lucky I am to have all of my old programs through the years backed up in several places, and that I have a few older computers capable of running the older ones with lesser versions of Windows that remain offline too. One day I might not be able to do the type of file management I want to do anymore once our PCs start behaving more like cell phones.

Got my shopping list ready. Got some really good deals at the DIY store for Father's Day, which means great buys for fatherless me and not for my own father since he doesn't do tools.

Also got my list together for all the remaning electrical stuff I'll need in the garage. Rather than reuse old outlets I've had sitting in boxes for years, I'm just buying new ones. Got some metal covers that I'll use, but I don't have enough for what I'm doing.

I'm not going to plan for the two exterior plug outlets or the outdoor light above the overhead door yet other than making sure that the placement of things makes sense when I get around to doing those after everything else is done.

If nothing else comes up and the weather finally cools off, I should have a lot of outlets and 6 very bright overhead lights for my new workshop by this time next week.

Okay. I am having some computer problems over here just to let you know in case I disappear. Bought a small battery operated fan and have it turned on the modem. It seems to be getting a little over heated. So maybe that will help.

Still here. Fan seems to be doing the trick on the modem but I need a better one for the monitor.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Modems ... Yeah, ours gets hot too. Glad the fan is helping!

Sorry to hear about the last mahjong game but having fun with friends is the best part.

Yeah. I think the garage overshadowed anything else I've done since the last time I saw him. He remembers what it looked like 3 years ago when you could barely get my car in there. Now you could park two cars in there.

I got my new shed door on order, so in about 3 weeks when it comes in my friend's dad is going to pay some of those hours he owes me back helping me install it and doing a few things with the electric out on the porch.

Also got a few cool new additions to my cordless tool set with a great Father's Day deal.

Today might be the last cool day for months. I'm going to go out and work on the electric in the garage. Don't know if I'll be able to finish it today, but wouldn't that be cool?

How hot is it in your place that you're worried about it? Should I be more worried about you than your computer?

Do you have a large book or two to put the case on to get it off the carpet until you get a proper platform for it?

Yeah it is SIG. I would like to move it but I am limited in space to do that. So the fan is the only thing that seems to work now. But I am using a little cheap fan. Need a better one.

I'm at the back of the building and I get the sun all day when it is out. I'll be okay and once I get this sorted out the computer will be too. I keep my curtains closed all day until the sun goes down.

I have the tower sitting on a low stool now and so that is seems to be fine now. The problem is the modem which is sitting on the tv stand. Moving it is limited so it needs a fan. I have sent a message to my internet provider and told them what is happening. See what they have to say.

Also I have little personal fans all over the place here for cooling.

Out for my walk in a bit. It is cloudy and it was raining at some point. Road is wet and the roofs of other apartment buildings around.

Back from my walk and did some rearranging around my desktop here. Moved the modem away from the tv and put it on an overturned container from the Dollar store. Also moved it's power pack and that seems to have cooled the whole shebang down. Still need a fan on the monitor though. Also moved my plug in fan to where the modem is and will see if I need to put it on.

You don't have A/C? Is it getting hotter than usual for you up there? I don't remember you having an issue like this last summer.

Fantastic day in the garage.

There was no way I was going to do all of this in one day, but I worked until 10PM and made the most of it.

Before I built those shelves, I bent and ran pipe through the walls and put four boxes in and also ran wire through, but never did any more than that at the time. I also bent and ran the pipe through the back wall to put two boxes there. Today, all of that was connected to the main. It all comes in the garage with 12gauge wire, and it's on two separate 20 Amp circuits. All of the lights and the overhead door opener are on one circuit. All of the outlets are on the other circuit.

On the side wall and the back wall I now have 20 outlets. Obviously even with a 20 Amp circuit if I ran a bunch of stuff on all of them at once it would blow the circuit, but that's not the point. I want to be able to plug in stuff anywhere I want to without any hassle.

I also repurposed one of my two switches by the service door. One controlled the lights over my main work bench on the side wall opposite of the new outlets, and the other one controlled four outlets below the switch box. Now those four outlets are powered all of the time, and the second switch controls the overhead lights.

I've only installed two of the four I will be installing, but they are BRIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!

It was a good day.

No I don't have AC and that would be great for the computer and such but would make me too cold.

Keeping the curtains closed last summer seemed to work but this year. I don't know what is happening. I've got the fan on the modem and that seems to have snapped the computer back into shape.

It was either yesterday or Thursday that I couldn't get the tower to shut off and that was when I brought out the fans for everything. That got the tower and stuff to snap back. So I am at it again today.

The wiring overloading is what set off the smoke detector a couple of months ago which is why the manager came in while I was out and turned it off which in turn turned off 3 outlets in my place. Doing that turned off my computer, modem and tv along with the HD box. So, I called my internet provider and they wanted to send me a new modem but I moved everything to a different outlet and it brought everything back. But still getting the over heating.

This is an old building I am in and also with all the work being done on the elevators and the electrical for that. I'm not sure if that is having an affect on my place or not.

Hmmmm...

I'm hoping that something isn't wrong with your stuff. Unless you get cold when it's very warm, you computer shouldn't be overheating, nor should your monitor or modem. My computer doesn't even begin to have problems unless it gets up to 80 degrees in the house, and it's been a few years since I've ever let it get that high with that A/C I finally got around to buying.

Before I got the A/C, it wouldn't be uncommon for me to crack the case open and have a fan blowing right into it, but never in my history of living here did I have to put a fan on my computer monitor or my cable modem/router, and I've had summers where my thermostat on the second floor maxed out at 99 degrees Fahrenheit day and night.

I'm just a little confused about the situation.

As long as you're okay, that's the important part.
